BACKGRAUND: To determine the potential relationship between age-related macular degeneration and iris freckles. METHOD: In this case-control study, iris photographs of 300 eyes of 300 patients diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration and 300 eyes of 300 healthy volunteers were obtained with the help of a high-resolution mobile phone camera. The evaluated iris photographs were classified according to the Descriptive Iris Color Classification Scale. RESULTS: The average age of the AMD group is 73.05 ± 6.93, and the average age of the control group is 73.43 ± 5.72. (p = 0.124) While freckles were present in 200 (66.7%) of the patients in the AMD group, freckles were not observed in 100 patients (33.3%) of AMD group. While freckles were present in 142 (47.3%) of the patients in the control group, freckles were not observed in 158 of control group(52.7%). There was a significant difference in the presence of freckles between the two groups. (p < 0.001) The average number of freckles in the AMD group was 3.97 ± 3.07, and the number of freckles in the control group was 3.06 ± 2.55. (p = 0.001) CONCLUSION: We think that evaluation of iris details, especially the presence of iris freckles, should be used routinely in age-related macular degeneration screening. The risk of age-related macular degeneration can be predicted by evaluating iris details, which is an easy and inexpensive method.

Purpose: To share examination findings of the lens capsule which may act as an indicator for malpositioned intraocular lenses (IOL). Setting: Single large multi-specialty private practice, Houston, Texas, USA. Design: Focused, observational case series. Methods: A review of pre-operative images of malpositioned single-piece IOLs with at least one haptic in the ciliary sulcus was conducted. The review included five cases who were referred to a single large multi-specialty private practice from June 2023 to December 2024 for an evaluation of posterior capsular opacification (PCO) and potential Nd:YAG capsulotomy. Findings: A total of five eyes which previously had undergone cataract surgery and were referred for Nd:YAG capsulotomy for PCO were identified on slit lamp examination to have capsular waves, defined as a centripetal and circumferential striated pattern of PCO that results from a fused anterior and posterior capsule with at least part of the IOL anterior to the capsule. While one eye exhibited transillumination defects and pigment dispersion, the remainder of eyes did not. In some cases, the capsular wave was the only clue to IOL malpositioning due to a small pupil. These eyes had single-piece IOLs with at least one haptic in the sulcus and required subsequent IOL repositioning or exchange. Conclusion: If capsular waves are seen on slit lamp exam, a thorough inspection of IOL placement should be conducted, especially before treatment with Nd:YAG capsulotomy. Capsular waves result from anterior and posterior capsule contact with an anteriorly situated IOL. This finding is a potential indicator of at least part of an IOL positioned anterior to the anterior capsule.

Purpose: To study geographic patterns of supply and demand for uveal melanoma and other ocular oncology healthcare by ocular oncology physicians in the United States. Methods: Google search interest data was obtained through trends.google.com. The combined-state density of ocular oncology physicians was calculated by dividing the number of practicing ocular oncologists in each state and its surrounding states by the state population. Relative search volume (RSV) values were divided by ocular oncology physician density to calculate the Google relative demand index (gRDI) for each state. Medicare (mRDI) and IRIS® Registry (iRDI) relative demand indices were calculated using prevalence data obtained through the Vision and Eye Health Surveillance System (VEHSS). Data from the US Census Bureau and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) databases were also utilized to analyze associations with poverty rates, percent living in urban or rural areas, vision screening rates, and ocular neoplasm rates. Results: Alabama showed the highest RSV (100), while the lowest was reported in New Mexico (20). Vermont had the highest density of combined-state ocular oncology ophthalmologists (1.85 per 100,000 residents). New Mexico had the lowest RDI (0.013 gRDI, 0.015 mRDI, 0.018 iRDI) with 32 combined-state ocular oncologists and a population of 2,114,371. Ocular neoplasm prevalence rates ranged between 1.32% and 5.40% and significantly correlated with RSV. Single-state gRDI correlated with rural status and negatively correlated with urban areas (≥50,000 individuals). Single-state ophthalmologist density correlated positively with percent living in urban areas and vision screening rates, and negatively with rural status. Conclusion: This study uncovered significant heterogeneity in the geographical distribution of ocular oncology physicians and RDI throughout the United States, highlighting potential undersupply scenarios. This may guide efforts to increase ocular oncology physician and surgeon availability in areas of need.

In patients who have lost their eye due to one or many of the following events, such as surgery, trauma, tumors, or birth eye defects, ocular prostheses play a very vital role in the recovery of their eye appearance and social appearance. This case report highlights the successful fitting and fabrication of a custom-made ocular prosthesis in a patient with an eye defect. The manufacturing process of the prostheses involved careful evaluation and fabrication involving a series of steps to achieve a successful prosthesis. A customized prosthesis guarantees excellent esthetic matching, more comfort, and increased patient confidence, thereby a better quality of life.

YAG-laser interventions are associated with the risk of complications, including in the cornea. PURPOSE: This study evaluates the condition of the cornea after laser discission (LD) of secondary cataracts (SC) and laser iridectomy (LI) using corneal confocal microscopy (CCM). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Group 1 included patients with the diagnosis "Pseudophakia, secondary cataract", they underwent LD of SC. Patients of group 1 were divided into 2 subgroups depending on the initial state of the cornea: group 1A included patients with unaltered corneas; group 1B - with changes in the corneas. Group 2 included patients diagnosed with angle-closure glaucoma (ACG) or suspected ACG, they underwent LI. CCM was performed on the Heidelberg HRT-III system. Laser treatment was performed using the Nd:YAG-laser LPULSA SYL-9000, λ=1.064 µm. RESULTS: Immediately after treatment, subgroup 1A exhibited singular hyperreflective deposits and negligible endothelial cell loss (ECL). After 1 month, CMM findings revealed no changes in this subgroup. In subgroup 1B, a post-LD reduction in endothelial cell density led to increased polymegathism, decreased pleomorphism, heightened endothelial cell nucleus reflectivity, and moderate hyperreflective deposits after 1 month. In the second group, significant hyperreflective deposits of various sizes, increased nucleus reflectivity, and notable endothelial cell density reduction were observed immediately and 1 month after LI. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that the possibility of developing corneal complications after photo destructive laser interventions is to a certain extent related to the initial state of the cornea. The risk of developing corneal damage increases with decreasing distance between the cornea and the irradiated structure. An increase in the level of laser radiation energy and its total values also contributes to damage to the cornea, which is possible with dense secondary cataracts and thick irises.

PURPOSE: To determine if intravitreal injection of antibiotics alone versus early pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) plus injection of intravitreal antibiotics predicted better or worse visual outcomes for patients with endophthalmitis after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study PARTICIPANTS: Patients developing endophthalmitis after receiving an intravitreal anti-VEGF injection from the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS® Registry between 2016 and 2020. METHODS: Inclusion criteria were endophthalmitis diagnosis within 1 to 28 days after anti-VEGF injection and a recorded visual acuity (VA) at baseline, on the day of diagnosis, and post-treatment. Patients in the Injection Only group underwent intravitreal injection of antibiotics alone and in the Early Vitrectomy group received PPV with intravitreal antibiotics or intravitreal injection followed by PPV within 2 days of diagnosis. Patients were excluded if they had cataract surgery during the study, intravitreal steroids before endophthalmitis, or intermediate/posterior uveitis or cystoid macular edema. The study created a 1:1 matched cohort using Mahalanobis Distance Matching, accounting for the differences in VA at baseline and diagnosis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Post-treatment logMAR VA RESULTS: 1,044 patients diagnosed with post-injection endophthalmitis met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the unmatched cohort, there were 935 patients in the Injection Only and 109 in the Early Vitrectomy group. In 1:1 matched cohort 218 patients (109 in each group) were included; the median logMAR VAs were 0.32 [20/40-20/50] at baseline, 0.88 [∼20/150] at diagnosis, and 0.57 [20/70-20/80] post-treatment. There were no statistically significant differences in the visual outcomes between the two matched treatment groups (b = 0.05, p = 0.23); including the subgroup of patients with VA worse than 1.0 logMAR (b = 0.05, p = 0.452). CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in final VA outcomes between patients receiving Injection Only and those treated with Early Vitrectomy for post-injection endophthalmitis. The findings support the use of either treatment strategy.

Iris scariosa is a rhizomatous perennial whose taxonomy and distribution range still remain unclear. The results of our examination of literature, specimens, and wild plants have shown that I. glaucescens, described from Kazakhstan, and I. timofejewii, considered to be endemic to the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, are very closely related to I. scariosa. We have carried out molecular phylogenetic analyses for the first time to clarify the taxonomy of I. scariosa. For this, we sequenced six chloroplast DNA regions of an extended sampling that comprised the accepted species I. glaucescens and I. timofejewii, which has revealed their strong affinity to the accession of I. scariosa from the vicinity of Astrakhan, Russia. A thorough revision of the morphological characters has confirmed the lack of evident differences between I. scariosa and I. timofejewii. Thus, the analyses support a broad species circumscription of I. scariosa. We here reduce I. timofejewii, as well as I. curvifolia, considered to be endemic to Xinjiang, western China, to synonymy of I. scariosa. Color illustrations, updated nomenclature, and data on distribution of I. scariosa are provided. A lectotype for I. astrachanica and a neotype for I. timofejewii are designated here. Also, the phylogenetic relationships within I. subg. Iris are outlined, and an updated classification of the subgenus is proposed. We have recovered six major lineages within four major clades which we recognize as sections. Here, we propose two new nomenclatural combinations, a revised taxonomic treatment, and a new identification key to I. subg. Iris.

Iris taxa are sources of valuable essential oils obtained from aged rhizomes used by various industries, including pharmacy, cosmetic, perfume, and food industry, in which irones are the most important aroma components. In this study, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) obtained from dried rhizomes of three endemics from Croatia, Iris pseudopallida, I. illyrica, and I. adriatica, were studied. The VOCs were isolated by three different methods: headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) using divinylbenzene/carboxene/polydimethylsiloxane (DVB/CAR/PDMS) fiber or polydimethylsiloxane/divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB) fiber, and hydrodistillation (HD). The samples were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In five out of six samples, the main compounds detected by HS-SPME were perilla aldehyde, butan-2,3-diol, acetic acid, 2-phenylethanol, benzyl alcohol, hexanal, and nonanal, while 6-methylhept-5-en-2-one, trans-caryophyllene, and ethanol were common for all studied samples. The former VOCs were absent from the oldest, irone-rich I. pseudopallida sample, mainly characterized by cis-α-irone (43.74-45.76%). When using HD, its content was reduced (24.70%), while docosane prevailed (45.79%). HD yielded predominantly fatty acids, including myristic, common for all studied taxa (4.20-97.01%), and linoleic (40.69%) and palmitic (35.48%) as the major VOCs of I. adriatica EO. The performed GC-MS analyses of EOs, in combination with HS-SPME/GC-MS, proved to be useful for gaining a better insight into Iris VOCs.

Aim: To explore the perspectives of patients/service users receiving specialist domestic violence and abuse (DVA) support from the Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS) service during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Design: A qualitative approach was used to conduct this study. Methods: Thematic analysis of data collected via in-depth individual interviews with 11 patients/service users who received DVA support following their disclosure of abuse to a health-care professional in general practice (GP) and subsequent referral to the IRIS service. Findings: Six themes were identified-experience of DVA during COVID-19; awareness of the IRIS service; pathway to care; accessibility, safety, and remote consultations; adequacy of telephone support; and impact of IRIS support. Participants reported feeling supported by the GP team and the DVA specialists from the IRIS service. Conclusion: The pandemic had a significant impact on health care and specialist DVA service providers. The swift shift to remote consultations proved to be an effective way to identify DVA, determine the support needs of those experiencing DVA from their own perspective, and make appropriate referrals for specialist support. Further research is needed to understand the views of health-care professionals and those working in the IRIS service to explore factors affecting their ability to provide remote services. The study highlighted the need for health-care professionals other than doctors (including nurses, midwives, and others) to build knowledge, confidence, and competence in asking about DVA.

Iris domestica is a widely used ornamental garden and important medicinal plant. Our previous studies have shown that it exhibits significant uptake and translocation capacity under Cd stress compared to other Iris species. Gene expression is studied using RT-qPCR; however, there are no reference genes have been found for I. domestica under Cd stress. In this investigation, thirteen possible reference genes from previous studies and our transcriptome were screened using RT-qPCR in the leaves and roots of Cd-stressed plants. The findings revealed that UBC9 and ACT were the best reference genes for roots with and without Cd stress, whereas YLS8 and ACT7 were the best reference genes for leaves. Among the different tissues without Cd stress, UBC9 and UBC28 exhibited the best results, whereas PP2C06 and UBC9 exhibited the best results under Cd stress. The most stable reference genes in the leaves and roots were UBC9 and UBC28, respectively, under and without Cd stress, and GADPH was the most unstable. Finally, three metal ion response genes, NRAMP2, YSL9 and CYP81Q32 were detected using RT-qPCR and compared with the transcriptome data to further confirm the reliability of the chosen genes. This study identified suitable reference genes for I. domestica under Cd-stress conditions.

Detecting and screening clouds is the first step in most optical remote sensing analyses. Cloud formation is diverse, presenting many shapes, thicknesses, and altitudes. This variety poses a significant challenge to the development of effective cloud detection algorithms, as most datasets lack an unbiased representation. To address this issue, we have built CloudSEN12+, a significant expansion of the CloudSEN12 dataset. This new dataset doubles the expert-labeled annotations, making it the largest cloud and cloud shadow detection dataset for Sentinel-2 imagery up to date. We have carefully reviewed and refined our previous annotations to ensure maximum trustworthiness. We expect CloudSEN12+ will be a valuable resource for the cloud detection research community.

PURPOSE: Uveal melanoma (UM) is a rare disease, with the highest incidence in people with a fair skin and light eyes. Eye colour is largely genetically determined and defined by a set of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). We set out to determine whether we could identify a SNP that is related to prognosis. DESIGN: We sequenced DNA from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of 392 patients with UM and obtained the genotype of six common eye colour-related SNPs. Clinical and histopathologic tumour characteristics, tumour chromosome status, and patient survival were compared among patients with different genotypes. SUBJECTS: 392 patients who underwent enucleation for UM at the Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, The Netherlands. METHODS: We isolated DNA from peripheral blood leukocytes of 392 patients with UM and performed sequencing, using six eye colour SNPs from the HIrisPlex-S assay. The genotypes extracted from the sequencing data were uploaded onto the Hirisplex webtool (https://hirisplex.erasmusmc.nl/) for eye colour prediction. We tested the association of eye colour SNPs with tumour characteristics and chromosome aberrations using Pearson's chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U test and survival with Kaplan-Meier curves with log-rank test and Cox regression. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: UM-related survival. RESULTS: Of the total cohort of 392 patients with analysable genotype data, 307 (78%) were assigned to have blue eyes, 74 (19%) brown eyes and 11 (3%) could not be assigned to either blue or brown. Patients with a genetically-blue eye colour had a worse survival (p = 0.04). This was related to one genotype: patients with the G/G genotype of rs12913832 (HERC2) which codes for blue eye colour had a worse prognosis (p = 0.017), which was related to more often having high-risk tumours (monosomy of chromosome 3, p = 0.04) than patients with an A/G or A/A genotype. CONCLUSION: The G/G genotype of rs12913832 (HERC2), which is related to blue eye colour, is not only a genetic factor related to the risk to develop a UM, but is also linked to a worse prognosis, due to an association with a higher risk of developing a high-risk UM (carrying monosomy of chromosome 3).

Iris recognition, renowned for its exceptional precision, has been extensively utilized across diverse industries. However, the presence of noise and blur frequently compromises the quality of iris images, thereby adversely affecting recognition accuracy. In this research, we have refined the traditional Wiener filter image restoration technique by integrating it with a gradient descent strategy, specifically employing the Barzilai-Borwein (BB) step size selection. This innovative approach is designed to enhance both the precision and resilience of iris recognition systems. The BB gradient method is adept at optimizing the parameters of the Wiener filter by introducing simulated blurring and noise conditions to the iris images. Through this process, it is capable of restoring images that have been degraded by blur and noise, leading to a significant improvement in the clarity of the restored images and, consequently, a notable elevation in recognition performance. The results of our experiments have demonstrated that this advanced method surpasses conventional filtering techniques in terms of both subjective visual quality assessments and objective peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) evaluations.

Biometric systems have gained attention as a more secure alternative to traditional authentication methods. However, these systems are not without their technical limitations. This paper presents a hybrid approach that combines edge detection and segmentation techniques to enhance the security of cloud systems. The proposed method uses iris recognition as a biometric paradigm, taking advantage of the iris' unique patterns. We performed feature extraction and classification using hamming distance (HD) and convolutional neural networks (CNN). We validated the experimental findings using various datasets, such as MMU, IITD, and CASIA Iris Interval V4. We compared the proposed method's results to previous research, demonstrating recognition rates of 99.50 % on MMU using CNN, 97.18 % on IITD using CNN, and 95.07 % on CASIA using HD. These results indicate that the proposed method outperforms other classifiers used in previous research, showcasing its effectiveness in improving cloud security services.

Background: Multiple pigmented epithelial cysts at the edge of pupils, that is, iris flocculi, in both eyes, are rare ocular diseases. It has been demonstrated that this disease can be attributed to mutations in the smooth muscle α-actin 2 (ACTA2) gene, which mainly affects the function of smooth muscle cells (SMCs). SMCs are components of the iris, aorta, and several other systemic organs. In addition, iris flocculi are strongly correlated with familial thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection (TAAD), which is caused by the mutation of amino acid 149 in the ACTA2 gene. Case description: A 6-month-old Chinese boy was found to have iris flocculi during ocular fundus screening for premature infants. His mother, a 30-year-old Chinese woman with a history of aortic dissection, underwent an ophthalmic examination and was found to have iris flocculi. Whole exome sequencing revealed a heterozygous c.445C > T (p. Arg149Cys) mutation in ACTA2 in both the boy and his mother. After his family history was traced, the boy's grandfather was diagnosed with similar iris flocculi. Due to the absence of any ocular complications caused by iris flocculi in the cases, no special treatment was given, and regular follow-up was recommended. Conclusion: We reported one case of familial iris flocculi caused by a heterozygous missense mutation in ACTA2 (p. Arg149Cys) and presented multimodal optical images of both the iris and fundus in three consecutive generations. This case report enriched the clinical features of retinal vasculature and macula associated with the mutation in the amino acid 149 of the ACTA2 gene.

PURPOSE: Evaluate safety and efficacy of 0.75% phentolamine ophthalmic solution (POS), an alpha-1 antagonist, in reversal of pharmacologically induced mydriasis. DESIGN: Two Phase 3, multicenter, placebo-controlled, randomized, double-masked clinical trials in healthy subjects. SUBJECTS: 553 healthy 12 to 80 year old subjects were randomized 1:1 (MIRA-2) and 2:1 (MIRA-3) to receive either POS or placebo eye drops OU. METHODS: Subjects received POS or placebo administered 1 hour after mydriasis, induced by instillation of either 2.5% phenylephrine, 1% tropicamide, or Paremyd (1% hydroxyamphetamine / 0.25% tropicamide). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary endpoint was percent of subjects returning to ≤0.2 mm greater than baseline pupil diameter in study eye at 90 minutes after POS administration. Safety measures included treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and tolerability measures, including conjunctival hyperemia. RESULTS: In MIRA-2, 185 subjects were randomized to treatment with placebo (94) or POS (91). In MIRA-3, 368 subjects were randomized to treatment with placebo (124) or POS (244). A statistically significant greater percentage of subjects treated with POS had study eyes that showed reversal of mydriasis at 90 minutes (primary endpoint) compared with the placebo treatment (48.9% vs 6.6% for MIRA-2; p<0.0001 and 58% VS 6% for MIRA-3; p<0.0001) and as early as 60 minutes (24.5% vs 5.5% for MIRA-2; p<0.0003 and 42% VS 2% for MIRA-3; p<0.0001). Between 28 to 34% of placebo-treated subjects had not returned to baseline PD at 24 hours following pharmacological dilation compared to 8 to 11% treated with POS (p<0.0001). CONCLUSION: POS treatment had a rapid onset in reducing PD within 60- to 90-minutes, with a statistically significant time savings of 3 to 4 hours to return to baseline PD compared to placebo. One or 2 drops of POS rapidly reversed mydriasis in all subjects regardless of mydriatic agent or iris color. More subjects receiving POS reported a perceived benefit in the resolution of visual symptoms caused by pharmacologically induced mydriasis compared to placebo, with statistically significant differences noted as early as 1 hour. The safety profile was favorable, with the most common adverse effects being mild transient conjunctival hyperemia (11.2%), instillation site discomfort (10.9%), and dysgeusia (3.6%).

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections classically present as a vesicular eruption on an erythematous base; however, viral infections may present much differently in the setting of immune deficiency. Herpes vegetans is an atypical presentation of HSV that occurs in immunocompromised patients, typically those with human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Herpes vegetans is characterized by hyperkeratotic, exophytic, and, sometimes, ulcerated nodules, often with a chronic and persistent course. Herein, we present an interesting example of biopsy-confirmed anogenital herpes vegetans in a 61-year-old male with AIDS in the setting of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome, an association that is less frequently described. This case serves as an important reminder to consider atypical presentations of infectious disease when examining immunocompromised patients, as prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential in this population.

OBJECTIVE: Progressive outer retinal necrosis (PORN) is an alphaherpesvirus-caused panuveitis with devastating consequences for the eye. Our study aims to describe new findings in the clinical spectrum and propose a mechanism for the pathogenesis of PORN. METHODS: Observational, consecutive case series. Seven eyes from five patients diagnosed with PORN were enrolled. Detailed case histories, ocular examination findings and multimodal images of retina were collected. Optic nerve and brain imaging were obtained by MRI. RESULTS: All eyes were confirmed human alphaherpesviruses positive in ocular fluid by qPCR. Optic nerve oedema was observed on MRI in all eyes. A relative afferent pupillary defect was recorded in the affected eye for the unilateral cases. Two patients with unilateral involvement had a history of viral encephalitis and focal encephalomalacia found in the temporal lobe on brain MRI. The affected eyes were characterised by sensory retinal necrosis sparing retinal pigment epithelium, starting at the end of the retinal nerve fibre (horizontal raphe or peripheral area of the retina) and progressing rapidly along the nerve fibre. The wall of the retinal artery and vein was destroyed, resulting in blood flow interruption on fluorescein angiography and retinal haemorrhages along the large vessels. CONCLUSIONS: Combination the neurotropic characteristics of alphaherpesviruses and the signs of PORN, we hypothesised that the reactivated PORN virus originated from the lateral geniculate nucleus, then propagated along the optic nerve and was released at the terminals, causing necrosis of the entire sensory retina rather than just affecting the outer segment.

This retrospective cohort study describes the real-world incidence and maintenance of clinically meaningful intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction ("response") following stand-alone phacoemulsification for 667,987 eyes with suspected or confirmed glaucoma in the IRIS Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) from 1/1/2013-9/30/2019. Intraocular pressure responders had ≥ 20% IOP reduction in daily mean IOP from baseline on two consecutive postoperative visits. We declared failure if a responder no longer maintained ≥ 20% IOP reduction. The estimated IOP responder rate was 41.3% by Kaplan-Meier analysis. Multivariate analysis demonstrated relationships between IOP response and baseline IOP (hazard ratio (HR) (95% confidence interval)) 1.48 (1.48-1.49), per 3 mmHg, P < 0.0001), age (HR 1.14 (1.13-1.14), per 10 years, P < 0.0001), male sex (HR 1.13 (1.12-1.15), P < 0.0001), prostaglandin analogue (HR 0.88 (0.87-0.90), P < 0.0001), and Rho-kinase inhibitor use (HR 1.50 (1.32-1.70), P = 0.01). Fifty percent of IOP responders failed at a median time of 14.3 months. Multivariate analysis demonstrated relationships between failure and baseline IOP (HR 0.75 (0.75-0.76), per 3 mmHg, P < 0.0001), nitric oxide donating prostaglandin (HR 1.78 (1.46-2.18), P < 0.0001) and Rho-kinase inhibitor use (HR 1.73 (1.43-2.09), P < 0.0001). Clinicians may counsel glaucoma patients with risk factors on whether to anticipate an IOP response and its expected duration after stand-alone phacoemulsification.
