RESUMEN

AIMS: This study explores the link between mindfulness, compassion competence and job burnout among nurses, and analyses the mediating role that compassion competence plays in this relationship. BACKGROUND: Understanding nurses' mindfulness, compassion competence and job burnout is important, which could help devise interventions to relieve burnout in clinical nurses. METHODS: This study adopts convenience sampling method and descriptive design quantitative research. A cross-sectional study of 513 nurses was conducted from June to October 2023 in mainland China. The Socio-demographic Questionnaire, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Service Survey and Compassion Competence Scale for the Nurses were utilised to gather basic demographic information on nurses and to evaluate their level of mindfulness, compassion competence and job burnout. Descriptive statistics, Spearman's correlation analyses and structural equation model were used to analyse the data. RESULTS: Five hundred and thirteen valid questionnaires were gathered. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed a strong negative link between mindfulness and job burnout, and between compassion competence and burnout, and a significant positive correlation between mindfulness and compassion competence. The results of the mediation analysis revealed that the relationship between mindfulness and job burnout was partially mediated by compassion competence, and the mediating effect accounted for 18.6% of the total effect. CONCLUSION: Compassion competence performed as a partial mediator between mindfulness and job burnout among nurses. Nursing managers could enhance nurses' mindfulness level and compassion competence through Mindfulness interventions and Compassion training to reduce their burnout. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This study offers a fresh viewpoint on enhancing clinical nurses' compassion competence and reducing job burnout. Healthcare organisations and medical institutions can mitigate nurses' job burnout by improving their mindfulness levels and compassion competence. REPORTING METHOD: The study used the STROBE checklist for reporting. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: All participants were nurses who completed an electronic questionnaire related to this study.

Introduction: Emergency medical services rely heavily on paramedics who, as frontline responders, face unique stressors that can potentially lead to burnout. This pilot study utilizes the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) to assess burnout levels among Polish paramedics. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of burnout in this specific professional context and identify key factors influencing burnout dimensions. Future research will build on these preliminary findings. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 01 to April 30, 2023, utilizing an online survey accessible to Polish paramedics. The OLBI, a validated tool, was employed to measure burnout, focusing on two dimensions: exhaustion and withdrawal of involvement. Results: Among the 147 participating paramedics, the majority were male (65.99%). Paramedics exhibited burnout symptoms across both dimensions measured by The Oldenburg Burnout Inventory scale (OLBI), with an average level for lack of commitment recorded at 20.09, an average level for exhaustion at 20.60. The study revealed that 41.5% of paramedics experienced low burnout, 44.9% reported moderate burnout, and 13.6% faced high burnout risks. Analysis showed that women experienced significantly higher levels of exhaustion compared to men (p = 0.01). Conclusion: This pilot study provides valuable initial insights into burnout among Polish paramedics. The OLBI's two-factor structure, evaluating exhaustion and disengagement, proved reliable and valid in this context. The prevalence of burnout, with over 60% of paramedics experiencing moderate to high levels, highlights the urgency of addressing burnout in this profession. Future research will be essential to explore the underlying causes and develop targeted interventions. Practical implications: Understanding the factors contributing to burnout among paramedics is crucial for developing targeted interventions. Strategies should focus on stress management training, organizational support, and well-being initiatives. Addressing gender-specific differences in burnout experiences is essential for tailoring interventions effectively. Proactive psychological support mechanisms and optimized working conditions can enhance paramedics' overall well-being, ensuring their continued effectiveness in providing emergency medical services.

AIMS: To identify correlations among job burnout, structural empowerment, and patient safety culture (PSC), and to explore the potential moderating effect of structural empowerment on the associations between burnout and PSC. DESIGN: The study used a cross-sectional survey design. METHODS: Convenient sampling was employed. We conducted an anonymous online survey in January 2024 among nurses employed at hospitals in three regions of China. Job burnout, structural empowerment, and perceptions of PSC were assessed. A total of 1026 useable surveys were included in the analyses. Descriptive statistics were performed using SPSS software. A latent structural equation modeling approach using Mplus software was used to analyze the moderating effect. RESULTS: The proposed hypothetical model was supported. Job burnout had a strong direct negative effect on structural empowerment and PSC. Structural empowerment had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between job burnout and PSC. CONCLUSION: The empirically validated moderation model and study results suggest that managers of healthcare organisations can improve patient safety and care quality by fostering empowerment and providing sufficient support to clinical nurses. IMPLICATION: The findings of this study suggest that providing more support, resources, and information is likely to be effective in weakening the detrimental impact of job burnout on PSC. This study provides insights into the possible approaches that may improve patient safety. To control the impact of nurses' burnout on care quality, nurse managers should increase empowerment as well as staff nurse engagement. REPORTING METHOD: We have adhered to relevant EQUATOR guidelines and conducted an observational study, following the STROBE checklist. PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: During the data collection phase of this study, clinical caregivers participated in completing the online survey.

BACKGROUND: Adherence to ethical principles and standards in all health professions, especially in the nursing, can have positive outcomes. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the correlation between organizational ethics and professional ethics with organizational commitment and job burnout in nursing staff. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on the nurses working in Shahid Montazeri hospital in Najafabad city. Participants were selected by census method. An online questionnaire was used to collect the data, which consisted of demographic information, Hunt et al.'s organizational ethics questionnaire, Petty's professional ethics inventory, Maslach and Jackson's job burnout questionnaire and Allen and Mayer's organizational commitment questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling (SEM) with SPSS-27 and Amos-23 statistical software. RESULTS: A total of 197 subjects with the mean age of 34.67 ± 7.74 years participated in this study. Most of the participants were female (89.3%) and married (77.2%). The majority of them had a bachelor's degree (86.3%) and 61.4% of the participants participated as a nurse. There were significant positive correlations between organizational ethics (r = 0.551, p < 0.01) and professional ethics (r = 0.44, p < 0.01) with organizational commitment. Also, there were significant negative correlations between organizational ethics (r=-0.532, p < 0.01) and professional ethics (r=-0.602, p < 0.01) with job burnout. CONCLUSION: Considering the importance of compliance with ethics in the workplace by nursing staff and its consequences such as increasing organizational commitment and reducing job burnout, it is suggested that hospital managers emphasize the compliance with ethics in the workplace as a model. They can also familiarize nursing staff with the principles and basics of organizational and professional ethics by holding training courses.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to explore the job burnout of primary healthcare workers in Guangzhou during the prevention and control of COVID-19 epidemic and its influencing factors from the perspective of institutional operation and management in 2021-2022. METHODS: A cross-sectional study involved 866 primary healthcare workers from different districts of Guangzhou, China. The Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) was utilized to assess job burnout. From the perspective of organizational operation and management, the possible causes of job burnout among primary healthcare workers during COVID-19 have been categorized into 7 major aspects. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify influencing factors for job burnout in primary healthcare workers. RESULTS: The detection rate of job burnout among primary healthcare workers was 78.29%. Men (OR = 2.39) and whose institution was located in urban-rural fringe (OR = 1.56) were more likely to detect job burnout. Conversely, institution heads showed a lower risk of job burnout. From the perspective of institutional operation and management, workers who were not satisfied with personnel management (OR = 2.41), materials and vehicles (OR = 2.89), subsidies and compensation (OR = 2.18), humanistic care (OR = 2.11), superior management (OR = 8.32) were found to have a higher risk of job burnout. CONCLUSION: The detection rate of job burnout among primary healthcare workers in Guangzhou was relatively high during the period of COVID-19. When there is another sudden major epidemic, the managers of institutions can focus on and deal with the problems related to the operation and management of institutions such as personnel management, materials and vehicles, subsidies and compensation, humanistic care, and superior management, so as to provide logistical support for the workers and alleviate their job burnout.

Job burnout and work pressure are pivotal concerns in human resource management and workplace mental health, profoundly impacting organizational sustainability and individual well-being. Grounded in the person-environment fit theory, this empirical study quantitatively investigates the psychological mechanisms of person-job fit and person-organization fit in job burnout, highlighting the mediating role of work pressure. To test our hypotheses, we investigated 477 employees from 63 IT enterprises around China's Pearl River Delta region. The findings reveal that person-job fit is negatively associated with job burnout and work pressure, while work pressure positively influences job burnout, partially mediating the relationship between person-job fit and job burnout. Similarly, person-organization fit negatively affects job burnout and work pressure. However, its direct influence on job burnout is insignificant, indicating that work pressure fully mediates the relationship between person-organization fit and job burnout. These findings are consistent with the person-environment fit theory, enhancing our understanding of how individuals fit with their jobs and how organizations affect job burnout through work pressure. This study offers valuable insights for organizations seeking to mitigate burnout and promote employee well-being.

Background: To determine the relationship between effort-reward imbalance (ERI) and quality of working life (QWL) among medical caregivers and the mediating role of job burnout. Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey. A total of 787 medical caregivers at seven hospitals from Sichuan and Chongqing, China, between May to September 2023 were included in this observational study. The General Information Questionnaire, Effort-Reward Imbalance Questionnaire (ERI), Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), and Quality of Working Life Scale (QWL7-32) were used for data collection. SPSS 26.0 and PROCESSv3.3 were used for all data analyses, including descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 820 questionnaires were distributed, of which only 787 were valid (return rate; 95.98%). The QWL score of medical caregivers was 126.94 ± 16.69. However, QWL scores were significantly different depending on age, number of children, family support status, department, years of experience, night shift status, number of night shifts per month, number of hours worked per day, monthly income, and occurrence of errors or adverse events (p < 0.05). Furthermore, job burnout and ERI were negatively correlated with QWL (p < 0.01). Job burnout mediated (95% CI = -0.365, -0.260) the relationship between ERI and QWL, accounting for 58.65% of the total effect. Conclusion: Medical caregivers have a medium level of QWL. Job burnout partially mediates the relationship between ERI and QWL. Medical caregiver managers can improve QWL by directly intervening in occupational stress and indirectly intervening in job burnout.

PURPOSE: With the rapid development of China's social work sector, the increasing job pressures, and risks of professional burnout among social workers have become more prevalent. This study examined the relationship between Chinese social workers' attitudes toward evidence-based practice (EBP) and burnout, exploring the mediating mechanisms of evidence-based knowledge (EBK) and service quality perception (SQP). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We applied PROCESS 4.2 macro in SPSS to analyze the data from 5,931 social workers, testing the sequential mediation effects of EBK and SQP between their attitudes toward EBP and burnout. RESULTS: The findings revealed: (1) Attitudes toward EBP had significant indirect positive effects on burnout; (2) EBK partially mediated the relationship between EBP attitude and burnout; (3) SQP partially mediated the relationship between attitudes toward EBP and burnout; (4) Attitudes toward EBP had a sequential mediated effect on burnout through EBK and SQP. DISCUSSION: The findings emphasize the need to implement targeted interventions and training programs to foster positive attitudes toward EBP, promote continuous professional development, and provide access to EBP resources. Moreover, nurturing EBK and SQP could help alleviate burnout by improving social workers' ability to address client issues and enhance their sense of confidence and accomplishment. CONCLUSION: This study fills a research gap by providing empirical evidence on the negative correlation between Chinese social workers' attitudes toward EBP and burnout, while demonstrating the mediating roles of EBK and SQP.

BACKGROUND: Burnout is prevalent among pediatric residents. Self-efficacy and resilience, as concepts of positive psychology, may be protective factors for burnout. However, no current data demonstrates the mechanism of their interaction. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the pediatric residents' status of self-efficacy, resilience, and job burnout in a university-affiliated hospital in western China. To explore relationships among them, especially the mediating effects of resilience. METHODS: The study was conducted with 190 pediatric residents from an A-Class women's and children's hospital in western China. Data included demographic characteristics, status of pediatric residents, measures of burnout (using the Physicians' Career Burnout Questionnaire), self-efficacy (using the General Self-Efficacy Scale) and resilience (using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale). Multiple regression analysis and mediation analysis with bootstrapping were used to identify whether resilience mediates the relationship between self-efficacy and burnout. RESULTS: Female pediatric residents exhibited significantly lower self-efficacy (t = 2.53, p<0.05) and higher levels of job burnout (t=-2.64, p<0.01) compared to male residents. Residents in the standardized training stage experienced higher levels of job burnout compared to those who had completed the training, as indicated by t-values of -3.21, -2.13, and - 2.80 (p<0.05). Significant correlations (p ≤ 0.01) were found among self-efficacy, resilience, and burnout. Additionally, our findings indicated that pediatric residents' self-efficacy can positively predict job burnout and its three dimensions through a major mediating effect of resilience. CONCLUSIONS: The findings regarding the mediating effect of resilience on the influence of self-efficacy on burnout, and their association with gender and residency status, have practical implications for interventions aimed at reducing burnout and improving the well-being of pediatric residents.

Background: The number of clinical nurses in China experiencing professional burnout is increasing yearly, posing a serious challenge to the public health sector. Implementing effective intervention strategies is key to reducing the level of occupational burnout. At present, training aimed at alleviating occupational burnout among clinical nurses is very limited, with common training programs focusing on addressing external factors of occupational burnout rather than the internal cognitive issues of clinical nurses. Self-efficacy and future time perspective are both aspects of an individual's internal self-cognition. Meanwhile, the relationship between clinical nurses' self-efficacy, future time perspective, and occupational burnout is not clear, and further research is needed to verify this. Objective: This study aims to reveal the relationship between clinical nurses' self-efficacy, future time perspective, and occupational burnout, and to explore the mediating role of future time perspective between self-efficacy and occupational burnout among clinical nurses, providing a scientific reference for training directions to improve occupational burnout. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design, conducting a questionnaire survey with 529 practicing clinical nurses using the General Demographics Questionnaire (GDQ), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS). SPSS software version 26.0 was used to analyze the correlation between variables, and AMOS 26.0 was used to test the mediation effect. Results: Clinical nurses' self-efficacy had a negative predictive effect on occupational burnout (r = -0.503, p < 0.001). Future time perspective showed significant differences in regression coefficients on both the paths of self-efficacy (r = 0.615, p < 0.001) and occupational burnout (r = -0.374, p < 0.001). Future time perspective played a partial mediating role between self-efficacy and occupational burnout, accounting for 33.8% of the total effect. Conclusion: This study suggests a significant correlation between clinical nurses' self-efficacy, future time perspective, and occupational burnout. Self-efficacy can directly affect occupational burnout in clinical nurses and can also indirectly affect occupational burnout through the future time perspective.

It is probable that resilience can play a significant role in mitigating the impact of job burnout on workplace safety outcomes. Identification of these relations and paths can be useful for reducing burnout effects and reinforcing safety behavior factors. This study seeks to explore the relationship between job burnout and unsafe behavior, with a specific focus on the mediating role of resilience. This cross-sectional study, conducted in 2023, involved 200 workers in the spinning and weaving industries in central Iran. The study used printed questionnaires distributed to study participants during their rest periods to collect data for further analysis. The questionnaires included demographic information, the Maslach burnout inventory, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and a set of safety behavior questionnaires. Subsequently, the study analyzed various dimensions of job burnout with respect to unsafety behavior by constructing a theoretical model using AMOS software. The results indicate that three burnout dimensions indirectly influence safety compliance through resilience (P < 0.001). Specifically, depersonalization and personal accomplishment directly and indirectly affect safety participation through resilience and safety compliance (P < 0.001). Resilience had the highest direct and total effect coefficients on safety compliance (0.692 and 0.692), while emotional exhaustion exhibited the highest indirect coefficients (- 0.505). Regarding safety participation, the highest direct coefficient was associated with personal accomplishment (0.406), and the greatest indirect and total coefficients with depersonalization (- 0.370 and - 0.588). By recognizing the differential impacts of various burnout dimensions, tailored interventions can be developed to address specific facets of burnout, thus optimizing safety initiatives. Moreover, the pivotal role of resilience unveils a promising avenue for mitigating the adverse effects of burnout on unsafe behaviors.

BACKGROUND: In the nursing profession, the concept of self-compassion has been associated with burnout. However, to date, the fine-grained relationships between different dimensions of self-compassion and symptoms of burnout have not been investigated. Network analysis provides a new avenue for exploring the fine-grained correlation paths of two related variables. AIM: To analyse the nuanced associations between self-compassion and burnout using network analysis in a large cohort of Chinese nurses. DESIGN: A cross-sectional multi-centre survey design study. METHODS: Participants were recruited from 30 hospitals in China between April and May 2022. These nurses completed the Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (C-MBI-GS) and Self-Compassion Scale-Short Form (SCS-SF). Network analysis was performed to illustrate the complex nuanced relationships between self-compassion and burnout. RESULTS: A total of 1467 nurses (age 32.2 [18-56] years; 89.9% were female) participated in the study. Nodes Mindfulness and Isolation had the highest centralities measured by strength. Nodes Mindfulness, reduced personal accomplishment and Isolation were the most negative and positive influential nodes that bridged self-compassion and burnout. There were no differences in terms of gender, age, professional title and job tenure in the structure or connectivity of the self-compassion and burnout network. CONCLUSION: Different components of self-compassion were specifically associated with different dimensions of burnout in registered nurses. Among these, Mindfulness, Isolation and Reduced personal accomplishment were the three most important components of self-compassion for burnout symptoms. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: No patient or public contribution. IMPACT: Understanding the intricate connections between self-compassion and burnout will allow hospital administrators to prioritize the elements of Mindfulness and Isolation within self-compassion and the dimension of Reduced personal accomplishment within burnout when designing preventative measures and interventions aimed at reducing nurse burnout.

BACKGROUND: Due to work pressure, work intensity, and the impact of emergencies such as the epidemic, job burnout and mental health problems among medical staff have become increasingly prominent. OBJECTIVES: Our study aims to characterize the patterns of burnout in Chinese medical staff, explore the profile differences on anxiety and self-esteem, examine whether the differences in these profiles on anxiety were mediated by self-esteem, and investigate whether this mediating process was moderated by positive coping styles among medical staff. METHODS: Data were collected from 602 medical staff in China by a convenient sampling method. A latent profile and moderated mediation analysis were performed. RESULTS: Latent profile analysis on three burnout dimensions [emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and professional efficacy] indicated two burnout profiles: low burnout (82.47% of the sample) and high burnout (17.53%). Medical staff with a low burnout profile had lower levels of emotional exhaustion and cynicism than those with a high burnout profile. It was also determined that self-esteem mediates burnout and anxiety in both high- and low-burnout medical staff. The moderating role of positive coping styles was also identified (ß = 0.30, 95%CI: 0.058-0.550). CONCLUSIONS: The identification of two distinct burnout patterns (low burnout and high burnout) provides clinical administrators with clear goals for individualizing support and interventions for medical staff with different levels of burnout. Furthermore, attention should be given to self-esteem and positive coping styles, as they act as potential mediators and moderators of medical staff's mental health problems.

Background: Emotional intelligence can improve nurses' interpersonal and coping skills, job performance, and resilience. However, there is a dearth in the literature on whether emotional intelligence affects levels of quiet quitting, turnover intention, and job burnout in nurses. Objective: We examined the relationship between emotional intelligence, quiet quitting, turnover intention, and job burnout. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in Greece with a convenience sample of 992 nurses. We used the following valid tools to measure our study variables: the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form, the Quiet Quitting Scale, and the single item burnout measure. Results: The mean age of our nurses was 42.2 years. After controlling for gender, age, work experience, shift work, and understaffed department, the multivariable linear regression models indicated significant negative relationships between emotional intelligence and quiet quitting, turnover intention, and job burnout. Specifically, self-control reduced detachment, lack of motivation, job burnout, and turnover intention. Moreover, emotionality reduced detachment, lack of motivation, and lack of initiative. Sociability reduced lack of initiative and lack of motivation, while well-being reduced lack of motivation, job burnout, and turnover intention. Conclusion: Emotional intelligence reduced quiet quitting, turnover intention, and job burnout in nurses. Therefore, nurse managers and policy-makers should apply interventions to optimize the emotional intelligence profiles of nurses.

Introduction: The prevalence of workplace bullying, job burnout, and turnover intention among nursing staff increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, to the best of our knowledge, there are no studies that have measured the relationships among variables of interest after the pandemic. Objective: Our intention is to investigate the effect of workplace bullying on job burnout and turnover intention in nursing staff. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study during January-February 2024 in Greece. We obtained a convenience sample of 450 nurses. We used the 22-item Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised to assess workplace bullying. We measured job burnout with the single-item burnout measure. We measured nurses' turnover intention with a valid 6-point Likert scale. Results: The study sample included 450 nurses with the mean age of 39.1 years (standard deviation [SD] = 10.2). The mean workplace bullying score was 7.7 (SD = 2.0), while the mean job burnout score was 7.7 (SD = 2.0). Among our nurses, 57.3% showed a high level of turnover intention. After eliminating confounders, we found that increased workplace bullying (adjusted beta = 0.031, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.023 to 0.039, p < 0.001) was associated with increased job burnout. Moreover, multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that increased turnover intention was more common among nurses who experienced higher levels of workplace bullying (adjusted odds ratio = 1.057, 95% CI = 1.043 to 1.071, p < 0.001). Conclusion: We found a positive relationship between workplace bullying, job burnout, and turnover intention. Nurse managers, organizations, and policy-makers ought to consider such findings to intervene and decrease workplace bullying by improving working conditions.

Background: Rural-to-urban migrant workers are a vulnerable group at risk of developing depression. Based on the social-ecological systems theory, this study investigates the impact of the lack of social integration on depression, considering the mediating roles of migrant workers' microsystems (family happiness and job burnout). Additionally, the study explores whether having sons influences these associations. Methods: The sample of 4,618 rural-to-urban migrant workers was obtained from the 2018 wave of the China Labor Force Dynamics Survey (CLDS). All the measures in the survey exhibited good reliability, including the Center for Epidemiological Research Depression Scale (CES-D), family happiness, job burnout, and social integration. The data were primarily analyzed using a structural equation model. Results: Social integration had a direct impact on depression among migrant workers. Additionally, it indirectly affected depression through the mediating roles of family happiness not job burnout. The moderating effect of having sons mainly occurred on the path from social integration to family happiness. Limitations: The cross-sectional design impeded the ability to draw causal inferences. Conclusion: This finding highlights the potential benefits of social integration and family happiness in promoting early prevention of depression among migrant workers. It indicates that the inclination toward having sons among migrant workers continues to impact their mental health.

The work engagement of foreign language teachers enhances both their performance and the quality of instruction. Recent studies have highlighted the pivotal roles of emotional intelligence, job burnout, and self-efficacy in fostering teachers' work engagement. Despite this, the complex interactions between these factors in the context of foreign language teaching remain underexplored. This study conducts a meta-analytic review to examine the connections among work engagement, emotional intelligence, burnout, and self-efficacy among foreign language educators. Utilizing a chain mediation model, it probes the mechanism through which emotional intelligence impacts work engagement, based on an analysis of 49 scholarly articles. Results from the meta-analysis robustly validate the hypothesized model. Specifically, emotional intelligence contributes to work engagement via four distinct routes: direct mediation through self-efficacy, direct mediation through job burnout, and chain mediation involving self-efficacy and job burnout. Of the evaluated factors, emotional intelligence had the most significant impact on enhancing work engagement. Implications of these findings may facilitate the training and ongoing professional development of foreign language teachers.

AIM: Many people see nursing as a high-pressure, high-risk profession. Therefore, job burnout among nursing staff has become an important topic of study and has received widespread attention worldwide. This research intended to evaluate the frequency of and variables related with work burnout among nurses in public hospitals in China. DESIGN: Using a multistage random sample procedure, a cross-sectional survey was carried out in the eastern, central and western areas of China. METHODS: The Maslach Inventory-Human Service Survey and demographic information made up the two sections of the questionnaire. Of the 5250 questionnaires sent, 4865 were deemed legitimate, yielding an effective response rate of 92.67%. A linear regression analysis was performed to investigate the variables linked to nursing work burnout. RESULTS: Among the 4865 nurses, women accounted for 97.4% of the survey respondents, most of whom were aged 26-35 years. Results showed that the total scores of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and reduced personal accomplishment (PA) were 20.02 ± 12.04, 4.78 ± 5.54 and 34.42 ± 10.32 respectively. 50.7% of subjects obtained high or moderated scores on EE, 32.8% of subjects obtained high or moderated scores on DP and 80.4% of subjects obtained low or moderated scores on PA. Age, department, position, post-establishment, work shift type in recent months, overtime times in recent months and night shift frequency in recent months were negatively correlated with EE, and child status, monthly income, working days per week and sleep quality in recent 1 month were positively correlated with it (F = 141.827, P < 0.01, R2 = 0.243). Age, gender, department, post-establishment, overtime hours in recent months and night shift frequency in recent months were negatively correlated with DP, and child status and sleep quality in the last 1 month were positively correlated with it (F = 78.794, p < 0.01, R2 = 0.115). Child status, years of nursing work and sleep quality in the last 1 month were negatively correlated with PA, whereas age, position, work shift type in recent months and night shift frequency in recent months were positively correlated with it (F = 67.981, p < 0.01, R2 = 0.089).

In today's dynamic organizational landscape, characterized by rapid technological advancements and evolving workplace dynamics, understanding the factors influencing employee well-being is paramount. This study investigates the interplay between ethical leadership, organizational climate, role overload, and job burnout in public healthcare organizations across northern Jordan. By focusing on ethical leadership, organizational climate, and role overload as determinants of job burnout, this research provides insights into strategies for enhancing employee well-being. Drawing on ethical leadership theory, social exchange theory, and the job demands-resources model, this study employs PLS-SEM to analyze data collected from 260 employees working in Jordanian government hospitals. The findings reveal negative associations between ethical leadership and job burnout, highlighting the importance of ethical leadership behaviors in mitigating employee burnout. Additionally, a positive organizational climate is associated with lower levels of burnout, underscoring the impact of the broader organizational context on employee well-being. The study also explores the mediating role of organizational climate and the moderating effect of role overload in the relationship between ethical leadership and job burnout, providing insights into the complex dynamics at play in healthcare organizations. These findings enrich our understanding of the factors influencing employee well-being in healthcare contexts and underscore the importance of fostering ethical leadership and supportive organizational climates to mitigate job burnout.
