RESUMEN

Bioassay-guided fractionation of the 80% ethanol extract of Gynostemma compressum X. X. Chen & D. R. Liang (Cucurbitaceae) resulted in the isolation and identification of eight undescribed triterpenoids, gycomol VN1, gycomol VN2, and gycomosides VN1-6 from the bioactive n-butanol fraction. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, high-resolution electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry, and chemical methods. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their 5'-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC) activation effects on 3T3-L1 cells. Importantly, gycomol VN2, gycomoside VN1, and gycomosides VN3-5 activated the phosphorylation of AMPK and its downstream substrate ACC in 3T3-L1 cells at a dose of 10 µM. These effects imply that the activation of AMPK and ACC by active compounds from G. compressum has considerable potential for the prevention of obesity and its related disorders by activating AMPK signaling pathways.

RESUMEN

The chemical composition of Gynostemma burmanicum King ex Chakrav. was investigated for the first time in this study. Nine dammarane glycosides (1‒9) were isolated from the EtOH extract of the aerial parts of G. burmanicum. Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic interpretation as well as by chemical studies. The new compounds were 3ß,20S-dihydroxydammar-24-ene-3-O-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-20-O-[ß-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→6)-ß-D-glucopyranoside] (1), 3ß,12ß,20S-trihydroxydammar-24-ene-3-O-ß-D-xylopyranosyl-20-O-[ß-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→6)-ß-D-glucopyranoside] (2), and 12-oxo-3ß,20S-dihydroxydammar-24-ene-3-O-[ß-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-ß-D-glucopyranosyl]-20-O-[ß-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→6)-ß-D-glucopyranoside] (3).

RESUMEN

Two new abietane diterpenes, huperphlegmarin A-B (1-2), were isolated from the aerial parts of Huperzia phlegmaria (L.) Rothm. (Lycopodiaceae), in addition to five known compounds including lycoxanthol (3), 21ß-hydroxyserrat-14-en-3ß-yl acetate (4), 21α-hydroxyserrat-14-en-3ß-yl acetate (5), 21α-hydroxyserrat-14-en-3ß-ol (6), and fawcettidine (7). Their structures were determined by the combination analyses of spectroscopy, including 1D-, 2D-NMR, HRESIMS, CD and comparison with the reported data in the literature. Huperphlegmarin B (2) presented the rare 1,11-epoxy group in the molecule. Compounds 3, 4, 5 and 6 were performed for AChE inhibitory activity and compound 3 showed the inhibitory activity against AChE with IC50 of 465.6 µg/mL.

RESUMEN

The study on Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall was carried out in Chi Linh (Hai Duong province) in September 2004. Leaves of Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall were collected, dried, grilled to powder, then extracted and isolated flavonoid. Two flavonoids were isolated, on the base of m.p, UV, IR, MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT analyses, they were identified as Kaempferol and Quercetin. This is the first time the flavonoids were reported as a substance isolated from Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall in Vietnam

There were 20 flavonoids isolated and identified from plants of genus Sambucus, including 8 anthocyanines and 12 other flavonoids. According to Richard Bolli, genus Sambucus worldwide included 9 species, 8 subspecies and 2 variety. Only 2 species and 2 subspecies among them were studied about flavonoid components, so it needs further studies of flavonoids in other plants of genus Sambucus, to find natural sources of antioxydative compounds for prevention and treatment
