RESUMEN

Vestibuloplasty (VP) is a surgical technique that allows the deepening of the vestibule of the mouth. The gold standard, especially if an increase in keratinized tissue (KT) is required, is represented by the free gingival graft (FGG). The need for a donor site, however, is a source of discomfort and possible complications. To overcome these aspects, numerous techniques and materials have been used. Horizontal platelet-rich fibrin (H-PRF) has been very successful in recent years in various oral surgery procedures due to its ability to promote tissue healing and regeneration. The reported case presents a new technique of VP using H-PRF, which allows avoiding the second surgical site. A 25-year-old patient with post-surgical reduction of vestibule depth and poor KT was treated with VP. The patient refused an FGG procedure. Therefore, VP was performed using an H-PRF membrane as a graft material to lengthen the vestibule and promote KT regeneration. After nine weeks, an increase in vestibule depth and KT width was evident. The use of H-PRF in VP has allowed predictable surgery without significant complications. It therefore represents an alternative to the traditional FGG to be seriously taken into consideration.

PURPOSE: Medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a risk for patients taking anti-resorptive or anti-angiogenic medications. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAMOS) has classified MRONJ in stages to reflect the severity of the disease and allows implementation of suitable treatment pathways. MRONJ risk is < 5% in cancer patients and < 0.05% in osteoporosis patients. Management is subdivided into operative and non-operative, with advances in the literature investigating adjuvants. Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) is an autologous biomaterial consisting of leukocytes and platelets embedded within a fibrin matrix with the ability to release growth factors enabling angiogenesis, bone regeneration and soft tissue healing. This paper's aim is to investigate the effects of L-PRF in conjuction with surgical debridement for management of MRONJ. METHODS: Twenty-two cases with established MRONJ were treated with either surgical intervention (Group A) or with surgical intervention and L-PRF (Group B), from 2016 to 2023 at Edinburgh Dental Institute (EDI). Treatments were deemed successful when the patients were asymptomatic, displayed complete soft tissue healing with the absence of infection/inflammation, fistula, or exposed bone. RESULTS: All cases in Group B had healed in contrast to 54.5% not healed in Group A; p value < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. CONCLUSION: The use of L-PRF as an adjuvant to surgical management of MRONJ is promising with its favourable functional capacity, simple application, and success of treatment outcomes.

AIM: Injectable platelet-rich fibrin (I-PRF), a second-generation platelet concentrate, is widely used to enhance soft and hard tissue healing alone or in combination with biomaterials, relying on its harboring of various pivotal growth/differentiation factors. This randomized trial assessed the effect of clindamycin (CLN) augmented injectable platelet-rich fibrin (I-PRF) with modified minimally invasive surgical technique (M-MIST) versus I-PRF alone with M-MIST on the clinical and radiographic parameters in the management of periodontal intra-bony defects in patients with stage-III grade B periodontitis. METHODS: This is a 9-month parallel-grouped, two arm, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial (RCT) that included 28 patients (n = 28) with stage-III grade B periodontitis, who were allocated randomly to test- (CLN/I-PRF + M-MIST, 50 µL of CLN per 1 mL of I-PRF; n = 14) or control-group (I-PRF + M-MIST; n = 14). Clinical attachment level (CAL; primary outcome), probing depth (PD), gingival margin level (GML), plaque index (PI), and gingival index (GI) were recorded at baseline, 3, 6, and 9 months, whereas radiographic parameters radiographic linear defect depth (RLDD), and radiographic defect area (RDA) were recorded at baseline, 6, and 9 months. The CLN release kinetics from the I-PRF were further characterized. RESULTS: Compared to baseline, both groups independently demonstrated significant improvements in CAL, PD, GML, GI, PI, RLDD and BDA at 3, 6 and 9 months (p < .05). A significant reduction in CAL measurements was noticeable in the CLN/I-PRF + M-MIST and I-PRF + M-MIST group independently over time (p < .05). CLN/I-PRF + M-MIST showed significantly lower CAL than PRF + M-MIST group at baseline, after three as well as 9 months (p < .05). Intergroup comparisons at 9 months demonstrated that CAL-gain was non-significant between groups (p > .05), GI significantly lower in CLN/I-PRF + M-MIST, whereas PD-reduction significantly higher I-PRF + M-MIST group (p < .05). CLN was steadily released for the I-PRF for up to 48 h, with a peak concentration at 24 h, which then gradually declined till the seventh day. CONCLUSIONS: I-PRF with M-MIST provided significant clinical and radiographic improvement up to 9 months postoperatively in stage-III grade B periodontitis. CLN, at the applied concentration and release duration, does not appear to further positively impact these observed I-PRF effects.

Introduction Chronic non-healing ulcers are defined as a discontinuity or break in the integrity of skin that is not healing in a reasonable period of time due to an underlying systemic etiology. Despite using conventional initial treatment and many other available dressing options, such wounds are difficult to completely heal, thus affecting the progress of rehabilitation measures and compromising functional improvement and quality of life. Materials and methods In this case series, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) was applied to eight wounds from six patients. The patients included had various etiologies (including spinal cord injury, peripheral vascular disease, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and diabetic foot ulcer) with chronic non-healing wounds over different anatomical locations on the body. Pressure ulcer scale for healing (PUSH) score, surface area, and volume of the wounds were evaluated and monitored weekly after PRF dressing. We have applied PRF every week. On average, two PRF dressings were applied, the maximum being three applications. Results The maximum healing rate in terms of PUSH score was observed to be 3.84% per day, and the minimum was 1.19% per day. The maximum healing rate in terms of surface area was observed to be 5.89% per day, and the minimum was 1.78% per day. Three of the wounds showed complete closure. The maximum follow-up period was 10 weeks. The percentage mean Functional Independence Measure (FIM) improvement was calculated to be 15.87% ± 14.04 during the course of hospitalization after PRF application. Conclusion Based on the results, we can conclude that PRF showed accelerated improvement in the healing of chronic non-healing ulcers of various etiologies at different anatomical locations. It has proven to be a safe and effective method, thereby improving their quality of life and functional independence in performing activities of daily living. To our knowledge till date, no other study in a rehabilitation setting has been done on patients having non-healing ulcers due to various etiologies and at different anatomical locations.

BACKGROUND: Leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) is an autologous platelet concentrate, prepared by centrifugation of blood and consisting of a dense fibrin network with incorporated leukocytes and platelets. This study aims to perform an in-depth analysis of the cells, growth factors, and transcriptome of L-PRF. METHODS AND RESULTS: Fresh, 1 week and 2 weeks cultured human L-PRF membranes and liquid L-PRF glue were characterized on cellular and transcriptional level using flow cytometry (n = 4), single-cell RNA sequencing (n = 5) and RT-qPCR. Growth factor kinetics were investigated using ELISA (EGF, VEGF, PDGF-AB, TGF-ß1, bFGF). L-PRF contained a large number of viable cells (fresh 97.14 ± 1.09%, 1 week cultured 93.57 ± 1.68%), mainly granulocytes in fresh samples (53.9 ± 19.86%) and T cells in cultured samples (84.7 ± 6.1%), confirmed with scRNA-seq. Monocytes differentiate to macrophages during 1 week incubation. Specifically arterial L-PRF membranes were found to release significant amounts of VEGF, EGF, PDGF-AB and TGF-ß1. CONCLUSION: We characterized L-PRF using in vitro experiments, to obtain an insight in the composition of the material including a possible mechanistic role for tissue healing. This was the first study characterizing L-PRF at a combined cellular, proteomic, and transcriptional level.

Background: Regenerative endodontic procedures allow reinforcement of root canal wall and continuation of root development, opening new therapeutic possibilities. The root canal system of infected teeth is colonized by a variety of microorganisms, which hinder the regenerative process, leading to treatment failure if not adequately addressed, thereby requiring careful attention to microbial control. Aim and Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the antimicrobial activity of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) and gold nanoparticles (AuNps) against Enterococcus faecalis. Materials and Methods: Intravenous blood (5-6 ml) was drawn from four healthy individuals, and A-PRF was prepared through centrifugation at 1500 revolutions per minute (rpm) for 14 min. A-PRF was doped with 3 µl of AuNps and centrifuged at 1000 rpm for 1 min. Antimicrobial activity was assessed using disk diffusion; inhibition zones were measured. For minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), A-PRF + AuNps were added to the microbial broth at varying concentrations to determine growth inhibition and microbial death. Results: Disk diffusion assays revealed significant antibacterial effects against E. faecalis. Norfloxacin displayed the highest mean zone of inhibition (20.33 ± 1.53 mm), followed by the Test group (A-PRF + AuNPs) (19.33 ± 0.58 mm). Multiple comparisons indicated significant differences (P < 0.001). MIC of A-PRF + AuNPs against E. faecalis was 0.031 mg/ml, with MBC at 0.015 mg/ml. Conclusion: The addition of AuNPs to A-PRF offers the potential for sustained growth factor release while maintaining the sterility of the canal, leading to successful revitalization and regeneration. The combined use of A-PRF + AuNps shows promise for enhancing revascularization in necrotic immature permanent teeth.

This review examines platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) efficacy in periodontal plastic surgery, highlighting its crucial role in promoting periodontal regeneration and healing. Various forms of PRF are discussed, like leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin, advanced PRF, and injectable PRF, in addition to their application in different periodontal procedures such as root coverage and increasing the width of keratinized tissue surrounding the teeth. This review emphasizes the biological benefits of PRF, such as faster wound healing, reduced postsurgical pain, and better management of bleeding. The presence of growth factors, cytokines, and leukocytes in PRF significantly aids in promoting tissue regeneration, thereby improving the clinical outcomes of periodontal therapy. This review also provides recommendations for further research using standardized PRF protocols to optimize the benefits of PRF in clinical practice.

Introduction: Intrauterine transfusion of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has become a new treatment for thin endometrium (TE) in recent years, but its low efficacy due to rapid release of growth factors limits its clinical use. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) starts the coagulation cascade reaction immediately after the blood comes into contact with the test tube. The natural coagulation process results in stable platelet activation and the slow release of growth factors. Methods: In our study, primary human endometrial stromal cells (hESCs) were extracted from endometrial tissue. PRP and PRF were prepared from the patient cubital vein blood. Stromal cells were cultured in conditioned medium supplemented with PRP and PRF. Differences in cell behavior were observed by cell proliferation test and cell migration test. The relative expression levels of apoptotic Bax and antiapoptotic Bcl-2 genes were measured by qRT-PCR. The release of growth factors from PRP and PRF was detected by ELISA. Results: We found that both PRP and PRF inhibited apoptosis of hESCs, which favored cell proliferation and migration. In addition, PRF releases growth factors for a longer period of time compared to PRP. Discussion: PRF offer a more sustained therapeutic effect compared to PRP, which provides a new idea for endometrial regeneration and repair.

Guided bone regeneration involving the use of titanium mesh and platelet-rich fibrin could be a feasible approach in cases of severely atrophic ridges. The purpose of this case report was to present an esthetic and functional rehabilitation in the anterior maxilla with the installation of dental implants in conjunction with guided bone regeneration using titanium mesh and advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF). A 60-year-old patient presented bone atrophy and partial edentulism in the anterior maxilla. After clinical and cone beam computed tomography assessment, guided bone regeneration was planned using a titanium mesh and A-PRF with xenograft bone. After eight months of healing, the dental implants were placed with the aid of a surgical guide to obtain accurate three-dimensional positioning. Prosthetic rehabilitation was carried out with individualized crowns. After two years of follow-up, radiographic analysis demonstrated a good quality and density of the bone tissue adjacent to the dental implants. No radiolucent areas were observed, and there were no clinical signs of failure. In cases of severe atrophy, using a titanium mesh and A-PRF proved to be a feasible alternative for bone reconstruction prior to dental implant placement. This approach can aid dental professionals in achieving an ideal implant positioning for rehabilitation with individualized crowns.

Objectives: This systematic review aims to critically assess the impact of platelet-rich fibrin on maxillary sinus floor augmentation and outline the specific aspects of new bone formation, bone height, implant stability quotient, and Schneiderian membrane thickness. Material and Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, analysing studies from MEDLINE (PubMed), the Cochrane Library, and ScienceDirect databases, published from January 29, 2018 until January 29, 2024 that compared maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) using bone graft material with and without platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). This review focused on patients 18 years and older who undergone MSFA before the dental implant placement. It systematically examined five studies, encompassing randomized controlled trials, and reported on 112 MSFA procedures conducted in 84 patients. Results: The meta-analysis reveals a marginal significance in new bone formation with PRF, suggesting a trend towards beneficial outcomes that were not statistically significant. No significant impact on bone height was observed. However, a notable improvement in implant stability quotient (ISQ) was recorded, indicating enhanced implant stability with PRF. The Schneiderian membrane thickness did not show significant changes post-treatment with PRF. Conclusions: While platelet-rich fibrin shows promise in enhancing implant stability, its effects on new bone formation and Schneiderian membrane thickness are inconclusive, highlighting the need for further research. Platelet-rich fibrin did not significantly affect bone height. The findings support platelet-rich fibrin's potential as a beneficial adjunct in maxillary sinus floor augmentation, particularly for implant stability.

The dental pulp, essential for tooth vitality, often becomes inflamed when exposed due to caries, fractures, or dislodged restorations. Untreated inflammation can lead to pulpal death, necessitating vital pulp therapies (VPTs) such as pulp capping and pulpotomy. Recent trends favor partial caries removal to avoid overtreatment and preserve pulp health. This shift is illustrated through two cases of young female patients with dislodged restorations and deep caries. Both underwent direct pulp capping using platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), followed by composite restorations. These cases underscore the importance of biocompatible materials like MTA and PRF in maintaining pulp vitality and promoting dental tissue repair.

Our previous clinical observations showed that platelet rich fibrin (PRF) can be used to deliver antibiotics to attenuate postoperative complications after unilaterally impacted mandibular third molar surgery (IMTMS). In order to begin understanding the mechanism involved in the beneficial in vivo effects of PRF-mediated delivery of antibiotics, in vitro studies were performed, which showed that PRF preparations containing amoxicillin/clavulanic acid or clindamycin significantly inhibited the growth of S. aureus bacteria. In our previous study, comparisons were made between control and treated groups. However, since variations among individual patients could possibly affect the results, the current study included patients with bilaterally symmetric impacted mandibular third molars, allowing us to compare control and antibiotic treatment within each patient. The effects of PRF preparations containing amoxicillin/clavulanic acid or clindamycin on IMTMS was tested in 60 clinical cases. Antibiotic-injected PRF treatment after bilaterally IMTMS resulted in significantly reduced pain, less use of analgesics, and reduced swelling and trismus compared to the control group (PRF without antibiotics) confirming our previous results after unilaterally IMTMS. The in vitro results support the hypothesis that in vivo delivery of antibiotics using PRF produces therapeutic effects after IMTMS by attenuating bacterial infection and inflammation.

Aim: This case report aims to describe the management of a maxillary lateral incisor with a palatogingival groove (PGG) associated with a complex lesion. Background: The PGG is a rare developmental anomaly that involves the lingual surface of the maxillary incisors and extends for varying distances and depths on the root surface. This anomaly is usually inconspicuous and funnel-shaped, which forms a niche where bacterial plaque and calculus can accumulate to levels significant for pathological changes resulting in endodontic and periodontal lesions. These grooves are easily overlooked as etiologic factors, as they are concealed by the periodontal tissues. Case description: This paper describes the successful management of a rare case of maxillary lateral incisor with an accessory root, two canals, and a complex or type III PGG with a endodontic-periodontic lesion using a multidisciplinary approach. Conclusion: Recognizing PGG as the initiator of pathology is critical for the successful treatment and favorable prognosis of the affected tooth. Clinical significance: This case report highlights the importance of three-dimensional (3D) imaging using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) that can provide accurate and sensitive information to assess and plan the treatment of the teeth with PGG. It also emphasizes that with the development of newer materials and diagnostic tools, clinicians need a detailed understanding of the characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of PGG to successfully manage the condition. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the clinical and radiographic success of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as direct pulp capping (DPC) agents in primary molars. Materials and methods: In this study, 50 primary first and second molars from healthy children aged 5-9 years requiring pulp therapy were randomly allocated into two groups. In the PRF group, after coronal pulp removal and hemostasis, the remaining pulp tissue was covered with PRF preparation. In the MTA group, after coronal pulp removal and hemostasis, MTA was placed, followed by a zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) base and glass ionomer cement (GIC) in both groups. Clinical and radiographic evaluations were undertaken at 1-, 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-month intervals. Results: By the end of the 12th month, the overall success rate was 82.6% in the PRF group, whereas it was 61.9% in the MTA group. Conclusion: Platelet-rich fibrin can be used successfully as an appropriate alternative material in DPC of primary teeth when compared with MTA. This case report explores the application of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) as an autologous biomaterial in the surgical management of a periapical cyst in an 18-year-old female patient. The patient presented with pain, discoloration, and swelling in the maxillary left central incisor region, indicative of an asymptomatic periapical lesion associated with a history of trauma. Despite initial endodontic treatment with calcium hydroxide, the lesion persisted, necessitating surgical intervention. PRF, prepared from the patient's blood, was utilized during periapical surgery to promote healing and tissue regeneration. The surgical procedure included enucleation of the cyst, apicoectomy, and retrograde filling with Biodentine. Clinical and radiographic assessments at follow-up visits (three, six, and nine months post-surgery) revealed successful healing with no signs of inflammation or discomfort. The use of PRF demonstrated favorable outcomes in enhancing wound healing and maintaining a favorable environment for tissue remodeling. This case underscores the potential of PRF as an effective biomaterial in periapical surgery, advocating for its integration into dental therapeutic strategies for its regenerative properties and cost-effectiveness.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), originally used to support soft tissue healing, is also considered a therapeutic option for treating oral lichen planus and leukoplakia. The progression from the two premalignant lesions to the aggressive malignant oral squamous cell carcinoma involves an inflammatory process linked to chemokine expression. Thus, there is a rationale for studying how PRF modulates the expression of chemokines in oral squamous carcinoma cells. To this aim, we expose the oral squamous carcinoma cell line HSC2 to IL1ß and TNFα either alone or in the presence of lysates obtained from solid PRF membranes. We report here that in HSC2 cells, PRF lysates significantly reduce the forced transcription of chemokines, e.g., CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL8, CXCL10, and CCL5. Moreover, PRF lysates attenuate the nuclear translocation of p65 in HSC2 oral epithelial cells when exposed to IL1ß and TNFα. PRF lysates further reduce chemokine expression provoked by poly:IC HMW. Even though less pronounced, PRF lysates reduce IL1ß- and TNFα-induced chemokine expression in TR146 cells. In primary oral epithelial cells, however, PRF lysates increase the basal expression of CXCL1, CXCL2 and CXCL8. Thus, PRF can exert a biphasic effect on chemokine expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma cell lines and primary oral epithelial cells. These findings suggest that PRF may reduce inflammation in a malignant environment while provoking an immunological response in healthy oral epithelium.

Several techniques have been described for maxillary sinus graft augmentation, including the lateral window technique and crestal approach with osteotomes or osseodensification. Platelet-rich fibrin has been used in maxillary sinus lift procedures due to its ability to accelerate soft and hard tissue healing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of PRF in combination with the synthetic hydroxyapatite NanoBone® to enhance bone regeneration in sinus floor elevation with the lateral window technique. Out of the 50 individuals screened in a preoperative assessment visit from the CESPU-Famalicão clinical unit and intervened upon between January 2023 and December 2023, only 6 patients who met the study's inclusion criteria consented to participate. In a split-mouth study, twelve sinus graft surgeries were carried out. Our observations reveal that for the test group (NanoBone®/PRF), there is a 27.5 ± 4.9% increase new vital bone, 23.0 ± 3.7% increase in inert bone particles, and 49.4 ± 2.8% increase in connective tissue. Meanwhile, for the control group (NanoBone®), there is a 19.5 ± 3.0% increase in new vital bone, 23.4 ± 5.7% increase in inert bone particles, and 57.0 ± 3.5% increase in connective tissue. The results strongly indicate that mixing liquid PRF with NanoBone® does not have a negative influence on the amount of viable bone formation, and it seems to slightly increase the amount of new bone formation and revascularization in sinus bone graft procedures with the lateral window technique compared to the single use of NanoBone®.

The advanced-PRF+ (A-PRF+) is a platelet concentrate, showing a higher concentration of growth factors, an increased number of cells and looser structure of the fibrin clot than leukocyte-PRF. A high variability in the size of PRF associated with patients, haematological features and centrifugation protocols was reported. The aims of this study were to evaluate the feasibility of A-PRF+ production in the field and the correlation between haematological parameters, macroscopic and microscopic features in equine A-PRF+. Samples from twenty Standardbred horses (3-7 years) were harvested with glass tubes without anticoagulants, previously heated at 37 °C. Blood samples were centrifugated at 1300 rpm for 8 min with a fixed-angle centrifuge and a horizontal centrifuge in the field, at a temperature of 15-17 °C. Clots were measured and placed on the Wound Box® for a 2-min compression. Membranes were measured and fixed in 10% formalin for histological examination. Clot and membrane surface did not differ between sex and centrifuge. Haematological parameters did not show a significant correlation to clot and membrane size. Membranes obtained from both centrifugation protocols showed a loose fibrin structure and cells evenly distributed throughout the clot. Tubes' warming was effective to obtain A-PRF+ clots from all samples, regardless the environmental temperature. Further studies are needed to evaluate the influence of other blood molecules on the A-PRF+ structure and size.

BACKGROUND: Sphincter-preserving techniques like autologous compound platelet-rich fibrin foam have gained popularity, offering potential for better functional outcomes in anal fistula treatment. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Obsidian RFT®. METHODS: The study conducted a retrospective analysis from January 2018 to December 2022 on patients who received anal fistula closure with Obsidian RTF® at the Department of General Surgery, Medical University of Vienna. Clinical diagnosis, complemented by radiographic imaging, was employed to confirm inconclusive cases. Demographic and fistula characteristics and postoperative data were collected from electronic records following STROCSS criteria. RESULTS: Fifteen patients received Obsidian RFT® treatment for anal fistulas. We found no intra- and postoperative complications. The median hospital stay was 3 days. After a median follow-up of 32 months, a closure rate of 53.3% was detected. Non-significant differences were observed in various variables, yet trends emerged, indicating associations between abscess presence and non-healing fistulas. A distinct age threshold (≥ 42.7 years) served as an indicator for an inability to achieve anal fistula cure. CONCLUSION: Obsidian RFT® represents a safe, minimally invasive operative procedure. Approximately half the patients experienced healing, with better outcome in a younger population. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Ethical Approval number Medical University of Vienna (#1258/2018). Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is prepared by spontaneous coagulation of fractionated blood. When squeezed between two plates, PRF is separated into solid PRF membranes and a liquid exudate, the PRF serum. The question arises regarding how much the overall activity remains in the PRF membranes and what is discarded into the PRF serum. To this end, we have exposed gingival fibroblasts to lysates prepared from PRF membranes and PRF serum, followed by bulk RNA sequencing. A total of 268 up- and 136 down-regulated genes in gingival fibroblasts exposed to PRF membrane lysates were significantly regulated under the premise of a minimum log2 with 2.5-fold change and a minus log10 significance level of two, respectively. PRF serum only caused 62 up- and 32 down-regulated genes under these conditions. Among the 46 commonly up-regulated genes were CXCL1, CXCL5, CXCL6, CXCL8, IL33, IL6, and PTGS2/COX2, stanniocalcin-1-all linked to an inflammatory response. PRF membrane lysates further increased chemokines CCL2, CCL7, CXCL2, CXCL3, and IL1R1, IL1RL1, and IL1RN, as well as the paracrine factors IL11, LIF, IGF1, BMP2, BMP6, FGF2, and CCN2/CTGF, and all hyaluronan synthases. On the other hand, PRF serum increased DKK1. The genes commonly down-regulated by PRF membrane lysates and PRF serum included interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats (IFIT1, IFIT2, IFIT3) and odd-skipped-related transcription factors (OSR1 and OSR2), as well as FGF18 and GDF15, respectively. Taken together, PRF membrane lysates, compared to PRF serum, cause a more complex response in gingival fibroblasts, but each increased chemokine expression in gingival fibroblasts.
