Introduction:Nursing supervision plays a fundamental role in the implementation of directed learning strategies that improve the job performance of professionals, thus ensuring quality care. Objective: To evaluatethe relationship between supervision through directedlearning and nursing job performance. Methodology: quantitative study with a descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional, cross-sectional design in the emergency department of a National Health Institute in Mexico City, from March to May 2022. The universe was made up of nursing professionals from the National Instituteof Nutrition, the sample was 90professionals selected by simple random sampling. An instrument was used to measure job performance and supervision through a Likert-type scale ranging fromnever to always, classifying the variables into three categories: low level, medium level and high level. Results: there is a directly proportional correlation between supervision through directed learning and job performance, i.e. a medium level of the instrument category, the higher the supervision the higher the job performance; as well as, when there is more training, communication, programmed supervision, there is higher job performance. Conclusions: The results show that by promoting the implementation of the supervision process through the directed learning model, it is possible to enhance the work performance of nursing professionals. Likewise, the professional's work performance benefits from supervision strategies such as: continuous training, effective communication, feedback and programmed supervision

RESUMO

Abstract The objectives of this study were to describe work characteristics of Iraqi pharmacists, to compare pharmacist job satisfaction between private and public sectors and to assess factors influencing job satisfaction level. This cross-sectional study of pharmacists, their work sites and work satisfactions used an electronic questionnaire that was posted on Facebook pharmacy professional group from June to September 2018. The participants included pharmacists from all 18 Iraqi provinces. We used multiple linear regression to identify predictors of general job satisfaction among 13 pharmacist characteristics. We received 658 usable surveys. Approximately half (47.24%) of respondents indicated dissatisfaction with their primary workplace. Job performance, patient contact, satisfaction with manager, income and expectation satisfactions were significantly related with work satisfaction. Pharmacists working in the private sector had significantly more control over their workplace and higher satisfaction with manager, income and general satisfactions compared to those working in public sector. Pharmacists work in diverse settings across the public healthcare system, community pharmacies, private drug bureaus and academia. About half of them are dissatisfied with their primary workplace. The private sector has more satisfaction rate compared to the public sector. Thus, officials need to improve job environments in the public sector.

RESUMO

This study evaluates the physical activity level at work and leisure time of white-collar and two groups of blue-collar workers from the latex glove industry and the association of physical activity level and musculoskeletal complains and work ability. The workers' sociodemographic and behavioral health characteristics, work ability index, musculoskeletal complains, total step count and caloric expenditure for three consecutive days, were assessed. The blue-collar workers that move most from the workstation (longD) were more physically active at work compared to white-collar and blue-collar that moved close the workstation (shortD). But in leisure-time the result is reversed, white-collar and blue-collar groups were significantly more active. There was no association between physical activity level and musculoskeletal pain intensity and work ability. All the groups of workers exhibited satisfactory physical activity levels, but only blue-collar (longD) were more physically active (10,000 steps per day).

RESUMO

Objective The aim of this study was to measure presenteeism (productivity impairment while the patient is at work) and the related risk factors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) from Argentina. Methods A total of 130 consecutive (1997 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria) working patients with SLE were assessed using a standardized data collection form. Sociodemographic, disease and work-related variables were collected. The Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire was performed. Results Overall, 130 patients were included in the analysis; 91% were women, and the mean age was 39 years (range 19-77). A total of 43% were White, 43% Mestizo and 13% Amerindian. Overall, 38% were single and 38% were married. A total of 75% had more than 12 years of formal education. The median disease duration was 7 years (interquartile range 25-75 (IQR) 4-13). Median Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) score was 0 (IQR 0-2), and median Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/ACR Damage Index (SLICC-SDI) score was 0 (IQR 0-1). Lupus quality of life (LupusQoL) domains scores were: physical health 87 (IQR 70-96), emotional health 78 (IQR 54-91), burden to others 75 (IQR 50-92), intimate relationships 87 (IQR 50-100), and body image 85 (IQR 70-100). Absenteeism was 8%, presenteeism was 19%, and overall work impairment (absenteeism + presenteeism) was 26%. In the multiple regression analysis, considering presenteeism as dependent variable, (adjusting by age, disease duration, >12 years of education, Non-white race, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain, VAS fatigue, SLICC-SDI, LupusQoL, physical and emotional domains), we found that SLICC-SDI (odds ratio (OR) 1.68, confidence interval (CI) 1-2.7) and Non-white race (OR 3.27, CI 1.04-10) were related to presenteeism and >12 years of education (OR 0.30, CI 0.09-0.98) and higher scores of LupusQoL emotional health domain (OR 0.95, CI 0.92-0.98) were protective. Conclusions organ damage and Non-white race were significantly associated with presenteeism while >12 years of education and higher scores of LupusQoL emotional health domain were protective.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To estimate productivity losses due to absenteeism and presenteeism and their determinants in patients with depression from five Colombian cities. METHODS: We used data from a multicenter, mixed-methods study of adult patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder or double depression (major depressive disorder plus dysthymia) during 2010. The World Health Organization's Health and Work Performance Questionnaire was used to assess absenteeism and presenteeism. We explored the determinants of productivity losses using a two-part model. We also used a costing model to calculate the corresponding monetary losses. RESULTS: We analyzed data from 107 patients employed in the last 4 weeks. Absenteeism was reported by 70% of patients; presenteeism was reported by all but one. Half of the patients reported a level of performance at work at least 50% below usual. Average number of hours per month lost to absenteeism and presenteeism was 43 and 51, respectively. The probability of any absenteeism was 17 percentage points lower in patients rating their mental health favorably compared with those rating it poorly (standard error [SE] 0.09; P < 0.10) and 19 percentage points higher in patients with at least one comorbidity compared with patients with none (SE 0.10; P < 0.10). All other covariates showed no significant associations on hours lost to absenteeism. Patients with favorable mental health self-ratings had 16.4 fewer hours per month of presenteeism compared with those with poor self-ratings (SE 4.52; P < 0.01). The 2015 monetary value of productivity losses amounted to US $840 million. CONCLUSIONS: This study in a middle-income country confirms the high economic burden of depression. Health policies and workplace interventions ensuring adequate diagnosis and treatment of depression are recommended.

RESUMO

Depression and anxiety are highly prevalent disorders with an impact on existential aspects of person's life, including employment i.e., work performance (WP). In order to develop appropriate strategies, it is essential to identify determinants of WP. The objective of this study was to identify the built, social, attitudinal and health system-related environmental determinants of WP in workers with anxiety or depression in total (N = 1211) and regarding the level of disability. Hierarchical binary logistic regression was performed on data obtained from implementation of the WHO Model Disability Survey (MDS) in Chile in 2015. Hindering aspects of means of transportation and workplace, and the use of personal assistance were determinants of WP for all workers with anxiety or depression. Results differed with level of disability. Hindering aspects of means of transportation and workplace, and discrimination were determinants of WP for persons with mild to moderate disability, while hindering aspects of the workplace and dwelling, and the use of personal assistance were determinants of WP for persons with severe disability. Our results emphasize the need for a broader understanding of determinants of WP and the requirement for an integrative approach in developing both universal and specific strategies that go beyond workplace settings.

THE OBJECTIVE of the study is to compare the most frequent hypothesis in economic literature on productivity and wages of skilled labor in Chile. This is analyzed and evaluated the long-term relationship between the variables productivity and wages for skilled labor, using time series comprising 1990-2009. The results show stationarity of waste, which means that the variables are not cointegrated. As can be concluded that there is no empirical evidence for the case of Chile, for long-term relationships between the variables studied, although a significant increase in the income gap between skilled workers and those that are not observed.
