The exploration potential within deep-water petroliferous basins holds great promise for oil and gas resources. However, the dearth of geochemical and isotopic data poses a formidable challenge in comprehending the intricate hydrocarbon charging processes, thereby impeding the comprehensive understanding of hydrocarbon accumulation mechanisms and models. Consequently, the establishment of robust source-reservoir relationships in deep-water petroliferous basins represents a pivotal challenge that significantly influences the exploration strategies and the comprehension of hydrocarbon enrichment dynamics within such basins. In this study, we introduce a novel approach, termed the "source-reservoir dynamic evaluation method," tailored to investigate reservoir accumulation models in deep-water petroliferous basins. This method uses basin simulation technology to recover the thermal evolution history and hydrocarbon generation and expulsion history of source rocks, and on this basis delimits the hydrocarbon kitchen range. At the same time, the maturity of source rocks corresponding to crude oil and natural gas in typical reservoirs is calculated. Then, when the thermal evolution degree of source rocks adjacent to the reservoir reaches this maturity, the corresponding geological period is the main charging period of hydrocarbon. As a typical deep-water petroliferous basin, the Santos Basin in Brazil has abundant oil and gas reservoirs under the thick salt rock, but there are still some fundamental problems such as unclear oil-gas accumulation process and model. Therefore, in this paper, the main charging periods of typical hydrocarbon reservoirs are determined based on the internal relationship between the thermal evolution history of the main source rocks and the maturity of crude oil and natural gas, and then the hydrocarbon accumulation process is analyzed and the dynamic accumulation model is established. Finally, the favorable prospecting direction is pointed out. The results show that the oil and gas in the Barra Velha Formation in the Santos basin are mainly derived from the Itapema Formation lacustrine shale source rock, and the source rock is mainly developed in the Eastern Sag of the Central Depression, and its main hydrocarbon generation period is from the deposition period of Florianopolis Formation to the deposition period of Santos Formation. The main hydrocarbon expulsion period was from the deposition period of the Santos Formation to the Early deposition of the Iguape Formation. The oil and gas in the Barra Velha Formation were mainly charged from the Late deposition period of the Santos Formation to the Early deposition period of the Iguape Formation. During this period, the hydrocarbon migrated vertically along the normal fault formed in the rift period to the trap of the adjacent inheritance structural highs and accumulated in the reservoir, which was dominated by the accumulation model of the "lower generation-upper reservoir-salt cap". Since the Barra Velha Formation has the characteristics of near-source accumulation, based on the hydrocarbon expulsion center and hydrocarbon expulsion intensity of the source rock of the Itapema Formation, the distribution ranges of 85% and 50% Pre-salt accumulation probability in the Santos basin were calculated by using the quantitative analysis model of the hydrocarbon distribution threshold. It is suggested that the next oil and gas exploration should be carried out in the paleo-structural highs and slope of Class I favorable area (the hydrocarbon accumulation probability is more than 85%) and Class II favorable area (the hydrocarbon accumulation probability is 85-50%).

Length-weight relationships (LWR) and relative condition factor were described for species of deep-water crustaceans caught with bottom trawls in a depth range between 150 and 535 m during August and December of 2009, and March and May of 2010 in the Colombian Caribbean Sea. A linear regression was performed using the logarithmically transformed data to calculate the a and b coefficients of the LWR for 22 crustacean species corresponding to 13 families and 19 genera and three types of crustaceans (shrimp, crab, lobster). Six crustacean species showed a maximum total length greater than that reported in SeaLifeBase: Garymunida longipes (77.00 mm), Eunephrops bairdii (220.00 mm), Metanephrops binghami (197.46 mm), Penaeopsis serrata (149.00 mm), Polycheles typhlops (196.27 mm) and Pleoticus robustus (240.00 mm). A total of 11 species (50.0%) exhibited isometric growth, five species (22.7%) negative allometric and six species (27.3%) positive allometric. This study shows the first estimates of LWR for 12 species of deep-water crustaceans in the Colombian Caribbean Sea. We demonstrate for the first time that the growth parameters (intercept and slope) of the LWR varying significantly as a function of the body shape of crabs, lobsters and shrimps in deep-water crustaceans.

A large adult (138 mm head length) of the grenadier genus Coryphaenoides is described. It is identified as C. affinis hitherto known only from two juvenile type specimens collected by HMS Challenger off Uruguay in 1876. The diagnosis of the species is revised to include the discovery of considerable ontogenetic changes in squamation. Spinulation on the body scales are reduced or lost with size, while the armament of the head scales become amplified. The larger of the syntype specimens is designated as the lectotype. All three known specimens of C. affinis were collected in the southwestern Atlantic at depths between 3500 and 4000 m. A key for identification for the species of the subgenus Nematonurus is provided.

Dermal denticles cover the skin of sharks for protection and may have additional functions, depending on the environment. The aim of the present study was to analyze the morphological pattern of dermal denticles across the body of the poorly known deep-water catshark Galeus mincaronei, which is endemic to Southern Brazil. Additionally, we aimed to identify differences between sexes and stages of sexual maturity. For this purpose, we analyzed patches of eight skin samples from body regions, that is, the head, body, and tail. Dermal denticles were imaged using scanning electron microscopy. Measurements of crown morphological variations (length and width) and density of dermal denticles were performed. Nine characters of dermal denticle morphology were selected to describe a morphological pattern using principal component analysis (PCA). The first PCA axis explained 45.2% of the variation, the second explained 33%, and the third explained 14.3%, together explaining 92.5% of the total variation in denticle morphology. We identified three groups of dermal denticle crown morphologies and their possible functions. The first was composed of nostril and snout denticles, which might suggest abrasion strength functions; the second was composed of most body denticles, such as those in the cranium, on the left side of the body, and on the pectoral, dorsal, and caudal fins, which might be related to generalized functions; and the third was composed of only caudal crest denticles, which might indicate defense functions with hydrodynamic properties in G. mincaronei. Likewise, our results reveal variations in dermal denticle morphology and arrangement along the three maturity stages considered in both sexes. Similarly, sexual dimorphism in the crown width and morphology of dermal denticles was observed in developing and mature individuals. Our results are the first to reveal the morphological variation of dermal denticles in relation to function, sex, and ontogeny of individual G. mincaronei.

Among the thecate hydroids brought back by the Proteus-Guyane 2017 expedition of the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle of Paris, France, from French Guiana, two interesting species are reported upon. The plumulariid Callicarpa gracilis Fewkes, 1881, known so far from the type specimen only, is comprehensively redescribed 140 years after its original description. It adopts two different morphotypes with respect to both its tropho- and gonosome, forming either simple or ramified colonies, with either structurally-complex or rudimentary phylactocarps, respectively. Taxonomic notes on the genera Callicarpa Fewkes, 1881 and Hippurella Allman, 1877 are provided in light of their intricate history of origin and fate, together with the provisional resurrection of Antomma Stechow, 1919, as an allied genus of the former. The aglaopheniid Aglaophenia trifida L. Agassiz, 1862, whose gonosome was only partly documented to date, is redescribed thoroughly based on specimens bearing male and female corbulae. Scanning electron microscopy and molecular data were also used to document both species. A checklist of the thecate hydroids from French Guiana gathered during Proteus-Guyane 2017 and Guyane 2014 expeditions is provided as an appendix, together with brief notes on some species. Not dealing with the present study, but taking advantage of it, a new name, Antennella billardi Galea, nom. nov., is proposed as a replacement name for Plumularia balei Billard, 1911, which is a permanently invalid junior primary homonym of P. balei Bartlett, 1907.

The genus Euphrosynoplax currently consists of two species, E. clausa Guinot, 1969, and E. campechiensis Vázquez-Bader & Gracia, 1991, both only known from the Gulf of Mexico. The new species can be easily separated from its northern counterparts by a suite of carapace and appendage characters. Bannereus chani sp. nov. (Caridea: Alpheidae) is described based on a single female specimen collected off south-eastern Taiwan, at a depth of 301-356 m, being the second only species in the genus Bannereus Bruce, 1988. The ovigerous female holotype of the new species differs from the female holotype of B. anomalus Bruce 1988, the type species of the genus, by a series of important morphological characters, for instance, on the major cheliped and third pereiopod, strongly indicating that they represent two distinct species. The non-type male specimen tentatively identified as B. anomalus by Bruce (1988) may well belong to the new species, since it differs from the holotype of B. anomalus essentially by the same criteria as the female holotype of B. chani sp. nov. In addition, B. anomalus is newly recorded from the New Caledonian side of the Coral Sea.

A single ovigerous female specimen of a new species of Epimeria Costa in Hope, 1851 was collected from deep sea, off southwestern Mexico, in the eastern Pacific. Epimeria karamani sp. nov., is most similar to females of E. cora J.L. Barnard, 1971, E. pacifica Gurjanova, 1995 and Epimeria morronei Winfield, Ortiz Hendrickx, 2013. However, it differs from these species by: eyes long and slightly kidney-shaped; pleonite 3 strongly carinate, with dorsal tooth produced and acute; urosomite 1 with a wide mid-dorsal notch and a strong, upright blunt tooth; coxa 3 anterior margin slightly truncate and with two processes marginally; coxa 4 ventral margin linear, with facial granules and simple setae; gnathopods palm with distal bifid setae; telson straight medially, distal margin crenulate and with minute setae. The new species described herein increases the number of Epimeria species from the Pacific Ocean to 14, and from the eastern Pacific to three.

A new genus and species in the caridean shrimp family Palaemonidae is described based on three type specimens collected at a depth range of 208-385 m off Guadeloupe, French Antilles. Zoukaris festivus gen. et sp. nov. shares many characters with several western Atlantic deep-water species currently assigned to Periclimenes Costa, 1844, as well as with the monotypic western Atlantic genus Diapontonia Bruce, 1986 and the Indo-West Pacific genus Echinopericlimenes Marin Chan, 2014. Zoukaris gen. nov. can be separated from all of them by a unique combination of morphological features, especially the configuration of the dactylus of the ambulatory pereiopods. In addition, Periclimenes milleri Bruce, 1986 is recorded from the French Antilles based on a single specimen, also from Guadeloupe; its colour pattern is illustrated for the first time.

Several deep-water mollusks collected during the Marion Dufresne MD55 expedition off SE Brazil have been studied in recent papers. The present work focuses on eight species belonging to the cerithioidean families Cerithiidae, Litiopidae, Modulidae and Planaxidae. Three species have their geographic distributions greatly expanded: Bayericerithium bayeri Petuch, 2001 from Pernambuco to Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states (north) and to Bahia and Espírito Santo states (south), Brazilian coast; Ittibittium oryza (Mörch, 1876), from the Caribbean to the SW Atlantic; and Angiola lineata (Costa, 1778), from Trindade Island, Brazil to the Abrolhos Slope, nearly 870 km westward. Four species reported herein had their bathymetric ranges greatly expanded: Alaba incerta (dOrbigny, 1841) from 0-40 m to 300 m; B. bayeri from 0-2 m to 120 m (live specimens); Litiopa melanostoma Rang, 1829 from 0-805 m to 1,550 m; Fossarus orbignyi Fischer, 1864 from 0-40 to 830 m (shells only).(AU)

The deep-water mysid, Hansenomysis lucifugus (Faxon, 1893), previously known only from the type locality off the Galapagos Islands, is rediscovered off western Mexico. A complete description is provided based on this new material. The new records correspond to a series of 15 adult females and increase the known distribution of this species by over 30° of latitude to the north, to 30°51.26'N-116°42.18'W. Although no precise depth range in the water column is known for this species, it has been collected in localities where total depth was at least 1848 m.

We describe Calicotyle hydrolagi n. sp. (Monogenea: Monocotylidae) infecting the cloaca of deep-water Eastern Pacific black ghost sharks, Hydrolagus melanophasma captured as bycatch at a local fishery for Patagonian toothfish Dissostichus eleginoides, (Nototheniidae) in the Atacama Trench using morphological and nucleotide (LSU rRNA and SSU rRNA) data. This new species is differentiated from its congeners by a number of characters, including the absence of a cecal diverticula, the size and shape of the male copulatory organ and the shape of the vagina, as well as by differences in molecular data (SSU rRNA and LSU rRNA). The suitability of some sclerotized structures such as the male copulatory organ (MCO) as a taxonomic character is discussed; specifically, we found that the relationship between MCO and total length exhibit different trends in members of Calicotyle isolated from sharks, skates and chimaeras. Additional efforts to obtain sample of Calicotyle species and further molecular studies based on ribosomal and mitochondrial genes are necessary to clarify the degree of host specificity in this genus. Additionally, this is the first report of a member of Calicotyle to be reported in the Southeastern Pacific Ocean.

The deep-water mollusks collected during the Marion Dufresne (MD55) expedition to the southeastern Brazilian coast in 1987 have been studied in several recent works. The present paper lists and diagnoses 19 species belonging to the vetigastropod families Calliostomatidae, Colloniidae, Margaritidae, and Solariellidae. A new species, Calliostoma valkuri sp. nov., is described. It is mainly characterized by a very short teleoconch I, with limits marked by conspicuous varices and sculpture consisting of 3 spiral threads; sculpture of the teleoconch II consisting of spiral cords with thorn-like projections; and the presence of two strongly marked cords on the median portion of the whorls. Based on the MD55 samples and complementary specimens from other expeditions, the following species have their geographical and/or bathymetrical range extended: Bathymophila euspira, Calliostoma gemmosum, Calliostoma rude, Callogaza watsoni, Gaza compta, Falsimargarita terespira, Homalopoma boffii, Lamellitrochus cancapae comb. nov., Lamellitrochus pourtalesi, Margarites imperialis, and Solariella quinni.

A rare species of pandalid shrimp, Heterocarpus nesisi Burukovsky, 1986, is rediscovered in deep water off western Mexico. Previous to this capture, this species was known only from the holotype, a mature male captured at 800 m depth, originally described in the genus Heterocarpus and later transferred to Plesionika. A second, unconfirmed record, was provided in 1989: a female captured at 898 m near the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Heterocarpus nesisi is redescribed and appendages are illustrated. The general morphology of this species makes it difficult to fit within Heterocarpus or Plesionika, and a new genus, Heteronika gen. nov., is proposed to accommodate it. Heteronika nesisi is associated with the lower boundary of the Oxygen Minimum Zone occurring off western Baja California.

Four oceanographic cruises were carried out between April 2011 and May 2013 on the continental slope of the southern Gulf of Mexico (GoM) in a depth range of 290 to 1200 m on board the R/V JUSTO SIERRA. A total of 91 trawls covered a total swept area of 170.49 hectares. We recorded 177 fish species belonging to 80 families. Fifteen species extended their distribution into the south of the gulf and 37 increased their depth ranges. Five species could have commercial importance: Aphanopuscarbo Lowe, 1839; Hydrolagusmirabilis (Collett, 1904); Helicolenusdactylopterus (Delaroche, 1809); Lophiusgastrophysus Miranda Ribeiro, 1915, and Merlucciusalbidus (Mitchill, 1818). The most abundant species were Polymixialowei Günther, 1859; Parasudistruculenta (Goode & Bean, 1896); M.albidus, Chlorophthalmusagassizi Bonaparte, 1840; Dibranchusatlanticus Peters, 1876; Nezumiaaequalis (Günther, 1878); Yarrellablackfordi Goode & Bean, 1896; and Laemonemabarbatulum Goode & Bean, 1883. High values of fish species richness, diversity, and evenness were registered throughout the study area. A high percentage of the fish species (97%) collected during this project are distributed in the entire GoM. Most of the species showed a wide depth distribution; however, a vertical zonation of species can be observed.

The genus Scyramathia A. Milne-Edwards, 1880 (type species Amathia carpenteri Norman in Wyville Thomson, 1873) is herein removed from the synonymy of Rochinia A. Milne-Edwards, 1875 (type species R. gracilipes A. Milne-Edwards, 1875) and a new genus, Minyorhyncha, is established for Amathia crassa A. Milne-Edwards, 1879, a species previously placed in the genus Rochinia. The genus Anamathia Smith, 1885 (type species Amathia rissoana Roux, 1828), widely regarded as a synonym of Rochinia, is confirmed as a valid genus. The morphological differences between Rochinia (as revealed by its type species), Anamathia, Scyramathia and Minyorhyncha are discussed and illustrated. The strong ontogenetic changes in Minyorhyncha crassa n. gen., n. comb. are also discussed and illustrated. Lectotypes are selected for Rochinia gracilipes A. Milne-Edwards, 1875, and Amathia agassizii Smith, 1882, a junior synonym of Minyorhyncha crassa n. gen., n. comb.
