RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Adiposity favors several metabolic disorders with an exacerbated chronic pro-inflammatory status and tissue damage, with high levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) and proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the influence of bariatric surgery on the crosstalk between PAI-1 and PCSK9 to regulate metabolic markers. METHODS: Observational and longitudinal study of 190 patients with obesity and obesity-related comorbidities who underwent bariatric surgery. We measured, before and after bariatric surgery, the anthropometric variables and we performed biochemical analysis by standard methods (glucose, insulin, triglycerides [TG], total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol [HDL-C], low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL-C] and TG/HDL-C ratio, PAI-1 and PCSK9 were measured by ELISA). RESULTS: PAI-1 levels decreased significantly after bariatric surgery, and were positively correlated with lipids, glucose, and TG, with significance on PCSK9 and TG/HDL-C alleviating the insulin resistance (IR) and inducing a state reversal of type 2 diabetes (T2D) with a significant decrease in body weight and BMI (p <0.0001). Multivariate regression analysis predicted a functional model in which PAI-1 acts as a regulator of PCSK9 (p <0.002), TG (p <0.05), and BMI; at the same time, PCSK9 modulates LDL-C HDL-C and PAI-1. CONCLUSIONS: After bariatric surgery, we found a positive association and crosstalk between PAI-1 and PCSK9, which modulates the delicate balance of cholesterol, favoring the decrease of circulating lipids, TG, and PAI-1, which influences the glucose levels with amelioration of IR and T2D, demonstrating the crosstalk between fibrinolysis and lipid metabolism, the two main factors involved in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease in human obesity.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review aims to critically examine how VLCKD affects plasma lipoprotein, lipid and cholesterol metabolism. Cardiovascular disease is a worldwide health problem affecting millions of people and leading to high rates of mortality and morbidity. There is a well-established association between cardiovascular disease and circulating cholesterol. Various dietary recommendations are currently available for the management of dyslipidemia. RECENT FINDINGS: The very low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD) is becoming increasingly popular as a treatment option for several pathological conditions, including dyslipidemia. In addition to being low in calories, the VLCKD's main feature is its unique calorie distribution, emphasizing a reduction in carbohydrate consumption in favor of fat as the primary calorie source. Lowering calorie intake through a VLCKD can reduce the endogenous production of cholesterol. However, if the foods consumed are from animal sources, dietary cholesterol intake may increase due to the higher fat content of animal products. When combined, these dietary practices may have opposing effects on plasma cholesterol levels. Studies investigating the impact of VLCKD on plasma cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels report contradictory findings. While some studies found an increase in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, others showed a decrease in total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, along with an increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Objective: To compare the concentration of Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL-c) obtained using the Friedewald formula with those obtained directly with the RAYTO CHEMRAY 120 autoanalyzer. Methods: Cross-sectional study. We evaluated outpatients with a medical request for a lipid profile study (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL). The analyses were carried out in a RAYTO CHEMRAY 120 autoanalyzer under the principle of spectrophotometry. We obtained LDL-c using the Friedewald and Vujovic formulas. Results: We evaluated 199 individuals whose direct LDL concentration averages were measured by the RAYTO CHEMRAY 120 equipment. Those calculated by the Friedewald and Vujovic formulas were 129.97 ± 32.66, 119.28 ± 30.44, and 127.01 ± 32.01, respectively, and in all cases, significant differences (P < 0.001) were observed with the RAYTO analyzer. In both cases a low positive bias was found with the RAYTO analyzer.. The Passing-Bablok and Deming's regressions showed a linear correlation between both methods (Friedewald and Vujovic) with the LDL values obtained with the Rayto autoanalyzer. Conclusions: Our study found that the Friedewald and Vujovic methods are good predictors of LDL cholesterol levels and have a low level of bias. Therefore, they could be used as potential predictors.

Conclusión: Nuestro estudio encontro que los métodos de Friedewald y Vujovic son buenos predictores de los niveles de colesterol LDL y presentan un nivel de sesgo bajo. Por lo que podrían usarse como potenciales predictores.

INTRODUCTION: A new cardiovascular risk (CVR) calculator that incorporates Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] levels has recently been designed. AIMS: To estimate CVR using the new score and to identify the reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or systolic blood pressure (SBP) necessary to balance the risk attributable to Lp(a). METHODS: CVR throughout life and at 10 years was estimated with the new score in patients in primary prevention, both considering and not considering the value of Lp(a). When the estimated risk considering Lp(a) levels exceeded the baseline risk, the reduction in LDL-C levels or SBP necessary to balance the risk attributable to Lp(a) was calculated. RESULTS: In total, 671 patients (mean age 54.2 years, 47.2% women) were included. Globally, 22.7% of the population had high Lp(a) values (> 50 mg/dL or > 125 nmol/L). When calculating CVR throughout life and considering the Lp(a) value, the global risk increased in 66.7% of cases (median 19.3%). Similar results were observed when we assessed the 10-year risk. The risk associated with Lp(a) could be completely compensated by decreasing LDL-C (average 21 mg/dL) or SBP (average 6.3 mmHg) in 79.2% and 74.7% of cases, respectively. CONCLUSION: When calculating the CVR with the new score, two-thirds and one-third of the population were bidirectionally recategorized as 'up' or 'down,' respectively. The decrease in LDL-C or SBP mitigated the increased risk caused by Lp(a) levels across a substantial proportion of patients.

La alta prevalencia de hipotiroidismo subclínico en Chile puede deberse a que el límite superior normal de la hormona estimulante del tiroides (TSH) sérica es bajo. Personas con TSH levemente mayor al límite superior pueden ser metabólicamente similares a personas sanas. Se compararon marcadores de acción tiroidea (gasto energético en reposo [GER] y lipoproteína de baja densidad [LDL]) en adultos con hipotiroidismo subclínico leve y con función tiroidea normal con o sin tratamiento con levotiroxina. Se midió GER, perfil lipídico y tiroideo en personas sanas con función tiroidea normal (TSH ≥0,4-<4,5 µUI/ml; n=91); con hipotiroidismo subclínico leve (TSH ≥4,5-≤6,5 µUI/ml; n=5); y con hipotiroidismo clínico tratado con levotiroxina y TSH normal (n=13). Se analizó la LDL en 838 personas sanas con función tiroidea normal y 89 con hipotiroidismo subclínico leve de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud 2016/17 (ENS). El GER, ajustado por peso, sexo y edad, fue similar entre grupos (p=0,71). La LDL fue similar entre personas con función tiroidea normal e hipotiroidismo subclínico leve (91±24 vs. 101±17 mg/dl; p=0,67), y menor en hipotiroidismo tratado (64±22 mg/dl; p<0,01). La LDL no se asoció con TSH pero si inversamente con T4L en mujeres (r=-0,33; p=0,02; n=53). En la ENS, ambos grupos tuvieron similar LDL (p=0,34), la que se asoció inversamente con T4L en mujeres (r=-0,12; p=0,01; n=569) pero no con TSH. Personas sanas con función tiroidea normal y con hipotiroidismo subclínico leve tienen similar GER y LDL. Esto apoya la idea de redefinir el límite superior normal de TSH.


The high prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in Chile may be due to the low normal upper limit of serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). People with TSH slightly higher than the upper limit may be metabolically similar to healthy people. Thyroid action markers (resting energy expenditure [REE] and low-density lipoprotein [LDL]) were compared in adults with mild subclinical hypothyroidism and with normal thyroid function with or without levothyroxine treatment. REE, lipid and thyroid profile were measured in healthy people with normal thyroid function (TSH ≥0,4-<4,5 µUI/ml (n=91); with mild subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH ≥4,5-≤6 µUI/ml; n=5); and with clinical hypothyroidism treated with levothyroxine and normal TSH (n=13). LDL was analyzed in 838 healthy people with normal thyroid function and 89 with mild subclinical hypothyroidism from the 2016/17 National Health Survey (NHS). REE, adjusted for weight, sex and age, was similar between the groups (p=0,71). LDL was similar between people with normal thyroid function and mild subclinical hypothyroidism (91±24 vs. 101±17 mg/dl; p=0,67), and lower in treated hypothyroidism (64±22 mg/dl; p<0,01). LDL was not associated with TSH but was inversely with FT4 in women (r=-0,33; p=0,02; n=53). In the NHS, both groups had similar serum LDL (p=0,34), which was inversely associated with FT4 in women (r=-0,12; p=0,01; n=569), but not with TSH. Healthy people with normal thyroid function and mild subclinical hypothyroidism have similar REE and LDL. These results support the idea of redefining the normal upper limit of TSH.

AIMS: PCSK9 inhibition intensively lowers low density lipoprotein cholesterol and is well tolerated in adults and paediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). HAUSER-RCT showed that 24 weeks of treatment with evolocumab in paediatric patients did not affect cognitive function. This study determined the effects of 80 additional weeks of evolocumab treatment on cognitive function in paediatric patients with heterozygous FH. METHODS AND RESULTS: HAUSER-OLE was an 80-week open-label extension of HAUSER-RCT, a randomized, double-blind, 24-week trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of evolocumab in paediatric patients (ages 10-17 years) with FH. During the OLE, all patients received monthly 420 mg subcutaneous evolocumab injections. Tests of psychomotor function, attention, visual learning, and executive function were administered at baseline and Weeks 24 and 80 of the OLE. Changes over time were analysed descriptively and using analysis of covariance. Cohen's d statistic was used to evaluate the magnitude of treatment effects. Analysis of covariance results indicated no decrease in performance across visits during 80 weeks of evolocumab treatment for Groton Maze Learning, One Card Learning accuracy, Identification speed, or Detection speed (all P > 0.05). Performance on all tasks was similar for those who received placebo or evolocumab in the RCT (all P > 0.05). For all tests, the least square mean differences between patients who received placebo vs. evolocumab in the parent study were trivial (all Cohen's d magnitude < 0.2). CONCLUSION: In paediatric patients with FH, 80 weeks of open-label evolocumab treatment had no negative impact on cognitive function. REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02624869.


Some children are born with a genetic disorder that causes high cholesterol, which leads to heart disease. Children with high cholesterol can be treated with evolocumab, a medication that lowers blood cholesterol. Because cholesterol is important for development and adequate function of the brain, there is a concern that lowering cholesterol in children may affect mental ability. In this study, we tested whether treating children with evolocumab for 80 weeks affected mental ability in performing several tasks. A battery of tests that measure executive function (Groton Maze Learning Test), visual learning (One Card Learning Test), visual attention (Identification Test), and psychomotor function (Detection Test) showed no decrease in performance across visits during 80 weeks of evolocumab treatment. Performance on all tasks was similar for the children who received placebo for the first 24 weeks then received evolocumab for an additional 80 weeks (placebo/evolocumab) and those who received evolocumab for 24 weeks then received evolocumab for an additional 80 weeks (evolocumab/evolocumab).

Relatively little is known about how the diet of chronically undernourished children may impact cardiometabolic biomarkers. The objective of this exploratory study was to characterise relationships between dietary patterns and the cardiometabolic profile of 153 3-5-year-old Peruvian children with a high prevalence of chronic undernutrition. We collected monthly dietary recalls from children when they were 9-24 months old. At 3-5 years, additional dietary recalls were collected, and blood pressure, height, weight, subscapular skinfolds and fasting plasma glucose, insulin and lipid profiles were assessed. Nutrient intakes were expressed as average density per 100 kcals (i) from 9 to 24 months and (ii) at follow-up. The treelet transform and sparse reduced rank regress'ion (RRR) were used to summarize nutrient intake data. Linear regression models were then used to compare these factors to cardiometabolic outcomes and anthropometry. Linear regression models adjusting for subscapular skinfold-for-age Z-scores (SSFZ) were then used to test whether observed relationships were mediated by body composition. 26 % of children were stunted at 3-5 years old. Both treelet transform and sparse RRR-derived child dietary factors are related to protein intake and associated with total cholesterol and SSFZ. Associations between dietary factors and insulin were attenuated after adjusting for SSFZ, suggesting that body composition mediated these relationships. Dietary factors in early childhood, influenced by protein intake, are associated with cholesterol profiles, fasting glucose and body fat in a chronically undernourished population.

BACKGROUND: The benefits of physical activity in health outcomes are well established. However, recent evidence suggests that benefits may differ by domain and population. Thus, we aimed to investigate the prospective association of occupational (OPA) and leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) with cardiovascular risk factors. METHODS: In 1982, the maternity hospitals of Pelotas were visited daily; those live births whose families lived in urban areas were evaluated, and their mothers were later interviewed (n = 5914). In the 2004/5 follow-up (23 y old), both OPA and LTPA were measured in 4295 participants using their respective sections of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. In the 2012 follow-up (30 y old), the following cardiovascular risk factors were collected: high-density lipoprotein (in milligrams per deciliter), low-density lipoprotein (in milligrams per deciliter), triglycerides (in milligrams per deciliter), glucose (in milligrams per deciliter), and blood pressure (in millimeters of mercury). Multivariable linear regressions were performed to evaluate associations between OPA and LTPA with these specific cardiovascular risk factors. RESULTS: In total, 3241 participants were analyzed. Our main findings suggest that there was no association between OPA and LTPA with high- and low-density lipoprotein. There were inverse associations between OPA and lower levels of triglycerides among males (ß = -0.002; 95% confidence interval, -0.003 to -0.000) and positive associations between LTPA and higher levels of diastolic blood pressure among females (ß = 0.111; 95% confidence interval, 0.005-0.216). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our findings suggest that there was no association, or association with limited clinical relevance, of OPA and LTPA with cardiovascular risk factors in early adulthood.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) plasma concentration decline is a biomarker for acute inflammatory diseases, including coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Phenotypic changes in LDL during COVID-19 may be equally related to adverse clinical outcomes. METHODS: Individuals hospitalized due to COVID-19 (n = 40) were enrolled. Blood samples were collected on days 0, 2, 4, 6, and 30 (D0, D2, D4, D6, and D30). Oxidized LDL (ox-LDL), and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) activity were measured. In a consecutive series of cases (n = 13), LDL was isolated by gradient ultracentrifugation from D0 and D6 and was quantified by lipidomic analysis. Association between clinical outcomes and LDL phenotypic changes was investigated. RESULTS: In the first 30 days, 42.5% of participants died due to Covid-19. The serum ox-LDL increased from D0 to D6 (p < 0.005) and decreased at D30. Moreover, individuals who had an ox-LDL increase from D0 to D6 to over the 90th percentile died. The plasma Lp-PLA2 activity also increased progressively from D0 to D30 (p < 0.005), and the change from D0 to D6 in Lp-PLA2 and ox-LDL were positively correlated (r = 0.65, p < 0.0001). An exploratory untargeted lipidomic analysis uncovered 308 individual lipids in isolated LDL particles. Paired-test analysis from D0 and D6 revealed higher concentrations of 32 lipid species during disease progression, mainly represented by lysophosphatidyl choline and phosphatidylinositol. In addition, 69 lipid species were exclusively modulated in the LDL particles from non-survivors as compared to survivors. CONCLUSIONS: Phenotypic changes in LDL particles are associated with disease progression and adverse clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients and could serve as a potential prognostic biomarker.

Maternal obesity and the imbalance in linoleic acid (C18:2 n-6, LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (C18:3 n-3, ALA) levels are related with hepatic disturbances in the offspring. However, whether these alterations are present during fetal life is not well understood. Obese and normal weight pregnant women were recruited to determine fatty acids (FAs) consumption, FAs profile (in maternal erythrocytes, placenta and neonatal very low-density lipoproteins VLDL) and biomarkers of fetal liver function, such as gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and albumin, in umbilical cord blood. Stearic acid (C18:0, ST) was lower, and total n-3 FAs tended to be lower in umbilical cord VLDLs of obese women compared to controls. Independently of maternal obesity, GGT levels in umbilical cord blood was positively correlated with the LA content and negatively correlated with the ALA content in maternal erythrocytes. We conclude that maternal obesity and its imbalance of LA and ALA are associated with changes in biomarkers of fetal liver function.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of statin response on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. METHODS: A total of 1029 ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients were enrolled in the study. The patients who failed to achieve >40% reduction in baseline low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels within 30 days to 12 months after statin initiation were defined as suboptimal statin responders. The adjusted hazard ratios for cardiovascular outcomes for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol response to statins were estimated via the Cox proportional regression model. The relationship between the statin response and cardiovascular outcomes was also evaluated in a subgroup of on-treatment low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels below 55 mg/dL. RESULTS: Among the study population, 573 (55.6%) patients demonstrated suboptimal low-density lipoprotein cholesterol response to statin therapy. These patients showed a significantly higher incidence of the composite of major adverse cardiovascular events, including cardiovascular death, reinfarction, recurrent myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization during the follow-up compared with optimal responders (adjusted hazard ratios 3.99; 95%CI 2.66-6.01; p<0.001). In a subgroup of patients with on-treatment low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels below 55 mg/dL, suboptimal statin responders also showed unfavorable cardiovascular outcomes (adjusted hazard ratios 8.73; 95%CI 2.81-27.1; p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The present study showed that over half of the patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction did not exhibit optimal low-density lipoprotein cholesterol response to statin. These patients have an increased risk of future major adverse cardiovascular events.

PURPOSE: Little is known about the association between serum zinc (Zn) levels and obesity in the Mexican population. Therefore, we tested the association between serum Zn levels, obesity status, and serum lipid levels in a sample of Mexican adults. METHODS: Anthropometric data and serum levels of total cholesterol, high- and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C and LDL-C, respectively), and triglycerides were analyzed in 96 Mexican adults. Serum Zn was measured with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. An individual data meta-analysis of the association between serum Zn, overweight, and obesity status was performed in 172 adults from two different provinces in Mexico. RESULTS: Serum Zn was negatively associated with body mass index (BMI, ß = -0.034 ± 0.013, p = 2.0 ×10-6) and obesity (odds ratio [OR]= 0.990, 95% confidence interval [CI]= 0.980-0.999, p = 3.4 ×10-5). The association between Zn level and obesity in Mexican adults was confirmed with an individual data meta-analysis (OR= 0.977, 95% CI= 0.966-0.988, p = 3.4 ×10-5). In addition, a significant interaction effect between serum Zn level and sex was observed on LDL-C level (ß = 7.010 ± 3.295, p = 0.037). Serum Zn was negatively associated with LDL-C levels in women (ß = -0.188 ± 0.074, p = 0.016). CONCLUSION: Our results confirm the negative association of serum Zn level with obesity. For the first time, we show a sex-specific association between serum Zn and LDL-C levels in a Mexican population. However, further studies are needed in larger and more varied Mexican cohorts to replicate and confirm our findings.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of safflower oil supplementation on the metabolic parameters, body weight, and abdominal adiposity in male Wistar rats fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) while undergoing exercise training. The rats were assigned to four groups: standard diet and sedentary (SDS), high-fat diet and sedentary (HFDS), high-fat diet and training (HFDT), and high-fat diet, training, and safflower oil (HFDTSO) groups. HFD significantly increased the abdominal adiposity in male Wistar rats. The safflower oil had no effect on the body weight and levels of blood glucose, TG, and TC, but it significantly reduced abdominal adiposity in male Wistar rats fed with an HFD while undergoing exercise training. Safflower oil supplementation reduced the abdominal fat in rats undergoing swimming training.

Growth in early infancy is hypothesized to affect chronic disease risk factors later in life. To date, most reports draw on European-ancestry cohorts with few repeated observations in early infancy. We investigated the association between infant growth before 6 months and lipid levels in adolescents in a Hispanic/Latino cohort. We characterized infant growth from birth to 5 months in male (n = 311) and female (n = 285) infants from the Santiago Longitudinal Study (1991-1996) using 3 metrics: weight (kg), length (cm), and weight-for-length (g/cm). Superimposition by translation and rotation (SITAR) and latent growth mixture models (LGMMs) were used to estimate the association between infant growth characteristics and lipid levels at age 17 years. We found a positive relationship between the SITAR length velocity parameter before 6 months of age and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in adolescence (11.5, 95% confidence interval; 3.4, 19.5), indicating higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels occurring with faster length growth. The strongest associations from the LGMMs were between higher low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and slower weight-for-length growth, following a pattern of associations between slower growth and adverse lipid profiles. Further research in this window of time can confirm the association between early infant growth as an exposure and adolescent cardiovascular disease risk factors.

The term "triglyceride-rich lipoproteins" (TRLs) includes chylomicrons and their remnants, very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), and intermediate-density lipoproteins (IDL). In this manuscript, the mechanisms by which atherogenic TRLs contribute to the formation of atheroma plaques are reviewed. Cholesterol from TRLs that can be retained in the subendothelial space (i.e., remnants, DLs, and small VLDLs) contributes to the genesis of atherosclerosis. Triglycerides of atherogenic TRLs induce inflammation of the arterial wall. Mechanisms that explain the involvement of TRLs in atherosclerosis are the generation of pro-atherogenic changes in high-density lipoproteins and low-density lipoproteins, accumulation of TRLs in plasma, and their passage to the subendothelial space where they cause endothelial dysfunction and inflammation of the vascular wall. Furthermore, plasma accumulation of TRLs causes hyperviscosity and a procoagulant state. Finally, this manuscript summarizes the controversial aspects of the clinical approach and the treatment of cases with dyslipidemia explained by atherogenic TRLs.

RESUMEN

Type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance feature substantial modifications of the lipoprotein profile, including a higher proportion of smaller and denser low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles. In addition, qualitative changes occur in the composition and structure of LDL, including changes in electrophoretic mobility, enrichment of LDL with triglycerides and ceramides, prolonged retention of modified LDL in plasma, increased uptake by macrophages, and the formation of foam cells. These modifications affect LDL functions and favor an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in diabetic individuals. In this review, we discuss the main findings regarding the structural and functional changes in LDL particles in diabetes pathophysiology and therapeutic strategies targeting LDL in patients with diabetes.

Abstract Background: Sizeable proportion of patients have discordant low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHDL-C). It has been shown that discordance of LDL-C and NHDL-C either underestimates or overestimates coronary risk. Objectıve: We assessed whether this discordance has an impact on GRACE and TIMI risk scores in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the data of 198 consecutive patients with AMI. Fasting serum lipid profiles were recorded, GRACE and TIMI scores were calculated. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to LDL-C and NHDL-C percentiles: Discordant group: LDL-C<NHDL-C (n=38), concordant group: LDL-C=NHDL-C (n=112) and discordant group LDL-C>NHDL-C (n=48). GRACE and TIMI scores, mortality and cardiovascular events (heart failure, non-fatal myocardial infarction and angina) at sixth month were compared between these three groups. Differences between these groups were analyzed with One-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis rank test, and with chi-square for percentages. Also, post hoc LSD or Conover-Iman's non-parametric multiple comparison test were used. A p value <0.05 was accepted as statistically significant. Results: TIMI risk score didn't differ between discordant or concordant groups. Mean GRACE (death) and GRACE (death and MI) scores were higher in group with LDL-C<NHDL-C than with LDL-C=NHDL-C and LDL-C>NHDL-C (p=0.029 and 0.008, respectively). Cardiovascular events and mortality at sixth month were not different among groups (p=0.473 and p=0.176, respectively). Conclusion: GRACE score was higher in discordant group with LDL-C<NHDL-C, but there is no difference regarding TIMI scores between discordant and concordant groups in AMI patients.
