RESUMEN

The present study considers the mathematical modelling of unsteady non-Newtonian hydro-magnetic nano-hemodynamics through a rigid cylindrical artery featuring two different stenoses (composite and irregular). The Ostwald-De Waele power-law fluid model is adopted to simulate the non-Newtonian characteristics of blood. Inspired by drug delivery applications for cardiovascular treatments, blood is considered doped with a homogenous suspension of biocompatible nanoparticles. The arterial vessel exhibits the permeability effect (lateral influx/efflux), and an external magnetic field is also applied in the radial direction to the flow. A combination of the Buongiorno and Tiwari-Das nanoscale models is adopted. The strongly nonlinear nature of the governing equations requires a robust numerical method, and therefore the finite difference technique is deployed to solve the resulting equations. Validation of solutions for the pure blood case (absence of nanoparticles) is included. Comprehensive solutions are presented for shear-thickening (n = 1.5) and shear-thinning (n = 0.5) blood flow for the effects of crucial nanoscale thermophysical, solutal parameters, and hydrodynamic parameters. Comparison of profiles (velocity, temperature, wall shear stress, and flow rate) is also made for composite and irregular stenosis. Colour visualization of streamline plots is included for pure blood and nano mediated blood both with and without applied magnetic field. The inclusion of nanoparticles (Cu/blood) within blood increases the axial velocity of blood. By applying external magnetic field in the radial direction, axial velocity is significantly damped whereas much less dramatic alterations are computed in blood temperature and concentration profiles. The simulations are relevant to the diffusion of nano-drugs in magnetic targeted treatment of stenosed arterial diseases.

RESUMEN

This paper presents a new universal programmable portable measuring device (PMD) as a complete, accurate, and efficient solution for monitoring and technical diagnostics of industrial fluid power systems. PMD has programmable functions designed for recording, processing, and graphical visualization of measurement results at the test stand or the place of operation of fluid power systems. PMD has a built-in WiFi communication module for transferring measurement data via Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technology for online remote monitoring of fluid power systems. PMD can be programmed for a variety of measuring tasks in servicing, repairing, diagnosing, and monitoring fluid power systems. For this purpose, the fluid dynamic quantity, mechanical quantity, and electrical quantity can be measured. The adjustment of the PMD to the indirect measurement of leakage flow rate in a compressed air system (CAS) is presented in detail. Measuring instruments and PMDs were connected to a branch of the pipeline. The tests used the measurement system to estimate the leakage flow rate through air small nozzles, as well as other CAS indicators.

Reducing carbon emissions is an urgent problem around the world while facing the energy and environmental crises. Whatever progress has been made in renewable energy research, efforts made to energy-saving technology is always necessary. The energy consumption from fluid power systems of industrial processes is considerable, especially for pneumatic systems. A novel isothermal compression method was proposed to lower the energy consumption of compressors. A porous medium was introduced to compose an isothermal piston. The porous medium was located beneath a conventional piston, and gradually immerged into the liquid during compression. The compression heat was absorbed by the porous medium, and finally conducted with the liquid at the chamber bottom. The heat transfer can be significantly enhanced due to the large surface area of the porous medium. As the liquid has a large heat capacity, the liquid temperature can maintain constant through circulation outside. This create near-isothermal compression, which minimizes energy loss in the form of heat, which cannot be recovered. There will be mass loss of the air due to dissolution and leakage. Therefore, the dissolution and leakage amount of gas are compensated for in this method. Gas is dissolved into liquid with the pressure increasing, which leads to mass loss of the gas. With a pressure ratio of 4:1 and a rotational speed of 100 rpm, the isothermal piston decreased the energy consumption by 45% over the conventional reciprocation piston. This gain was accomplished by increasing the heat transfer during the gas compression by increasing the surface area to volume ratio in the compression chamber. Frictional forces between the porous medium and liquid was presented. Work to overcome the frictional forces is negligible (0.21% of the total compression work) under the current operating condition.

Colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure to detect pre-cancerous polyps and tumours in the colon, and is performed by inserting a long tube equipped with a camera and biopsy tools. Despite the medical benefits, patients undergoing this procedure often complain about the associated pain and discomfort. This discomfort is mostly due to the rough handling of the tube and the creation of loops during the insertion. The overall goal of this work is to minimise the invasiveness of traditional colonoscopy. In pursuit of this goal, this work presents the development of a semi-autonomous colonoscopic robot with minimally invasive locomotion. The proposed robotic approach allows physicians to concentrate mainly on the diagnosis rather than the mechanics of the procedure. In this paper, an innovative locomotion approach for robotic colonoscopy is addressed. Our locomotion approach takes advantage of longitudinal expansion of a latex tube to propel the robot's tip along the colon. This soft and compliant propulsion mechanism, in contrast to minimally invasive mechanisms used in, for example, inchworm-like robots, has shown promising potential. In the preliminary ex vivo experiments, the robot successfully advanced 1.5 metres inside an excised curvilinear porcine colon with average speed of 28 mm/s, and was capable of traversing bends up to 150 degrees. The robot creates less than 6 N of normal force at its tip when it is pressurised with 90 kPa. This maximum force generates pressure of 44.17 mmHg at the tip, which is significantly lower than safe intraluminal human colonic pressure of 80 mmHg. The robot design inherently prevents loop formation in the colon, which is recognised as the main cause of post procedural pain in patients. Overall, the robot has shown great promise in an ex vivo experimental setup. The design of an autonomous control system and in vivo experiments are left as future work.
