RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are no scales used by stoma and wound care nurses to evaluate the stoma care skills of individuals with a urostomy. PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the Turkish validity and reliability of the Urostomy Education Scale (UES). METHODS: The study sample consisted of 66 patients who had undergone radical cystectomy, were in the 0- to 7-day postoperative period, were older than 18 years of age, had no physical or mental disabilities, had no urostomy complications, and agreed to participate in the study. This study used translation and back-translation to determine the linguistic validity of the UES in Türkiye. Expert opinion was consulted for content validity. Then, 2 competent and 2 experienced nurses evaluated the face validity of the scale with 5 individuals with urostomies. Reliability of the scale was assessed using internal consistency, interrater reliability, and intraclass correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The content validity index was 0.81 and α = 0.66 to 0.95 for the Cronbach's alpha of the competent nurse assessment and α = 0.68 to 0.96 in the expert nurse assessment. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) results indicated sufficient and statistically significant agreement (ICC range: 0.6-1) between the evaluations made by the 2 evaluators for each skill. CONCLUSION: The Turkish version of the 7-item UES is a valid and reliable tool that can be used to determine the self-care levels of individuals with a urostomy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the psychometric properties of the Spanish-language version of the HIV-Symptom Index (HIV-SI) questionnaire in Spanish patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy. METHODS: Between 2014 and 2016, an observational, multicenter, prospective cohort study was conducted in seventeen Spanish hospitals to validate HIV-SI questionnaire in terms of: construct validity (confirmatory factor analysis), internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), convergent validity (Pearson's correlation coefficient) and Known-group validity. In addition, a sensitivity to change analysis was also performed. RESULTS: A total of 232 patients were included in the study. They had a mean age of 46.17 (SD9.82) and were 75% male. The median overall score for the HIV-SI was 10 (IQR 4- 19.5) and the most common symptoms reported were feelings of nervousness or anxiety, fatigue or energy loss, feeling sad or depressed, stomach pain or bloating, and difficulty sleeping. In the current study, the Spanish HIV-SI questionnaire showed a high internal consistency (α = 0.89) and adequate construct validity (CFI and TLI > 0.90). When contrasted with the MOS-HIV questionnaire, an inverse correlation was found. It showed a good association with the mental (r=-0.61; P < 0.0001) and physical score (r=-0.60; P < 0.0001). In a multivariate analysis, the age of the patient, female condition, hepatitis C coinfection, concomitant treatment and non-adherence resulted in a higher HIV-SI score. CONCLUSIONS: Our study has shown that the Spanish HIV-SI is a valid and reliable self-administered PROM for routine measurement of patient- reported symptoms among Spanish patients on antiretroviral treatment.

RESUMO

Mental health nurses are often responsible for assessment/management of inpatient aggression. Validated instruments such as the Dynamic Appraisal of Situational Aggression (DASA), can aid risk assessment. However, limited attention has been paid to evaluating nurses' ability to administer risk assessment instruments. An entrustable professional activity may offer way of evaluating risk assessment clinical activities. DASA trainers' perceptions of the value and utility of an EPA were explored via collection of data through focus groups, with 17 participants from six countries. Thematic analysis was conducted to analyze the data. Three themes were interpreted: (1) DASA trainers-a way of knowing and being (2) An EPA-something you did not know you need until you see it; (3) The DASA-EPA supports the need for training and importance of integrity in assessment. Trainers engaged in innovative ways to ensure training is suitable and responsive to needs of nurses and their setting. Participants understood how an EPA could be used to evaluate DASA administration, monitor DASA use, provide feedback, and highlight the importance of training to ensure best practice.

RESUMO

Assessing children's pain using patient-based pain scales can be challenging. Hence, there is a need of new version Artificial Intelligence Child Dental Anxiety Scale (AI-CDAS) to scale and test its psychometric properties (validity and reliability). This study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of Artificial Intelligence version of the Child Dental Anxiety Scale (AI-CDAS) for anxiety detection scale in children using face as a response set from October 2022 to December 2023. Aim of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of Artificial Intelligence based Child Dental Anxiety Scale (AI-CDAS) using a wide range of age samples in dental clinics. A total of 100 outpatients (Age 03-09 years) from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University Dental College and Hospital, Pune, India participated in this study. Dental anxiety was assessed using the Artificial Intelligence Child Dental Anxiety Scale (AI-CDAS) and comparing with a valid and reliable scale of Colored Version of Modified Facial Affective Scale. Reliability and validity was good and significant correlations were found between the AI-CDAS and the Colored Version of Modified Facial Affective Scale. This study suggests that the Artificial Intelligence based Child Dental Anxiety Scale (AI-CDAS) is a valid and reliable measure for assessing children's dental anxiety and may help encourage dentists to formally assess dental anxiety scale in day to day practice. Self-report measures are commonly employed in dental anxiety assessments. One advantage of self report measures is the ease of administration, taking relatively short period of time to complete. They can also assess the reaction to different aspects of the dental experience.

RESUMO

This research aims to create and evaluate an assessment tool termed Older Adults' First Aid Knowledge Scale, which measures the knowledge and attitude of Iranian grandparents about first aid. In accordance with COSIM guidelines, 485 individuals in southern Iran completed the instrument as part of a psychometric investigation. Rasch partial credit model (PCM), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis were used to analyze the results. The final version of OFAKS consisted of 18 items that were validated through EFA, CFA, and item response theory (IRT) analysis. All items showed measurement invariance and consecutive response groupings in the predictable order, and the instrument had strong internal consistency. Although Rasch's analysis demonstrated the significance of OFAKS, further investigations and testing in different settings are required to confirm the validity of the tool.

RESUMO

Positive body image is crucial in fostering self-esteem, mental well-being, and positive social functioning. However, our understanding of its development and role in school-aged children remains limited due to a scarcity of measures available for this age group across various countries and cultures. To bridge this gap, the aim of this study was to adapt the Body Appreciation Scale-2 for Children (BAS-2C) for Polish children aged 8-13 years. A total of 206 children completed BAS-2C to measure positive body image, the Figures Rating Scale to measure body satisfaction, and the Self-Perception Profile for Children to measure self-esteem. Parents provided information about their child's weight and height, which enabled analysis of a child's BMI. The results showed that the Polish version of BAS-2C exhibited a unidimensional factor structure, invariance across sex and age groups, and also provided evidence of very good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity. BAS-2C scores were correlated positively with Figures Rating Scale, physical appearance and global self-esteem and were related negatively to age and BMI index, and weight group. Moreover, our research indicates that in older children, there are stronger correlations between positive body image and both global and physical appearance self-esteem, compared to younger children. The Polish version of BAS-2C has excellent psychometric properties and is appropriate for use with children aged 8-13 years.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients encounter many obstacles that affect their physical and psychological well-being. The primary objective of the present study was to investigate potential correlates of optimism/pessimism in a sample of patients with CKD, including socio-demographics, body appreciation and disordered eating symptoms. As a secondary objective, we proposed to examine the psychometric properties of an Arabic translation of the Optimism-Pessimism Short Scale-2 (SOP2) before its use in our sample. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out between April and May 2023, enrolling 108 participants from three hospitals in Lebanon providing insights into their sociodemographic characteristics, physical activity levels, body appreciation, optimism, pessimism, and eating attitudes. RESULTS: Results indicated that the Arabic-language adaptation of the SOP2 has good reliability coefficients. The two facets of the scale displayed a strong correlation to each other, and highly similar correlations with external study variables (i.e., household crowding index, physical activity, body appreciation, disordered eating), suggesting that the SOP2 can be interpreted as a unidimensional measure for the psychological dispositional optimism as proposed by the developers. Furthermore, findings revealed a strong positive correlation between body appreciation and optimism, suggesting that CKD patients who appreciate their bodies tend to exhibit a more optimistic outlook on life. Conversely, higher body appreciation is associated with lower pessimism, indicating that a positive body image may mitigate feelings of hopelessness and despair in CKD patients. CONCLUSION: This study contributes to the literature in two ways. First, it offers the Arabic SOP2 as an brief tool to administer, and psychometrically sound instrument that can be useful for clinical and research purposes. Second, it unveils a clear correlation between higher body appreciation and a more optimistic, less pessimistic mindset in patients with CKD.

RESUMO

The Inventory of Personality Organization-Reality Testing Subscale (IPO-RT) and Belief in Science Scale (BIS) represent indirect, proxy measures of intuitive-experiential and analytical-rational thinking. However, a limited appraisal of factorial structure exists, and assessment of person-item functioning has not occurred. This study assessed the IPO-RT and BIS using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch analysis with a sample of 1030 participants (465 males, 565 females). Correlation analysis revealed a negative, moderate relationship between the measures. CFA supported a bifactorial model of the IPO-RT with four bifactors (Auditory and Visual Hallucinations, Delusional Thinking, Social Deficits, and Confusion). A one-factor model best fitted the BIS. Satisfactory item/person reliability and unidimensionality was observed for both measures using Rasch analysis, and items generally exhibited gender invariance. However, IPO-RT items were challenging, whereas BIS items were relatively easy to endorse. Overall, results indicated that the IPO-RT and BIS are conceptually sound, indirect indices of intuitive-experiential and analytical-rational thinking. Acknowledging the breadth of these thinking styles, a useful future research focus includes evaluating the performance of IPO-RT and BIS alongside objective tests.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Australian Interprofessional Socialisation and Valuing Scale (ISVS)-21 and provide an invariant measure for health practitioners and students to assess interprofessional socialisation. METHODS: The COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) were used as guidelines. This research began with a key step: conducting a pilot study to assess content validity, a requirement of COSMIN for item development. The ISVS-21 has not yet been validated in Australia. Content validity checks ensure the developed items accurately represent the measured construct in the intended cultural context. In addition to conducting more comprehensive tests of psychometric properties compared to previous studies on ISVS-21, this paper introduces something new by evaluating the internal structure of the instrument involving measurement invariance and hypothesis testing for construct validity based on several assumptions related to interprofessional socialisation and values. An invariant measure validates the use of the Australian ISVS-21 on practitioner and student equivalently, allowing the comparison of outcomes at both levels. RESULTS: The evaluation of content validity indicated that the items were relevant, comprehensible (practitioners and students had an agreement score of >70% for all 21 items), and comprehensive to the concepts intended to be measured. Structural validity confirms ISVS-21 Australia as unidimensional, with good internal consistency reliabilities, Cronbach's α scores = 0.96 (practitioner) and 0.96 (student). Measurement invariance tests confirm ISVS-21 Australia is configural, metric and scalar invariance (ΔCFI ≤ 0.01) across the tested groups of practitioner and student, and therefore suitable for use by both cohorts in Australia. Age and length of work/study were discriminant factors for interprofessional socialisation in both cohorts; the professional background was a differentiating factor for practitioners but not for students. Hypotheses testing results support the COSMIN construct validity requirement for the measure, with 83.3% of assumptions tested accepted. CONCLUSION: The Australian ISVS has good psychometric properties based on evaluating the content validity, internal structure, and hypotheses testing for construct validity. In addition, Australian ISVS is an invariant measure for use by health practitioners and students and, therefore, confirmed as a quality measure to assess interprofessional socialisation for both cohorts in Australia.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Benefit finding (BF) is correlated with mental health and recovery, and its presence will contribute to the recovery of patients with mental disorders. Most of the current tools for assessing BF in patients with somatic disorders are not adequate for patients with mental disorders. The present study proposes to introduce the Benefit Finding Questionnaire for People with Mental Disorders and to validate its psychometric properties. METHODS: The Beaton translation model was used to translate and cross-culturally adjust the Japanese version of the Benefit Finding Questionnaire for People with Mental Disorders. A survey of 514 people with mental disorders was conducted from January 2022 to October 2022 using a general information questionnaire and a translated Chinese version of the Benefit Finding Questionnaire for People with Mental Disorders (BFQ-C) using a convenience sampling method. The quality of the questionnaire was examined in terms of item analysis, reliability, and validity. RESULTS: The results of the item analysis showed that all items met the requirements. The interrater agreement of the BFQ-C was good, with an interrater agreement = 0.714; the values of the item-level content validity index ranged from 0.75 to 1.00; and the average of all item-level content validity index on the scale = 0.958. Exploratory factor analysis extracted three main factors "change in relationship with others," "change in spirituality," and "change in values and thinking styles"-and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 57.70%. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis were χ2/df of 2.194, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation of 0.075, and comparative fit index of 0.919, indicating that the model fitted well. The questionnaire had a Cronbach' alpha of 0.936, a split reliability of 0.956, and a retest reliability of 0.939. CONCLUSION: The BFQ-C demonstrated good reliability and validity, and can be used to assess the BF level of people with mental disorders (e.g., anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders) in China.

RESUMO

The measures implemented to contain the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in both behavioral and lifestyle changes. The "Changes in Lifestyle-Related Behavior" instrument was developed to assess lifestyle-related behaviors in the Indian population. However, considering current knowledge, this instrument was not adapted for the Brazilian population. In addition, the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and consumption of dietary supplements has not yet been evaluated. Thus, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the use of dietary supplements with lifestyle behavior and the fear of COVID-19, as well as assess the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the "Changes in Lifestyle-Related Behavior" instrument. An online questionnaire assessed sociodemographic, occupational, anthropometric, physical activity (International Physical Activity Questionnaire-short form), fear of COVID-19, and lifestyle behavior data from 416 Brazilian adults (237 females; 18-60y). Mann-Whitney, Chi-square test, exploratory, and confirmatory analyses were applied. Exploratory and confirmatory analyses showed a satisfactory adequacy level of the questionnaire (CMIN/DF = 2.689; Cronbach's α = 0.60) with 5 domains ('Bad eating behavior'; 'Healthy eating'; 'Sleep quality'; 'Interest in cooking'; 'Number of portions and meals'). Lower fear of COVID-19 scores and higher levels of physical activity were found in participants who reported previous dietary supplement intake during the pandemic; in addition, the group that did not ingest dietary supplements reported greater changes in stress and anxiety levels during the pandemic (p<0.05). The intake of dietary supplements before the pandemic was associated with greater energy expenditure and better coping with the fear of COVID-19 during the pandemic. Additionally, the Changes in Lifestyle-Related Behavior tool can be used to assess lifestyle-related variables during the pandemic.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The Neurological Fatigue Index (NFI) is the instrument used to evaluate stroke patients' fatigue. There was no Urdu version of NFI available officially. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to translate the Neurological Fatigue Index into Urdu and to determine the validity and reliability of Urdu NFI among stroke patients. METHODOLOGY: It is a cross-cultural validation study. According to international guidelines in phase I, a process of translation was carried out. In phase II, using the sample of 120 participants, validity and reliability of the Urdu version of the Neurological Fatigue Index scale was conducted. The Urdu version's content validity, convergent/concurrent validity, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency were determined. The latest version of SPSS was used for the data analysis. RESULTS: The Urdu version of NFI was drafted after the expert's review. The content validity index was used to analyze the content validity. The reliability and validity of the Urdu version NFI were evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.86), and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC = 0.823). Correlations with other scales were the fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) (r = 0.76), Mental Fatigue Scale (MFS) (r = 0.68), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) (r = 0.53) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) (r = 0.47). CONCLUSION: The Urdu Version was linguistically acceptable for the fatigue assessment in post-stroke patients. It showed good content validity, convergent/concurrent validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability.

RESUMO

As health systems transition to ICD-11, it is essential to gauge the readiness and improve existing transition efforts. Assessing the intention to use ICD-11 and factors influencing it is imperative to encourage the use of ICD-11 among the medical record officers (MROs) and assistant medical record officers (AMROs). This study aims to develop and validate a questionnaire on the factors influencing the intention to use ICD-11 among MROs and AMROs in the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. This study comprised a questionnaire development and validation involving 292 participants nationwide from Ministry of Health Malaysia facilities. The questionnaire was developed based on items adapted from the literature. Forward and backward English-Malay translation was done. Then, the questionnaire was examined for content validity, internal consistency reliability, construct validity, face validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity and confirmatory factor analyses. The final version of the questionnaire consists of eleven domains represented by 50 items. The content validity index and modified kappa were excellent for all domains. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin sampling adequacy value was appropriate, with a value of 0.790. The questionnaire also demonstrated good internal consistency reliability with Cronbach's alpha values between 0.850 and 0.992. Confirmatory factor analysis showed a reasonable fit for this eleven-factor model. In conclusion, this questionnaire provides a reliable tool for investigating the intention to use ICD-11 among MROs and AMROs. Positive findings from the psychometric properties support the validity of the questionnaire. This instrument can potentially support personnel in charge of ICD codification, guide the ICD-11 transition at various levels and facilitate research on support dynamics among the MROs and AMROs.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this research was to develop the Satisfaction Concerning Stoma Care Questionnaire (SSCQ) and evaluate its structural and convergent validity and internal reliability. DESIGN: Instrument development and evaluation of validity and reliability. SUBJECTS AND SETTING: A preliminary 22-item SSCQ was administered in a larger web-based survey to members of 2 ostomy-related patient associations with members throughout the Netherlands. The data of patients who underwent surgery within 2 years were selected for analysis. METHODS: The development of the SSCQ was informed by a preexisting survey that focused on the experiences of stoma patients with general health care. Structural validity and homogeneity of the SSCQ were assessed using explanatory factor analysis and Cronbach's α coefficients. Convergent validity was also evaluated. RESULTS: The final SSCQ comprised 20 items covering 3 domains: "preoperative care and information," "postoperative care and guidance," and "contact with and ostomy nurse." The SSCQ demonstrated structural and convergent validity and internal reliability. The Cronbach's α value of the SSCQ was 0.95, whereas the independent domains retrieved a high α coefficient ranging from 0.90 to 0.93. The SSCQ and independent domains were able to distinguish between high and low patients' ratings for satisfaction concerning the received stoma care. CONCLUSIONS: The SSCQ demonstrated structural and convergent reliability, along with internal consistency. It may be used to measure the satisfaction of patients with ostomies concerning stoma care. Future prospective studies using the SSCQ are needed to generate additional insights into providing optimal care for ostomy patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Poor adherence to treatment among patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) hinders the effective use of antidiabetic agents and the achievement of optimal glycemic control, reducing their quality of life and outcomes. Assessing adherence to treatment using a questionnaire can help identify and eliminate factors and barriers that negatively affect adherence to medical recommendations and satisfaction with treatment. AIM: To conduct linguistic and cultural adaptation of the 12-item Medication Adherence Scale (MAS-12) questionnaire and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Russian version of the MAS-12 questionnaire among patients suffering from T1DM and T2DM. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A survey of 198 patients with T1DM and T2DM was carried out, including self-completion of the MAS-12 questionnaire in Russian. Average age: 47.1±18.62 years, proportion of women - 76%. Average duration of the disease: 13.08±10.05 years. The construct validity of the MAS-12 questionnaire was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis. As an external criterion for assessing convergent validity, the KOP-25 method was used - the Russian Questionnaire for Quantitative Assessment of Treatment Adherence (KOP-25). Reliability of the MAS-12 was assessed using Cronbach's α internal consistency and participant retest after 1 to 4 months. RESULTS: The factor structure of the MAS-12 questionnaire is reproduced for the first time on a Russian sample of patients with diabetes. Recommended fit indicators for the measurement model (CFI=0.983, RMSEA=0.049, TLI=0.968) were achieved by excluding two items (9 and 12) that did not demonstrate statistically significant contributions to their respective subscales. The internal consistency of the subscales (α ϵ [0.522; 0.857]) and the questionnaire as a whole (α=0.766) was assessed as sufficient. Significant correlations of the adapted methodology and its subscales with the scales of the KOP-25 questionnaire were obtained. The closest connections (r ϵ [0.333; 0.431], p<0.010) are observed with the COP-25 scales related to drug therapy, which indicates good external validity of the adapted methodology. CONCLUSION: The Russian version of the MAS-12 questionnaire "Questionnaire for assessing adherence to medication treatment" (PML-10), consisting of 10 questions, has good psychometric properties, is a valid and reliable tool for assessing medication adherence among patients with T1DM and T2DM and can be recommended for use in clinical practice, including for monitoring treatment adherence in Russia.

RESUMO

Early numeracy skills are considered essential predictors for later mathematical and educational achievement. Therefore, there is a need for early numeracy measures with psychometrically sound properties. This systematic review aimed to determine the content validity of all current early numeracy measures in accordance with the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) framework and methodological guidelines, and was conducted and reported by following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 statement and checklist. Systematic literature searches were conducted in January 2024 in five electronic databases: CINAHL, Embase, Eric, PsycINFO, and PubMed. Eligible measures assessed numeracy, targeted children up to eight years of age, were published in English in 1995 or later, and had psychometric data on measure dimensionality. Eligible psychometric reports that were published in English described instrument development and/or content validity of included measures. The measures' methodological quality was assessed using the COSMIN Risk of Bias checklist, after which all three aspects of content validity (i.e., relevance, comprehensiveness and comprehensibility) were evaluated. Six early numeracy measures and eleven psychometric reports were included. None of the measures could be recommended for use in clinical practice, education, or research due to a lack of high-quality evidence on content validity. However, no high-quality evidence was found to indicate insufficient content validity, therefore, all measures still have the potential to be used. Limited access to measures in the domain of early numeracy, despite having contacted both publishers and instrument developers, may have negatively impacted the completeness of the current overview of content validity of early numeracy measures. In line with the COSMIN guidelines, after the initial evaluation of content validity, future studies should evaluate the remaining psychometric properties of the included measures to identify the most robust measures in terms of validity, reliability, and responsiveness.

RESUMO

Self-regulation, which encompasses cognitive, behavioural, and emotional domains, poses challenges in consistent measurement due to diverse definitions and conceptual complexities. In recognition of its profound impact on long-term mental health and wellbeing in children, this systematic review examined available self-regulation measures for children and young people between 1 and 18 years of age. The systematic review followed the COSMIN taxonomy and reported on the measurement tools' characteristics and psychometric properties. The methodology and reporting were guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement and checklist. The protocol for this review was registered with PROSPERO (Number CRD42020155809). A search of six databases (Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Scopus, CINAHL and ERIC) was performed, and grey literature was searched to identify studies on the psychometric properties of measures assessing all three domains (cognitive, behavioural, and emotional) of self-regulation. The types of psychometric properties were examined against the COSMIN taxonomy of measurement properties. A total of 15,583 studies were identified, and 48 of these met the criteria that reported psychometric properties of 23 self-regulation measures assessing all three domains of self-regulation. Most measures relied on self-reports for ages 11-17, and all had limited psychometric evaluation. The Emotion Regulation Checklist was the most studied measure. Notably, none of the studies evaluated measurement error. The content validity was inadequately evaluated, particularly in terms of comprehensiveness and comprehensibility. Future research should focus on developing measures for young children, evaluating measurement error, and enhancing content validity for comprehensive understanding and effective intervention.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Application of developmental assets, one of existing Positive Youth Development (PYD) frameworks, has gained momentum in research, policy formulations, and interventions, necessitating the introduction of the most efficient scales for this framework. The present study protocol aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of developmental assets scales to document the underlying logic, objectives, and methodologies earmarked for the identification, selection, and critical evaluation of these scales. METHODS AND MATERIALS: In accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P), the intended search will encompass databases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Knowledge, and PsycINFO, spanning from the inception of 1988 to 1st of April 2024. The review will include articles published published in English language focusing on individuals aged 10 to 29 years and reporting at least one type of reliability or validity of developmental assets scales. The review process will be in compliance with the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN), and the overall quality of evidence will be determined using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) guidelines. DISCUSSION: This comprehensive assessment aims to identify potential biases in prior research and offer guidance to scholars regarding the optimal scales for developmental assets in terms of validity, reliability, responsiveness, and interpretability The evidence-based appraisal of the scales strengths and limitations is imperative in shaping future research, enhancing their methodological rigor, and proposing refinements to existing instruments for developmental assets.

RESUMO

AIM: To translate the Empowerment Scale for Pregnant Women (ESPW) into Chinese and to assess its linguistic validity. METHODS: The integrative method of the translation process, the Delphi technique, and cognitive interviews were used to implement cross-cultural adaptation and enhance comprehensibility and linguistic validation. This study recruited 14 experts in the expert review and cognitively reviewed 15 pregnant women. RESULTS: The two-round Delphi method created agreement on cultural applicability. The results of content validity achieved good levels: The item-level content validity index (CVI) ranged from 0.78 to 1.00, and the scale-level content validity index, calculated using two different formulas, were 0.97 and 0.81, respectively. Kappa values ranged from 0.74 to 1.00. Pregnant women could understand most of the items and response options in the cognitive interview. The revisions to the wording were made based on suggestions from experts and pregnant women. CONCLUSION: The prefinal simplified Chinese ESPW was semantically and conceptually equivalent to the English version, which was well prepared for further psychometric tests in the next stage of cross-cultural adaptation. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: This comprehensive method successfully developed a Chinese tool to measure the empowerment of pregnant women, indicating the international applicability of this tool and the methodological scientific nature. The simplified Chinese ESPW has the potential to support the identification of empowerment levels of pregnant women and the evaluation of the effectiveness of health education and promotion programmes.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We developed a proxy questionnaire for parents of children with Developmental Delay (DD) to provide comprehensive information for instructors about the child's functioning before participating in aquatic activities. This dedicated information will enable a high-quality treatment plan to promote the child's functioning in everyday life. METHODS: Based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) Coreset development and linking rules method, a set of questions was constructed in a preliminary process. A draft version was sent to instructors and parents in Israel. Seventy-five questionnaires from instructors and 25 from parents returned to the statistical analysis procedure. Reliability and face validity were analyzed by experts. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The questionnaire showed high validity and reliability for its purposes and allowed self-completion by the parents.
