ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the correlative factors of central diabetes insipidus (CDI) after surgery in patients with pituitary adenoma and its development. Methods Among 96 patients with diagnosed pituitary adenomas whose full follow-up information were kept, we retrospectively reviewed their classification of pituitary adenomas, approach of operation, urine volume and CDI lasting time after operation. Results CDI appeared in 71 patients (74.0%) with 42 CDI lasting time less than 3 weeks (43.7%), 19 lasting time from 3 weeks to 3 months (19.8%), and 10 with permanent CDI. Transcranial approach resulted in more CDI patients than transsphenoidal approach (P<0.05). Conclusion pituitary adenoma post-operative CDI is the complication that happens most commonly, and transcranial approach is much likely to have permanent post-operative CDI.
