RESUMO
O objetivo foi revisar a literatura e discutir os conceitos oclusais em reabilitações orais com próteses totais, enfatizando as vantagens e as necessidades de cada esquema oclusal. Realizou-se uma busca nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar e em li-vros didáticos com as palavras-chave "Oclusão Dentária", "Oclusão Dentária Balanceada", "Orientação de Canino", "Planejamento de Dentadura", "Planejamento de Prótese Dentá-ria" e "Prótese Total" e com os operadores booleanos AND (E), OR (OU), NOT (MENOS). Dentro dos esquemas oclusais disponíveis para o planejamento protético, a oclusão balan-ceada bilateral (OBB) e a oclusão guiada pelo canino (OGC) foram as mais estudadas e discutidas na desoclusão de próteses totais. Os estudos indicam que o tipo de oclusão pode interferir na atividade muscular do sistema estomatognático, na eficiência mastigatória, na reabsorção óssea, na retenção e estabilidade das próteses removíveis e na satisfação do pa-ciente. Na literatura examinada, foi perceptível a recomendação da OGC como o esquema oclusal de preferência no planejamento das próteses totais, pois os resultados dos estudos indicam menor atividade muscular durante a mastigação, melhor retenção e estabilidade da prótese total. A OGC é o esquema oclusal mais simples e fácil de ser obtido comparada à OBB, beneficia a fonética, é esteticamente preferida pelos pacientes e, em termos de qua-lidade de vida, autopercepção da força mastigatória e oclusal, tem se mostrado satisfatória. Conclui-se que a OGC pode ser recomendada como um esquema oclusal favorável para as reabilitações orais com próteses totais.Descritores: Oclusão Dentária. Oclusão Dentária Balanceada. The aim was to review the literature and discuss the occlusal concepts in oral rehabilitation with complete dentures, emphasizing the advantages and needs of each occlusal scheme. A search was carried out on the databases PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar and in textbooks, using "Dental Occlusion"; "Dental Occlusion Balanced"; "Canino guidance"; "Denture complete"; and "Denture design" as keywords and the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT. Among the occlusal schemes available for prosthetic planning, the bilateral balanced occlusion (BBO) and the canine guided occlusion (CGO) were the most studied and discussed in the disocclusion of complete dentures. Studies indicate the type of occlusion can interfere with muscle activity of the stomatognathic system, masticatory efficiency, bone resorption, retention and stability of removable dentures, and patient satisfaction. In the literature examined, the recommendation of the CGO as the preferred occlusal scheme in the planning of complete dentures was noticeable. The results of the studies indicate less muscle activity during mastication, better retention, and stability of the total denture. It is simpler and easier to obtain this occlusal scheme than the BBO. CGO benefits phonetics; it is aesthetically preferred by patients; and, in terms of quality of life, self-perception of masticatory and occlusal strength, has shown to be satisfactory. We conclude that CGO can be recommended as a favorable occlusal scheme for oral rehabilitation with complete dentures.

The aim was to discuss the indications, contraindications, advantages, and disadvantages of Nonmetal clasp dentures (NMCDs), as well as the most relevant properties of its constituent materials. A search was conducted using the keywords: "nonmetal clasp dentures," "thermoplastic resin," "flexible resin removable partial denture," "polyamide," and "nylon" in databases PubMed/Medline, Lilacs, SciELO, and textbooks between 1955 and 2020. Theses and texts without reliable sources of publication were excluded. Once the analysis instruments were determined, the data were analyzed and discussed. NMCDs present high flexibility, easy adaptation to the abutments, color compatibility and biocompatibility with the oral mucosa, and absence of visible metal clasps. However, they need laboratory relining, grinding, and polishing, do not have criteria for its planning, become rougher and stained over time, and are able to traumatize supporting tissues. The association with metal components seems to be an alternative to increase the success of NMCDs by combining esthetics and biomechanical principles of conventional removable partial dentures. The lack of long-term clinical studies makes the professionals to rely solely on previous experiences or on the manufacturers' recommendations. It suggested that NMCDs must be indicated with caution when not used temporarily.

To clinically evaluate the patient satisfaction and associated costs of dentures made using a simplified procedure that eliminates assembly on the articulator and dentures made with the conventional technique. Single-blind randomised clinical trial. Forty edentulous patients were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group received dentures made using the conventional method (CG), and the other using a simplified technique (SG) that omits the use of functional impressions (with modelling compound and ZOE impression paste) and an articulator to assemble the models. Overall patient satisfaction was assessed at 3 and 6 months by means of a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The comparisons were made using a repeated measures ANOVA (P = .05). No significant differences were found in terms of the satisfaction stated by the patients or the quality of the prosthesis evaluated by a professional among the dentures made using the traditional (n = 17) and simplified (n = 21) techniques. The rehabilitation of an edentulous patient with a simplified technique for the preparation of a total prosthesis is a feasible, more economical alternative and accepted by most patients.

Antecedentes: En los últimos 15 años, la robótica ha incursionado en el campo de la prostodoncia total a través de la cual se han desarrollo técnicas clínicas y de laboratorio para elaborar dentaduras. Objetivo: Rehabilitar un paciente desdentado total con una técnica actual que utiliza la robótica y acrílicos industrializados. Descripción del caso: El tratamiento prostodóntico de un paciente desdentado total superior e inferior se realizó mediante tecnología de diseño y manufacturación asistidas por computador (CAD-CAM). Resultado: Se emplearon impresiones digitales y acrílicos industriales de alto rendimiento, así como escáner, programa de computador y fresadora. El caso fue exitoso en cuanto a estabilidad, retención y soporte del tratamiento efectuado.
Background: In the last 15 years, robotics has started to be used in the field of complete denture prosthodontics through the development of clinical and laboratory techniques to elaborate dentures. Purpose: To rehabilitate an edentulous patient with an innovative technique using robotics and industrialized acrylics. Description of the case: Prosthodontic treatment of a completely edentulous patient was performed using computer-assisted design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology. Results: Digital impressions and industrial acrylics, as well as scanner, software, and dental milling machine. The case was successful regarding stability, retention, and support of the treatment carried out.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi realizar uma revisão da literatura científica atual, a fim de discutir os aspectos cirúrgicos, protéticos e psicológicos/psicossociais durante o planejamento reverso de pacientes edêntulos, frente à utilização de próteses tipo protocolo e overdenture. Para a identificação dos estudos da revisão, foi realizada uma busca para os seguintes bancos de dados: PubMed, Dentistry and Oral Sciences Source, Journals@Ovid, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, Nature (NPG), Oxford Journals. Foram utilizados como descritores: overdenture e total fixed prostheses. Os critérios de inclusão foram: artigos clínicos, relato de casos clínicos, casos seriados, revisões de literatura e revisões sistemáticas que abordaram o estudo e a comparação das próteses tipo protocolo e overdenture durante o planejamento cirúrgico-protético. Os critérios de exclusão foram: artigos laboratoriais, estudos in vitro e aqueles cujo idioma não foi o inglês ou o português. De um total de 454 artigos, após uma análise segundo o critério de inclusão e exclusão, foram selecionados 76 artigos. Em se tratando de uma reabilitação de próteses sobre implantes em arcos totalmente desdentados, a utilização de procedimentos alternativos parece ser eficaz, quando comparados às técnicas cirúrgicas mais invasivas e, desse modo, a quantidade de implantes dentários possíveis de serem instalados, associados a aspectos protéticos, como suporte labial, linha do sorriso, quantidade e qualidade de mucosa, fonética e etc, irão possibilitar um planejamento reverso mais adequado para cada caso
The aim of his study was to review the current scientific literature in order to discuss the surgical, prosthetics and psychological/psychosocial aspects during the treatment planning of edentulous patients, when a total fixed prosthesis or overdenture is indicated. To identify studies to take part in this review, a search was conducted for the following databases: PubMed, Dentistry and Oral Sciences Source, Journals@Ovid, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, Nature (NPG), Oxford Journals. It was used as descriptors: total fixed prostheses and overdentures. Inclusion criteria were: clinical articles, clinical case reports, case series, literature reviews and systematic reviews that addressed the study and comparison of total fixed prostheses and overdentures for a surgical- prosthetic planning. Exclusion criteria were: laboratory and in vitro studies and those whose first language was not English or Portuguese. Of a total of 454 articles, after an analysis according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 76 articles were selected. During an implantsupported prosthesis rehabilitation with dental in edentulous patients, the use of alternative procedures appear to be effective when compared to more invasive surgical techniques, and thus, the amount of dental implants possible to install associated with prosthetic issues such as lip support, smile line, quantity and quality of mucosa, phonetics, etc., will allow an appropriate treatment planning to each clinical case

A prótese total imediata é definida como uma prótese total ou parcial removível, confeccionada para ser instalada imediatamente após a extração dos dentes naturais. Esse tipo de prótese pode ser usado por um curto período de tempo, por razões estéticas, mastigatória, suporte oclusal, conveniência ou para a adaptação do paciente do estado dentado ao desdentado, até que a prótese definitiva seja instalada. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi relatar o planejamento cirúrgico-protético da reabilitação de uma paciente, por meio de prótese total imediata maxilar, bem como os resultados obtidos com essa modalidade de tratamento. As próteses totais imediatas representam um procedimento clínico necessário, consagrado, vantajoso e eficaz para pacientes que, inevitavelmente, deixarão de apresentar uma condição dentada ou dentada parcial, apesar de ser uma abordagem ligeiramente mais cara e que requer mais sessões de atendimento para controle do que a prótese total convencional
The immediate complete denture is defined as a removable or partial denture made to be installed immediately after the extraction of the natural teeth. This type of prosthesis can be used for a short period of time, for aesthetic reasons, mastication, occlusal support, convenience or for the adaptation of the patients to the edentulous state, until the final prosthesis is installed. The objective of this study was to report a surgical and prosthetic rehabilitation planning of a patient by means of an immediate complete maxillary denture, and the results obtained with this treatment modality. The immediate complete denture is a necessary, well-established, useful and effective prosthetic procedure for patients who, inevitably, will present an edentulous state, despite it is a slightly more expensive and it requires more sessions for adjustment of the prosthesis than the complete dentures
