RESUMO

Sturgeon, with 4 times higher lipid content than silver carp (ubiquitously applied for surimi production in China), affects surimi gelling properties. However, how the flesh lipids affect gelling properties remains unclear. This study investigated how flesh lipids impact surimi gelling properties and elucidated the interaction mechanism between lipids and proteins. Results revealed yellow meat contains 7 times higher lipids than white meat. Stronger ionic protein-protein interactions were replaced by weaker hydrophobic forces and hydrogen bonds in protein-lipid interaction. Protein-lipid interaction zones encapsulated lipid particles, changing protein structure from α-helix to ß-sheet structure thereby gel structure becomes flexible and disordered, significantly diminishing surimi gel strength. Docking analysis validated fatty acid mainly binding at Ala577, Ile461, Arg231, Phe165, His665, and His663 of myosin. This study first reported the weakened surimi gelling properties from the perspective of free fatty acids and myosin interactions, offering a theoretical basis for sturgeon surimi production.

This study assessed the effect of konjac glucomannan (KGM) on the aggregation of soy protein isolate (SPI) and its gel-related structure and properties. Raman results showed that KGM promoted the rearrangement of SPI to form more ß-sheets, contributing to the formation of an ordered structure. Atomic force microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and small-angle X-ray scattering results indicated that KGM reduced the size of SPI particles, narrowed their size distribution, and loosened the large aggregates formed by the stacking of SPI particles, improving the uniformity of gel system. As the hydrogen bonding between the KGM and SPI molecules enhanced, a well-developed network structure was obtained, further reducing the immobilized water's content (T22) and increasing the water-holding capacity (WHC) of SPI gel. Furthermore, this gel structure showed improved gel hardness and resistance to both small and large deformations. These findings facilitate the design and production of SPI-based gels with desired performance.

Gastric endoscopic mucosal resection is challenging due to the slippery mucosa, abundant blood vessels, and the presence of mucus. We developed gel immersion endoscopy to secure the visual field, even in a blood-filled gastrointestinal lumen in 2016. Clear gel with appropriate viscosity, instead of water, can prevent rapid mixture with blood and facilitate identification of the culprit vessel. We further optimized the gel for endoscopic treatment, and the resultant product, Viscoclear (Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory) was first released in Japan in 2020. The viscosity of this gel has been optimized to maximize endoscopic visibility without compromising the ease of its irrigation. The aim of this study is to clarify the effectiveness of gel immersion endoscopic mucosal resection for small-sized early gastric neoplasms. Seven lesions in seven patients were treated by gel immersion endoscopic mucosal resection. The size of all lesions was under 10 mm. The median procedure time was 4.5 min. Intraoperative bleeding occurred in four of seven lesions immediately after snare resection and was easily controlled by endoscopic hemostatic forceps during the gel immersion endoscopy. The R0 resection rate was 100%. In conclusion, gel immersion endoscopic mucosal resection may be a straightforward, rapid, and safe technique for resecting superficial gastric neoplasms <10 mm in diameter.

With the rapid evolution of electric vehicle technology, concerns regarding range anxiety and safety have become increasingly pronounced. Battery systems with high specific energy and enhanced security, featuring ternary cathodes paired with lithium (Li) metal anodes, are poised to emerge as next-generation electrochemical devices. However, the asymmetric configuration of the battery structure, characterized by the robust oxidative behavior of the ternary cathodes juxtaposed with the vigorous reductive activity of the Li metal anodes, imposes elevated requisites for the electrolytes. Herein, a well-designed gel polymer electrolyte with asymmetric structure was successfully prepared based on the Ritter reaction of cyanoethyl poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA-CN) and cationic ring-opening polymerization of s-Trioxane. With the aid of the sieving effect of separator, the in situ asymmetric gel polymer electrolyte has good compatibility with both the high-voltage cathodes and Li anodes. The amide groups generated by PVA-CN after the Ritter reaction and additional cyano groups can tolerate high voltages up to 5.1 V, matching with ternary cathodes without any challenges. The functional amide and cyano groups participate in the formation of the cathode electrolyte interface and stabilize the cathode structure. Meanwhile, the in situ formed ether-based polyformaldehyde electrolyte is beneficial for promoting uniform Li deposition on anode surfaces. Li-Li symmetric cells demonstrate sustained stability over 2000 h of cycling at a current density of 1 mA cm-2 for 1 mAh cm-2. Furthermore, the capacity retention rate of Li(Ni0.6Mn0.2Co0.2)O2-Li cells with 0.5 C cycling after 300 cycles is 92.2%, demonstrating excellent cycle stability. The electrolyte preparation strategy provides a strategy for the progress of high-performance electrolytes and promotes the rapid development of high-energy-density Li metal batteries.

This study investigates the effects of heat and ultrasonic treatments on the physicochemical parameters and rennet-induced coagulation properties of milk from a variety of species, including cow, goat, buffalo, and donkey. Milk samples were subjected to heat treatments at different temperatures (65 °C, 80 °C, 90 °C, 100 °C) and ultrasonic treatment at varying power levels (200 W, 400 W, 600 W, 800 W, 1000 W). The results revealed that changes in turbidity, particle size, zeta potential, secondary structure, and surface hydrophobicity were altered by both ultrasonic and heat treatments, as well as the kind of milk. Ultrasonic treatment of cow milk decreased α-helix content while increasing ß-turn content. Under similar ultrasonic treatment, goat milk showed a considerable increase in ß-sheet content, whereas ß-turn and random coil contents decreased compared to control samples. Notably, the water-holding capacity of gels formed from all four types of milk increased significantly with the intensity of ultrasonic and heat treatments. The hardness of buffalo milk gels increased significantly after ultrasonic and thermal treatments, ranging from 63 °C for 30 min to 90 °C for 15 min, but the hardness of cow and goat milk gels increased in varying degrees compared to their control samples. Furthermore, gels from cow and goat milk had higher storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G'') than those from buffalo and donkey milk, and changes in G' and G'' from the examined milk were altered by ultrasonic and heat treatments. These findings offer important insights into refining milk processing procedures to improve dairy product quality and usefulness.

This study developed a novel thermoreversible emulsion gel system based on high amylose maize starch (HAMS) and investigated the impact of the oil-to-water ratio on its physicochemical properties and encapsulation performance (using curcumin as model guest molecule). Electron microscopy showed a tightly porous network structure of the HAMS-based emulsion gels. Thermal results revealed a sol-gel transition occurring in the range of 59.41 to 67.64 °C for the prepared emulsion gels. Rheological analysis suggested that all samples displayed shear-thinning behavior and HAMS-based emulsion gels exhibited typical gel-like behavior with the gel strength bolstered by higher aqueous phases. Particle size analysis showed that droplet size of emulsion gel decreased from 245 to 184 nm with increased starch aqueous phase content. Texture profile analysis indicated enhanced strength, hardness, and chewiness of the emulsion gel with increased aqueous phases. Curcumin encapsulation efficiency in the HAMS-based emulsion gel also improved with higher aqueous phase content, reaching up to 93.82 %, which attributed to the smaller droplets caused increased interfacial area. The novel HAMS-based emulsion gel system showed considerable encapsulation capacity and desirable mechanical properties. It provided valuable insights into the application of starch-based emulsion gels in food and medical area.

Introduction: Fat grafting often yields inconsistent and suboptimal results, necessitating improved fat processing techniques. A stromal vascular fraction (SVF) gel created using mechanical emulsification demonstrates superior retention rates to conventional Coleman fat grafts. Methods: This study investigated the mechanisms at play by transplanting fat aspirates from liposuction patients-either processed as Coleman fat grafts or further refined into an SVF gel via mechanical shear force-onto the backs of nude mice. Results: The retention rate of the SVF gel after transplantation surpassed that observed for Coleman fat. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining and immunofluorescence results demonstrated that the SVF gel group could form new adipose tissue characterized by well-organized mature fat structures. Mechanical shear force application induced increased mesenchymal stem cell abundance. Rather than merely surviving regeneration, fat was regenerated after transplantation, and the regenerated cells were mainly from mice, which was supported by microarray analysis. RNA-seq highlighted 601 genes expressed between SVF gel and Coleman fat groups, with 164 genes upregulated (cell cycle processes), and 437 genes downregulated (lipid metabolism). Discussion: The application of mechanical shear force reduces the risk of complications and fosters cell proliferation and division, thereby enhancing the retention and regeneration of transplanted fat.

Introduction: Intrauterine adhesion (IUA), a common gynecological disease, is mainly caused by traumatic or infectious factors that lead to basal endometrial layer physiological repair disorders. IUA is mostly treated via hysteroscopic transcervical resection of adhesion and although it can restore uterine cavity shape, its endometrial repair effectiveness is limited. The figures showed that after surgery, patients with IUA have a high recurrence rate. Therefore, quick endometrial damage repair is key to successful treatment. Case presentation: A 34-year-old patient visited our hospital after experiencing amenorrhea for 4 months following an induced abortion and had a fertility requirement. Based on the American Fertility Society intrauterine scores, the patient was diagnosed with moderate IUA. She underwent transcervical resection of adhesion, followed by autologous platelet-rich gel intrauterine perfusion and periodic estrogen-progesterone treatment for three menstrual cycles. No complications developed during treatment and the patient's endometrium was significantly repaired, with successful pregnancy being achieved. Conclusion: Autologous platelet-rich gel promoted endometrial repair and acted as a mechanical barrier to prevent intrauterine adhesion. This approach May offer new insights into IUA treatment.

PURPOSE: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that poses significant challenges regarding effective and targeted drug delivery. Bioactive substances like betulin have shown tremendous utility in treating these conditions; however, they pose limited utility owing to their physicochemical characteristics. Here, we aimed to develop a novel topical dosage form for treating psoriasis, utilising betulin-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (NLCs) incorporated into a hydrogel matrix. METHODS: The optimization of the formulation was meticulously conducted using a design of experiments methodology, and its diverse physicochemical attributes were thoroughly examined. Evaluating betulin's in vitro release pattern from the NLC-hydrogel demonstrated consistent and regulated drug release properties. Additionally, the formulation demonstrated improved skin penetration abilities as determined by in vitro skin permeation experiments employing Franz diffusion cells- furthermore, the therapeutic effectiveness of the betulin-NLC-hydrogel was assessed by an in vivo experiment carried out using an imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation model in BALB/c female mice. RESULTS: The NLCs exhibited a pH of 5.67±0.86, particle size of 148.16±12.66 nm, and zeta potential of -22.84±2.37 mV, ensuring stability and suitability for topical use. The gel, with a pH of 6.05±0.43 and viscosity of 17550±120 cPs, showed enhanced skin hydration and lipid restoration. Drug release studies indicated a slower release from NLCs and gel, improving skin retention. Stability tests revealed that the formulations were stable at room temperature but not at elevated temperatures. The in vitro safety profile of the formulation revealed no significant adverse effects on HaCaT cell lines. The NLC gel demonstrated significant anti-psoriatic activity, reducing inflammation and cytokine levels. CONCLUSION: The betulin-NLC-hydrogel formulation exhibited promising characteristics for the topical treatment of psoriasis, showcasing optimised drug delivery, sustained release, and notable therapeutic efficacy. The findings from this study provide a foundation for the potential clinical translation of this innovative topical dosage form for improved psoriasis management.

The importance of real-time dose evaluation has increased for recent advanced radiotherapy. However, conventional methods for real-time dosimetry using gel dosimeters face challenges owing to the delayed dose response caused by the slow completion of radiation-induced chemical reactions. In this study, a novel technique called photoluminescence-detected pulse radiolysis (PLPR) was developed, and its potential to allow real-time dose measurements using nano-clay radio-fluorogenic gel (NC-RFG) dosimeters was investigated. PLPR is a time-resolved observation method, and enables time-resolved fluorescence measurement. NC-RFG dosimeters were prepared, typically consisting of 100 µM dihydrorhodamine 123 (DHR123) and 2.0 wt.% nano-clay, along with catalytic and dissolving additives. We successfully achieved time-resolved observation of the increase in fluorescence intensity upon irradiation of the dosimeter. Dose evaluation was possible at 1 s after irradiation. The dose-rate effect was not observed for the deoxygenated dosimeter, but was observed for the aerated dosimeter. Besides the dose-rate effect, linear dose responses were obtained for both conditions. Furthermore, we made a novel observation of a decay in the fluorescence intensity over time in the early stages which named fluorescence secondary loss (FSL) and elucidated the conditions under which this phenomenon occurs.

The development of effective therapy is necessary because the patients have to contend with long-term therapy as skin fungal infections usually relapse and are hardly treated. Despite being a potent antifungal agent, luliconazole (LCZ) has certain shortcomings such as limited skin penetration, low solubility in aqueous medium, and poor skin retention. Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLNs) were developed using biodegradable lipids by solvent injection method and were embodied into the gel base for topical administration. After in-vitro characterizations of the formulations, molecular interactions of the drug with excipients were analyzed using in-silico studies. Ex-vivo release was determined in contrast to the pure LCZ and the commercial formulation followed by in-vivo skin localization, skin irritation index, and antifungal activity. The prepared SLNs have an average particle size of 290.7 nm with no aggregation of particles and homogenous gels containing SLNs with ideal rheology and smooth texture properties were successfully prepared. The ex-vivo LCZ release from the SLN gel was lower than the commercial formulation whereas its skin deposition and skin retention were higher as accessed by CLSM studies. The drug reaching the systemic circulation and the skin irritation potential were found to be negligible. The solubility and drug retention in the skin were both enhanced by the development of SLNs as a carrier. Thus, SLNs offer significant advantages by delivering long lasting concentrations of LCZ at the site of infection for a complete cure of the fungal load together with skin localization of the topical antifungal drug.

Purple maize is a pigmented variety rich in antioxidants. Arabinoxylans (AX) are prebiotic compounds also found in the grain wall that can form gels. Recently, antioxidants have extensively been studied for their beneficial effects. However, these bioactive compounds do not easily reach the intestine in a stable form. These gels can protect certain compounds during in vitro digestion. This work aimed to extract the AX and simultaneously obtain the antioxidant compounds present in the external walls of the purple maize grain to produce gels with 2% and 4% AX to apply an in vitro digestion method. Popcorn maize (unpigmented) was used as a control. The amount of ferulic acid, polyphenols, and anthocyanins, and their antioxidative activity, were measured at in vitro digestion of the gels. This work highlights the ability of AX gels to enhance the potential bioavailability of antioxidant compounds including anthocyanins from purple maize after digestion.

Conductive gels have greatly facilitated the development of flexible energy storage devices, including supercapacitors, batteries, and triboelectric nanogenerators. However, it is challenging for gel electrolytes to tackle the trade-off issues between mechanical properties and conductivity. Herein, a strategy of all inorganic salt-driven supramolecular networks is presented to construct gel electrolytes with high conductivity and reliable mechanical performance for flexible supercapacitors. The salt gel is successfully fabricated by combining a salt supramolecular network constructed by NH4Mo7O24·4H2O and FeCl3·6H2O and a polymer network of poly(vinyl alcohol). The inorganic salt supramolecular network serves as a rigid self-supporting framework in the hydrogel system for improving the mechanical properties and providing abundant active sites for accelerating ion transport. Furthermore, the salt gel-enabled supercapacitors are equipped and exhibit a high specific capacitance (199.4 mF cm-2) and excellent energy density (27.69 µWh cm-2). Moreover, the flexible supercapacitors not only present remarkable cyclic stability after 3000 charging/discharging cycles but also exhibit good electrochemical stability even under severe deformation conditions. The strategy of salt-gel-driven flexible supercapacitors would provide fresh thinking for the development of advanced flexible energy storage fields.

Background: Levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) is a continuously delivered Parkinson's disease therapy intended to stabilize plasma levodopa levels. Patients receiving LCIG require education and follow-up. Some LCIG support programs use video-assisted telenursing. Objective: To examine how videoconferencing impacts satisfaction with LCIG support programs. Methods: FACILITATE CARE (Feasibility of video-Assisted Care for Intestinal Levodopa Infusion with Telenursing - observAtional Trial Evaluating patient and Caregiver Acceptance in REal life) was a 12-week, prospective, open-label, 2-arm, parallel-group, observational study assessing satisfaction with LCIG support in patients who self-assigned to video or audio-only arms. Patients aged 18-85 years had completed LCIG titration and owned a videoconferencing device (video arm only). A visual analog scale measured satisfaction (1-10, 10 being most satisfied). Results: Patients' mean (standard deviation) ages were 67.9 (7.4, n = 26) and 71.1 (6.2, n = 15) years in the video and audio arms, respectively. Patients, caregivers, and physicians in both groups reported satisfaction scores of 8-10 with LCIG support personnel, communication access, and assistance with becoming independent. At week 12, the Modified Caregiver Strain Index least square means change from baseline was lower in the video vs. audio arm (-2.3 [1.0] vs. 1.6 [1.2]). LCIG support personnel travel time was lower in the video vs. audio arm (125.7 [70.2] vs. 203.0 [70.0] minutes). Conclusions: LCIG support programs are associated with high patient, caregiver, and physician satisfaction; video and audioconferencing satisfaction are similarly high. Video-assisted telenursing may be a convenient communication avenue and may reduce caregiver burden. Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov; NCT04500106.

This work studied the phase transition and gel properties of cassava starch in aqueous choline acetate ([Ch][OAc]) solution at different [Ch][OAc]:water weight ratios. The paste viscosity and gel strength followed a similar pattern to the starch phase transition temperature, increasing at a 2:3 [Ch][OAc]:water ratio and then decreasing at 3:2 and 4:1 ratios. However, the mobility of free water in the starch gel decreased as the [Ch][OAc]:water ratio increased. At the same [Ch][OAc]:water ratios, acetylated cassava starch (ACS) underwent phase transition more easily than native cassava starch (NCS), leading to greater granule destruction. Nevertheless, ACS gels displayed more viscous-dominated rheological behavior, lower paste viscosity, viscoelasticity, and weaker water-holding capacity (WHC) than NCS gels. In contrast, cross-linked cassava starch (CCS) gels had higher paste viscosity, gel viscoelasticity, and WHC. However, at a 4:1 [Ch][OAc]:water ratio, the viscoelasticity of CCS gel was lower than NCS gel, and the differences in WHC were minimal, likely due to the incomplete phase transition of especially CCS under this condition. Our findings show that starch chemical modification significantly affects phase transition behavior and gel properties in [Ch][OAc]:water mixtures, with outcomes influenced by the viscosity of the aqueous [Ch][OAc] solution and the interaction between [Ch][OAc] and water.

Flexible electronic sensing and energy storage technology impose heightened demands on the mechanical and stable properties of gel electrolyte materials. Lignocellulosic nanofiber (LCNF) present a promising avenue for improving the properties of electrolyte networks and mechanical strength. In this study, LCNF derived from hemp fibers was prepared using lactic acid/choline chloride deep eutectic solvent (DES) through a combination of cooking and colloid mill mechanical treatment to achieve nanocellulose with a high aspect ratio and uniform dimensions. The outcomes demonstrated that LCNF, a width of below 20 nm and a length of over 5 µm, can be effectively produced through the DES cooking pretreatment in conjunction with colloid mill mechanical treatment. Meanwhile, DES lignin possessed a purity of ∼90 % and was obtained as a by-product. Subsequently, the as-prepared LCNF was integrated as a nanofiller into gel electrolyte. Ag-L NPs/LCNF/DES/PAA exhibited dense porous structures and showcased exceptional properties, including a high conductivity exceeding 10 mS/cm and remarkable adhesion strength surpassing 100 KPa. The presence of LCNF allowed Ag-L NPs/LCNF/DES/PAA to achieve strains above 1000 % and compression properties over 1000 KPa. The supercapacitor based on this assembly had a high specific capacitance of 271 F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1), along with an impressive capacity retention rate reaching ∼100 % after 3000 cycles. This investigation offers valuable insights into the utilization of lignocellulosic multi-component approaches in the development of flexible electronic devices.

The gel skeletal reinforcement (GSR) method was applied at the preparation stage of ß-zeolite to prepare a novel hierarchical catalyst. A solution of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDS) and acetic anhydride, a GSR reagent, was added to the mixture of colloidal silica, sodium aluminate, tetraethylammonium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and water, and successive aging and hydrothermal treatment gave microporous ß-zeolite surrounded by mesoporous silica like core-shell structure. Its properties were characterized by XRD, nitrogen adsorption and desorption, NH3-TPD, TEM, and TG-DTA measurements, and further characteristics of the catalysts produced were clarified by the catalytic cracking of n-dodecane. The hierarchical structure of microporous zeolite and mesoporous silica was shown from GSR-2.9HS-H-Beta to GSR-3.2HS-H-Beta, where the molar ratio of HMDS and silica source of ß-zeolite was 2.9~3.2:100. It was found that in the catalytic cracking of n-dodecane, the relative activity (the conversion per the amount of zeolite crystals) increased with the increase in mesopore volume and surface area. The result indicated that the introduction of mesopores was effective even in catalytic cracking of small molecule of n-dodecane.

Scar formation results from the replacement of normal skin with fibroblasts, leading to a structured unidirectional collagen bundle, as opposed to the collagen sheet matrix found in healthy skin. This review categorizes scars into hypertrophic scars and keloids, each with distinct pathophysiological characteristics. It highlights the importance of consistent scar assessment using scales such as the Vancouver Scar Scale and the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale, emphasizing the need for standardized evaluation methods. The study systematically reviews various scar management techniques, ranging from traditional surgical methods to innovative treatments. Conventional approaches such as pressure garments and silicone gel sheeting are explored, noting their roles in maintaining hydration and occlusion. The efficacy of intralesional corticosteroid injections and laser therapies is discussed, with particular attention given to their combined use for optimal outcomes. The review also covers advanced techniques such as microneedling, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and stem cell-based treatments, detailing their mechanisms and potential benefits in scar remodelling. Additionally, the study underscores the emerging role of botulinum toxin A in both preventive and corrective scar treatments, offering promising results in reducing movement-induced scar exaggeration. The systematic review includes a thorough examination of existing literature, clinical trials, and meta-analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions. It concludes by calling for further research to refine these techniques and enhance their application in clinical practice, aiming to achieve better aesthetic and functional outcomes for patients with scars.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to determine whether intrauterine infusion of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel increases endometrial thickness (EMT) and improves the outcomes of frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) in women with thin endometrium. METHODS: This study included 111 women (aged 25-44 years) who had thin endometrium. All patients had at least one previous cycle canceled because of thin endometrium or previous embryo transfer cycles and an EMT < 7 mm. Forty-seven women underwent intrauterine infusion of autologous PRP gel on three occasions during endometrial preparation and the remaining women served as controls. The final EMT was measured by ultrasound before the start of the luteal phase, and FET-related outcome parameters were monitored. RESULTS: Mean EMT was greater in women who received PRP gel than in those who did not (6.7 mm vs. 6.3 mm, respectively, p < 0.05). FET was attempted in all women. The 47 women who underwent infusion of PRP had a significantly higher pregnancy rate (18 pregnancies (38.3%), with 17 (36.2%) ongoing) compared with 64 control women (ten pregnancies (18.5%), nine (16.7%) ongoing). However, there was no significant reduction in the miscarriage rate. CONCLUSION: Intrauterine infusion of autologous PRP gel during endometrial preparation for FET cycles can improve the EMT, clinical pregnancy rate, and ongoing pregnancy rate in women with thin endometrium.

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease patients may experience altered body image perception. Advanced Parkinson's disease (aPD) with motor complications often requires surgical and device-aided treatments (DAT), such as levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) and deep brain stimulation (DBS). Understanding body image perception is crucial when managing these devices. This study aims to explore body image perception in aPD patients, hypothesizing a link between DAT and body image perception. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional study including non-demented aPD patients with and without DAT and age- and sex-matched controls. Participants were assessed using the Appearance Schemas Inventory-Revised (ASI-R), including Motivational Salience (MS) and Self-Evaluative Salience (SES) scores. Additional data included age, education, BMI, comorbidities, pharmacotherapy, and psychopathologies. PD patients were also evaluated with UPDRS, Hoehn and Yahr scales and LEDD calculation. RESULTS: 70 aPD and 36 controls were enrolled. No differences in ASI-R scores were found between PD patients and controls, but women with PD had significantly lower MS scores than controls (16.1 ± 5.6 vs 19.7 ± 5.8; p = 0.023). Among aPD patients, those on DAT had longer disease duration, higher Hoehn and Yahr, and lower UPDRS IV scores. The lowest MS was observed in women on LCIG (12.7 ± 3.3; p = 0.001). DISCUSSION: This study shows low MS ratings driven by female gender and LCIG treatment. Women on LCIG show reduced attention and management of their appearance. This may be influenced by cultural, environmental, and biological factors. Prospective research is needed to understand the impact of DAT on body image.
