ABSTRACT
This is a study about the research entitled "Fundraising and the Necessities of Nursing in Brazil", coordinated by the Brazilian Nursing Association.

Aim:

Analyze the background for the development of the research project entitled "Fundraising and the Necessities of Nursing in Brazil", coordinated by the Brazilian Nursing Association from 1956 to 1958.

Methodology:

An investigation based on the new cultural history approach, which has been developed based on documentary analysis. Results and

Discussion:

The characterization of the conditions that aid the development of the research went through the identification of the basis for this study, the needs of Brazilian nursing, and then, finally, the investigative essays that preceded it.

Conclusion:

there was a necessity to know the historical situation of Brazilian nursing so it was later possible to plan for its future. Then, there was a need for fundraising; the construction of a network involving many different institutions, sectors, agents and places, aimed to undertake research that could answer these objectives.
