ABSTRACT Movements of the psychoanalytic clinical practice in its possible plasticity will be considered here, from new ways of working beyond the physical face-to-face setting, brought by the 2020 pandemic. The transit between different types of communication will be discussed, as well as the intensification of the development of associativity, the living presence of a repertoire in constitution as a "body-wrap" of the bond and the participation of those involved in the reconstruction of the clinical scene as an essential resource for working with psychic suffering, when our own sense of continuity and integration is challenged by the unexpected rupture of the usual framework.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the social distancing required to combat it have set in motion an experiment in psychoanalytic education of unprecedented scope. Following an abrupt shift from in-person study to remote classes, supervision, clinical work, and training analyses, the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research polled its psychotherapy and psychoanalysis trainees to assess their initial experience of remote training. Most candidates found the technical aspects of online learning easy and were satisfied with remote training overall. Across all programs, most trainees considered class length and reading load about right and felt their class participation was unaffected, though they found it harder to concentrate. Most found it no harder to start a training case, felt the shift to remote supervision had no negative effect, and were satisfied with seeing their training analyst remotely. Most trainees preferred in-person classes, clinical work, and training analyses to those offered remotely, yet in light of the health risks they said they were less likely to continue training in fall 2020 if in-person work resumed. Trainees suggested several modifications of teaching techniques to improve their participation and concentration in class. These findings' implications for the debate regarding remote training in psychoanalysis are explored.

RESUMO

Ideas about psychoanalysis via videoconference-videoconference teleanalysis (VT)-are presented with the general understanding that these settings produce a twofold split between various degrees of recognition/negativisation of the absence of the other, on one hand, and the expectation of physical co-presence, on the other. This split has been put forward as dismantling the here, now, with me pre-reflexive unity of the analytic experience. This article suggests that both members of the analytic dyad will seek to reappropriate the experience through a forced ego integration that interferes with accessing states of unintegration in the analytic treatment and produces subtle alterations to symbolisation work. The effort to overcome this condition is illustrated with clinical vignettes and therapists' comments about feelings of inauthenticity and discontent when trying to sustain evenly-suspended attention, as well as in the perception of a form of flattening of the alive nature of speech. However, this is not a constant for all VT, and mutual understanding can be an important mitigating feature. The focus of the discussion should be on the capacity of the analytic dyad to overcome such a split and not on a direct extrapolation of the perceptual limitations of VT to possible effects on transference / countertransference.

The author approaches hypermodernity issues, mainly the impact of new technologies on the psychic life and relationships of the individual, and the irreversible reflection of these changes on the psychoanalytical practice. She also provides information about the teletherapies and teleanalysis, modality for virtual treatment in rapid expansion, and directly related to globalization and the neonomadism of the hypermodern individual. At last, she discusses wether psychoanalysis needs to adjust to the new times and the great challenge involved in this task, because the current Zeitgeist is very slightly syntonic with the slow, deep, profound - and frequently painful – reflection proposals offered by the psychoanalytical practice.
