Abstract The relationship between coach and athlete has been identified as a key factor for several positive outcomes in the sports context. Thus, the aims of this study were to analyze the association between the quality of the coach-athlete relation ship (CAR) and the perception of team cohesion of youth athletes. Participants were 301 athletes, aged 15 to 17 years, who participated in the School Games of Pernambuco, Brazil. The instruments used were the Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (CART-Q) and the Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ). Data analysis was conducted through the Structural Equation Modeling (p< .05). The results showed that the quality of CAR showed a significant association (p<.05) with team cohesion, explaining 25% of the variance of task cohesion and 15% of social cohesion. Specifically, the effect of CAR on task (β = 0.50) and social (β = 0.39) cohesion was significant (p<.05) and positive. It was concluded that the quality of CAR is a key factor for the engagement of the adolescent with the teamwork and its goals as well as for the de velopment of positive interpersonal relationships.

Communicative complexity relates to social complexity, as individuals in more complex social systems either use more signals or more complex signals than individuals living in less complex ones. Taking the individual group member's perspective, here we examine communicative complexity in relation to social complexity, which arises from two components of social systems: social structure and social organization. We review the concepts of social relationships and social complexity and evaluate their implications for communicative and cognitive complexity using examples from primate species. We focus on spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi), as their social organization is characterized by flexibility in grouping dynamics and they use a variety of communicative signals. We conclude that no simple relationship exists among social complexity, communicative complexity and cognitive complexity, with social complexity not necessarily implying cognitive complexity, and communicative and cognitive complexity being independently linked to social complexity. To better understand the commonly implied link between social complexity and cognitive complexity it is crucial to recognize the complementary role of communicative complexity. A more elaborated communicative toolkit provides the needed flexibility to deal with dynamic and multifaceted social relationships and high variation in fission-fusion dynamics. This article is part of the theme issue 'Cognition, communication and social bonds in primates'.

RESUMO

Background: Lifestyle Medicine (LM) aims to address six main behavioral domains: diet/nutrition, substance use (SU), physical activity (PA), social relationships, stress management, and sleep. Digital Health Interventions (DHIs) have been used to improve these domains. However, there is no consensus on how to measure lifestyle and its intermediate outcomes aside from measuring each behavior separately. We aimed to describe (1) the most frequent lifestyle domains addressed by DHIs, (2) the most frequent outcomes used to measure lifestyle changes, and (3) the most frequent DHI delivery methods. Methods: We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA-ScR) Extension for Scoping Reviews. A literature search was conducted using MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Web of Science for publications since 2010. We included systematic reviews and meta-analyses of clinical trials using DHI to promote health, behavioral, or lifestyle change. Results: Overall, 954 records were identified, and 72 systematic reviews were included. Of those, 35 conducted meta-analyses, 58 addressed diet/nutrition, and 60 focused on PA. Only one systematic review evaluated all six lifestyle domains simultaneously; 1 systematic review evaluated five lifestyle domains; 5 systematic reviews evaluated 4 lifestyle domains; 14 systematic reviews evaluated 3 lifestyle domains; and the remaining 52 systematic reviews evaluated only one or two domains. The most frequently evaluated domains were diet/nutrition and PA. The most frequent DHI delivery methods were smartphone apps and websites. Discussion: The concept of lifestyle is still unclear and fragmented, making it hard to evaluate the complex interconnections of unhealthy behaviors, and their impact on health. Clarifying this concept, refining its operationalization, and defining the reporting guidelines should be considered as the current research priorities. DHIs have the potential to improve lifestyle at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of prevention-but most of them are targeting clinical populations. Although important advances have been made to evaluate DHIs, some of their characteristics, such as the rate at which they become obsolete, will require innovative research designs to evaluate long-term outcomes in health.

Adolescence constitutes a critical step on the development of each individual characterized as a period of risks, problems and conflicts. Due the fact that in this period the subject starts to take a larger number of decisions and chooses among different alternatives, it is also considered the fact that many behavior standards acquired during adolescence among some health problems may last for the hole life; it turns to be essential to know the health behavior of the adolescents and the lack of satisfaction on the prevention way to avoid an undesirable future. The study investigated, through the appliance of two questionnaires sent to students and their parents, psychosocial aspects of 720 adolescents (252 boys and 468 girls) from 16 to 17 years old from public schools of Florianopolis/SC. Differences among the studied groups through the Parson's qui-squared test revealed that girls presented more sleep, headache and anguish problems than boys. Great part of the subjects considered their health as good and they are satisfied with life, with feeding and physical activities compared to girls. However, related to sexuality, girls appeared to be more satisfied than boys. It points out the importance of more studies evaluating the psychosocial aspects of adolescents as a way to identify deviances lines and problems that may bring future consequences at the adult age.(AU)

The Network of Meanings (RedSig) takes social relationship in a dialogical perspective. It is a construction which is mediated by people, environment and contents of socio-historical matrix - such as the social values that integrates the social cognition. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the presence of social values in the process of construction of infant-caregiver affective relationship. The participants were two caregivers and four mothers with their babies four to nine months old. A total of 60 interviews were carried out with the adults along the first three months of the babies' attendance at a day-care centre. Some reports were constructed upon discourses which carried on social values about child care, infant-mother affective relationship, the social role of caregiver and babies feeding. Other people partake in the process through the discourse of mothers and caregivers. © Ciências & Cognição 2006; Vol. 07: 42-48.(AU)
