ABSTRACT
From April 1974 to November 1975, 4 different types of fishing gear (otter trawl, gill net, casting net and fish-trap) were used to sample marine catfish in Cananéia. The species caught in the lagoon-estuarine complex of Cananéia were Arius spixii (Agassiz, 1829), Netuma barba (Lacépède, 1803), Genidens genidens (Valenciennes, 1839), Sciadeichthys luniscutis (Valenciennes, 1840), Bagre marinus (Mitchill, 1814), Bagre bagre (Linnaeus, 1766) and Notarius grandicassis (Valenciennes, 1840). The geographic distribution of these catfishes is variable according to species and individual body length. The type of fishing gear influenced directly the volume of fish and the size of each species of catfish.
RESUMO
Foram coletadas amostras durante o período de abril de 1974 a novembro de 1975 utilizando-se 4 diferentes tipos de aparelhos de pesca arrasto de porta (otter trawl), rede de espera (gill net), cerco fixo (fish trap) e tarrafa (casting-net). As espécies encontradas no complexo estuarino lagunar de Cananéia (25°S, 48°W) foram Arius spixii (Agassiz, 1829), Netuma barba (Lacépède, 1803), Genidens genidens (Valenciennes, 1839), Sciadeichthys luniscutis (Valenciennes, 1840), Bagre marinus (Mitchill, 1814), Bagre bagre (Linnaeus, 1766) e Notarius grandicassis (Valenciennes, 1840). A distribuição geográfica destes bagres varia conforme a espécie e tamanho dos indivíduos. O tipo de aparelho de pesca empregado influiu diretamente no volume de captura e no tamanho de cada espécie de bagre.
