RESUMO

Objetivo: Analizar la aplicación de métodos anticonceptivos a las mujeres costarricenses entre los años 1930 y 1945. Desarrollo: En Costa Rica a mediados del siglo XX, se dieron transformaciones sociales y económicas importantes, cambios que propiciaron el deseo de tener pocos hijos y además se redujeron los “costos del control”, considerando entre estos los obstáculos de tipo cultural, religioso y familiar, que tuvieron que resolver las mujeres para modificar sus prácticas reproductivas. Conclusión: La disponibilidad de los métodos anticonceptivos para las mujeres costarricenses influyó en el descenso de la natalidad, además de la aplicación del Programa Nacional de Planificación Familiar y Educación Sexual.


Objective: This paper intends to analyze the application of contraceptives to women in Costa Rica between 1930 and 1945. Main thesis: In Costa Rica, during the mid-twentieth century, there were important social and economic changes that led to the desire to have fewer children, and also “control costs” were reduced, considering among these, the barriers of cultural, religious and family type that women had to resolve to modify their reproductive practices. Conclusion: The availability of contraception for Costa Rican women influenced the declining birth rate, as well as the implementation of the National Family Planning and Sexual Education Program.
