RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Many low- and-middle-income countries are disproportionately burdened by cervical cancer, resulting in high morbidity and mortality. HPV-DNA testing coupled with treatment with thermal ablation is a recommended screening and precancer treatment strategy, but not enough is known about how this can be effectively implemented in the context of integrated services. The (Scale Up Cervical Cancer Elimination by Secondary prevention Strategy, (SUCCESS) project is conducting a study to understand this approach, integrated into existing women's health services in Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Guatemala, and the Philippines (2020-2024). METHODS: A hybrid effectiveness-implementation type III mixed-methods observational study design is used to assess feasibility, acceptability, and costs of integrated service delivery in 10 sites per country, selected considering urban/rural location, facility level, onsite/offsite laboratories, and health services type. In each country, a sample size of 2227 women aged 25-49 years will be enrolled with about 20% being women living with HIV. The primary outcome is proportion of HPV positive women completing precancer treatment, if eligible, within three months of screening. Data collection and analysis includes; facility and client exit surveys, key informant and client interviews, registries and project records extractions, and costing data analysis. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, context description, thematic analysis, and document analysis. Quantitative analyses will be stratified by participant's HIV status. DISCUSSION: Recruitment of study participants started in April 2022 (Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire) and August 2022 (Guatemala and the Philippines). Enrolment targets for women screened, client exit, in-depth and key informant interviews conducted were reached in Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire in November 2022. Guatemala and Philippines are expected to complete enrolment by June 2023. Follow-up of study Participants 12-months post-treatment is ongoing and is expected to be completed for all countries by August 2024. In LMICs, integrating cervical cancer secondary prevention services into other health services will likely require specific rather than incidental recruitment of women for screening. Reconfiguration of laboratory infrastructure and planning for sample management must be made well in advance to meet induced demand for screening. Trail Registration ClinicalTrials.Gov ID: NCT05133661 (24/11/2021).

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: In Côte d'Ivoire, agricultural development has been made possible by the Government strategy to support it through an industrialization-based policy. However, the agricultural sector is still facing many difficulties, despite significant investment efforts undertaken to turn the country into a significant agricultural and agro-food industry (AFI) products exporter on the international market. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the driving role of AFI branches in the Ivorian economy. We used Leontief's model, coupled with Diamond's model and Rasmussen's indices, to assess the ripple effects, and identify the driving branch in the Ivorian economy. Data used are derived from the Input-Output Table (IOT) of the 2018 National Accounts produced by the Government and aggregated into 21 branches or subsectors. Our study showed that there is no outstanding driving branch in the economy. However, some branches are close to compliance with driving branch status. For a driving sector to emerge, the Government should invest in priority order in the following branches: Grain Processing and Starchy Product Manufacturing (GPSPM), Cocoa & Coffee Processing (CCP), Oilseed Industry (OI), Dairy Industry and Fruit & Vegetable Industry (DIFVI), Beverage Industry (BI), Tobacco Industry (TI). And currently, the country's development strategy should be based primarily on these branches, because they are able to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of production system in the Agro-Food Industry (AFI) and, by extension, the economy.

Erythrolamprus frenatus belongs to the Family Dipsadidae, is distributed mainly within Cerrado areas of southeastern South America and it is poorly known in your diet and use of the substrate. Information on substrate use and diet was obtained from unpublished data provided by other researchers and specimens deposited in the herpetological collections, respectively. Five specimens were observed in the water, while two others were found on the ground, but close to bodies of water. Four prey items were recorded, and all of them being swamp eels of the family Synbranchidae. Our results providing important information on substrate use and diet of this species, and suggests that E. frenatus is a fish-eatinger snake, which seems to have specialized on elongated fishes. The presence of brightly colored belly in E. frenatus, suggests that this pattern may be a defensive tactic against aquatic predators.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT One oil sample isolated from leaves of Artabotrys jollyanus Pierre, Annonaceae, from Côte d'Ivoire has been analyzed by GC(RI), GC-MS and 13C NMR. In total, thirty-seven compounds accounting for 96.9% of the relative composition have been identified. The composition of the essential oil was dominated by trans-calamenene (15.7%), α-copaene (14.8%), α-cubebene (10.4%), cadina-3,5-diene (10.3%), (E)-β-caryophyllene (6.3%) and cadina-1,4-diene (6.1%). 13C NMR spectroscopy was very useful in the identification of trans-calamenene, 7-hydroxycalamenene, cadina-3,5-diene and cadina-1,4-diene. Moreover, monitoring the evolution of the leaf essential oil composition and the yield on a 12-month period (one sample per month) was achieved. The twelve essential oil samples exhibited a chemical homogeneity but the yield varied from sample to sample (0.26-0.60%).

Nowadays, the successful management of small scale fisheries requires the use of biometric data collected in the field, in order to transform them into suitable indicators. The present study describes the lengthweight relationships for 36 freshwater fish species from two tropical reservoirs Ayame I and Buyo, in Côte d’Ivoire. The main objective of the study was to provide a length weight key for a wide range of freshwater fish species from these tropical reservoirs exploited by the inland fisheries. The samplings were carried out at Buyo from July 1997 to August 1998, and from August 2004 to July 2005 in Ayame I. Fish specimens were collected from catches of artisanal fisheries using gill-nets, cast-nets, beach seines and bamboo traps. After landings, samples were identified, total weight for each specimen was recorded to the nearest gram and standard length was measured to the nearest millimetre. A total of 12 724 individuals belonging to 15 families and 24 genera were obtained in this study. The results indicated that the family with the highest number of species was Cichlidae with eight species. Six families were recorded with only one species per family. The value of the exponent b in the length weight relationships (W=aLb) ranged from 2.173 for Marcusenius furcidens to 3.472 for Polypterus endlicheri and the median of b was 2.756. The modal value of the exponent b equal to 2.70 indicates that most of the fish species in Ayame I and Buyo Reservoirs have negative allometric growth. The length weight parameters of the three species, Lates niloticus, Synodontis koensis and S. punctifer are described for the first time in these regions. The present length-weight key for 36 freshwater fish species could be used as a valuable tool for fishery managers, in order to improve the inland fisheries statistics largely based on hydropower reservoirs in Côte d’Ivoire.
