RESUMO

The first International Conference on Unconventional Animal Models of Alzheimer's Disease and Aging (UAMAA) took place on December 13-16, 2023, in Santiago, Chile. The Alzheimer's disease (AD) research field is currently in search for new and unconventional models that could hold greater translational potential than transgenic mouse models. Thus this UAMAA conference is timely and significant. The event consisted of 6 sessions with talks from 28 world-class scientists from all over the world. These animal models of interest include the degu (Octodon degu), the dog (Canis familiaris), and certain species of nonhuman primates that may better recapitulate neuropathology and cognitive impairments in human AD. Our conference has provided a formal forum to discuss and highlight new research directions, alternative animal models, and innovative approaches for the AD and aging research field.

RESUMO

The second Fundão Dam Rupture Science Meeting was held in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 21 and 22 September 2022. A total of 100 delegates attended the meeting, which featured high-quality oral presentations and posters over the two days and lively discussions of the science presented. The meeting resulted in nine papers being published in this special series. In the discussion, it was commented that the first meeting had been more a meeting of competitive perspectives but that the second meeting featured a more collaborative sharing of knowledge. Also, there had been substantial improvement in ways to deal with the lack of pre-event data and account for other stressors in the system, and as a result, stronger conclusions regarding the recovery rates of the system were able to be made. Importantly, there was no evidence for a feasible "time bomb" of a future catastrophic release of contaminants, but it was agreed that different scenarios continue to be researched.

Aim:To carry out a bibliometric analysis of the papers presented at the Meetings of the Brazilian Society for Dental Research (SBPqO) about Dentistry for Patients with Special Needs (DPSN). Materials and Methods:The annals published from 2013 to 2022 were accessed and the following search terms were used for data collection: "disabled", "special needs", "syndrome", "special patient", "special patients" and "people with disabilities" in all annals. The data were submitted to descriptive analysis, with the absolute and relative frequency of the analyzed variables being exposed. Results:558 abstracts were found, 230 were excluded because they did not fit the DPSNtheme, ending with 328 abstracts. Most studies were observational (n=287; 87.5%), 2019 was the year with the highest number of publications (n=51; 15.5%). The Southeast was the region with the highest number of published abstracts (n=204; 62.2%) followed by the Northeast (n=54; 16.5%), public institutions had a significant participation with more than two thirds (n= 236; 72%). Discussion:The number of jobs in the DPSNarea had been growing over the years, there was a drop in production during the pandemic, but thisnumber is growing again. Conclusion:Despite all the public policies to include care for disabled peoplein dental care and twenty years after the specialty became official in Brazil, we still do not have this category as an area in the SBPqO that is so necessary for the development of scientific knowledge in the area.

RESUMO

Changes in psychoanalytic therapy have been traditionally attributed to self-knowledge (insight) in the client, provided by the therapist's interpretations. In recent years there has been growing realization that such changes can also be the consequence of the development of new forms of relatedness through client-therapist interaction, particularly through special intersubjective moments called moments of meeting. Drawing on the methods and findings of Conversation Analysis about the sequential organization of psychotherapeutic interaction, this single-case study examines the unfolding of a moment of meeting in the final session of a brief psychoanalytic therapy in Peru (in Spanish) with a female client victim of domestic violence. Our analysis shows that the moment of meeting, which resolves a challenge to the intersubjective relationship posed by a now moment, comes about interactionally through a sequentially accomplished shared practice of co-animation. In this sequence the client, who had previously assumed a passive role, exercises her own agency to assume an active role, which the therapist ratifies through his response. In this way, a momentary but significant transformation in the here-and-now relationship between client and therapist occurs. Thus, our analysis contributes to the understanding of how a transformation of relation-the transitory emergence of a new form of relatedness-can take place in and through sequentially organized talk and action in psychotherapy. Our study also sheds light on the role of language in moments of meeting, as the moment of meeting in our segment does not occur in parallel with the exchange of linguistic utterances between client and therapist, but through the exchange of such linguistic utterances and through the sequence of actions carried out by that exchange. In this way, the sequential doing-together with words leads to a moment of meeting, bringing about change, at least momentarily, in the implicit ways-of-being-with-others of the client.

Abstract Introduction: only a few articles submitted to the Argentine Congress of Rheumatology (ACOR) are published. Objectives: to analyse the topics of study (TOS) and the publication rate of articles on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) submitted to the ACOR. Materials and methods: every abstract submitted to the ACOR between 2008 and 2017, whose primary research subject was RA, was analyzed and sorted according to TOS. Repeated TOS, defined as at least two similar studies on the same topic, were identified. The publication rate and the number of similar studies according to TOS, participating centers, and patients were determined. Results: out of 346 articles submitted, 51 (14.7%) were published. Fourteen (11.9%) of the 118 studies on repeated TOS were published vs. 37 (16.2%) of the rest of the TOS (p: 0.4). The articles on repeated TOS neither included more patients nor involved a higher number of centers. Thirteen repeated TOS with at least three similar studies, but no published articles were identified. Conclusions: only a few articles on RA were published. One third of the studies submitted to the ACOR are repeated TOS, a fact that does not improve the publication rate.

RESUMO

In this article, we present an agile method based on a cycle of meetings that guides the construction of intelligent decision support systems. This method presents the phases of initiation, analysis and planning, negotiation, control and intelligent decision support. A cycle represents a passage through all the phases of the method, where as the execution of a phase means that all the planned meetings were held. Each meeting lasted 15 min, and input and output were composed of artifacts that supported the evolution of each meeting. In the initial phase, a meeting was held with everyone with the cards for the survey of the requirements and the construction of the 3D graph to represent the size. In IT meetings, artifacts, forms and tables were used to define the first packages. In the analysis and planning phases, the objectives by key results form were used. In the negotiation, we use the structural sets form. In the control phase, we have the configuration artifact and its control graph. Finally, in intelligent decision support, we use the essential questions form. The method serves as a guide for building intelligent decision support systems that can help with problems like determining whether or not to sign a contract.•In the initial phase, cards for requirement gathering together with a complexity graph and Board Requirements by Layers and Key Person supported the organization of development packages.•In the control phase, the input structures enabled the creation of a continuous control artifact. Furthermore, the control chart showed what is in scope and is part of ongoing control.•The intelligent decision support phase guaranteed the refinement of requirements, which brought intelligence criteria to the development packages and gave them their unique characteristics.

RESUMO

Introduction: The purpose of this retrospective bibliometric study was to assess the discrepancies between coloproctology surgery meeting abstracts and subsequent full-length manuscript publications. Methods: Abstracts presented at the Brazilian Congress of Coloproctology Surgery from 2015 to 2019 were compared with matching manuscript publications. Discrepancies between the abstract and therefore the subsequent manuscript were categorized as major (changes within the purpose, methods, study design, sample size, statistical analysis, results, and conclusions) and minor (changes within the title, authorship, and number of female authors) variations. Results: The conversion rate of abstracts in published manuscripts was 6,9% (121 abstracts). There were inconsistencies between the study title (66,1%), authorship (69,5%), study design (3,3%), sample size (39,2%), statistical analysis (24,8%), results (25,6%), and conclusions (12,4%) of manuscripts compared with their corresponding meeting abstracts. Conclusion: As changes occur before manuscript publication of coloproctology surgery meeting abstracts, caution should be exercised in referencing abstracts or altering surgical practices based on abstracts content. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the outcome of scientific abstracts submitted to the Argentine Congress of Rheumatology (ACOR) in 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015. METHODS: Every abstract submitted to the ACOR was analysed. The number of these manuscripts published was determined through Google Scholar and PubMed searches. The impact of the scientific journals was established through the SCImago Journal (SJR) indicator. RESULTS: Considering the 727 abstracts evaluated, 10.2% of the articles were found in journals indexed by Google Scholar, and 6.6% in PubMed: 4.7% were published in 2000, 9.4% in 2005, 14.6% in 2010, and 11.9% in 2015 (Log Rank test 0.008), with a statistically significant increase between 2010 and 2015 compared to 2000 (HR 3.3; 95% CI 1.5-7; p 0.002 and HR 2.9; CI 1.4-6.3; p 0.005 respectively). The median SJR of the journals was 0.46 and 67.6% had SJR available. CONCLUSIONS: The publication rate was low, and only a few articles were published in the most prestigious journals within the speciality.

RESUMO

Each year, the Brazilian Society for Virology promotes a national meeting during the second semester of the year. In October 2022, the 33rd meeting took place at Arraial da Ajuda, Porto Seguro, Bahia, in-person:.this was the first in-person meeting since 2019, as the 2020 and 2021 events occurred online due to the issues imposed by COVID-19. It was a great pleasure for the whole audience to return to an in-person event, which certainly improved the interactions between the attendees in all ways. As usual, the meeting involved massive participation of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc students, and several noteworthy international researchers were present. During five afternoons and evenings, attendees could discuss and learn about the most recent data presented by distinguished scientists from Brazil and other countries. In addition, young virology researchers from all levels could present their latest results as oral presentations and posters. The meeting covered all virology areas, with conferences and roundtables about human, veterinary, fundamental, environmental, invertebrate, and plant virology. The costs associated with attending the in-person event caused a slight reduction in the number of attendees compared to the two online events. However, even with this issue, the attendance was impressive. The meeting successfully achieved its most important goals: inspiring young and senior scientists and discussing high-quality, up-to-date virology research.

RESUMO

Men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionately affected by syphilis, HIV, and syphilis/HIV coinfection. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) prevents HIV transmission but does not impede the spread or acquisition of syphilis. Information about syphilis/HIV coinfection among MSM is scarce. We aimed to determine the prevalence of syphilis/HIV coinfection in a national sample of MSM who attend meeting places (such as movies, clubs, gay bars, saunas, shopping malls, and others referred to by the same MSM participants of the study) in Mexico to evaluate factors associated with syphilis, and to compare the prevalence rates of syphilis between the current survey and DGE data. We performed a laboratory diagnosis to determine the rates of syphilis and HIV among the included MSM. The national and regional prevalence of syphilis was calculated. HIV and coinfection prevalence were determined only for the survey. All prevalence rates included 95%CIs. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate analyses were performed. The national prevalence rates of syphilis, HIV, and coinfection were 15.2%, 10.2%, and 5.7%, respectively. The region with the highest prevalence rate was Mexico City (39.4%). The center region, minimal "goods" (i.e., a minimal number of material possessions such as a car or dryer, etc., which served as a proxy for low economic income level), use of "inhalant drugs", "HIV infection", "sexual intercourse" only with men, "rewarded sex", and "youngest age at first sexual encounter or debut" were risk factors for syphilis. In general, regional prevalence of syphilis was higher in the survey (2013) and DGE data from 2019 than in the DGE data from 2013. Similar to other countries, Mexico needs to assess elements around not only syphilis and HIV infections but also syphilis/HIV coinfection, and preventive measures focusing on MSM are needed.

RESUMO

The American Transplant Congress 2022, which took place between June 4th and June 8th of 2022, was a hybrid meeting with in-person attendance in Boston-MA and a real-time virtual experience via an online platform. First, we identified abstracts discussing machine perfusion preservation for all organs, a hot topic and approach that may develop into the new gold standard of organ preservation in the near future. A total of 39 abstracts on organ machine preservation were presented at the meeting. Next, we selected abstracts which focus on advances including new approaches to organ preservation, promising biomarkers, ex-situ treatment including cellular therapies, and novel research areas. Here, we summarized the latest developments on machine perfusion preservation in both experimental and clinical studies.

RESUMO

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of study methodology and evaluation type on the selection of studies during the presentation of scientific events. METHODS: A prospective, observational, transversal approach was applied to a cohort of studies that were submitted for presentation at the 2021 Brazilian Breast Cancer Symposium. Three forms of criteria (CR) were presented. CR1 was based on six criteria (method, ethics, design, originality, promotion, and social contribution); CR2 graded the studies from 0 to 10 for each study, and CR3 was based on five criteria (presentation, method, originality, scientific knowledge, and social contribution). To evaluate the item correlation, Cronbach's alpha and factorial analysis were performed. For the evaluation of differences between the tests, we used the Kruskal-Wallis and post-hoc Dunn tests. To determine the differences in the study classifications, we used the Friedman test and Namenyi's all-pairs comparisons. RESULTS: A total of 122 studies were evaluated. There was also a good correlation with the items concerning criterion 1 (α=0.730) and 3 (α=0.937). Evaluating CR1 methodology, study design and social contribution (p=0.741) represents the main factor and CR3 methodology, and the scientific contribution (p=0.994) represents the main factor. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed differences in the results (p<0.001) for all the criteria that were used [CR1-CR2 (p<0.001), CR1-CR3 (p<0.001), and CR2-CR3 (p=0.004)]. The Friedman test showed differences in the ranking of the studies (p<0.001) for all studies (p<0.01). CONCLUSION: Methodologies that use multiple criteria show good correlation and should be taken into account when ranking the best studies.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT Introduction: the presentation of research at a congress is an interesting means for scientific dissemination, but only with publication in an indexed journal does the data become accessible and disseminated. The conversion rate in published articles of abstracts presented at congresses is an indicator to assess the scientific quality of those events. The aim of this study is to evaluate bibliometric characteristics of abstracts presented at the Brazilian Congress of Coloproctology and to determine the factors that affect publication rates. Methods: Retrospective evaluation of all abstracts presented at the Brazilian Congresses of Coloproctology from 2015 to 2019. Multiple databases were analyzed to estimate the conversion rate of the presented papers, as well as variables associated with the conversion of abstracts into full manuscripts through bivariate analysis and multivariate variables of these predictors. Results: 1756 abstracts were analyzed. Most studies are retrospective, series or case reports, and even personal experience. The conversion rate was 6.9%. The presence of statistical analysis was twice as high for published abstracts as for unpublished ones. Conclusion: the data presented demonstrate a low scientific productivity of the specialty, since the research carried out is, for the most part, not published as complete manuscripts. The predictors of publication of abstracts were: multicenter studies, studies with statistical analysis, study designs with a higher level of evidence and studies awarded by the congress.

Introducción: Los trabajos científicos permiten divulgar, compartir y contrastar resultados a terceros.

Introduction: Scientific studies allow the disclosure, sharing and comparison of results with third parties. One of the ways to see the investigative activity of each medical specialty is through the presentations they make at scientific meetings. Aim: To describe the number of presentations of the different surgical specialties or areas in Chile in the main congress held at a national level and to assess whether the behavior was different during the years of the coronavirus pandemic. Material and Method: Bibliometric study of the Chilean Congress of Surgery between 2010 and 2021, evaluating the total number of presentations by surgical area, year of presentation and two categorized periods (2010 to 2019 and 2020 to 2021). Descriptive statistics and association analysis of publication means by area and period are performed. Results: 4,462 presentations were identified, including oral summaries, posters, videos, and residents' sessions, with a mean of 371.8 per year. Coloproctology and Gastroesophageal Surgery contributed a total of 616 (13.8%) and 598 (13.4%) respectively. The mean number of annual presentations prior to the coronavirus pandemic was 414, in contrast to the 160 annual works during it, with a significant decrease in the mean number of presentations per area from 27.6 (± 18.8) to 10.7 (± 8.69) (p < 0.001), without differences in their percentages of participation with respect to the total (p = 0.776). Conclusion: Coloproctology and Gastroesophageal Surgery are the most represented surgical areas. Although the contemporary period of the coronavirus pandemic meant a decrease in presentations, no change was observed in the percentage of participation in any particular area.

Objective: Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (OPMDs) are lesions and epithelial conditions that present an increased risk of malignancy. In this research, the aim was to identify the profile of Brazilian scientific produc-tion on DOPMs, based on a bibliometric analysis of the works presented at the Meetings of the Brazilian Dental Research Society (SBPqO). Materials and Methods: a bibliometric study was carried out, in which the annals of the annual SBPqO meetings held between 2015 and 2019 were analyzed. Abstracts about DOPMs presented in any category were included and the following information was extracted: year, study design, type of DOPM, federative unit, location and educational institution of origin. The data were analyzed using descriptive sta-tistics. Results: 91 abstracts were identified. Most were published in 2015 (24.2%) and by authors from the state of São Paulo (22%). Leukoplakia was the most frequent disorder (36.2%), followed by actinic cheilitis (35.2%). Most of the studies were authored by researchers from the Southeast (29%) and South (28%) regions. Regarding the educational institution, a large part (68.1%) came from public universities. The most frequent type of study was basic laboratory research (57.1%). Discussion: the study findings indicate that the number of researches on DOPMs presented at the SBPqO Meetings is still small, concentrated in the Southeast region and in public universities. Conclusion: conducting new research on this topic is very important, as it allows the discovery of information relevant to the health of individuals in the face of this neoplasm.

RESUMO

The Brazilian Society of Virology has been organizing annual meetings for 32 years now. The 32nd annual meeting, which occurred in 2021, was once again an online meeting in consequence of the issues imposed by COVID-19, even with the vaccination advances. As in the 2020 meeting, the number of attendees was high, with considerable participation by undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc students. Distinguished scientists from different countries offered high-quality conferences, and oral presentation sessions were presented by young scientists showing their newest research results. For almost five hours a day during five days, attendees discussed high-quality science related to all areas of virology. Even with the difficulties imposed by another pandemic year, the 32nd SBV annual meeting achieved its most important goal-to inspire young scientists and discuss high-quality virology research.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: : This study describes therapists' experience of moments of meeting with their patients in psychotherapy, and how these moments relate to the patient's change process. METHOD: 13 in-depth interviews conducted with therapists from different theoretical backgrounds were analyzed using Grounded Theory. RESULTS: Four categories were established: (1) Characteristics of moments of meeting, (2) Triggers of moments of meeting (3) Enabling conditions, and (4) Main effects of moments of meeting. A conceptual model was developed around an axial phenomenon that provides understanding on how moments of meeting contribute to the change process in psychotherapy, through the construction of shared relational knowing. DISCUSSION: : The value of moments of meeting for the therapeutic process is discussed and reflected upon, as well as their effect on changes regarding implicit relational knowing.
