RESUMEN

In order to discuss the clinical and MRI features, diagnosis, and prevention of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), we reported an adult case of MOG antibody-related disease misdiagnosed as cerebral infarction. This patient's first clinical symptom was limb weakness, that different from previous reports of MOG antibody-related diseases, such as brainstem encephalitis, neuromyelitis optical, and transverse myelitis. The main treatment plan is high-dose corticosteroid therapy combined with immunoglobulin therapy. This case indicated that some MOGAD patients lack of specificity in the clinical manifestations and imaging perhaps would be misdiagnosed as cerebral infarction, encephalitis, immune peripheral neuropathy, MS, NMOSD, and other diseases. For patients with atypical clinical manifestations or imaging, it is especially important to take antibody detection as early as possible to make correct diagnosis and active treatment in time to avoid disability.

The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick), one of the most economically destructive pests of tomato, causes severe yields losses of tomato production globally. Rapid evolution of insecticide resistance requires the development of alternative control strategy for this pest. RNA interference (RNAi) represents a promising, innovative control strategy against key agricultural insect pests, which has recently been licensed for Colorado Potato Beetle control. Here two essential genes, voltage-gated sodium channel (Nav) and NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase (CPR) were evaluated as targets for RNAi using an ex vivo tomato leaf delivery system. Developmental stage-dependent expression profiles showed TaNav was most abundant in adult stages, whereas TaCPR was highly expressed in larval and adult stages. T. absoluta larvae feeding on tomato leaflets treated with dsRNA targeting TaNav and TaCPR showed significant knockdown of gene expression, leading to reduction in adult emergence. Additionally, tomato leaves treated with dsRNA targeting these two genes were significantly less damaged by larval feeding and mining. Furthermore, bioassay with LC30 doses of λ-cyholthin showed that silencing TaNav and TaCPR increased T. absoluta mortality about 32.2 and 17.4%, respectively, thus indicating that RNAi targeting TaNav and TaCPR could increase the susceptibility to λ-cyholthin in T. absoluta. This study demonstrates the potential of using RNAi targeting key genes, like TaNav and TaCPR, as an alternative technology for the control of this most destructive tomato pests in the future.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment is common in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and occurs through multiple mechanisms, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology and the involvement of α-synucleinopathies. We aimed to investigate the pathological biomarkers of both PD and AD in plasma and neuronal extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their association with different types of cognitive impairment in PD patients. METHODS: A total of 122 patients with PD and 30 healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional cohort study between March 2021 and July 2023. Non-dementia PD patients were divided into amnestic and non-amnestic groups according to the memory domain of a neuropsychological assessment. Plasma and neuronal EV biomarkers, including α-synuclein (α-syn), beta-amyloid (Aß), total tau (T-tau), phosphorylated tau181 (p-tau181), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), were measured using a single-molecule array and a chemiluminescence immunoassay, respectively. RESULTS: Neuronal EV but not plasma α-syn levels, were significantly increased in PD as compared to healthy controls, and they were positively associated with UPDRS part III scores and the severity of cognitive impairment. A lower plasma Aß42 level and higher neuronal EV T-tau level were found in the amnestic PD group compared to the non-amnestic PD group. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the current study demonstrate that neuronal EV α-syn levels can be a sensitive biomarker for assisting in the diagnosis and disease severity prediction of PD. Both AD and PD pathologies are important factors in cognitive impairment associated with PD, and AD pathologies are more involved in amnestic memory deficit in PD.

Phase-change nanodroplets (PCNDs) are customizable and controllable theranostic agents of particular interest in extravascular therapies such as drug delivery and histotripsy. High-bulk-boiling-point (HBP) PCNDs are preferred for their enhanced thermal stability under physiological temperature to achieve on-demand therapeutic effects on target sites - mainly in tumor tissue. However, the behavioral patterns of high-concentration, heterogeneously distributed HBP PCNDs in vivo have rarely been explored - the foci of PCNDs-related therapies mostly fall on the final therapeutic effect rather than the detailed behaviors of PCNDs, which may hamper the development and improvement of in vivo treatments with PCNDs. To fill the gap, we demonstrate an ultrasound-only extravascular monitoring technique to analyze the underlying behavioral patterns of intratumorally-injected HBP PCNDs. In our hypothesis, recondensation and coalescence are the two predominant patterns influencing the trend of the post-activation signal of PCNDs. A "blink map" method was thus proposed to separate the two parts of the signal by recognizing the unique signal pattern of stochastic recondensation, and four derivative metrics were calculated for further analysis. The results revealed the post-activation patterns of PCNDs at different activation-pulse durations and activation stages throughout the activation-imaging period, and several general trends were observed and explained by existing theories, suggesting the feasibility of our extravascular monitoring technique. Overall, this work enriches the knowledge of the characteristics of HBP PCNDs as extravascular theranostic agents, and the monitoring results have the potential to provide timely feedback on PCNDs-related treatments underway, which may help adjust the treatment strategy and improve the therapeutic efficacy.

The construction and regulation of built-in electric field (BIEF) are considered effective strategies for enhancing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance of transition metal-based electrocatalysts. Herein, we present a strategy to regulate the electronic structure of nickel-iron layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) by constructing and enhancing the BIEF induced by in-situ heterojunction transformation. This concept is demonstrated through the design and synthesis of Ag2S@S/NiFe-LDH (p-n heterojunction) and Ag@S/NiFe-LDH (Mott-Schottky heterojunction). Benefiting from the larger BIEF of Mott-Schottky heterojunction, efficient electron transfer occurs at the interface between silver (Ag) and NiFe-LDH. As a result, Ag@S/NiFe-LDH exhibits excellent OER performance, requiring only a 232 mV overpotential at 1 M KOH to achieve a current density of 100 mA cm-2, with a small Tafel slope of 73 mV dec-1, as well as excellent electrocatalytic durability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further verified that stronger BIEF in Mott-Schottky heterojunction enhances the electron interaction at the interfaces, reduces the energy barrier for the rate-determining step (RDS), and accelerates the OER kinetics. This work provides an effective strategy for designing catalyst with larger BIEF to enhance electrocatalytic activity.

Centralized Training with Decentralized Execution (CTDE) is a prevalent paradigm in the field of fully cooperative Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL). Existing algorithms often encounter two major problems: independent strategies tend to underestimate the potential value of actions, leading to the convergence on sub-optimal Nash Equilibria (NE); some communication paradigms introduce added complexity to the learning process, complicating the focus on the essential elements of the messages. To address these challenges, we propose a novel method called Optimistic Sequential Soft Actor Critic with Motivational Communication (OSSMC). The key idea of OSSMC is to utilize a greedy-driven approach to explore the potential value of individual policies, named optimistic Q-values, which serve as an upper bound for the Q-value of the current policy. We then integrate a sequential update mechanism with optimistic Q-value for agents, aiming to ensure monotonic improvement in the joint policy optimization process. Moreover, we establish motivational communication modules for each agent to disseminate motivational messages to promote cooperative behaviors. Finally, we employ a value regularization strategy from the Soft Actor Critic (SAC) method to maximize entropy and improve exploration capabilities. The performance of OSSMC was rigorously evaluated against a series of challenging benchmark sets. Empirical results demonstrate that OSSMC not only surpasses current baseline algorithms but also exhibits a more rapid convergence rate.

Intentional distortions of [BX6] octahedra within perovskite structures have been recognized as a potent strategy for precise band gap adjustments and optimization of their photovoltaic properties, yet information regarding charge carrier dynamics linked to octahedral distortion under ambient conditions for chalcogenide perovskites remains limited. In this study, we utilize ab initio nonadiabatic molecular dynamics to explore the dynamics of photogenerated carriers in a representative two-dimensional Ba3Zr2S7 material in the Ruddlesden-Popper phase. The theoretical results highlight the influence of octahedral rotation on the materials' stability and carrier recombination lifetime of the system. Specifically, the octahedrally rotating P42/mnm phase exhibits a prolonged nonradiative carrier recombination lifetime attributed to the stabilized electron-phonon coupling. These findings offer valuable insights into the fundamental physical characteristics of imposed octahedral distortion and its potential for optimizing the optoelectronic performance of 2D Ruddlesden-Popper Ba-Zr-S chalcogenide materials.

Zucchini fruit are notably susceptible to chilling injury when stored at low temperatures. The purpose of this experimental investigation was to assess the influence of strigolactone (ST) (5 µmol L-1) on mitigating chilling injury and the metabolic changes in amino acids, ascorbic acid, and abscisic acid in zucchini fruit stored at 4°C. Research findings demonstrated that ST-treated zucchini fruit displayed a significantly higher tolerance to chilling stress compared to the control group. Postharvest ST treatment led to a decrease in weight loss, accompanied by reduced levels of malondialdehyde and relative ion leakage compared to the untreated group. ST immersion significantly boosted the metabolic pathways associated with proline and arginine, affecting both the enzymatic reactions and gene expressions, thus cumulatively increasing the internal concentrations of these amino acids in zucchini fruit. Zucchini treated with ST exhibited an increased concentration of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) as a result of augmented activities and elevated transcriptional levels of glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), GABA transaminase (GAT), and succinate semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSD). In the ST-treated sample, the elevated enzymatic activities and enhanced gene expressions within the ascorbic acid (AsA) biosynthesis pathway worked together to sustain AsA accumulation. The application of ST resulted in a rise in abscisic acid (ABA) concentration, which correspondingly correlated with the induction of both activities and gene expression levels of crucial enzymes involved in ABA metabolism. Our findings revealed that submerging zucchini fruit in ST could be a highly effective strategy for boosting their chilling tolerance. The alleviation in chilling injury induced by ST may be attributed to the modulation of proline, arginine, GABA, AsA and ABA metabolism.

To investigate the association between serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels, inflammatory cytokines, and cognitive function to assess their utility in the early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 157 community-dwelling individuals aged 55 years and above, categorized into healthy controls, MCI, and probable Alzheimer's disease (AD). Serum levels of NfL, inflammatory cytokines, and AD pathology markers were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Correlations between these biomarkers and cognitive function were analyzed, and the diagnostic performance of the cognitive assessment scales and serum biomarker concentrations was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Serum NfL levels were significantly elevated in MCI and probable AD groups compared to healthy controls. Positive correlations were found between serum NfL and inflammatory cytokines IL-1ß, IL-6, and Aß40. Combining serum NfL with p-tau217 and the Boston Naming Test significantly enhanced the predictive accuracy for MCI. However, combining serum NfL with inflammatory markers did not improve MCI prediction accuracy. Elevated serum NfL is associated with cognitive impairment and inflammatory markers, suggesting its potential as a peripheral serum biomarker for MCI detection. The combination of serum NfL with p-tau217 and cognitive tests could offer a more accurate prediction of MCI, providing new insights for AD treatment strategies.

Abiotic stress caused by soil salinization remains a major global challenge that threatens and severely impacts crop growth, causing yield reduction worldwide. In this study, we aim to investigate the damage of salt stress on the leaf physiology of two varieties of rice (Huanghuazhan, HHZ, and Xiangliangyou900, XLY900) and the regulatory mechanism of Hemin to maintain seedling growth under the imposed stress. Rice leaves were sprayed with 5.0 µmol·L-1 Hemin or 25.0 µmol·L-1 ZnPP (Zinc protoporphyrin IX) at the three leaf and one heart stage, followed by an imposed salt stress treatment regime (50.0 mmol·L-1 sodium chloride (NaCl)). The findings revealed that NaCl stress increased antioxidant enzymes activities and decreased the content of nonenzymatic antioxidants such as ascorbate (AsA) and glutathione (GSH). Furthermore, the content of osmoregulatory substances like soluble proteins and proline was raised. Moreover, salt stress increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) content in the leaves of the two varieties. However, spraying with Hemin increased the activities of antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) and accelerated AsA-GSH cycling to remove excess ROS. In summary, Hemin reduced the effect of salt stress on the physiological characteristics of rice leaves due to improved antioxidant defense mechanisms that impeded lipid peroxidation. Thus, Hemin was demonstrated to lessen the damage caused by salt stress.

BACKGROUND: Internal and external fixation are common surgical procedures for treating fractures. However, the impact of different surgical approaches (including internal and external fixations) on patients' psychological status and Quality of Life (QoL) is rarely examined. Herein, we aimed to investigate the effects of internal and external fixation on anxiety, depression, insomnia, and overall mental and physical health in Distal Radius Fractures (DRF) patients. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study on 96 fracture patients who underwent internal fixation (57 patients) or external fixation (39 patients). The Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), and the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire were used to assess the patients' pain, anxiety, depression, sleep, and QoL before surgery and at seven days, one month, and three months post-surgery. RESULTS: The VAS scores were significantly lower in the Internal Fixation Group (IFG) than in the External Fixation Group (EFG) on the seventh day and one month postoperatively (P < 0.05). Although both groups showed no significant anxiety, depression, or insomnia before surgery (P > 0.05), the EFG showed significantly higher HADS-A, HADS-D, and AIS scores than the IFG at seven days and one and three months postoperatively (P < 0.05). Additionally, changes in HADS-A, HADS-D, and AIS scores were most significant at day seven post-surgery in the EFG (P < 0.05). Furthermore, no significant difference was found between the two groups in the average Physical Component Summary (PCS) and Mental Component Summary (MCS) scores before surgery (P > 0.05). However, both groups showed positive changes in PCS and MCS scores at postoperative day seven and one and three months postoperatively, with the IFG having significantly higher average PCS and MCS scores compared to the EFG (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Compared to external fixation, internal fixation did not significantly impact patients' emotions regarding anxiety and depression in the early postoperative period, and physical and mental health recovery was better during the postoperative rehabilitation period. Furthermore, when there are no absolute indications, the impact on patients' psychological well-being should be considered as one of the key factors in the treatment plan during surgical approach selection.

Bud blight disease caused by Pseudomonas syringae is a major bacterial disease of tea plants in China. Concerns regarding the emergence of bacterial resistance to conventional copper controls have indicated the need to devise new methods of disease biocontrol. Phage-based biocontrol may be a sustainable approach to combat bacterial pathogens. In this study, a P. syringae phage was isolated from soil samples. Based on morphological characteristics, bacteriophage vB_PsS_LDT325 belongs to the Siphoviridae family; it has an icosahedral head with a diameter of 53 ± 1 nm and nonretractable tails measuring 110 ± 1 nm. The latent period and burst size of the phage were 10 min and 17 plaque-forming units (PFU)/cell, respectively. Furthermore, an analysis of the biological traits showed that the optimal multiplicity of infection (MOI) of the phage was 0.01. When the temperature exceeded 60°C, the phage titer began to decrease. The phage exhibited tolerance to a wide range of pH (3-11) and maintained relatively stable pH tolerance. It showed a high tolerance to chloroform, but was sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) light. The effects of phage LDT325 in treating P. syringae infections in vivo were evaluated using a tea plant. Plants were inoculated with 2 × 107 colony-forming units (CFU)/mL P. syringae using the needle-prick method and air-dried. Subsequently, plants were inoculated with 2 × 107 PFU/mL LDT325 phage. Compared with control plants, the bacterial count was reduced by 1 log10/0.5 g after 4 days in potted tea plants inoculated with the phage. These results underscore the phage as a potential antibacterial agent for controlling P. syringae.

Background: Current therapeutic measures for thyroid dysfunction are limited and often accompanied by adverse effects. The use of lipid-lowering drugs like statins has recently been associated with lower thyroid eye diseases risk. Objective: To investigate the implications of genetically proxied lipid-lowering drugs on thyroid dysfunction. Methods: In this drug-target Mendelian randomization (MR) study, we utilized genetic variants within drug target genes associated with low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or triglyceride (TG), derived from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis (N ≤ 188,577), to simulate lifelong drug interventions. Genetic summary statistics for thyroid dysfunction outcomes were retrieved from GWAS datasets of Thyroid Omics Consortium (N ≤ 54,288) and UK Biobank (N = 484,598). Inverse-variance-weighted MR (IVW-MR) method was performed as primary analysis, followed by validation in colocalization analysis. A subsequent two-step MR analysis was conducted to identify biomarkers mediating the identified drug-outcome association. Results: In IVW-MR analysis, genetic mimicry of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarylcoenzyme reductase (HMGCR) inhibitors (e.g. statins) was significantly associated with lower risk of hyperthyroidism in two independent datasets (OR1, 0.417 per 1-mmol/L lower in LDL-C; 95% CI 0.262 to 0.664; P1 = 2.262 × 10-4; OR2 0.996; 95% CI 0.993-0.998; P2 = 0.002). Two-step MR analysis revealed eighteen biomarkers linked to genetic mimicry of HMGCR inhibition, and identified insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels mediating 2.108% of the negative causal relationship between HMGCR inhibition and hyperthyroidism. Conclusion: This study supports HMGCR inhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy for hyperthyroidism and suggests its underlying mechanisms may extend beyond lipid metabolism. Further investigations through laboratory studies and clinical trials are necessary to confirm and elucidate these findings.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate and analyze the standard diagnostic methods for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). METHODS: This study used a prospective case-control study to examine baseline data and diagnostic indicators in a population of elderly with MCI. Based on different cognitive abilities, this study divided MCI and healthy control groups. The diagnostic indicators included CDT, MOCA, MMSE, PSQI, MBI, DST, HAMD, AD-related blood markers, and olfactory testing. The diagnostic value of each indicator was done using the ROC curve. RESULTS: This study included 240 adult participants, 135 in the health group and 105 in the MCI group. A comparison of baseline data revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups regarding age, blood glucose, MMSE, CTD, MOCA, ability to perform daily living, AD-related blood indices and olfactory tests (all p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis statistically showed that age, MOCA, and CDT were independent diagnostic factors for MCI (all p < 0.05). Combining these three indicators has the best diagnostic specificity (92.54%). AD-related blood and olfactory tests indices had only moderate diagnostic values (AUC: 0.7-0.8). CONCLUSION: Age, MOCA, and CDT are good indicators for diagnosing early-stage MCI. AD-related blood indices and olfactory tests can serve as valuable adjuncts in diagnosing MCI.

INTRODUCTION: The motor subtypes of Parkinson's disease (PD) are widely accepted and implemented. However, the motor subtypes have been thought to represent different stages of PD recently because some patients experience tremor-dominant (TD) conversion to the non-tremor-dominant subtype, such as postural instability-gait difficulty (PIGD). In this study, we explore the monoaminergic denervation features of the striatal and extra-striatal areas in patients with different subtypes of PD with 18F-9-fluoropropyl-(+)-dihydrotetrabenazine (18F-FP-DTBZ) PET/CT. METHODS: Sixty-five patients diagnosed with PD were included and classified as TD (n = 25) and PIGD (n = 40). We evaluated the difference of monoaminergic features of each subregion of brain between motor subtypes of PD, as well as associations between these features and Parkinsonian motor symptoms. RESULTS: The striatal standardized uptake value ratios (SUVR) showed that dopaminergic disruption of patients with PIGD was more symmetrical in the posterior ventral putamen (p < 0.001) and more severe in the ipsilateral posterior dorsal putamen (p < 0.001 corrected) compared with that of patients with TD. The severity of PIGD scores was associated with striatal dopaminergic depletion, while tremor was associated with monoaminergic changes in extra-striatal areas, including pallidus, thalamus, and raphe nuclie. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that patients with different motor subtypes may have different underlying mechanisms of PD pathogenesis. Therefore, accurate diagnosis of PD subtypes can aid prognosis evaluation and treatment decision-making.

Neurokinin B (NKB), a peptide encoded by the tachykinin 3 (TAC3), is critical for reproduction in all studied species. However, its potential roles in birds are less clear. Using the female chicken (c-) as a model, we showed that cTAC3 is composed of five exons with a full-length cDNA of 787 bp, which was predicted to generate the mature NKB peptide containing 10 amino acids. Using cell-based luciferase reporter assays, we demonstrated that cNKB could effectively and specifically activate tachykinin receptor 3 (TACR3) in HEK293 cells, suggesting its physiological function is likely achieved via activating cTACR3 signaling. Notably, cTAC3 and cTACR3 were predominantly and abundantly expressed in the hypothalamus of hens and meanwhile the mRNA expression of cTAC3 was continuously increased during development, suggesting that NKB-TACR3 may emerge as important components of the neuroendocrine reproductive axis. In support, intraperitoneal injection of cNKB could significantly promote hypothalamic cGnRH-Ι, and pituitary cFSHß and cLHß expression in female chickens. Surprisingly, cTAC3 and cTACR3 were also expressed in the pituitary gland, and cNKB treatment significantly increased cLHß and cFSHß expression in cultured primary pituitary cells, suggesting cNKB can also act directly at the pituitary level to stimulate gonadotropin synthesis. Collectively, our results reveal that cNKB functionally regulate GnRH/gonadotropin synthesis in female chickens.

Artificial insemination (AI) with liquid-stored semen is the most prevalent and efficient assisted reproduction technique in the modern pork industry. Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex component X (PDHX) was demonstrated to be associated with sperm metabolism and affected the boar sperm viability, motility, and fertility. Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Kinases (PDKs) are the key metabolic enzymes that regulate pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDHC) activity and also the conversion from glycolysis to oxidative phosphorylation. In the present study, two PDK inhibitors, Dichloroacetate (DCA) and Phenylbutyrate (4-PBA), were added to an extender and investigated to determine their regulatory roles in liquid-stored boar sperm at 17 °C. The results indicated that PDK1 and PDK3 were predominantly located at the head and flagella of the boar sperm. The addition of 2 mM DCA and 0.5 mM 4-PBA significantly enhanced the sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity (PMI), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and ATP content. In addition, DCA and 4-PBA exerted their effects by inhibiting PDK1 and PDK3, respectively. In conclusion, DCA and 4-PBA were found to regulate the boar sperm metabolic activities via PDK1 and PDK3. These both can improve the quality parameters of liquid-stored boar sperm, which will help to improve and optimize liquid-stored boar semen after their addition in the extender.

In recent years, "lying flat" has been enthusiastically pursued by young people in China, and it is worth studying its cause and social impact. However, there is still a lack of measurement tools that can scientifically evaluate an individual's tendency for "lying flat." In this study, a 6-item "Lying Flat" Tendency Scale was developed and cross-validated for reliability and validity in different samples from China. The findings demonstrated that the scale showed good internal consistency in three different samples; both exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis supported the single dimension model of the scale, indicating good construct validity; the LFTS total score was negatively correlated with the satisfaction of basic psychological needs, happiness index, and positive emotions, and was positively correlated with negative emotions; simultaneously, the LFTS total score was also significantly positively correlated with the choice of "lying flat" behavior in the simulated situation. These results show that the scale has good validity and reliability, and can be used as a measuring tool for subsequent empirical research. It will help to promote the development of empirical research on the phenomenon of "lying flat", help to understand the causes and consequences of "lying flat" more deeply, and also help to find effective ways to help young people break out of the "lying flat" dilemma.

Understanding the behavior of nanodroplets converted into microbubbles with applied ultrasound is an important problem in tumor therapeutical and diagnostic applications. In this study, a comprehensive model is proposed to investigate the vaporization process and the direct growth threshold of the nanodroplet by following the vapor bubble growth, especially attention devoted to the effect of tissue viscoelasticity and adjacent phase-changed microbubbles (PCMBs). It is shown that the ultrasonic energy must be sufficiently strong to counterbalance the natural condensation of the vapor bubble and the tissue stiffness-inhibitory effect. The softer tissue with a lower shear modulus favors the vaporization process, and the nanodroplet has a lower direct growth threshold in the softer tissue. Moreover, the adjacent PCMBs show a suppression effect on the vaporization process due to the negative value of the secondary Bjerknes force, implying an attractive force, preventing the nanodroplet from escaping from the constraint of the adjacent PCMBs. However, according to the linear scattering theory, the attractive force signifies that the constraint is weak, causing the direct growth threshold to increase in the range of 0.09-0.24 MPa. The weak increase in threshold demonstrates that the direct growth threshold is relatively unaffected by the adjacent PCMBs. The prediction results of our model are in good agreement with the experiment results obtained by the echo enhancement method, in which the threshold is relatively independent of the intermediate concentration. The findings presented here provide physical insight that will be further helpful in understanding the complex behavior of the nanodroplet responses to ultrasound in practical medical applications.

Quantum generative adversarial networks (QGANs), an intersection of quantum computing and machine learning, have attracted widespread attention due to their potential advantages over classical analogs. However, in the current era of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computing, it is essential to investigate whether QGANs can perform learning tasks on near-term quantum devices usually affected by noise and even defects. In this Letter, using a programmable silicon quantum photonic chip, we experimentally demonstrate the QGAN model in photonics for the first time to our knowledge and investigate the effects of noise and defects on its performance. Our results show that QGANs can generate high-quality quantum data with a fidelity higher than 90%, even under conditions where up to half of the generator's phase shifters are damaged, or all of the generator and discriminator's phase shifters are subjected to phase noise up to 0.04π. Our work sheds light on the feasibility of implementing QGANs on the NISQ-era quantum hardware.
