ABSTRACT
The most important factors that determine if a woman develops osteoporosis are the maximum bone density achieved and the subsenquently bone lost after menopause. The genetic factors are very important to determine the bone mass peak.Enviromental influences on bone mass include calcium diet and appropriate exercise.Smoking and alcohol ingestion are associated with a reduced bone mass peak.Precocious menopause and low body weight are all risk factors for development osteoporosis. All these risk factors seem to reduce bone density and are possible predictive factors for bone fractures. The author studied 100 women after menopause, between 46 and 60 years of age, analysing the following risk factorsHeritage, white skin, smoking, alcohol ingestion, sedentary life, precocious menopause. The risk factors have great importance in developing postmenopausal osteoporosis.
