Introduction: Bedwetting is a frequent reason to visit pediatric, infant psychiatry, psychology and family medicine services, with more percentage in 5 years children, followed by 7 and 9 years children, in that order. Objective: To determine the construct validity of the hypnotherapeutic algorithm for patients with monosymptomatic bedwetting. Methods: A complex investigation of 97 patients was carried out, who were assisted in the Therapeutic Hypnosis Clinic of the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba, from February, 2021, to July, 2022 which was structured in 3 methodological phases of construct validation to continue the phase IV of hypnotherapeutic algorithm content validation, on the base of 2 quasi-experiments without control group and a quasi-experiment with non equivalent control group of the second phase of this investigation. Results: The factorial analysis on the study of main components was possible, because the factors 1, 2 and 3 should stay, which was expressed in the sedimentation graph and in the explained total variance, through the percentages accumulated in the initial auto values and the sum of saturations to the square of extraction and rotation with 64.24%. Conclusions: The construct validation of the designed algorithm showed relevancy, given by the suitability of the factorial analysis and the Bartlett test of spherical form.

Muestreo no probabilístico (n= 450).

Introduction: Resilience in adolescence is related to the ability to solve the problem of identity in contexts where it does not have the conditions to be built in a positive way. Objective: To design an instrument to assess resilience in adolescents from 15 to 19 years of age. Methods: Instrumental research, at the Martín Dihigo Pre-University Institute in Cienfuegos, from March to September 2022. Non-probabilistic sampling (n= 450). Content validity was carried out through expert criteria, construct validity from factorial analysis and criterion validity through correlation with the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. Reliability was carried out through internal consistency, and temporal stability through test-retest. Results: The instrument presents content validity. The factorial analysis yielded 7 factors which explain 64.8 percent of the variance. The correlation of the instrument with the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale was 0.333 (p< 0.01). A global Cronbach's alpha α= 0.839 was obtained; temporal stability was demonstrated. Conclusions: The Cuban Adolescent Resilience Scale has adequate validity and reliability criteria that justify its application in the population of Cuban adolescents(AU)

RESUMO

The factorial reduction of Brief COPE has not been successfully replicated by independent studies, and few have been performed in Spanish-speaking populations; therefore, the objective of this study was to perform a factorial reduction of the instrument in a large sample of the Mexican population and perform a convergent and divergent validity of the factors obtained. We distributed a questionnaire via social networks with sociodemographic and psychological variables, including the Brief COPE and the scales of the CPSS, GAD-7, and CES-D to measure stress, anxiety, and depression. A total of 1283 persons were included, most of whom (64.8%) were women and had a bachelor's degree (55.2%). After performing the exploratory factorial analysis, we did not find a model with an adequate fit and a reduced number of factors; therefore, we decided to reduce the number of items according to the most representative ones of adaptive, maladaptive, and emotional coping strategies. The resulting model with three factors showed good fit parameters and good internal consistency of the factors. In addition, the nature and naming of the factors were confirmed by convergent and divergent validity, with significant negative correlations between factor 1 (active/adaptive) and stress, depression, and anxiety, significant positive correlations between factor 2 (avoidant/maladaptive) and these three variables, and no significant correlation between factor 3 (emotional/neutral) and stress or depression. This shortened version of the brief COPE (Mini-COPE) is a good option to evaluate adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies in Spanish-speaking populations.

RESUMO

Negative impressions related to food processing can compromise consumer acceptance. Thus, the aim of this study was to validate a tool to assess consumer knowledge and acceptance of food processing. Semantic evaluation was performed with a lay public (n=13). Experts with experience in the area (n=9) participated in the content validation and semantic evaluation, using the Delphi Technique. Overall, there was strong agreement between the judges (Gwet's AC2 = 0.96 [clarity] and 0.81 [relevance]), with Fleiss Kappa equivalent to 0.78, indicating almost perfect agreement. After these phases, the instrument that totaled 37 items approved (W > 0.8) was applied for validation among Brazilian consumers (n = 200). An exploratory factor analysis offered a six-factor solution. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index found was 0.90. The Bartlett Sphericity Test was statistically significant (p<0.001). The final instrument contained 34 items. The calculated Cronbach's Alpha was 0.92, indicating an excellent reliability. The developed Consumers Knowledge of Food Processing and Acceptance of Processed Food (CKAFPAPF) was consistently validated and has proven to be a tool that can help identify information asymmetries, allowing the development of strategies that help consumers to have the correct information to make their food choices more consciously.

RESUMO

Objective: The teacher's motivation is associated with his/her achievements, health and well-being, which reflect on the quality of teaching. Based on the Theory of Self-Determination, validity evidence of an instrument to assess teacher's motivation for teaching was developed, containing 26 items to be answered on a Likert-type scale. Method: The questionnaire Teacher's motivation for teaching was applied online in a sample of 509 higher education teachers, 50.39% female and 49.41% male, with ages ranging from 25 to 73 years. Data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis, using the Parallel Analysis method. Results: Exploratory Factor Analysis revealed a two factors structure with a few structural problems that required the deletion of some items. The 17-item version of the teacher's motivation for teaching was simple and the estimated adjustment indexes were very good. Conclusion: The high factor loadings obtained among the items and the two factors to which they clustered allow to consider them representatives of the constructs Autonomous and Controlled Motivation.

ABSTRACT Objective Assess the evidence of validity and the internal consistency of the Questionnaire for Screening Early Signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder (QR-TEA). Methods Four healthcare professionals with more than five years of clinical experience in treating children diagnosed with ASD analyzed the content. A sample of 133 parents/guardians of children aged 24-36 months from all over Brazil participated in the internal structure and internal consistency study. Participants answered the questionnaire through interviews with healthcare professionals. An exploratory factor analysis technique verified the factor structure. Additionally, to assess the instrument's internal consistency, the composite reliability was calculated. Results i-IVC = 1.00 was found for most items; Kappa between 0.51 and 0.94; p < 0.05; CCI = 0.90; p < 0.05. Exploratory factor analysis pointed to a two-factor solution for QR-TEA. Composite reliability was adequate (above 0.70) for both factors. The factor structure replicability measure suggested that the two factors are replicable in future studies (H > 0.80). Conclusions The data indicate initial evidence of validity and adequate internal consistency. The findings also support the psychometric adequacy of the QR-TEA in line with the DSM-5 two-factor model. It is recommended to conduct further studies to assess other evidence of validity and to verify the sensibility and specificity.

Abstract: Emotion dysregulation is a multidimensional construct determined by maladaptive ways of responding to emotions. Emerging adults (i.e., aged from 18 to 25/30), particularly college students, are vulnerable to involvement in risky behaviors under emotions. The State Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (S-DERS) became suitable to measure facets of momentary emotion dysregulation in this population; however, there are no confirmatory studies or studies of adaptation to the Spanish language. The aim of this study was to examine psychometric properties of S-DERS. A sample of 178 Argentine emerging college-age adults was evaluated (18-28 years old; 53.9% women; Mage= 22.03; DE ± 2.06). Internal structure and consistency of the original model (i.e., S-DERS; four factors: Nonacceptance, Awareness, Clarity, Modulation) and an alternative model without Clarity (i.e., S-DERS-R; three factors) was analyzed. Both models presented a factor structure with satisfactory fit and acceptable values of internal consistency, with the exception of the Clarity subscale. Mainly to Nonacceptance and Modulation subscales, we observed evidence of convergent validity with two-trait emotion dysregulation scales, concurrent validity with a positive and negative affect scale, and predictive validity with an emotion arousal measure. Results show suitable sychometric properties. The S-DERS-R model (i.e., without Clarity factor) improves the model fit and maintains acceptable internal consistency values with respect to the S-DERS model. This instrument is expected to be useful in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of state emotion dysregulation in college students.

RESUMO

Abstract The objective of this research was to perform the factorial validity of the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services (MBIHSS) in prison officers in Chile through a first-order factor analysis and a confirmatory analysis. The sample was constituted by all the prison officers in the Region of Arica and Parinacota (N=334). Of these, 44 did not participate in the study, since they were in a medical leave, vacation or special permit, transfer in progress, or similar situation. Therefore, the final number of participants was 290 subjects. The Burnout Syndrome (BS) was estimated through the adaptation to Spanish (Gil-Monte, 2005) of the Maslach Burnout Inventory, in its version for human services professionals (MBI-HSS) (Maslach & Jackson, 1986), validated in Chile (Olivares, 2009). By way of conclusion, the present investigation found similarities in the MBI-HSS in terms of dimensionality and reliability analysis, and despite the international observations of the instrument, an adjusted proposal (standardization and validation) of the MBI-HSS is provided for contexts Prisoners with 18 items, since in Chile there is no validation of the MBI-HSS in prison officers;

Abstract There is a lack of validated instruments to evaluate child protection programs in Portugal. The present study analyzed the psychometric characteristics of the Child Well-Being Scales (CWBS), a multidimensional measure of potential situations of abuse and neglect, in 276 families at psychosocial risk. Measures of parental efficiency, satisfaction and parental symptomatology were also collected. Through exploratory factor analysis, a 3-factor solution, similar to the original version was identified, with high levels of internal consistency (α between 0.82-0.86) and good model fit (GFI = 0.97, RMSR = 0.06). Regarding construct validity, significant correlations were found that were in line with theoretical expectation. Our results support the utility of EBI as a guide to the assessment and decision-making regarding child protection measures.

The study evaluated the psychometric properties of the EUROHIS-QOL 8-item scale in Brazilian adults. The EUROHIS-QOL is a measurement of quality of life developed based on the generic instruments of WHOQOL-100 and WHOQOL-BREF. Based on data from a prospective cohort of 1,100 adults, participants in the baseline in 2006 and 2007, exploratory factor analysis, internal consistency, reliability, and discriminant validity were performed via multitrait-multimethod analysis, with the calculation of the average variance extracted (AVE). Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted with 573 of these participants in 2013 to 2018. Solutions were tested with one and with two factors named functional capacity and socioeconomic conditions. Both solutions presented good internal consistency and reliability. The correlation between the items was 0.535, and the AVE was 0.397 for solution with one factor, and 0.528 and 0.341 for factors one and two, respectively, indicating good discriminant validity in the bifactorial solution. Both factors had eigenvalues greater than one and factor loadings ranging from 0.398 to 0.915. The adjustment of the unifactorial solution presented: χ2 = 186 (g.l. = 18), p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.128 (90%CI: 0.111-0.145), CFI = 0.960, TLI = 0.938, and SMRM = 0.042; while in the bifactorial presented: χ2 = 135 (g.l. = 17), p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.110 (90%CI: 0.093-0.128), CFI = 0.972, TLI = 0.954, and SMRM = 0.035. Overall, the results provide reasonable evidence for the construct validity and reliability of the EUROHIS-QOL 8-item. Instruments with fewer items, as in our case, provide greater practicality and are ideal for use in population-based studies with extensive samples.

The latent structure of executive functions (EFs) remains controversial. Confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA) has provided support for both multidimensional (assumes EFs to be functionally separable but related components) and bifactor (proposes all components are nested within a common factor) models. However, these CFA models have never been compared in patient samples, nor regarding their neuroanatomical correlates. Here, we systematically contrast both approaches in neurotypicals and in a neurodegenerative lesion model (patients with the behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia, bvFTD), characterized by executive deficits associated with frontal neurodegeneration. First, CFA was used to test the models' fit in a sample of 341 neurotypicals and 29 bvFTD patients based on performance in an executive frontal screening battery which assesses working memory, motor inhibition, verbal inhibition, and abstraction capacity. Second, we compared EFs factor and observed scores between patients and matched controls. Finally, we used voxel-based morphometry (VBM) to compare the grey matter correlates of factor and observed scores. CFA results showed that both models fit the data well. The multidimensional model, however, was more sensitive than the bifactor model and the observed scores to detect EFs impairments in bvFTD patients. VBM results for the multidimensional model revealed common and unique grey matter correlates for EFs components across prefrontal-insular, posterior, and temporal cortices. Regarding the bifactor model, only the common factor was associated with prefrontal-insular hubs. Observed scores presented scant, non-frontal grey matter associations. Converging behavioral and neuroanatomical evidence from healthy populations and a neurodegenerative model of EFs supports an underlying multidimensional structure.

Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic has impacted in different scopes of higher education, that is why is necessary to generate researches that contribute with evidences on this topic. Aim: To validate a scale for evaluating the Cuban dental students' perceptions on the possible academic impact of the COVID-19. Methods: Instrumental and cross-sectional study. Starting from a Spanish language instrument validated in Peruvian medical and other university students, the first step of the validation through the expert's criteria was performed. After, a factorial exploratory analysis (FEA), by not pondered minima squares, was performed and the internal consistency was measured through Alpha of Cronbach. Results : 159 students were suitable for analysis; 60.38 percent were men and the mean age was 21.86 years. All items were evaluated in a favorable way by the expert's criteria. From the initial scale, the preliminary analysis suggested to eliminate the item 6. The relevance of the FEA was justified with the KMO index (0.801) and Bartlett's test (344.8; gl=15; p=0.000) being acceptable and significant. An Alpha of Cronbach's coefficient of 0.915 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.90-0.91 was obtained; indicating that the consistency of the instrument is good. Conclusions : A single factor scale measuring Cuban dental students' perception of the possible academic impact of the COVID-19 was validated(AU)

RESUMO

The process of assessing executive functions through behavioral observation scales is still under theoretical and empirical construction. This article reports on the analysis of the factorial structure of the EOCL-1 scale that assesses executive functions, as proposed by the theory developed by Luria, which has not been previously considered in this type of evaluation. In this scale, the executive functions taken into account are error correction, internal behavioral and cognition regulatory language, limbic system conscious regulation, decision making, future consideration of consequences of actions, goal-directed behavior, inhibitory control of automatic responses, creation of new behavioral repertoires, and cognitive-behavioral activity verification. A variety of validity and reliability analyses were carried out, with the following results: (a) an adequate internal consistency level of executive functions between α = 0.70 and α = 0.83, (b) significant convergent validity with a scale that assesses frontal deficits between r = -0.07 and r = 0.28, and (c) the scale's construct validity that proposes a model with an executive central factor comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.93, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.04 (LO.04 and HI.04), standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) = 0.04, and x2 ( 312 ) = 789.29, p = 0.001. The findings are discussed based on previous literature reports and in terms of the benefits of using a scale to assess the proposed executive functions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to estimate the psychometric properties of the Body Area Scale (BAS) applied to a sample of Brazilian university students to support the validity and reliability of the obtained data. METHODS: We performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using the Comparative Fit index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI), and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA). We calculated the average variance extracted (AVE), composite reliability (CR), and ordinal alpha coefficient (α). All estimates were calculated separately for women and men. A thousand students participated (women = 64.0%, mean [M] age = 20.92, standard deviation [SD] = 2.40 years; body mass index (BMI) M = 23.24, SD = 3.97 kg/m2 ). RESULTS: Considering the CFA results, the original unifactorial model (24 items) did not fit data for women and men. Instead, the two-factorial model with 19 items had adequate fit for male and female samples (CFI = 0.922-0.958; TLI = 0.912-0.952; RMSEA = 0.090-0.096), as well as good convergent validity (AVE = 0.536-0.668) and reliability (CR = 0.920-0.952; α = 0.916-0.948). Once BAS was proposed to evaluate satisfaction/dissatisfaction with one's own body, and considering the reformulation of the factorial model, we proposed a new name for the instrument: Body Appearance (Dis)Satisfaction Scale (BAS-R). CONCLUSION: Professionals can now include the BAS-R in future protocols to evaluate satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the body in Brazilian students.

INTRODUCTION: Resilience is a dynamic process that acts to modify the effects of an adverse life event. In this study, we aimed to test the construct validity of the Resilience Scale by employing exploratory and confirmatory procedures, and to investigate the relationship between caregiver's resilience and clinical status of people with Alzheimer's disease. METHODS: A sample of 143 dyads of people with Alzheimer's disease and their primary caregivers were included. RESULTS: The total Resilience Scale mean score was 140.3 (standard deviation [SD] = 16.289), ranging from 25 to 175, indicating a high level of resilience. Cronbach's alpha was high (α = 0.77), indicating excellent internal consistency. The mean of corrected item-total correlation coefficients was moderate. The Resilience Scale presented a four-factor solution with a well-defined structure: sense of life and self-sufficiency, perseverance, self-confidence and equanimity, and meaningfulness. CONCLUSION: The findings indicate excellent internal consistency of the Resilience Scale when used to evaluate psychological and emotional difficulties of caregivers, even though the correlations observed between the Resilience Scale and clinical variables were not significant for functionality, mood, awareness, neuropsychiatric symptoms, or burden.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease comprises two conditions: ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire 32 (IBDQ-32) is a specific questionnaire which has been translated from English into Spanish and validated. In the Spanish-speaking countries of America it has not been validated. The aim was to determine the psychometric properties, validity and reliability of the Mexican version of the IBDQ-32 questionnaire. METHODS: A total of 316 patients with inflammatory bowel disease and 100 healthy controls participated in the study. The questionnaires IBDQ-32 and SF-36 were issued on two occasions (separated by 15 days). The psychometric properties of the Mexican version of the IBDQ-32 questionnaire were determined. RESULTS: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease had an impaired quality of life compared to healthy controls. There were no differences between ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease in the total scores of IBDQ-32 and its domains. The internal consistency reliability was good. The intraclass coefficient showed good reliability (repeated measurement) for total scale and all four subscales. Factor analysis explained variance is higher than 50% therefore is considered adequate/acceptable. The correlation between IBDQ-32 and SF-36 showed a satisfactory association. The social domain is the only one that presented a ceiling effect. CONCLUSIONS: The Mexican version of the IBDQ-32 quality of life questionnaire is valid and reliable. This sample included the entire spectrum of inflammatory disease (remission and activity) and was comparable when assessing quality of life with the SF-36 generic questionnaire.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The cognitive regulation of emotions is a fundamental variable in socio-affective functioning, being an essential skill in childhood due to its relationship with multiple areas of social functioning. Although there is a version that allows evaluating this construct (CERQ-k), translated and adapted for Argentine children, the structural model found does not fully coincide with the model proposed by the authors of the original version of CERQ. OBJECTIVE: To test, through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), the model obtained in the adapted version and compare it with that of the original version of the instrument. METHOD: From a non-probabilistic sample, 761 children between the ages of 9 and 12, from the provinces of Entre Ríos and Córdoba, participated in the study. Descriptive analyzes of the items, CFA, and reliability analysis were carried out. RESULTS: The CFA indicated an adequate fit in both models, although the second-order model proved to be more parsimonious and with satisfactory fit and error indices. CONCLUSION: The CERQ-k version adapted to Argentina, whose structure has been confirmed in this study, allows a valid and reliable measure of the construct to evaluate the cognitive regulation of emotion in children aged 9 to 12 years.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Food Acculturation Strategies Scale - EdeAA (in Spanish Escala de Estrategias de Aculturación Alimentaria), an instrument designed to evaluate skills based on the categorical model of acculturation strategies proposed by Berry. Three hundred and three Colombian immigrants living in the city of Antofagasta, Chile participated in the study. The understanding and cultural relevance of the writing of the items was tested, in parallel with expert validation and finally a confirmatory factor analysis was carried out. Goodness-of-fit indices indicated that the model proposed in this work had an acceptable global adjustment (x2 = 55.9; gl= 19; p < 0.001; IFC= 0.960; RMSEA= 0.080 (0.056 - 0.105)). We conclude that the results empirically support the validity of the internal structure of the Food Acculturation Strategies Scale - EdeAA. Replicating these results under different conditions (different samples, other estimation methods, etc.) is suggested. In this line, it is necessary to carry out factor invariance analyses with different groups of migrants residing in different countries.
