Objetivo: Identificar a prevalência do presenteísmo entre os profissionais de enfermagem e caracterizar o perfil desses trabalhadores. Métodos: Estudo transversal, descritivo com abordagem quantitativa realizado em um hospital geral privado de médio porte, com uma amostra de 437 profissionais da enfermagem. Utilizou-se como instrumentos de pesquisa um questionário biossocial e ocupacional e o questionário Stanford Presenteeism Scale para a avaliação do presenteísmo. Resultados: Identificou-se que 63,4% (277) dos profissionais de enfermagem participantes compareceu ao trabalho doente nos últimos 30 dias. Dos 277 trabalhadores com comportamento presenteísta, 206 (74,4%) foram considerados presenteístas, sendo a maioria do sexo feminino, técnicas de enfermagem, com idade superior a 35 anos e desempenho de função assistencial, com jornada de trabalho diária de seis horas diurnas e 36 horas semanais. A prevalência do presenteísmo entre os profissionais de enfermagem foi de 47,1%. Houve associação dos profissionais presenteístas com as doenças mentais auto relatadas; 25,2% apresentaram mais dificuldade em finalizar o trabalho e 23,8% de manter-se concentrado durante o trabalho. Conclusão: O presenteísmo é um fenômeno prevalente entre os profissionais de enfermagem. Os fatores psicossociais e da organização estão entre as causas desencadeantes e podem associar-se e agravar doenças mentais. (AU)


Objective: To identify the prevalence of presenteeism among nursing professionals and characterize the profile of these workers. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach conducted in a medium-sized private general hospital, in a sample of 437 nursing professionals. The research instruments used were a biosocial and occupational questionnaire and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale questionnaire for evaluating presenteeism. Results: It was identified that 63.4% (277) of nursing professionals went to work sick in the last 30 days. Of the 277 workers with presenteeism, 206 (74.4%) were considered presentees, and most of them were female, nursing technicians, over 35 years of age, performing care work, with a daily work day of six hours and 36 hours per week. The prevalence of presenteeism among nursing professionals was 47.1%. There was an association between presenteeism and self-reported mental diseases; 25.2% had more difficulty to finish the work and 23.8% to keep focused during the work. Conclusion: Presenteeism is a prevalent phenomenon among nursing professionals. Psychosocial and organizational factors are among the triggering causes and may associate with and aggravate mental illness. (AU)

De los 277 trabajadores con presentismo, 206 (74,4%) fueron considerados presentistas, y la mayoría eran mujeres, técnicos de enfermería, mayores de 35 años, con una carga de trabajo diaria de seis horas al día y 36 horas a la semana. La prevalencia del presentismo entre los profesionales de enfermería fue del 47,1%. Hubo una asociación entre el presentismo y las enfermedades mentales autodeclaradas; al 25,2% le resultaba más difícil terminar el trabajo y al 23,8% le costaba concentrarse durante el mismo. Conclusión: El presentismo es un fenómeno prevalente entre los profesionales de la enfermería. Los factores psicosociales y organizativos se encuentran entre las causas desencadenantes y pueden asociarse y agravar los trastornos mentales. (AU)

Introduction: Urinary incontinence negatively impacts the quality of life and can harm work activities, causing presenteeism in health professionals and decreasing the quality of care and patient safety. The objective of this study is to explore the self-perception of health workers who suffer from urinary incontinence as a predisposing factor for presenteeism. Methods: Mixed study of an exploratory-descriptive nature. The sample was selected in a non-probabilistic and intentional way by criterion and convenience with a size of 14 volunteers, considering the saturation of the information. Reliability criteria defined by Guba for the process and analysis of thematic data were considered. Results: The sample had a mean age of 38.9 + 7.1 years and a mean SPS-6 score of 15.8 + 3.5 points, showing alteration in the dimension of avoiding deconcentration. The narratives in the case study provide relevant information on how urinary incontinence affects the work performance of health workers through the interruption in their day, decreases the quality of clinical care, and increases their anxiety regarding their environment. Conclusions: Urinary incontinence and presenteeism are subjective, and multidimensional experiences affect work performance. Therefore, further studies are recommended to identify predictor variables and the economic losses associated with this condition to establish improvements in the work environment and the self-care of female employees seeking greater benefits and better levels of efficiency in the organization.

Conclusiones: Dado que la incontinencia urinaria y el presentismo son experiencias subjetivas y multidimensionales, al igual que el efecto negativo en el desempeño laboral, se recomienda un estudio que permita identificar variables predictoras y las pérdidas económicas asociadas a esta condición. Con ello se buscaría establecer mejoras en el ambiente laboral, así como en el autocuidado de funcionarias, procurando mayores beneficios y mejores niveles de eficiencia en la organización.

OBJECTIVES: The "decision" to go to work, or remain absent, when unwell undermines worker energy. I is therefore understandable that low work performance is one of the main consequences of the act of presenteeism. This study evaluated the association between presenteeism, and absolute and relative work performance among fruit farm workers in Northeast Brazil. METHODS: A cross-sectional study investigated 340 paid employees of both sexes, aged 18 years or over, who worked during the 2019 irrigated fruit harvest in the municipality of Petrolina, Northeast Brazil. Absolute and relative work performance were measured using the Health and Work Performance Questionnaire. Workers who answered "one or more days" to the question "How many days have you worked this season when you were injured or unwell?" were considered presenteeists. Poisson regression with robust variance models was used to estimate the prevalence ratios of the main associations, adjusted for potential confounders. RESULTS: Presenteeist workers presented lower absolute and relative work performance than non-presenteeist workers according to the strata for most of the investigated factors. The associations between presenteeism, and absolute (adjusted prevalence ratio = 1.31) and relative work performance (adjusted prevalence ratio = 1.45) remained strong, even after multiple adjustments for other relevant variables. CONCLUSION: Presenteeist fruit culture workers self-assessed their work performance as lower than non-presenteeist ones.

Objetivo: comprender las experiencias de presentismo vividas por profesionales de enfermería en los servicios hospitalarios durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Método: estudio cualitativo, anclado en el materialismo histórico-dialéctico. Participaron de la investigación treinta trabajadores de enfermería, divididos en seis grupos focales en línea, analizados con base en la Hermenéutica-Dialéctica. Resultados: emergieron tres categorías de análisis: "Agravamiento del presentismo en el contexto de pandemia"; "¿Por qué fui a trabajar enfermo: decisión del trabajador o trabajo precario?"; "Viejos problemas, lucha permanente". A pesar del padecimiento de los profesionales por la COVID-19, el presentismo en la pandemia estuvo marcado por la presión institucional para regresar al trabajo, el sufrimiento mental y la falta de reconocimiento y humanización. Entre los factores que propiciaron el presentismo destacaron la falta de pruebas de COVID-19, la preocupación por los pacientes, compañeros de trabajo y gestores, así como el miedo a perder su empleo y/o beneficios económicos. Ante este escenario, los trabajadores reclamaron una nueva realidad en la que derechos como salarios dignos y condiciones laborales seguras estén garantizados. Conclusión: el contexto de pandemia reveló un agravamiento del presentismo entre los profesionales de enfermería. Los resultados apuntaron la importancia de valorar concretamente la enfermería en términos legales y más allá de los honores.


Objective: to understand the experiences of presenteeism in nursing professionals from hospital services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: qualitative study, anchored in historicaldialectical materialism. Thirty nursing workers participated in the research, divided into six online focus groups, analyzed based on Hermeneutics-Dialectics. Results: three categories of analysis emerged: "Worsening presenteeism in the pandemic context"; "Why did I go to work sick: the worker's decision or precarious work?"; "Old problems, permanent struggle". Despite the illness of professionals by COVID-19, presenteeism in the pandemic was marked by institutional pressure to return to work, mental suffering and lack of recognition and humanization. Among the factors that led to presenteeism, the lack of testing for COVID-19, concern for patients, co-workers and managers, as well as fear of losing their job and/or financial benefits, stood out. Faced with this scenario, workers called for a new reality in which rights such as decent wages and safe working conditions are guaranteed. Conclusion: the pandemic context revealed a worsening of presenteeism among nursing professionals. The results pointed to the importance of concretely valuing nursing in legal terms and beyond honors.


Objetivo: compreender as experiências de presenteísmo vivenciadas por profissionais de enfermagem de serviços hospitalares durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Apesar do adoecimento de profissionais pela COVID-19, o presenteísmo na pandemia foi marcado pela pressão institucional para retorno ao trabalho, sofrimento mental e falta de reconhecimento e humanização. Dentre os fatores que levaram ao presenteísmo, destacaram-se a falta de testagem para a COVID-19, a preocupação com pacientes, colegas de trabalho e gestores, bem como o medo de perder o emprego e/ou benefícios financeiros. Diante desse cenário, os trabalhadores clamaram por uma nova realidade na qual direitos como salários dignos e condições seguras de trabalho sejam garantidos. Conclusão: o contexto pandêmico revelou um agravamento do presenteísmo entre os profissionais de enfermagem. Os resultados apontaram para a importância da valorização concreta da enfermagem em termos legais e para além das homenagens.

Objetivo: Identificar factores asociados al presentismo laboral y la calidad de vida relacionada con la voz en docentes universitarios colombianos con clases virtuales en tiempos de COVID-19. Metodología: Estudio transversal en el que veintinueve docentes de una universidad pública de Colombia participaron. Se utilizó un cuestionario en línea en la plataforma Google Forms, en el que se incluyeron preguntas sobre sintomatología vocal, calidad de vida asociada a la voz y al presentismo laboral asociado con sintomatología vocal. El análisis estadístico se realizó utilizando el software SPSS 25 (IBM Corporation). Resultados: El análisis multivariado de los factores asociados con el presentismo mostró que cuatro variables aumentaban los días de presentimos laboral, siendo el reporte de síntomas de voz en el mes previo a la recolección de datos la variable que aumentó en mayor proporción, seguido de estado civil soltero, número de estudiantes y el factor 2 del IFV. Respecto a los factores asociados de la calidad de vida relacionada con la voz, el análisis multivariado mostró que el reporte de incomodidad física asociada con la fonación (Factor 2 del IFV) fue la única variable que permaneció estadísticamente significativa. Conclusión: La fatiga vocal y la incomodidad física asociada con la fonación, así como el estado civil, están asociados con el presentismo vocal y la calidad de vida relacionada con la voz. Estos resultados resaltan las implicaciones de la sintomatología vocal en la salud, el bienestar y la economía de los docentes y las instituciones educativas, información que es importante cuando se requiere priorizar medidas preventivas y estrategias de intervención para los síntomas de voz y la fatiga vocal en docentes.


Objective: To identify associated factors of work presenteeism and voice-related quality of life among Colombian college professors teaching online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional study with the participation of twenty-nine college professors from a public university in Colombia. An online survey on the Google Forms platform was used for data collection and included questions about voice symptoms, voice-related quality of life, and work presenteeism due to voice disorders. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 25 software (IBM Corporation). Results: Multivariate analysis showed that four variables increased the number of presenteeism days. The variable with the higher effect was voice symptoms in the month before data collection, followed by being single, the number of students, and Factor 2 of the Vocal Fatigue Index. Regarding factors associated with voice-related quality of life, multivariate analysis showed that reporting physical discomfort during phonation (Factor 2 of the Vocal Fatigue Index) was the only variable that remained statistically significant. Conclusion: Vocal fatigue and physical discomfort during phonation, as well as marital status, are associated with work presenteeism and voice-related quality of life. These results highlight the consequences of voice symptoms on health, well-being, and economy of teachers and institutions. This information is important when preventive measurements and intervention strategies for voice symptoms and vocal fatigue among teachers need to be prioritized.

This research determines the prevalence of intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) and its impact on labor productivity in the financial sector of two Latin American countries. Nine financial institutions participated in this study with surveys of 892 female employees in Bolivia and 393 in Paraguay. The results revealed that 40.1% in Bolivia and 18.7% in Paraguay experienced IPVAW. In Bolivia, this resulted in 6.686 lost workdays per year due to absenteeism and 7.640 workdays per year due to presenteeism (present but distracted). In Paraguay, 12.035 days were lost to absenteeism and 12.037 to presenteeism. This pioneering research highlights the significant influence of IPVAW on financial sector productivity and its broader economic implications.

This study determines that morbidity presents a mediating impact between intimate partner violence against women and labor productivity in terms of absenteeism and presenteeism. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used on a nationwide representative sample of 357 female owners of micro-firms in Peru. The resulting data reveals that morbidity is a mediating variable between intimate partner violence against women and absenteeism (ß = 0.213; p < .001), as well as between intimate partner violence against women and presenteeism (ß = 0.336; p < .001). This finding allows us to understand how such intimate partner violence against women negatively affects the workplace productivity in the context of a micro-enterprise, a key element in many economies across the world.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Presenteeism refers to the presence of a worker at work with reduced performance due to illness, and it is a common public health problem. Exposure to noise during production processes brings risk to workers' health. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the health profile of workers in the automotive industry and identify the association between noise perception and presenteeism among workers in the Brazilian automotive industry. DESIGN AND SETTING: This was a cross-sectional study utilizing a case study design analyzing the automotive industry in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil. METHODS: This study included 306 workers using the Presenteeism Work Limitations Questionnaire protocol. Multiple logistic regression was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Male workers with reports of headache, tension, and limited well-being at work, having perceived that noise exposure interferes with productivity, showed a positive association with the occurrence of presenteeism. Physical demand had the highest score in terms of interfering with the presenteeism index. CONCLUSION: Workers' perceptions of noise were associated with presenteeism.

Introduction: Labor judges are subjected to productivity goals associated with a workload that does not take into consideration the complexity of their work. Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between psychosocial factors, musculoskeletal problems, and presenteeism among labor judges. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 151 judges who answered a sociodemographic and occupational characterization questionnaire and the Brazilian versions of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, Health and Safety Executive - Indicator Tool, and Stanford Presenteeism Scale. The results underwent a descriptive analysis and Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated. Results: The psychosocial dimension of demands presented a higher risk of occupational stress, while role had a lower risk. Musculoskeletal problems in the neck, upper back, shoulders, and lower back were more common and affected almost 70% of the participants. Presenteeism was more affected by the avoiding distractions dimension. Almost all psychosocial dimensions had a significant correlation with musculoskeletal symptoms (p < 0.05), especially demands, which also was correlated with total presenteeism and the avoiding distractions dimension. Conclusions: The work overload observed among labor judges was related to the occurrence of musculoskeletal problems and to a high prevalence of presenteeism.


Introdução: Os magistrados trabalhistas estão sujeitos a metas de produtividade associadas a uma carga de trabalho que não contempla a complexidade do seu trabalho. Objetivos: Avaliar a relação entre fatores psicossociais, problemas osteomusculares e presenteísmo em magistrados trabalhistas. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 151 magistrados, que responderam a um questionário de caracterização sociodemográfica e ocupacional e às versões brasileiras do Questionário Nórdico de Sintomas Osteomusculares, do Health and Safety Executive ­ Indicator Tool e do Stanford Presenteeism Scale. Foram utilizadas análises descritivas e teste de correlação de Spearman. Resultados: A dimensão psicossocial de demandas apresentou um risco mais elevado de estresse ocupacional, enquanto o cargo apresentou um risco mais baixo. Problemas osteomusculares em pescoço, parte superior das costas, ombros e parte inferior das costas foram mais comuns e afetaram quase 70% dos participantes. O presenteísmo foi mais afetado pela dimensão de concentração mantida. Quase todas as dimensões psicossociais apresentaram correlação significativa com os sintomas osteomusculares (p < 0,05), principalmente demandas, que também apresentou correlação com o presenteísmo total e a dimensão de concentração mantida. Conclusões: A sobrecarga de trabalho observada entre os magistrados trabalhistas foi relacionada à ocorrência de problemas osteomusculares e à elevada prevalência de presenteísmo.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the association between the occurrence of common mental disorders with loss of productivity and presenteeism in nursing workers at a public health service. Method: This is a cross-sectional study, with 291 workers from Midwestern Brazil. Data collection carried out from October 2019 to January 2020, with instruments for sociodemographic characterization, labor and health conditions: Self Reporting Questionnaire-20, Standford Presenteeism Scale and Work Limitations Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with Mann-Whitney tests and logistic regression, respecting a significance level of 5%. Results: The occurrence of common mental disorders was 4.27 times more likely to experience presenteeism, 10.17% of compromised overall productivity, and impairment of mental/interpersonal and production demands. Conclusion: The occurrence of common mental disorders was associated with presenteeism, with repercussions in loss of productivity of nursing workers.


RESUMEN Objetivo: Investigar la asociación entre la ocurrencia de trastornos mentales comunes con pérdida de productividad y presentismo en trabajadores de enfermería de un servicio público de salud. Método: Estudio transversal, con 291 trabajadores de la región Centro-Oeste de Brasil. Recolección de datos realizada de octubre de 2019 a enero de 2020, con instrumentos de caracterización sociodemográfica, condiciones laborales y de salud: Self Reporting Questionnaire-20, Standford Presenteeism Scale y Work Limitations Questionnaire. Los datos fueron analizados mediante estadística descriptiva e inferencial, con pruebas de Mann-Whitney y regresión logística, respetando un nivel de significación del 5%. Resultados: La ocurrencia de trastornos mentales comunes fue 4,27 veces más probable de experimentar presentismo, con 10,17% de la productividad general comprometida y daños en las demandas mentales/interpersonales y de producción. Conclusión: La ocurrencia de trastornos mentales comunes se asoció al presentismo, con repercusiones en la pérdida de productividad de los trabajadores de enfermería.

Método: Estudo transversal, com 291 trabalhadores da região Centro-oeste do Brasil. Coleta de dados realizada de outubro de 2019 a janeiro de 2020, com instrumentos para caracterização sociodemográfica, condições laborais e de saúde: Self Reporting Questionnaire-20, Standford Presenteeism Scale e Work Limitations Questionnaire. RESUMO

Objetivo: analisar as evidências científicas sobre presenteísmo em profissionais da saúde publicadas entre 2008 e 2018. Métodos: revisão integrativa, utilizando os seguintes descritores controlados: presenteísmo, pessoal de saúde e saúde do trabalhador, nos idiomas português e inglês, nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health e Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Resultados: os artigos selecionados foram publicados nos últimos 4 anos da pesquisa e todos apresentaram abordagem quantitativa. Os achados foram: três diferentes conceitos de presenteísmo; diferentes períodos recordatórios; cinco instrumentos de mensuração e fatores que influenciam no presenteísmo. Conclusão: estudos que investigam o presenteísmo em profissionais de saúde ainda são escassos, e a falta de padronização de instrumentos e períodos recordatórios ocasionam vieses nos resultados encontrados na literatura e prejudicam a investigação e aplicação da temática

Objetivo: identificar a prevalência de presenteísmo em profissionais de saúde e analisar a influência de variáveis sociodemográficas e ocupacionais sobre esse fenômeno, bem como sua influência sobre o índice de capacidade para o trabalho. Método: estudo observacional, transversal com abordagem quantitativa, realizado com 299 profissionais de saúde de um hospital público de ensino. Utilizou-se os instrumentos: Índice de Capacidade para o Trabalho e a Escala de Presenteísmo de Stanford. Aplicaram-se testes de Regressão linear múltipla e de regressão logística. Resultados: a análise de regressão logística revelou que as mulheres tiveram chance 1,88 vezes maior (1,06-3,32 e p=0,03) de apresentar presenteísmo. A regressão linear múltipla mostrou influência dos seguintes preditores na capacidade para o trabalho: presenteísmo (ß=-0,35, p<0,001), sexo (ß=-0,28, p<0,001) e categoria profissional (ß=-0,12, p=0,03). Conclusão: o presenteísmo prevaleceu entre os profissionais de saúde e exerceu influência na sua capacidade para o trabalho.

The Work Ability Index and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale were used. Multiple linear regression and logistic regression tests were applied. Results: logistic regression analysis revealed that women were 1.88 times more likely (1.06-3.32 and p=0.03) to display presenteeism. Multiple linear regression showed following predictors influenced work ability: presenteeism (ß ¬= 0.35, p<0.001), gender (ß= 0.28, p<0.001) and professional category (ß= 0.12, p=0.03). Conclusion: presenteeism was prevalent among health personnel and influenced their ability to work.

Objective We measured presenteeism (continuing to attend work or other activities while sick) in a sample of healthcare workers in Jalisco, Mexico to better understand the phenomenon, which can place patients at risk of infection. Methods An online survey link was distributed to all healthcare professionals, staff, and students registered with the Jalisco Ministry of Health starting in March 2020. Completed surveys (n = 196) collected between March and July 2020 were analyzed using bivariate and descriptive statistics including Kruskal-Wallis rank sum tests and Fisher's tests. Results Most participants (67.5%) reported working while sick. Primary reasons included concerns about patients and continuity of care. Approximately 97% of respondents believed that working while sick could put patients at risk but still attended work with multiple symptoms. Conclusion These presenteeism rates and motivations are comparable to data from the US and other countries. We suggest that state and federal medical organizations address presenteeism to prevent nosocomial outbreaks.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate work productivity of adult Latin American patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with tofacitinib and biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) measured by the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) in RA questionnaire at 0- and 6-month follow-up. METHODS: This non-interventional study was performed in Colombia and Peru. Evaluated the effects of tofacitinib and bDMARDs in patients with RA after failure of conventional DMARDs. The WPAI-RA questionnaire was administered at baseline and at the 6-month (±1 month) follow-up. The results are expressed as least squares means (LSMs), and standard errors (SEs). RESULTS: One hundred patients treated with tofacitinib and 70 patients treated with bDMARDs were recruited. Twenty-eight percent of patients from the tofacitinib group and 40.0% from the bDMARDs group were working for pay at baseline. At month 6, the changes in absenteeism, presenteeism, and work impairment due to health were -18.3% (SE 7.7), -34.8% (SE 5.9), and -11.0% (SE 16.5), respectively, in the tofacitinib group and -19.4% (SE 8.0), -34.8% (SE 6.2), and -15.9% (SE 15.0), for the bDMARD group. CONCLUSION: For patients who reported working, there were improvements in presenteeism, absenteeism, and work impairment due to health in both groups. TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT03073109.

Introduction: The World Health Organization defines quality of life as " an individuals' perception of their position in life, in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns." physicians, when dealing with illness and exposing themselves to the risks of their profession, must act without compromising their own health status in view of the function performed. Objectives: To evaluate and correlate physicians' quality of life, professional illness, and presenteeism. Methods: This is an epidemiological, cross-sectional, descriptive study with an exploratory quantitative approach. Overall, 309 physicians working in Juiz de Fora, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil were interviewed and answered a questionnaire with sociodemographic and health information and the World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument-Abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: Of physicians in the sample, 57.6% fell ill during their professional activities, 35% took sickness absence, and 82.8% practiced presenteeism. The most prevalent diseases were those involving the respiratory system (29.5%), infectious or parasitic diseases (14.38%), and those involving the circulatory system (9.59%). WHOQOL-BREF scores were boas, and were influenced by sociodemographic characteristics such as sex, age, and time of professional experience. Male sex, professional experience greater than 10 years, and age above 39 years were associated with beter quality of life. Previous illness and presenteeism were negative factors. Conclusions: The participating physicians had a good quality of life in all domains. Sex, age, and time of professional experience were relevant factors. The highest score was observed in the physical health domain, followed by psychological domain, social relationships, and environment, in a descending order.


Introdução: A Organização Mundial da Saúde define qualidade de vida como "a percepção do indivíduo de sua inserção na vida, no contexto da cultura e nos sistemas de valores nos quais ele vive e em relação a seus objetivos, expectativas, padrões e preocupações". Os médicos, ao lidarem com pacientes e se exporem aos riscos da profissão, devem atuar sem comprometer seu estado de saúde frente à função desempenhada. Objetivos: Avaliar e correlacionar a qualidade de vida, o adoecimento profissional e o presenteísmo do médico. Métodos: Estudo epidemiológico de corte transversal, descritivo e exploratório, com características quantitativas. Foram entrevistados 309 médicos atuantes em Juiz de Fora, no estado de Minas Gerais, submetidos a questionário com informações sociodemográficas e de condições de saúde e ao World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument-Abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF). Resultados: Na amostra, 57,6% adoeceram durante a atuação profissional, 35% se afastaram do trabalho e 82,8% praticaram presenteísmo. As doenças mais prevalentes foram do sistema respiratório (29,5%), infectoparasitárias (14,38%) e do sistema circulatório (9,59%). As pontuações no WHOQOL-BREF foram boas, afetadas por características sociodemográficas como sexo, idade e tempo de atuação profissional. Sexo masculino, atuação superior a 10 anos e idade maior que 39 anos foram associados a melhor qualidade de vida. Adoecimento prévio e presenteísmo foram fatores negativos. Conclusões: Os médicos participantes do estudo apresentaram boa qualidade de vida em todos os domínios. Sexo, idade e tempo de atuação profissional mostraram-se fatores relevantes. A melhor nota foi observada no domínio físico, com pontuações decrescentes nos domínios psicológico, social e ambiental.

The scientific literature about presenteeism among farm workers is scarce. This study estimated the prevalence of and factors associated with presenteeism among paid fruit farm workers. A cross-sectional study investigated 340 paid employees of both sexes, aged 18 years or above, who worked during the 2019 irrigated fruit harvest in the municipality of Petrolina, Northeast Brazil. Information about sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, general health status, occupational characteristics, interpersonal work aspects, and the work environment's structural characteristics was collected in a structured questionnaire. Presenteeism was established when participants reported working one or more days during the previous season despite feeling ill or when injured. Cox regression was used to estimate prevalence ratios adjusted by sex, area of residence (urban or rural), employment contract (permanent or seasonal), satisfaction with management, participation in workplace decision-making, availability of on-site healthcare facilities, and on-site availability of sunscreen. The prevalence of presenteeism during the previous season was high: 58.2%. In the final multivariate model, the adjusted prevalence ratio was higher (≥1.20) among female workers (1.42), workers dissatisfied with management (1.28), and those for whom sunscreen was not available on site (1.61). The prevalence of presenteeism was high and associated with personal, work organizational, and workplace resources characteristics.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic, work and health profile of nursing professionals working in university outpatient clinics and their association with presenteeism. Method: Cross-sectional study carried out with 388 nursing workers from 11 university outpatient units in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the SPS-6 scale were used. The crossed-product odds ratio and their respective 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results: Presenteeism was found in more than half of the professionals (51%, n=198), with the odds ratio being 2.12 times higher (95% CI 1.02-4.40) in professionals with a stable work bond, 6.67 times (95% CI 2.51-17.67) in chronic patients, and 3.06 times (95% CI 1.97-4.74) in patients with absenteeism behavior. Conclusion: There is a relationship between presenteeism and the profile of nursing professionals. Many productive hours may be being lost, in view of the presenteeism behavior of the participants.

Método: Estudio transversal realizado con 388 trabajadores de enfermería de 11 unidades de consulta externa universitaria de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro. Se utilizó un cuestionario sociodemográfico y la escala SPS-6. Se calcularon razones de chances de productos cruzados y sus respectivos intervalos de confianza de 95%. Resultados: Se evidenció presentismo en más de la mitad de los profesionales (51%, n=198), siendo la razón de probabilidad 2,12 veces mayor (IC 95% 1,02-4,40) entre los profesionales con vínculo permanente, 6,67 veces (IC 95% 2,51-17,67) entre aquellos con enfermidades crónicas y 3,06 veces (IC 95% 1,97-4,74) entre los ausentes. Conclusión: Existe una relación entre el presentismo y el perfil de los profesionales de enfermería. Se concluye que muchas horas productivas pueden estarse perdiendo, teniendo en vista el comportamiento de presentismo de los participantes.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze factors associated with presenteeism in nursing workers with sociodemographic variables, health and work conditions, productivity and musculoskeletal symptoms. Methods: this is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, with 306 nursing workers from a hospital and municipal emergency room in a Brazilian capital. The Stanford Presenteeism Scale, the Work Limitations Questionnaire, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and a demographic questionnaire on nursing professionals' working conditions and health were used. Bivariate and multivariate analyzes were performed, respecting a significance level of 5%. Results: presenteeism was found in 43.8% of professionals and significant associations with CLT work (p=0.002), workplace - Intensive Care Units (p=0.008), physical exercise twice a week (p=0.008), presence of musculoskeletal symptoms, with low back pain being representative (p=0.001). The productivity loss was 8.8. Conclusions: the study confirms a high rate of presenteeism among nursing workers.

Métodos: estudio transversal, descriptivo y analítico, con 306 trabajadores de enfermería de un hospital y urgencias municipales de una capital brasileña. Se utilizo el Stanford Presenteeism Scale, el Work Limitations Questionnaire, el Cuestionario Nórdico Musculoesquelético y un cuestionario demográfico sobre las condiciones laborales y de salud de los profesionales de enfermería. Realizaron análisis bivariados y multivariados, respetando un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: se encontró presentismo en el 43,8% de los profesionales y asociaciones significativas con el régimen de trabajo celetista (p=0,002), lugar de trabajo - Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos (p=0,008), ejercicio físico dos veces por semana (p=0,008), presencia de musculoesquelético síntomas, siendo la lumbalgia representativa (p=0,001). La pérdida de productividad fue de 8.8. Conclusiones: el estudio confirma una alta tasa de presentismo entre los trabajadores de enfermería.

INTRODUCTION: Current estimates suggest that 317 million occupational accidents occur annually worldwide. OBJECTIVES: To estimate the prevalence of occupational accidents and associated variables in the Brazilian workforce. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed using data from adults aged 18 or older who participated in the National Health Survey (Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde) (2013). This study was based on participants' responses to questions regarding their history of occupational accidents in the previous 12 months. Socioeconomic, lifestyle and health-related variables were also examined. Prevalence rates and ratios were calculated using Poisson multivariate regression models (with 95% confidence intervals), followed by Wald's tests for robust variance estimation. RESULTS: The prevalence of occupational accidents was 2.79% (95% confidence interval, 2.53-3.08%). These incidents were associated with male gender (prevalence ratio = 1.42; 95% confidence interval, 1.14-1.77), living in rural areas (prevalence ratio = 1.27; 95% confidence interval, 1.06-1.62), age 18 to 24 (prevalence ratio = 2.02; 95% confidence interval, 1.20-3.40), illiteracy (prevalence ratio = 3.12; 95% confidence interval, 1.96-4.96) and having two or more chronic illnesses (prevalence ratio = 2.12; 95% confidence interval, 1.29-3.47). CONCLUSIONS: Though the prevalence of occupational accidents in the Brazilian workforce was low, these incidents were associated with multimorbidity, socioeconomic status and lifestyle variables.
