RESUMO
A mente humana não é uma "faculdade" isolada ou apriorística, mas uma "atividade" complexa, caracterizada por sua estrutura sistêmica, natureza mediada e origem histórico-social. Sua estrutura sistêmica compreende um conjunto dinâmico de componentes psicológicos (cognitivos, volitivos e afetivos) e regiões cerebrais interconexas, cada uma contribuindo com operações básicas para a realização da atividade como um todo. Seu caráter mediado, semiótico, decorre do fato de que o homem primeiro realiza ações mentais, opera sobre as representações simbólicas das coisas, estabelece projetos e programas, antes de operar no mundo material. A mente humana origina-se mediante a internalização ou reconstrução interna de operações externas, instrumentos e signos socialmente produzidos e compartilhados. A aquisição do signo linguístico, particularmente em situações dialógico-argumentativas, torna possível a autoregulação do comportamento, o pensamento lógico e discursivo, bem como capacidade de reflexão e julgamento. O desenvolvimento do córtex associativo multimodal, especialmente das regiões pré-frontais, é decisivo para a aquisição de tais habilidades cognitivas.
ABSTRACT
The human mind is not an isolated or a priori "faculty", but a complex "activity", characterised by its systemic structure, mediated character and historical-social origin. Its systemic structure comprises a dynamic ensemble of psychological (cognitive, volitive, and affective) components in connection with a distributed network of brain regions, each one contributing with basic operations to the accomplishment of the activity as a whole. Its mediated semiotic character results from the fact that the human being first accomplishes mental actions, by operating on symbolic representations of things and establishing projects and programs, before acting on the material world. The origin of the human mind is the internalization or internal reconstruction of socially produced and shared external operations, tools and signs. The acquisition of linguistic signs and the mastering of language, particularly in dialogical-argumentative contexts, are prerequisites for behavioral self-regulation, logical and discoursive reasoning, as well as for the ability to reflect and to judge. The development of the tertiary multimodal associative cortex, particularly that of prefrontal regions, is crucial for the acquisition of these cognitive abilities.
