RESUMEN
Neotropical seasonal dry forest (NSDF) is one of the most threatened ecosystems according to global climate change predictions. Nonetheless, few studies have evaluated the global climate change impacts on diversity patterns of NSDF plants. The lack of whole biome-scale approaches restricts our understanding of global climate change consequences in the high beta-diverse NSDF. We analysed the impact of global climate change on species distribution ranges, species richness, and assemblage composition (beta diversity) for 1,178 NSDF species. We used five representative plant families (in terms of abundance, dominance, and endemism) within the NSDF: Cactaceae, Capparaceae, Fabaceae, Malvaceae, and Zygophyllaceae. We reconstructed potential species distributions in the present and future (2040-2080), considering an intermediate Shared Socioeconomic Pathway and two dispersal ability assumptions on the taxa. Using a resource use scores index, we related climate-induced range contractions with species' water stress tolerance. Even under a favourable dispersal scenario, species distribution and richness showed future significant declines across those sites where mean temperature and precipitation seasonality are expected to increase. Further, changes in species range distribution in the future correlated positively with potential use of resources in Fabaceae. Results suggest that biotic heterogenization will likely be the short-term outcome at biome scale under dispersal limitations. Nonetheless, by 2080, the prevailing effect under both dispersal assumptions will be homogenization, even within floristic nuclei. This information is critical for further defining new areas worth protecting and future planning of mitigation actions for both species and the whole biome.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: The bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) is a structure with a peculiar neurochemical composition involved in modulating anxietylike behavior and fear. AIM: The present study investigated the effects on the BNST neurochemical composition and neuronal structure in critical moments of the postnatal period in gestational protein-restricted male rats' offspring. METHODS: Dams were maintained during the pregnancy on isocaloric rodent laboratory chow with standard protein content [NP, 17%] or low protein content [LP, 6%]. BNST from male NP and age-matched LP offspring was studied using the isotropic fractionator method, Neuronal 3D reconstruction, dendritic-tree analysis, blotting analysis, and high-performance liquid chromatography. RESULTS: Serum corticosterone levels were higher in male LP offspring than NP rats in 14-day-old offspring, without any difference in 7-day-old progeny. The BNST total cell number and anterodorsal BNST division volume in LP progeny were significantly reduced on the 14th postnatal day compared with NP offspring. The BNST HPLC analysis from 7 days-old LP revealed increased norepinephrine levels compared to NP progeny. The BNST blot analysis from 7-day-old LP revealed reduced levels of GR and BDNF associated with enhanced CRF1 expression compared to NP offspring. 14-day-old LP offspring showed reduced expression of MR and 5HT1A associated with decreased DOPAC and DOPA turnover levels relative to NP rats. In Conclusion, the BNST cellular and neurochemical changes may represent adaptation during development in response to elevated fetal exposure to maternal corticosteroid levels. In this way, gestational malnutrition alters the BNST content and structure and contributes to already-known behavioral changes.

Abstract: Introduction: knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is known as the most common form of osteoarthrosis with a 6% prevalence in people over 30 years old, and more than 40% in the population over 70 years old. The use of PRP led to diverse results and this disparity can be attributed to the dissimilar methods of PRP preparation. This study aims to assess the functional effects of intraosseous (IO) and intraarticular (IA) injections of platelet rich plasma (PRP) followed by IA injections of hyaluronic acid (HA). Objectives: this study aimed to assess the functional effects of intraosseous (IO) and intraarticular (IA) injections of platelet rich plasma (PRP) followed by IA injections of hyaluronic acid (HA), administered 3 and 4 weeks after the initiation of treatment in 33 patients with grade II-III (Ahlback scale) knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Material and methods: retrospectively, 33 patients were assessed using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) osteoarthritis index and visual analogue scale (VAS) score. They were followed-up for 12.92 months on average. Patients were divided into three groups based on age and four groups based on the follow-up period. Results: the pre-operative mean of the WOMAC index was 44.35 ± 20.20 and the post-operative mean was 22.81 ± 17.25 (p < 0.001). The pre-operative and post-operative mean of the VAS scores were 5.79 ± 2.01 and 2.41 ± 1.43 (p < 0.001), respectively. The largest improvement in WOMAC (from 42.86 to 13.69) was observed in the youngest patients (44 to 55 years old) and the largest reduction in VAS (from 6.89 to 2.22) was seen in patients aged 56 to 70 years. Conclusion: the combination of IO and IA plasma rich in growth factor (PRGF) treatment with the IA-HA treatment yielded excellent results, diminishing pain and improving motor functionality in patients with KOA.

RESUMEN
Barium titanate (BaTiO3) single crystal with a tetragonal phase was characterized by nanoindentation. Elastic and elastic-plastic deformation regimes were obtained. The main objective was the evaluation of the anisotropic behavior related to mechanical properties associated with the cross-section of the ferroelectrica- andc-domains (In-plane and out-of-plane) in (001) configuration domains. This behavior was evaluated along a line perpendicular to the between domains, which demonstrated that the mechanical properties of the BaTiO3single crystal depend on the distance from due to the effect of the influence of the neighbor domain. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model was developed to simulate mechanical effects revealed by the nanoindentations test. The FE simulation demonstrated that there is no simple isotropic mechanical behavior associated with the domain type. Numerical simulations and experiments performed to study ferroelastic switching domains in BaTiO3crystals revealed the interaction of the 90°-cadomain with the indentation position.
RESUMEN
It is known that members of the bacterial genus Azospirillum can promote the growth of a great variety of plants, an ability harnessed by the industry to create bioproducts aimed to enhance the yield of economically relevant crops. Its versatile metabolism allows this bacterium to adapt to numerous environments, from optimal to extreme or highly polluted. The fact of having been isolated from soil and rhizosphere samples collected worldwide and many other habitats proves its remarkable ubiquity. Azospirillum rhizospheric and endophytic lifestyles are governed by several mechanisms, leading to efficient niche colonization. These mechanisms include cell aggregation and biofilm formation, motility, chemotaxis, phytohormone and other signaling molecules production, and cell-to-cell communication, in turn, involved in regulating Azospirillum interactions with the surrounding microbial community. Despite being infrequently mentioned in metagenomics studies after its introduction as an inoculant, an increasing number of studies detected Azospirillum through molecular tools (mostly 16S rRNA sequencing) as part of diverse, even unexpected, microbiomes. This review focuses on Azospirillum traceability and the performance of the available methods, both classical and molecular. An overview of Azospirillum occurrence in diverse microbiomes and the less-known features explaining its notorious ability to colonize niches and prevail in multiple environments is provided.

Among the exotic species of fish produced in Brazil, the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) has been highlighted during the past few years. The expansion of this sector has been intensifying the need for further studies in order to decrease production and health problems presented in aquaculture, as well as to develop alternative technics to controversial antimicrobial treatments. In this context, the use of probiotics has been shown to be a promising approach to the improvement in trout husbandry. Thus, the present study aimed to contribute to the development of an alternative technology in the rainbow trout husbandry by evaluating the effect of probiotic preparations on the performance of the animals subjected to conventional husbandry conditions or chronic stress. Therefore, in this paper we report the results regarding the evaluation of the viability of a pool of 4 Lactobacillus probiotic strains incorporated into rainbow trout ration using soybean oil as vehicle. The results have demonstrated a high efficacy of cell incorporation into the ration with high viability rate after storage for 120 days at 4°C.(AU)

The Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a set of alterations that increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). There is evidence that obesity and the development of metabolic syndrome lead to alterations in cognitive processes. In this work it was proposed to determine if generating the metabolic syndrome produces changes in the electric unitary spontaneous activity in the hippocampus as a possible sustain of the learning alterations. In Wistar rat with a hypercaloric diet, metabolic syndrome was provoked, and this was confirmed with the determination of body and metabolic parameters as a measure of intraperitoneal fat, glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol. Electrophysiological records were made in the hippocampus and it was determined that rats treated with a hypercaloric diet show a significant decrease in such activity. Thus, it is shown that rats that were caused metabolic syndrome, alter their hippocampal electrophysiological activity.
RESUMEN
OBJECTIVE: To establish the presence of alarm fatigue, the clinical relevance of alarms and the stimulus-response time of the health team in an Adult Intensive Care Unit. METHOD: Descriptive, quantitative, observational study, developed in the Multipurpose Adult Intensive Care Unit. Population made up of health personnel and the ICU teams. The method used was non-participant observation. Follow-up was carried out over 120 hours in three months. The variables studied were number of alarms activated, time elapsed between the alert sound of the blood pressure parameter, heart rate and oximetry and the response of the health personnel who attended the alarm. A descriptive statistical analysis was carried out. RESULTS: 5,147 alarms were detected, on average 43 alarms / hour, of these 52.8% corresponded to multiparameter monitors and the rest to other equipment. Of those generated by multiparameter monitors, 37.3% were blood pressure, 33.4% oximetry and 29.3% heart rate. The clinical relevance was low in 42.7%, medium in 49.8% and high in 7.5%. The stimulus response time was between 0 and 60 seconds for 37% of the alarms; however, 42.5% had no response, which is why they are considered fatigued. A statistically significant relationship was found between the response time and the clinical relevance of the alarms (p = .000). CONCLUSIONS: The presence of alarm fatigue was evident; with predominance of clinical relevance in the middle and low ranges. The health personnel responded within the time established for timely attention to the non-fatigued alarms.

This paper presents a fuzzy-multiple objective optimization methodology to plan stand-alone electricity generation systems. The optimization process considers three main objectives, namely technology cost, environmental and societal impacts. For each feasible solution of the Pareto set, a system reliability index is evaluated along the lifetime of the project. As a key contribution, the decision making process is carried out by applying a fuzzy satisfaction method (FSM). The FSM accounts simultaneously four key performance indexes (KPI): technical, economic, environmental and social. The novelty of the proposal lies on the inclusion of societal impact (local wealth creation) in the FSM used here to select the more appropriate solution. Previous contributions on FSM only accounts two of four indexes considered in this paper. The methodology was applied in a Colombian case study. The results show the importance of the simultaneous consideration of technical, economic, environmental and social objectives in the evaluation of off-grid energization solutions.
RESUMEN
INTRODUCTION: CD47 over expression has been reported in several tumor subtypes. CD47 interacts with SIRPalpha on macrophages inhibiting phagocytic signal, providing a survival advantage to tumor. CD47, therefore, represents a valuable target for immunotherapy and is currently under clinical investigation. We aimed to study CD47 expression in Hodgkin Reed Sternberg cells (HRS). METHODS: We tested a polyclonal CD47 antibody (LifeSpan Biosciences, Seattle, WA) expression along with classical HRS cell markers on a tissue array of 16 classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (CHL) tumor biopsies obtained from newly diagnosed, non-selected patients (8 Female, 8 Male patients) in our institution from October 2016 to January 2018. Histologic subtypes were nodular sclerosis in 11 cases, mixed Cellularity in 3 cases and lymphocyte rich in 2 additional cases. Median age was 53 years (Range: 8, 74). Early stage disease was found in three patients without unfavorable prognostic factors according to EORTC and GHSG criteria, one patient with unfavorable prognostic factors and nine patients had advanced disease. Bulk disease was present in one patient. Normal lymphoid tissue and normal prostate epithelium were used as normal controls as recommended by manufacturer. Approval from the Local Ethical committee was obtained before any analysis. RESULTS: CD47 was overexpressed on all HRS cells with a characteristic dot-like pattern in 13/13 cases of CHL. HRS clearly expressed CD47 more intensely than infiltrating T and stromal cells. DISCUSSION: We propose that HRS cells, by up-regulating CD47, might avoid innate immunity check on tumor growth, which could be circumvented using blocking monoclonal antibodies.

Abstract Cheirodon interruptus is a ubiquitous small characid that inhabits the Pampean region and commonly used as bait. Its vast market is supplied from the wild population causing a significant environmental impact. In this study, we assess the effect of photoperiod on ovarian maturation in order to evaluate its potential as a tool to manipulate reproduction under artificial conditions. Four treatments in triplicate (light: dark, L: D) were tested: 24L: 0D, 12L: 12D, 0L: 24D and a progressive photoperiod corresponding to the daily photoperiod increments in wild during winter-spring transition, accelerated three times. The experiment was conducted for 45 days. Gonadosomatic index (GSI), oocyte mean diameter, vitellogenic oocyte proportions, plasma estradiol concentrations (E2), condition factor (Kn) and standard length were estimated. Values of mean GSI, oocyte diameter, vitellogenic oocyte proportions and E2 concentration were maximum in the progressive treatment indicating vitellogenesis stimulation. In turn the same parameters were minimum in the 24L: 0D, revealing the vitellogenesis inhibition. This study showed that photoperiodic regime play an important role in the onset of ovarian maturation in C. interruptus.

Cheirodon interruptus is a ubiquitous small characid that inhabits the Pampean region and commonly used as bait. This study showed that photoperiodic regime play an important role in the onset of ovarian maturation in C. interruptus.(AU)

INTRODUCTION: Organ transplantation is often the only possible treatment to save the lives of patients with end-stage organ failure. Limiting factors include failure to notify in cases of patients with brain death, the inefficient procurement and distribution of organs, the lack of specific educational policies for health care professionals, lack of knowledge on the organ transplantation process, and family refusal for organ donation. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the knowledge of students enrolled in different undergraduate university courses in Rio de Janeiro on the regulations and strategies governing transplant organ donation in Brazil. METHODS: This qualitative, observational study used a 10-item questionnaire aimed at obtaining data on respondents' general knowledge regarding organ donation and transplantation. The questionnaire was applied using either a printed or an electronic version developed on Google Forms and was completed anonymously. RESULTS: Overall, 587 questionnaires were completed. The participants were divided into 3 groups according to their field of study: 256 (43.6%) from courses related to arts and humanities, 159 (27.1%) from science and technology-related courses, and 172 (29.3%) from the biomedical field. Most respondents (396; 67.5%) were unaware of the criteria required to be an organ transplant donor. CONCLUSION: There is a significant lack of knowledge among university students on issues related to the organ donation and transplantation process in Brazil.

Animal evidence has suggested that maternal emotional and nutritional stress during pregnancy is associated with behavioral outcomes in offspring. The nature of the stresses applied may differ, but it is often assumed that the mother's hippocampus-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HHPA) axis response releases higher levels of glucocorticoid hormones. The bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) is in a pivotal position to regulate the HHPA axis and the stress response, and it has been implicated in anxiety behavior. In the current study, to search whether BNST structural changes and neurochemical alterations are associated with anxiety-related behavior in adult gestational protein-restricted offspring relative to an age-matched normal protein diet (NP) rats, we conduct behavioral tests and, BNST dendritic tree analysis by Sholl analysis, associated to immunoblotting-protein quantification [11ß-HSD2, GR, MR, AT1R, 5HT1A and 5HT2A, corticotrophin-releasing factor (CRH) and CRH1]. Dams were maintained either on isocaloric standard rodent chow [with NP content, 17% casein or low protein content (LP), 6% casein] chow throughout their entire pregnancy. Here, in rats subjected to gestational protein restriction, we found: (a) a significant reduction in dendritic length and impoverished dendritic arborization in BNST neurons; (b) an elevated plasmatic corticosterone levels; and (c) associated with enhanced anxiety-like behavior when compared with age-matched NP offspring. Moreover, altered protein (11ß-HSD2, GR, MR and type 1 CRH receptors) expressions may underlie the increase in anxiety-like behavior in LP offspring. This work represents the first demonstration that BNST developmental plasticity by maternal protein restriction, resulting in fine structural changes and neurochemical alterations that are associated with modified behavioral states.
