RESUMEN
El mundo vegetal es, desde hace aproximadamente medio siglo,una de las fuentes más importantes de moléculas con actividad antineoplásica.Algunos de los tratamientos actuales tienen su origen en las plantas, ya que fue de ellas de donde se aisló el principio activo y,tras someterse a un proceso de investigación reglada, fue aprobado por las autoridades sanitarias. Junto a estos ejemplos aparecen diariamente otras terapias que provienen de la medicina alternativa, algunas de las cuales parecen tener ciertos efectos antiproliferativos invitro. El tratamiento concomitante de fármacos citostáticos y de hierbas medicinales puede tener riesgos para la salud del paciente, derivados sobre todo de las interacciones entre moléculas, pudiendo aumentar o disminuir el efecto de los antineoplásicos. El paciente oncológico busca en las terapias alternativas la solución no sólo al cáncer, sino también al dolor o a los efectos secundarios de la quimioterapia.En este punto el papel educador del profesional de la salud es realmente importante
ABSTRACT
The vegetal world has been for approximately over half a century one of the most important sources of molecules with antineoplastic properties. Some of the current treatments have their origin inplants, as it was from these plants that the active ingredient was isolated first from after a staged research process and later approvedby the healthcare authorities. In parallel to these examples, every day there are new therapies originated from alternative medicine. Some of these appear to have certain antiproliferative effects in vitro. The concomitant treatment of cytostatics and medicinal herbs can entail risks for the patient´s health. These risks come basically from the interactions with molecules, with an ability to either enhance or diminish the effect of antineoplastic agents. Theoncological patient tries to find a solution but not for cancer but to the pain or the secondary effects of chemotherapy in alternative therapies. In this sense, the educational role of the healthcare professionalis really important
