RESUMO

This study is characterized as a qualitative research with the objective of unveiling the perception and experience regarding the antiretroviral treatment of the adolescent with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. The research was carried out within reference health care centers in two municipalities from the southern region of Brazil. The data production was developed through the creativity and sensitiveness dynamics of talking map type by a group of five participants. One applied the technique of content thematic analysis. The artistic productions and testimonies evidenced their daily experience with use of medications and the silence on the diagnosis of the disease and its treatment that implies the health care. The conclusion drawn is that the involvement of health professionals is needed since it opens spaces for the family besides promoting the dialogue of its members with the adolescent aiming at the adhesion to the treatment.

RESUMO

Situations of vulnerability of the environment in which a child and their family are inserted may be translated into life and development conditions. The objective of this study is to know how families perceive the situations of vulnerability and their components, related to the ecological environment, experienced by children who face chronic diseases and are hospitalized in a School Hospital in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This is a quantitative research from the perspective of a descriptive exploratory study. Data was collected from nine participants. Dynamic activities of creativity and sensibility were used and analyzed according to the Content Analysis referential. Three categories of analysis emerged; the familiar microsystem is here explored as a construct of the individual component of vulnerability. The search for an intersection demonstrates that an individual component of vulnerability reflects on the microsystem constitution, reinforcing the importance of envisioning the individual as a construct and a constructor of the environment in which their existence takes place.

RESUMO

Vulnerability factors that affect the environment where children and their families are can be translated as inadequate life conditions and development. This study aimed to understand nurses' perceptions of the influences of social and economic vulnerabilities upon the care given to children and their families within the environment of Pediatrics Admittance Units in a University Hospital from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This is a qualitative research with an exploratory and descriptive approach. The collection of information was performed with nine participants through individual semi-structured interviews, examined through Content Analysis technique. Three analytical categories have emerged. The one referring to the comprehension of the social and economic vulnerability concept was explored in this work. Results showed that whenever conditions of vulnerability are correctly identified the nursing professional has conditions of establishing actions that favor the healthy growth and development of the sick child and his or her family.

RESUMO

This article aims at discussing the use of photography as a method of information collection in connection with a qualitative research in a dissertation featuring the phenomenological approach with the objective of understanding the world as experienced by adolescents with cancer. The context was the Oncologic Pediatrics Admittance Unit of Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The subjects who provided information were nine adolescents hospitalized with cancer, of age between 11 and 18 years old. In order to carry out the information collection, photography in connection with semistructured interview and the hermeneutics as interpretation method of the information were applied. Eleven themes arose evidencing the richness of the existential content that permeates the experience of the adolescent with cancer. The study revealed that the care of the adolescent with cancer requires understanding his/her experienced world, perceiving the imperceptible, listening and perceiving what he/she says without saying it, being present whenever needed and including him/her among the issues that involves his/her existence.

RESUMO

This article views the life of HIV/AIDS children in shelters under the perspective of the Humanistic Nursing Theory. This is a qualitative study with an existential-phenomenological-humanistic approach based on the Nursology of Paterson and Zderad. The scenario was a shelter for HIV/AIDS children located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Information was collected using phenomenological interview carried out with three children with AIDS. This article presents part of the interpretation of the obtained information centered in two meaning units. The results provided an understanding of the child's play as way of feeling better in the environment of the shelter because the child perceives himself/herself as part of that environment with others. It also gives visibility to children with HIV/AIDS in shelters, and highlights the importance of including this theme in undergraduate courses, training health professionals in humanistic care, and managers to develop specific public policies for this population.

RESUMO

This qualitative study with a phenomenological approach aimed at understanding what it means to be a family caregiver of a child living with the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in the light of Martin Buber's philosophy. The study was carried out at the Pediatric outpatient Unit of a teaching hospital of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil with the participation of 7 family caregivers. Data was collected between September and October, 2006 using phenomenological interviews, and interpreted using Ricouer's hermeneutics. The ethical issues were considered. Being a family member of a child with AIDS is a complex existential phenomenon including changes, caring, dialogues, and concerns in search of the wellbeing of both children and caretaker in the world. Understanding the meaning of these phenomena the life of these families is essential to Nursing in order to plan and to develop a humanistic, ethical, esthetical, and solidary care.

RESUMO

This work presents the experience of the Sensitive and Creative Method (Método Criativo e Sensível) within a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study, which objective was to analyze the perceptions of adolescents and their families on the process of becoming adolescent and health care. This study used a creative and sensitive methodology for the production of data. It was demonstrated that this method can be used in nursing research, based on the exposure of its theoretical foundations, and on the process experienced by the participants. Using a participatory approach, the method allows gathering research, care, teaching, and the construction of collective knowledge.

RESUMO

Mothers' knowledge and practices must be understood to be recognized by health care professionals. This was a qualitative investigation with a participatory approach carried out with 10 mothers who attended a Family Health Team in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The study aimed at knowing their knowledge and practices as to the health of 0 to 6-month-old infants. Information was collected during four meetings, called "reflective-educative process". Such process is based on the theoretical-methodological strategy of the Circles of Culture proposed by Paulo Freire. Information was submitted to content analysis. The study reveals the existence of dissonance between what mothers know and what they actually do in when it comes to childcare. It also indicates the need for greater proximity between health care professionals and families so that information on child health care is shared.

RESUMO

This study aims at understanding how a HIV-infected pregnant woman perceives her corporeality in being-in-the-world bearing another being corroborating with the concepts of body and corporeality. It is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. HIV-positive pregnant women under pre-natal follow-up took part in the study. Semi-structured interview was carried out to collect the information. The hermeneutic approach was chosen to interpret the collected information. The discourses gave rise to two themes: being in the world while infected with the virus and the concepts of body in the world of HIV-positive pregnant women's concepts of body-in-the-world.

RESUMO

The imaginary world is important for the comprehension and insertion of the child in her surrounding world. Being this way, the ludicrous nursing care arises, assuring an integral and careful assitance, where games, plays, songs, and dances are present to subsidize the care. Music and all its involving and instructing sonority must be highlighted, being its musicality inserted in her environment. The child establishes herself as to be for to interact with other and the world, being the playing necessary for her growth and development.
