RESUMEN

This study investigates the relationship between openness and pollutant emission intensity across 286 Chinese cities from 1990 to 2019, aiming to evaluate the potential environmental benefits of open economy strategies. The findings indicate that enhanced urban openness significantly lowers pollutant emission intensity. To ensure the robustness of our findings, we make an innovative attempt to employ high-speed rail connection and motorway density as instrumental variables to address potential endogeneity issues, corroborating the reliability of the results through various robustness tests. Moreover, we also find the heterogeneous effects of urban openness on pollution emissions, highlighting the moderating influences of trade complexity, urbanization level, and environmental regulatory intensity. Lastly, the study elucidates the mechanisms through which urban openness diminishes pollution emissions, namely fostering green innovation capacity and enhancing public environmental awareness. This research makes theoretical contributions on understanding the nexus between open economies and environmental protection while offering practical insights to inform governmental environmental policy formulation.

RESUMEN

The integration of landsenses ecology encompasses both the ecological and perceptual effects on the ecological environment. Although the theoretical framework has gradually matured, challenges persist, including a lack of research strength, incomplete evaluation systems, and ambiguous disciplinary boundaries. Therefore, a systematic review of landsense research is necessary to analyze its characteristics and explore future research trends to ensure that landscape ecology will flourish. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 37 Chinese articles from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and 46 English articles from Web of Science (WOS). As an emerging field in ecology, landsenses has grown in recent years. However, interconnectedness among the research teams is weak. The CNKI literature tends to be concentrated, with 70.27 % of the articles appearing in the journal Acta Ecologica Sinica. Researchers are predominantly affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with fewer contributions from other institutions and universities. Future directions for landsenses ecology are outlined, including (1) enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration with emerging technologies, such as VR and AI, (2) refining quantifiable landsense metrics and evaluation systems, and (3) establishing a normal model and criteria for landsense creation services. By discussing the disciplinary boundaries and application of landsenses ecology, this study contributes a theoretical reference value for its development. This study proposes the concepts and associated contents of landsenses ecology and mixed marching data and explains the role of the meliorization model and Internet of Things (IoT) in landsenses ecology-based land-use planning, construction, and management. Utilizing the results of bibliometric research, this study proposes recommendations for the future application and theoretical development of landsenses ecology. These suggestions aim to bolster landsenses ecology application practices and theoretical foundations, enabling a more significant contribution to ecosystem services and facilitating sustainable development strategies.

RESUMEN

This study examines the perceptions and behaviours related to waste management (WM) among residents of the Kassena Nankana East Municipality in Ghana. A mixed-method approach was used to garner data from 394 household respondents, and the data was analysed using SPSS software. The findings reveal a weak correlation between educational attainment and effective waste management practices and a mildly positive correlation between waste awareness and the effectiveness of policies and legislation. Notably, a significant proportion of respondents preferred open burning (42.1 %) and dumping (18.8 %) as disposal methods, indicating critical areas for intervention. The study introduces a novel comprehensive analysis by integrating attitude formation, collective action, and institutional and rational choice theories to understand WM behaviours. This theoretical integration significantly contributes to the field, providing a heterogeneous understanding of the factors influencing WM practices. Furthermore, the research identifies key gaps in WM infrastructure and public engagement, offering innovative recommendations to address these challenges. This study's significant outputs include identifying specific community behaviours towards waste disposal and evaluating the effectiveness of existing WM policies. These findings provide actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders to develop targeted interventions that promote sustainable WM practices. The study's contributions and recommendations are crucial for advancing environmental sustainability efforts in similar contexts, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The significant challenges of the twenty-first century revolve around environmental issues. Knowing individuals' environmental attitudes and what they see as environmental problems is crucial to mobilizing them to action. Nurses hold a significant responsibility in addressing and combating environmental challenges. RESEARCH AIM: This study had two objectives: understanding how nursing students classify environmental issues and examining the effects of gender, economic status, school district, family environmental awareness, and perception of global responsibility on their conceptualization of environmental issues. DESIGN: A descriptive cross-sectional study using a questionnaire. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: The sample consisted of 1466 nursing students from four faculties of two public universities in Turkiye. The study was conducted between January and April 2023. METHODS: Data were collected using a form that included 19 issues ranging from ecological problems to social problems related to the environment, as well as the Global Social Responsibility Scale (GSRS). The data were analyzed using explanatory factor analysis, multiple regression, and mediator analysis. RESULTS: Participants classified the environmental issues as eco-social-oriented and human-oriented. First-year students (B = -0.201), male students (B = -0.263), those studying in rural schools (B = -0.123), and those who rarely discuss environmental issues in the family (B = -0.197) describe the problems in the eco-social oriented dimension as less "environmental." The increase in the action-oriented responsibility (B = 0.014) and ecological responsibility (B = 0.077) scores of The Global Social Responsibility Scale leads to an increase in recognizing the problems in this area as environmental issues. Similarly, first-year students (B = -0.340), male students (B = -0.293), and those who rarely discussed environmental issues in the family (B = -0.243) led to a decrease in recognizing problems as environmental in the human-oriented issues dimension. In contrast, poor socioeconomic perception (B = 0.245), negative perception of the future (B = 0.145), and increased action-oriented responsibility (B = 0.024) and ecological responsibility (B = 0.042) led to an increase in recognition of human-oriented issues. The increase in the national responsibility score decreased the score of environmental assessment of the problems in this area (B = -0.017). In addition, the perception of global responsibility partially mediates between students' sociodemographic characteristics and environmental issues recognition scores in both sub-dimensions. CONCLUSION: This study presents results that point to individual differences among nursing students in addressing environmental issues, reveal the impact of family on these differences, and finally show the importance of curricula to increase students' global social responsibility during their education.

RESUMEN

i) This study examines the determinants of environmental quality. It is not possible to fully analyze the complex network that emerges from the set of interactions of these determinants, both with each other and with environmental security. Indeed, a number of variables and relationships hidden in the background of the puzzle such as 'game theoretical interactions between economies on energy security', characterize this network. However, this study, which includes energy security and environmental quality simultaneously, may open the door to revealing the key patterns of the current network. ii) This study, which investigates the network between environmental problems and energy security, provides empirical evidence that these two variables may well evolve by positively affecting each other under some conditions. iii) Using the current and sophisticated econometric methods such as CDw + based on Juodis and Reese (2022) test and CS-ARDL Model, over a panel of top 20 energy-using countries in the period 1980-2018, the empirical analysis of the article shows that an increase in energy security risk positively affects environmental quality in aggregate by motivating increased energy efficiency, triggering environmental awareness and regulations, and stimulating research and development activities for clean energy etc. Technologies. Therefore, this study concludes that potential policies and reforms, including reducing fossil fuel consumption, increasing energy efficiency in distribution and consumption, encouraging investments in clean energy are of key importance in making energy security sustainable in the long term by increasing environmental quality.

RESUMEN

As global warming's impact on humanity surpasses initial predictions, numerous countries confront heightened risks associated with escalating urban carbon footprints. Concurrently, digital finance has flourished, propelled by advancements in digital technology. This convergence underscores the urgency of exploring digital finance's role in mitigating urban carbon footprint pressures. This study analyzes data spanning 277 Chinese cities from 2011 to 2020, yielding several key findings: Firstly, we developed a dataset detailing the carbon footprint pressures in these cities, revealing that variations in these pressures predominantly correlate with economic growth. Secondly, our analysis indicates that digital finance has a significant impact on reducing urban carbon footprint pressures, through mechanisms such as reducing the number of physical bank branches and enhancing residents' environmental awareness. Thirdly, the study identifies that the efficacy of digital finance in reducing carbon footprint pressures varies according to factors like sunshine duration and geographic location. The insights from this research aim to contribute substantively to strategies for sustainable urban development.

RESUMEN

The emergence of the digital economy has accelerated digital transformation, and digitalization has shown new potential and solutions to increasingly severe environmental challenges. Based on the resource-based view, dynamic capability view, synergy effect and upper echelons theory, the connotation and measurement dimensions of digital capability and green supply chain collaboration are defined and improved. Then, a theoretical model of "digital capability-green supply chain collaboration-green innovation performance" is constructed. The influence mechanism and transmission process of digital capability on green innovation performance from the perspective of green supply chain collaboration is discussed. Meanwhile, the boundary condition of the influence of digital capability on green innovation performance in the view of top management's environmental awareness is explored. Finally, an empirical test is conducted based on the Chinese manufacturing corporates. The results indicate that green innovation performance is significantly and favorably impacted by digital capability, green supply chain collaboration plays a partial mediating role between digital capability and green innovation performance, and top management's environmental awareness can positively moderate the effect of digital capability on green innovation performance. This study offers valuable theoretical and practical enlightenments for manufacturing companies to foster the growth of green innovation through digital capability more effectively.

RESUMEN

This study applied an extended model of the theory of planed behavior (TPB) to compare the differences in waste separation behavior between children (ages 9 to 12, N = 339) and adults (ages 18 to 66, N = 379). We examined the relations among waste separation attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, knowledge, awareness, intention, and behavior. The results showed waste separation knowledge of children was less than that of adults. Structure equation model results also revealed robust differences between children and adults. For adults, TPB variables (attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control) and knowledge are significantly positively related to their waste separation intention. Meanwhile, perceived behavioral control and intention are positively related to adults' behavior. However, for children, only perceived behavioral control and awareness are positively related to intention, and perceived behavioral control is positively related to behavior. Moreover, the predictive power of the extended TPB model on children's waste separation intention and behavior are lower than those of adults. The different results may be due to children's immature cognitive abilities. This study enhanced the understanding of the different waste separation behavior determinants between children and adults. The findings are useful for developing tailored policies and promoting children's waste separation behavior.

RESUMEN

Citizen science projects are expanding globally, with the African continent, particularly Nigeria, registering significant growth. Here, we document and analyse novel operations of the Nigerian Bird Atlas Project (NIBAP), 2015-2022. This project has employed the use of ornithologists, mainly trained at the A. P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI) located in Jos, Nigeria, and its 28 bird clubs established across Nigeria to enlist 827 bird enthusiasts that contribute regular and near real-time data about bird distribution and relative abundance in the country. Interestingly, NiBAP has recorded about 75% of the bird species known from Nigeria in only about 50% of Nigeria's total surface area, including 39 nationally threatened species. The Common Bulbul Pycnonotus barbatus, Laughing Dove Spilopelia senegalensis, and Grey-backed Camaroptera Camaroptera brevicaudata were the most commonly recorded species, while Amurum Forest Reserve, Rennajj Fish Farm, and Obudu Cattle Ranch were the most surveyed sites during the period. Thus, our approach reveals how to increase involvement of nature enthusiasts, ornithologists, and a regional research institute to build local capacity and contribute rich information necessary to alleviate the lack of distributional data about Afrotropical avifauna. We strongly recommend our approach to boost other citizen science projects across Africa and beyond to address the huge lack of biodiversity data, create public awareness, and foster conservation education.

RESUMEN

As the role of human capital in enhancing corporate value becomes increasingly prominent in the new economic era, employee satisfaction has garnered widespread attention in organizational behavior theory and business practices. However, constrained by the traditional governance model of "shareholder primacy", which tends to view employees instrumentally, adverse effects on employee satisfaction and organizational identification persist. Currently, corporate ESG behaviors are flourishing in China, bringing profound and extensive transformations to economic and social sustainability. Yet, the research on whether and how corporate ESG behaviors improve employee satisfaction remains unclear. This study, based on data from the "China's 100 Best Employers Award" and employing regression analysis on panel data from listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges, reveals that corporate ESG behaviors have the potential to enhance employee satisfaction. Transparency in corporate environmental information and internal control mechanisms emerge as the primary means through which corporate ESG behaviors elevate employee satisfaction. Furthermore, heightened environmental awareness among executives and higher educational qualifications among employees strengthen the relationship between corporate ESG behaviors and employee satisfaction.

RESUMEN

The evolution of the hotel industry's corporate environmental performance cannot be realized without employees acting in an environmentally friendly manner, such as low carbon behaviour. However, a thorough analysis of the factors influencing employees' low-carbon behaviour and hotels' corporate environmental performance has not yet been done. To overcome this literature gap and envision the social identity theory, this study evaluated how employees' green self-efficacy, environmental awareness, and perceived corporate environmental responsibility facilitate staff low carbon behaviour. Also, the study explored the moderation role of employees' moral reflectiveness. Through a purposive sampling technique, data was collected from 455 employees in the hotel industry in South Africa. The partial least squares structural equation model method examined the proposed hypothesis. The empirical findings revealed that: (1) employees' green self-efficacy, environmental awareness, and perceived corporate environmental responsibility positively influence their low carbon behaviour. (2) Employees' low carbon behaviour directly and positively affected hotels' corporate environmental performance. (3) The outcome supported the moderation effect of employees' moral reflectiveness on the linkage between green self-efficacy and low-carbon behaviour. The practical and theoretical implications are discussed. The limitations and areas of future research are further outlined.

RESUMEN

In light of the growing adoption of green products in emerging markets, there's a need to delve deeper into the green purchase behavior GPB of millennials in this context. Using the theory of planned behavior as a foundation, this study aims to improve clarity by developing and testing a theoretical model that establishes the effect of various factors on millennials' GPB. Motivated by this need and recognizing the importance of justifying the theoretical gap, a survey was conducted with 1094 students from the School of Business at King Faisal University, and data were analyzed using SmartPLS-3.3.2 The results reveal that green behavioral control, green environmental awareness, and green product value have positive and significant effects on GPB. In contrast, green product trust, green price sensitivity, and green perceived quality have no significant effect on GPB. The results highlight the significance of these factors in shaping millennials' GPB, providing valuable insights for researchers, marketers, and policymakers. In the future, a cross-sectional study should be conducted using an extensive approach to increase this study's generalizability. This study has theoretical, managerial, and policy implications for the promotion of green products.

RESUMEN

The environment is a major issue for both society and industry. Stakeholder demands, environmental ethics and environmental awareness may all have a substantial impact on a company's environmental performance. In this research, we investigate the impact of stakeholders' pressures, environmental ethics, and environmental awareness on environmental performance, which is mediated through the concept of green innovation. A survey questionnaire is used in the study to gather information from 410 managers working in different Chinese manufacturing firms. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to assess the data and test the assumptions that have been put forward. According to the study's results, stakeholders' pressures in terms of regulatory pressures, customer pressures, and competitor pressures; environmental ethics, and environmental awareness all had a positive effect on both green product innovation and green process innovation, which in turn had a favorable impact on environmental performance. Moreover, both green product and process innovation partially mediated the link between stakeholders' pressures, environmental ethics, and environmental performance except in the case of environmental awareness. These findings provide light on the significance of stakeholder demands, environmental ethics, and environmental awareness in encouraging green innovation and increasing environmental performance.

RESUMEN

The present research aims to determine whether environmental awareness, green self-identity, and subjective norms influence the attitudes of consumers who identify with environmental issues and have green purchasing intentions for organic products. The research was quantitative, correlational in scope, and cross-sectional in design. It was applied to 710 Peruvian millennials. A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was applied, which was quantified through a five-point Likert scale. The results were processed through an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Statistical analyses were developed using SPSS 24 and AMOS 24. The study identified that the personal variables influencing the environmental attitudes of millennials who intend to buy green organic products are green self-identity and subjective norms. While environmental awareness does not influence environmental attitudes, it does influence the green self-identity of Peruvian millennials. This study is one of the first to identify the personal variables influencing the environmental attitudes of Peruvian millennials who intend to buy green organic products.

RESUMEN

This study examined the impact of green advertising and eco-labels on the attitudes and environmental awareness of millennials purchasing eco-friendly products in shopping centers across Ecuador. The research utilized a quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional methodology with 430 millennials participating. A 20-item survey was administered face-to-face at shopping centers in Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador. The validity of the research model was established through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), employing SPSS 20 and AMOS 24 for statistical evaluations. Findings reveal that green advertising significantly shapes environmental attitudes (ß: 0.245) and awareness (ß: 0.110), as well as directly influences the purchasing behavior (ß: 0.154) towards green products. While eco-labels do not exert a direct effect on purchasing behavior (ß: 0.128), they significantly inform attitudes (ß: 0.406) and ecological awareness (ß: 0.277) of millennials who purchase organic products. This paper is among the pioneering research to delineate the correlation between green advertising elements and the purchasing patterns of green products among millennials in a developing nation. It concludes that marketing strategies centered on green advertising and eco-labels do affect millennials' attitudes and environmental consciousness, but only advertising has a direct impact on purchasing behaviors, contrary to eco-labels. The research bears social significance as it affirms that millennials are attentive to environmental issues and are actively engaged in promoting sustainability.

RESUMEN

ISSUE ADDRESSED: This study examined how families with young children access and use different types of blue spaces and the health and development benefits, and potential negative effects. METHODS: Parents(n = 25) of young children across four coastal communities in Western Australia were recruited via purposive sampling to participate in interviews. A generic qualitative study design grounded in the pragmatism paradigm was utilised. RESULTS: Beaches were the most frequently used blue space for families all year around, however families did not necessarily attend their closest beach. This appears due to certain beach features making them more or less attractive for use regardless of the distance from home. Parents perceived blue spaces as health promoting due to the increased physical activity children did in and around these spaces. They also reported blue spaces could be positive for child development, contributing to the development of identity. Blue spaces were also perceived to promote children's environmental awareness and environmentally friendly behaviours. However, blue spaces could also be potentially risky environments for families with young children. CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight blue spaces are an important setting for supporting children's health, development and environmental consciousness. SO WHAT?: It is important to protect natural outdoor environments such as blue spaces for future generations. The findings can be used by governments and policy makers to improve the quality (features and amenities) of blue spaces and positively impact how often families (including those with dogs) use blue spaces and the benefits they experience.

RESUMEN

The Hangwurian City Development Model evolved to create a linkage within the concepts of environmental awareness, urban governance, and management. Others are sustainable urban development, urban liveability, and inclusive physical development. These were measured from various indicators ranging from population, environmental knowledge, economic prosperity, quality of life, and safety. The research sorts the critical objective of analysing the significant level of the indicator variables'; and determine the predictive relevance of the indicator variables. The exploratory research employed the partial least square using SmartPLS to evaluate the variables, collecting quantitative data through the open data tool kit from three selected cities of Lokoja, Minna, and Lafia in North-Central Nigeria. The research sampled 399 respondents across the cities randomly selected amongst residents aged 18 years and more reliably targeted household heads as the unit of measurement is the household. The research findings show that most of the examined variables have Cronbach's Alpha above 0.7, and most of the retained variables have a significant value of greater or equal to 0.7. The average variance of the indicators where very substantial as most were within the 0.5 to 0.6 band. Most of the evaluated indicators have a significant performance index of between 50 and 65 %. The research recommended that this model be applied as a procedural model to guide city development at a regional scale. Hence, it was concluded that for city development to occur and evolve without ills which Hangwurian city development stands for, it must be viewed from the path linkage and significance of environment, governance, sustainability, liveability, and inclusion.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Green consumption plays a crucial role in mitigating environmental degradation. Governments and corporations are actively fostering the growth of green consumption. The escalating environmental issues have awakened consumers' environmental and competitive awareness, which significantly aids in increasing the probability of green food consumption. Methods: This study, based on the Self-Consistency Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior, constructs a model to analyze the effects of consumer competitive and environmental awareness on green food purchase intentions. Data from 700 consumer surveys were examined through structural equation modeling. Results: Findings indicate that while consumer competitive awareness negatively impacts green self-efficacy and perceived control, environmental awareness has a positive effect. Green self-efficacy and perceived control both positively influence green food purchase intentions. Notably, competitive awareness has a more substantial negative impact on perceived control compared to green self-efficacy. In contrast, the positive influence of environmental awareness on green self-efficacy is stronger than on perceived control. Moreover, the effect of green self-efficacy on green food purchase intention is more pronounced than that of perceived control. Discussion: Strategies like enhancing media publicity, educational initiatives, and improving purchase convenience can increase consumer purchase intentions. This study offers valuable insights for governments and businesses in understanding consumer psychology in green food consumption, aiding in marketing strategies for green food products.
