OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of combining a Pilates program with photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP). METHODS: Thirty-eight adults with CNLBP were randomly assigned to two groups: Pilates exercise + active PBMT (PIL + PBMT) or Pilates exercise + sham PBMT (PIL + SHAM). Both groups performed an 8-week mat Pilates program and received PBMT on their lumbar muscles 10 min before and after each session. The following variables were assessed before and after intervention: peak pain intensity, postural balance (i.e., center of the pressure [A-COP], velocity anteroposterior [Vel AP], and velocity mediolateral [Vel ML]), perceived disability (i.e., Oswestry Disability Index [ODI] and Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire [RMDQ]), and pain-related fear of movement (i.e., Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia [TSK], Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire [FABQ], and Pain Catastrophizing Scale [PCS]). RESULTS: Postural balance variables showed no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) across time or between groups. The groups showed similar (p < 0.05) reductions in peak pain intensity, ODI, RMDQ, and PCS scores, but no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in TSK and FABQ scores. CONCLUSION: The mat Pilates program reduced peak pain intensity, perceived disability, and pain catastrophizing in adults with CNLBP, but PBMT had no additional effect on these variables. Mat Pilates alone or combined with PBMT was not able to improve postural balance.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a neglected disease caused by Leishmania parasites. The oral drug miltefosine is effective, but there is a growing problem of drug resistance, which has led to increasing treatment failure rates and relapse of infections. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) combines a light source and a photoactive drug to promote cell death by oxidative stress. Although PDT is effective against several pathogens, its use against drug-resistant Leishmania parasites remains unexplored. Herein, we investigated the potential of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as wearable light sources, which would enable at-home use or ambulatory treatment of CL. We also assessed its impact on combating miltefosine resistance in Leishmania amazonensis-induced CL in mice. The in vitro activity of OLEDs combined with 1,9-dimethyl-methylene blue (DMMB) (OLED-PDT) was evaluated against wild-type and miltefosine-resistant L. amazonensis strains in promastigote (EC50 = 0.034 µM for both strains) and amastigote forms (EC50 = 0.052 µM and 0.077 µM, respectively). Cytotoxicity in macrophages and fibroblasts was also evaluated. In vivo, we investigated the potential of OLED-PDT in combination with miltefosine using different protocols. Our results demonstrate that OLED-PDT is effective in killing both strains of L. amazonensis by increasing reactive oxygen species and stimulating nitric oxide production. Moreover, OLED-PDT showed great antileishmanial activity in vivo, allowing the reduction of miltefosine dose by half in infected mice using a light dose of 7.8 J/cm2 and 15 µM DMMB concentration. In conclusion, OLED-PDT emerges as a new avenue for at-home care and allows a combination therapy to overcome drug resistance in cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has been advocated as a potential intervention to improve muscle performance and recovery in the health and sports context. However, the short- and long-term effects of PBMT on endurance running performance remain under-researched and controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute dose-response effect of PBMT with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on endurance performance and rating of perceived exertion (RPE; 6-20 Borg) during a 5-km running trial in recreational runners. In a crossover design, eighteen young adult runners (28.7 ± 7.8 years) were randomized to receive 1 of 4 PBMT conditions (placebo, 300, 900, and 1260 Joules [J]) 60 min before the 5-km running trial on four occasions, separated by a 2-wk washout period. The treatments were applied to the quadriceps, hamstrings, and gastrocnemius muscles of both legs using a device containing 200 LEDs (100 red and 100 infrared). The following variables were assessed: endurance performance (i.e. total time, mean velocity, and velocity in the split distances at the initial 200 m and every 400 m lap) and RPE in the split distances at the initial 200 m and every 400 m lap. Data normality and homogeneity were tested using Shapiro-Wilk's and Levene's tests, respectively. Differences between treatment conditions were assessed using the analysis of variance tests (one- or two-way ANOVA, depending on the comparisons), complemented by the Bonferroni post hoc test. There were significant time effects for the running velocity and RPE in the split distances (p < 0.0001), with no significant treatment-by-time interaction (running velocity, p = 0.59; RPE, p = 0.95). The mean velocity (p = 0.997), total time (p = 0.998), and total mean of the RPE (p = 0.91) were similar between treatment conditions. In conclusion, acute PBMT with LEDs at doses of 300, 900, and 1260 J is not recommended for improving endurance performance and RPE in the 5-km running trial in recreational runners.

Objective: To conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the effects of Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy on running performance. Introduction: PBM has recently been advocated as a valuable non-pharmacological ergogenic strategy, however, the efficacy of PBM on running performance remains unproven. Methods: A computerized literature search was conducted until June 2023. The databases searched were PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. Inclusion/exclusion criteria were determined through the PICO process. The running variables analyzed were time-trial or time-to-exhaustion. Results were combined with the standardized mean differences (SMD) and the 95% confidence intervals. Results: Twelve studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. No significant effects in favor of PBM were found (SMD = 0.13; p = 0.11). There was no effect considering the presence (SMD = 0.16; p = 0.38) and absence (SMD = 0.11; p = 0.25) of training, and there was no dose-response effect (p = 0.82). Conclusion: Our findings indicate that PBM alone or combined with a training program does not improve running performance in terms of time-trial and time-to-exhaustion testing. More studies involving PBM plus training and doses higher than 1000 J are needed to determine if PBM is effective in improving running performance.

Three tetraaryl-1,4-dihydropyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole derivatives containing different number of long alkoxy chains (2, 4 and 6) were synthesized, characterized and applied in Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). The compounds showed good emission properties with Photoluminescence Quantum Yields (PLQYs) higher than 80 % in solution and 50 % in solid state (thin film). The solvatochromism results revealed a pronounced vibronic emission in methylcyclohexane and toluene, characterized by two distinct sharp emission peaks and a small redshift in the following order: methylcyclohexane>toluene>dichloromethane>tetrahydrofuran>acetonitrile. Also, the compounds formed aggregates with redshifted emission, which can be attributed to excimer formation. This phenomenon was observed in solutions containing 90 % water and with the concentration variation in methylcyclohexane (MCH). Compounds with a greater number of peripheral chains showed the capacity to keep hexagonal columnar organization in films after fast cooling from liquid state. OLEDs fabricated with these compounds showed turn-on voltages lower than 4.0 V, with luminance higher than 1400 cd m-2 , electroluminescence spectra with Full Width at Half Maximum lower than 70 nm and maximum External Quantum Efficiency between 7.2 % and 4.3 %. Overall, this shows that the 1,4-dihydropyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole moiety is promising for applications where luminescence is paramount, as in organic light-emitting devices.

Since the reporting of Endre Mester's results, researchers have investigated the biological effects induced by non-ionizing radiation emitted from low-power lasers. Recently, owing to the use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), the term photobiomodulation (PBM) has been used. However, the molecular, cellular, and systemic effects involved in PBM are still under investigation, and a better understanding of these effects could improve clinical safety and efficacy. Our aim was to review the molecular, cellular, and systemic effects involved in PBM to elucidate the levels of biological complexity. PBM occurs as a consequence of photon-photoacceptor interactions, which lead to the production of trigger molecules capable of inducing signaling, effector molecules, and transcription factors, which feature it at the molecular level. These molecules and factors are responsible for cellular effects, such as cell proliferation, migration, differentiation, and apoptosis, which feature PBM at the cellular level. Finally, molecular and cellular effects are responsible for systemic effects, such as modulation of the inflammatory process, promotion of tissue repair and wound healing, reduction of edema and pain, and improvement of muscle performance, which features PBM at the systemic level.

Ternary I-III-VI quantum dots (TQDs) are semiconductor nanomaterials that have been gradually incorporated in the fabrication of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) over the last 10 years due to their physicochemical and photoluminescence properties, such as adequate quantum yield values, tunable wavelength emission, and easy synthesis strategies, but mainly because of their low toxicity that allows them to be excellent candidates to compete with conventional Cd-Pb-based QDs. This review addresses the different strategies to obtain TQDs and how synthesis conditions influence their physicochemical properties, followed by the LEDs parameters achieved using TQDs. The second part of the review summarizes how TQDs are integrated into LEDs and white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). Furthermore, an insight into the state-of-the-art LEDs development using TQDs, including its advantages and disadvantages and the challenges to overcome, is presented at the end of the review.

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and light-emitting diode (LED) are currently deployed as promissory treatments for skin repair; however, the mechanisms of their association are not yet evidenced. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effects of combined treatment with EGF and red LED on the wound healing processes in rats. Adult Wistar rats were randomized in control group (CG) wounds without treatment; wounds submitted to EGF treatment (EGF); wounds submitted to LED treatment (LED); wounds submitted to EGF associated with LED treatments (EGF/LED). Treatments were performed immediately after the surgical procedure and each 24 h, totaling 8 sessions. Moreover, LED was applied before EGF treatment at a single point in the center of the wound. Morphological characteristics and the immunoexpression of COX-2, VEGF, and TGF-ß were measured. The results demonstrated that EGF/LED group presented a higher wound healing index. Additionally, all experimental groups presented similar findings in the histological evaluation, the degree of inflammation, and the area of dermis-like tissue. However, for EGF-treated animals (with or without LED), neoepithelial length was higher. Furthermore, all the treated groups decreased COX-2 and increased VEGF immunoexpression, and only EGF/LED group enhanced the TGF-ß protein expression when compared to the untreated group. This research shows that EGF and LED modulate inflammatory process and increase the vascularity. In addition, treatment of EGF associated with LED promoted a more evident positive effect for increasing TGF-ß expression and may be promising resources in the clinical treatment of cutaneous wounds.

A 10-week-old male, Xoloitzcuintle (Mexican hairless dog), weighing 8.9 kg was presented after its owner accidentally stepped on its paw. The dog presented with acute pain, inflammation and grade IV lameness in the right hind paw. A complete transverse fracture in the right proximal tibia was diagnosed from radiography. The dog underwent a minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) procedure. After surgery, photobiomodulation therapy combined with static magnetic field (PBMT-sMF) was applied twice daily for 21 days. A multi-wavelength PBMT-sMF device was applied at three sites using different frequencies: proximal and distal of the fracture zone (3000 Hz, 40.35 J per site, and 300 s per site) and in the fracture zone (250 Hz, 39.11 J and 300 s per site). Follow up radiographies were performed after surgery and treatment with PBMT-sMF. Eighteen days post-surgery the healing process of bone was advanced. Fifty-five days post-surgery the callus was enlarged. In addition, radiographic union and clinical union was evidenced by closure of the fracture gap. This case report has reported the use of PBMT-sMF in order to accelerate and improve bone healing following a MIPO procedure on a complete transverse fracture in the proximal tibia of a puppy.

This study evaluated the influence of photobiomodulation (PBM) using low-level laser therapy (PBM/LLLT) or light-emitting diode (PBM/LED) therapy on peri-implant tissue healing. A laboratory model was used to assess the adhesion and metabolism of osteoblasts (SaOs-2), human gingival fibroblasts (HGF), and normal oral keratinocytes (NOK) seeded on a titanium (Ti) surface. After seeding the cells on disks of Ti placed in wells of 24-well plates, three irradiations were performed every 24 h at energy density of 3 J/cm2. For PBM/LLLT, a LaserTABLE device was used with a wavelength of 780 nm and 25 mW, while for PBM/LED irradiation, a LEDTABLE device was used at 810 nm, 20 mW, at a density of 3 J/cm2. After irradiations, the number of cells (NC) attached and spread on the Ti surface, cell viability (CV), total protein (TP), and collagen (Col) synthesis were assessed. Alkaline phosphate activity (ALP) was evaluated only for SaOs-2. Data were submitted to ANOVA complemented by Turkey statistical tests at a 5% significance level. PBM significantly increased adherence of NOK to the Ti surface, while no significant effect was observed for SaOs-2 and HGF. PBM positively affected CV, as well as Col and TP synthesis, in distinct patterns according to the cell line. Increased ALP activity was observed only in those cells exposed to PBM/LLLT. Considering cell specificity, this investigation reports that photobiomodulation with low-power laser and LED at determined parameters enhances cellular functions related to peri-implant tissue healing in a laboratory model.

Photobiomodulation is widely used in clinical practice, and there is increasing interest in using this tool to treat numerous dysfunctions in living organisms. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the action of blue and red light-emitting diode light in cells. Human fibroblast cell line (HFF-1) were irradiated by blue (470 nm) or red (658 nm) light at doses of 4 and 18 J/cm2, respectively. Laboratory analyses were carried out to check for viability, proliferation, cell death, and the formation of reactive oxygen and nitric oxide species. The blue light demonstrated cell protection potential by reducing free radical formation and protecting the cell membrane by decreasing double-stranded DNA strands. On the other hand, the red light showed less potential for cell protection due to the risk of associating more significant nitric oxide formation with increased reactive oxygen species formation, in addition to having a greater amount of extracellular DNA. Cell damage prevention is a potential beneficial effect of blue light at 18 J/cm2. Despite the consolidated effects of red light in treating wounds, there was a potential toxic effect of this wavelength in the doses studied. Given the above, new studies relating these parameters with pathological cells or aggressors that simulate damage may offer results that can better support clinical practice.

Low red-LED irradiances are an attractive alternative for enhancing microalgae photobioreactors treating digestate due to their potential contribution in decreasing area footprints with low energy consumptions. However, more information is required regarding the influence of digestate load on treatment performance and biomass valorisation when low-intensity red-LEDs are applied. Thus, this study assessed microalgae-based photobioreactors treating food waste digestate under different concentrations (5%, 25%, 50%, and 75%, v/v) at low red-LED irradiance (15 µmol·m-2·s-1). The removal efficiencies of soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD) at the end of the experiment ranged from 45% to 75% when treating influent loads between 5.3 and 79.1 g sCOD·m-3·d-1 (5% and 75%-digestate), respectively. Total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) was applied in loading rates between 3.2 and 48.5 g TAN·m-3·d-1 (5% and 75%, respectively) and removed with maximum efficiencies of 90%-100% in all trials. Nitrification-denitrification was proportionally more relevant when treating 5%-digestate, whereas volatilisation was the primary process in 25%, 50% and 75% concentrations. Microalgae presented adequate yields in all treatments, except in 75%-digestate, likely due to the blocking of light by the high solids concentrations. The assessment of the microalgae community and chlorophyll-a and carotenoids suggested that chlorophytes, mainly Dictyosphaerium pulchellum and Scenedesmus sp. grew autotrophically, whereas cyanobacteria Pseudanabaena sp. grew mixotrophically. Moreover, the sustainability of red LED lighting applications can be increased by anaerobic digestion or agricultural valorisation of the biomass, enabled by its high N and P contents. Low-intensity red-LEDs may have promissory applications in the treatment of high-strength wastewaters.

Disinfection of surfaces by ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation is gaining importance in diverse applications. However, there is generally no accepted computational procedure to determine the minimum irradiation times and UV-C doses required for reliable and secure disinfection of surfaces. UV-C dose distributions must be comparable for devices presently on the market and future ones, as well as for the diverse surfaces of objects to be disinfected. A mathematical model is presented to estimate irradiance distributions. To this end, the relevant parameters are defined. These parameters are the optical properties of the UV-C light sources, such as wavelength and emitted optical power, as well as electrical features, like radiant efficiency and consumed power. Furthermore, the characteristics and geometry of the irradiated surfaces as well as the positions of the irradiated surfaces in relation to the UV-C light sources are considered. Because mercury (Hg) lamps are competitive with UV-C light-emitting diodes, a comparative analysis between these two light sources based on the simulation results is also discussed.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the best energy dose of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) able to improve muscle performance and reduce fatigue during multiple-set knee extension exercise. Methods: Eighteen physically active men participated in this study. Each participant performed an isokinetic exercise protocol (5 sets of 10 knee extension repetitions, maximum contractions at 60°·s-1) in 6 sessions, 1 week apart. Control condition (no PBMT/placebo treatments) was applied at the first and sixth sessions. Placebo or PBMT with 135, 270, or 540 J/quadriceps was randomly applied from the second to fifth sessions. Placebo/PBMT treatments were always applied at two moments: 6 h before and immediately before exercise. The isometric and isokinetic concentric peak torques were assessed before and after the exercise protocol. Results: The knee extension exercise performance (total work performed during exercise) was not affected by PBMT (135, 270, and 540 J) compared with placebo treatment. However, all PBMT treatments (135, 270, and 540 J) led to lower percentage drop compared with placebo and control conditions on isometric peak torque (IPT), concentric peak torque (CPT), and concentric work (W). All PBMT doses led to possibly positive or likely positive effects on IPT, CPT, and W compared with placebo. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that PBMT with 135, 270, and 540 J applied at two moments (6 h before and immediately before exercise) was able to produce the same total work with lower fatigue, which may facilitate the performance of additional sets (i.e., higher training volume).

INTRODUCTION: Effectiveness of light-emitting diode (LED) in biological tissue is due to the correct application of physical parameters. However, most studies found do not provide complete information on the physical characteristics of the diodes. It is necessary to carefully evaluate the diode parameters so that the results of research with this feature can be reproduced. The objective of this study was to develop a light-emitting device using LED, with proper measurements for application in clinical research. It was used 267 LEDs, powered with 12-V voltage and fixed on a plate of ethylene-vinyl acetate (25 × 42 cm), equidistant at 1.0 cm. For the calculation of red and infrared irradiation, a spectrometer was used, and the data were processed in routines implemented in the OriginPro 8.5.0 SR1 Software. The irradiance was determined by the integration of the spectral irradiation in the LED emission region. The red LED has a wavelength of 620 ± 10 nm, a power density of 52.86 mW/cm2, power of 6.6 mW, and total power of 1.76 W on the device. The infrared LED has a wavelength of 940 ± 10 nm, power density 33.7 mW/cm2, power of 6 mW, and total power of 1.6 W on the device. The LED characterization enables the generation and application of energy with greater precision and reproducibility. Besides, it is a light source, a device capable of framing large areas, reducing the time and cost of the application in different clinical conditions related to neuromuscular performance or rehabilitation.

Transcranial photobiomodulation is an innovative method for the stimulation of neural activity which consists of the exposure of neural tissue to low-level light irradiance. In the present study, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were used as light source due to their practicality and low cost. The objective was to analyze the effects of transcranial photobiomodulation using 945-nm LED in university students with anxiety and depression. Sample was composed of 22 individuals (17-25 years of age) divided into 2 groups of 11. LED group was treated with 945-nm LEDs for 1 min and 25 s (9.35 J/cm2), while in the placebo group, the device was off when placed in contact with the frontal bone for the same amount of time as in treatment group. Participants were evaluated at baseline and after 30 days with the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS), the faces test, the designs test, and the grip strength test. On the HADS for anxiety, the mean PAB, PAA, PhAB, and PhAA were 13.89 ± 3.55, 12.82 ± 3.18, 10.75 ± 2.49, and 6.66 ± 2.50 points, respectively. In the HADS for depression, the mean for the PDB group was 13.89 ± 3.55 points, in the PhDB group 12.82 ± 3.18 points, in the PDA group 10.75 ± 2.49 points, and in the PhDA group 6.66 ± 2.50 points. In the PA and PD groups, mean values of 8.0 ± 1.5 and 8.9 ± 1.26 scores were obtained, but did not reach significance; however, between PA and PhD analysis, a significance level of p = 0.0003 was obtained. The 945-nm LED transcranial photobiomodulation improves brain activity and may clinically decrease anxiety and depression.

Introducción: El potencial evocado visual es una técnica que permite la evaluación de la integridad funcional de la vía visual; su aplicación en niños pequeños resulta de gran dificultad. Objetivo: Caracterizar desde el punto de vista fisiológico el potencial evocado visual en niños menores de 5 años. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo transversal, donde se registran respuestas visuales obtenidas con diodos (montados en gafas) en 112 niños sanos (65 varones, 47 hembras) con rango de edad entre 3 meses y 5 años. Se calcularon los valores medios y desviación estándar de latencias y amplitudes de cada componente de la respuesta y se estimaron sus dinámicas madurativas en función de la edad. Se utilizó un análisis de componentes principales para explicar la variabilidad morfológica (complejo N1-P1-N2) y, se calculó una ecuación discriminante (con indicadores de replicación y relación señal/ruido), para evaluar la contribución en su mejor detección. Resultados: La morfología típica encontrada resultó consistente, replicable y mostró un nivel de detección visual > 90 por ciento (para cada componente), con 85 por ciento de acierto global (clasificaciones correctas) mediante la ecuación discriminante. El complejo N1-P1-N2, consigue explicar > 70 por ciento de la varianza de esta respuesta. Se demostró un acortamiento significativo de latencia con la edad (regresión, p≤ 0,05) para los componentes N1, P1 (marginal, N2). Los valores de amplitud resultaron de mayor dispersión y su tendencia al incremento no alcanzó significación. Conclusiones: El registro del potencial evocado visual mediante diodos/gafas demuestra la obtención de respuestas fisiológicas consistentes y replicables (alta detectabilidad) con una variabilidad morfológica controlable(AU)


Introduction: The Visual Evoked Potentials is a neurophysiological technique to provide an objective assessment of the functional integrity of the visual pathway. However, the young children population is a particularly difficult (uncooperative) group to obtain visual responses. Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe electrophysiological characteristics of the visual response in children. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study. Transient visual evoked potentials with goggles were recorded from 112 healthy children (65 males, 47 females) aged between 3 months to 5 years old. The mean (and standard deviations) for latencies and amplitudes of each component was calculated and both statistical significance in function of age was analyzed (linear regression model). Principal component analysis is use to explain the visual waveform variability. A discriminant equation (with indicators of reliability and noise/signal ratio) is calculate to evaluate contribution in detectability. Results: The typical waveform of (N1, P1, N2, components) is consistent and reliable and showed a visual detection level >90 percent (for each component) and 85 percent of global success (good classifications) with the discriminant equation. N1-P1-N2 complex is able to explain >70 percent of the visual response variance. A significant reduction of N1, P1 (N2, marginal) latencies with increasing age is demonstrated (linear regression, p≤0.05). There was no significant difference for age-dependent increased pattern of amplitude data (high variability). Conclusions: The visual evoked potentials/goggles obtained in infants and young children are consistent and reliable physiological responses (high detectability) with recognizable morphological variability(AU)

Lippia rotundifolia Cham. is in the family Verbenaceae and is endemic to the Cerrado. This species is aromatic and characterized by the presence of glandular trichomes on its leaves that are rich in monoterpenes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth, photosynthetic pigment production, and chemical composition of L. rotundifolia grown in vitro under different light wavelengths and intensities. The light intensities consisted of five treatments using cool white fluorescent lamps at 20, 54, 78, 88, and 110 µmol m-2 s-1. The light quality consisted of six treatments using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in different light wavelengths, namely, white, red, blue, and their interactions: 1R:1B, 2.5R:1B, and 1R:2.5B. After 45 days, the biometric parameters, photosynthetic pigment content, and volatile compounds were evaluated. The lower light intensities of 20 and 54 µmol m-2 s-1 generated higher growth, photosynthetic pigment content, and biomass accumulation. Myrcene and pentadecane were highest under light intensities of 88 and 110 µmol m-2 s-1, respectively. The highest limonene and ocimenone levels were obtained at 20 and 54 µmol m-2 s-1 intensity, respectively, and the highest myrcenone content was obtained at 78 µmol m-2 s-1 intensity. Regarding the light wavelengths, the combination of red and blue spectra further stimulated plantlet growth, and the 2.5R:1B combination obtained the best biometric data and total chlorophyll content. The z-ocimenone chemical compound contents were highest under the 1R:2.5B light spectrum. The monochromatic blue spectrum increased the myrcene and limonene content but decreased the myrcenone content, which was increased by red light. The highest pentadecane contents were obtained with the white spectrum and the red and blue combinations.

Eu3+ -ß-diketonate complexes are used, for example, in solid-state lighting (SSL) or light-converting molecular devices. However, their low emission quantum efficiency due to water molecules coordinated to Eu3+ and low photostability are still problems to be addressed. To overcome such challenges, we synthesized Eu3+ tetrakis complexes based on [Q][Eu(tfaa)4 ] and [Q][Eu(dbm)4 ] (Q1 = C26 H56 N+ , Q2 = C19 H42 N+ , and Q3 = C17 H38 N+ ), replacing the water molecules in the tris stoichiometry. The tetrakis ß-diketonates showed desirable thermal stability for SSL and, under excitation at 390 nm, they displayed the characteristic Eu3+ emission in the red spectral region. The quantum efficiencies of the dbm complexes achieved values as high as 51%, while the tfaa complexes exhibited lower quantum efficiencies (28-33%), but which were superior to those reported for the tris complexes. The structures were evaluated using the Sparkle/PM7 model and comparing the theoretical and the experimental Judd-Ofelt parameters. [Q1][Eu(dbm)4 ] was used to coat a near-UV light-emitting diode (LED), producing a red-emitting LED prototype that featured the characteristic emission spectrum of [Q1][Eu(dbm)4 ]. The emission intensity of this prototype decreased only 7% after 30 h, confirming its high photostability, which is a notable result considering Eu3+ complexes, making it a potential candidate for SSL.

This study aimed to analyze PBMT effects on futsal player's performance and recovery in a non-controlled field environment. It is a randomized, triple-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover clinical trial. The research included six professional athletes and in each match phototherapy treatments were performed before matches (40 minutes), blood samples were collected before treatments, and samples immediately after the end of the matches and 48 h after. Furthermore, videos were analyzed to quantify the time athletes spent on the pitch and the distance they covered. PBMT was performed at 17 sites of each lower limb (40 mins before matches), employing a cluster with 12 diodes (4 laser diodes of 905 nm, 4 LEDs of 875 nm, and 4 LEDs of 640 nm, 30 J per site). The performance of the athlete could be quantified considering the time on the pitch and the distance covered; the biochemical markers evaluated were creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, blood lactate, and oxidative damage to lipids and proteins. PBMT significantly increased the time of staying in the pitch and a significant improvement in all the biochemical markers evaluated. No statistically significant difference was found for the distance covered. Pre-exercise PBMT can enhance performance and accelerate recovery of high-level futsal players.
