RESUMO

This documentary, qualitative, descriptive study has the objective to analyze images and representations of the female body and their relation to drug use in the content of articles published in four magazines with national circulation (Veja, Isto E, Boa Forma, Claúdia). The articles selected were submitted to the technique of content analysis, with three thematic groups identified: the body as an incentive to use drugs; risks to the body resulting from drug use; and the search for the perfect body through drug use. The data showed that the media reproduces rigid aesthetic standards, exposing women to social and health offenses that stimulate drug use, either autonomously or by prescription. The search for beauty and the appeal to feminine eroticism, published through the communication channels analyzed limit the social importance of women by using images that link them to the status of sexual object.

RESUMO

This is a multimethodology study founded on the Social Representations Theory, with the objective of aprehending the representations that the color issue has for the users and professionals of public health care services. The study was performed at Public Basic Health Units in Salvador, with 103 subjects. Data collection was performed using the Free Word-Association Test and semi-structured interviews. Factorial Correspondence Analysis and thematic analysis was used. Results showed an opposition of answers among people who classified themselves as white and black, and an opposition between the younger and older people. Representations about the color issue portray the complexity involved in racial classification and the need to implement studies on health policies and Brazilian races.

RESUMO

This article reviews the concept of gender in Nursing education at Federal University of Bahia based on Brazilian Curriculum Requirements for Graduate Nursing Programs. The possibility of inserting this concept as a progressive content into an integrated curriculum is presented, originating from experience obtained with a subject matter-based curriculum. The discussion of this proposal aims at contributing to other educational institutions which are currently experiencing a process of curriculum change. This article highlights some theoretical and methodological possibilities that might lead to an easier grasp of reality based on such concept. It even portrays the way this concept can be of use in understanding how institutions and health practices are put together and the ways in which they could be modified.

RESUMO

This text presents a study-carried out at a healthcare unit in Salvador/Bahia, with the purpose of building quality indicators for nursing care from a gender perspective. The construction of the indicators occurred by means of an investigation that analyzed women's ideas about the pre-natal nursing assistance provided to them, based on the identifications of actions that promote autonomy, merit, and participation. Data collecting was based on a semi-structured interview with 14 women that are users of prenatal nursing care and accepted to participate in this study and had also been cared by a nurse in a previous pregnancy or during the present one. Two kinds of gender indicators in nursing care were built: practical indicators and strategic gender indicators.
