ABSTRACT
The female sterilization is a medical procedure that appeared about a hundred years ago in the United States of America. The main cause for this choice are therapeutical reasons and maternal health. Its development in Latin America occurred under this pattern. The present paper explores three historical moments of this phenomenon. These moments illustrate those transformations, exhibing different ideologies and values concerning the reproductive health in Latin America.(AU)
