RESUMO

The A. A. discussed concepts in oedema formation, with special regard to veinous oedema. In eleven cases, where the total ligature of vena cava caudalis was made after the arising of renal artery, the followings conclusions are considered: 1) This surgical intervention adopted was compatible with animals survival. 2) Circulatory disturbances were not present in treated animals, and oedema formation was not always observed. 3) The oedema of posterior extremities that arose in some cases, disappear during post-operative period. 4) The venous ligature was accompanied by new collateral blood supply as could be demonstrated by phlebography. 5) Anatomical and hemodinamical factors are evoked to explain the absence or the rapid disappearance of edema. 6) The A. A. suggest this procedure as a method for palliative treatment of congestive heart failures in dogs.

The authors studying again inguinal hysterocele ocurred in twelve bitches, they verified six cases with the presence of a pregnant uterine horn in the hernial sac; three cases with pyometra; two cases with fetal death and postmortem changes (maceration and mummification); and one case with chronic metritis. The incidence, the types, the diagnosis, the evolution and the surgical technic of this condition are discussed at this point of view concerned. Based on a research in the literature and on clinical observations the authors find that little attention has been given to the question in veterinary surgery.

RESUMO

The authors studied the lateral overlapping mattress suture technique and successfully, performed the surgical repair in thirteen cases of umbilical hernia in the bovine. They discussed several operative techniques. This technique was reported for the first time by Sapiejko and Picolli in 1900. The authors examined the kinds of suture material used and employed Vetafil a synthetic non absorbable suture material manufactured in Germany by the Bengen and Co. (Hannover). Finally, detailed data of thirteen cases using this technique were described.

RESUMO

Clinical, surgical and pathological data pertaining to a case of primary lymphosarcoma in a cat, with bilateral kidney involvement, are presented. A bibliographical survey on the incidence of feline lymphatic tumors, as well as a clinical discussion of the case is made. The authors share Feldmans opinion regarding the origin of lymphosarcomas, classifying the neoplasm by them observed, in accordance with Whartin et al. as a lymphoblastic lymphosarcoma. Judging from the more specialized literature, this is a rare observation to be made in the feline species.

RESUMO

Based on anatomical studies, the authors describe some changings for the purpose of furthering the technique of the segmental lumbar epidural anesthesia in cattle. The improved technique has shown that: 1) A single injection (3 to 10 cc) of a 5 per cent procaine hydrochloride solution with renaleptine is effective to produce a complete anesthesia of both flanks, ventral abdominal wall and the udder (except the posterior part). This anesthesia provides excellent operating conditions in all regions concerned. 2) The authors, during or after the anesthesia, have observed no accidents and complications.

RESUMO

The author, during his observations on the epidural anesthesia in cattle, has obtained very good results utilizing a 5 per cent procaine hydrochloride solution with suprarenine. This technique has shown that: a) small doses (5 to 40 cc) are as effective as large doses of a 1 or 2 per cent solution used by other authors to produce a complete anesthesia of the tail, perineum, lumbar region, mammary glands, the hind-limbs, flanks, genital organs and abdominal wall to the region of the umbelicus; b) the onset of the anesthesia is fast and its maximum extent is attained in the course of ten minutes; it persists for about two and a half hours; c) this anesthesia provide excellent operating conditions with muscular relaxation in all regions concerned; d) the author, during or after the anesthesia, has observed no accidents and complications.

In the present paper the AA. describe the preliminary observations on the potentialization of the general anesthesia in the Thoroughbred Race Horses. Dose of 100/100 Kg body weight of Clorpromazina (Largatil or Amplictil) together with dose of 50 mg/100 Kg body weight of Prometazina (Phenergan) is administered by intravenous injection approximately twenty minutes before the anesthetic. A anesthetic solution containing 7.5 per cent of cloral hydrate and 6,13 per cent of magnesium sulfate is given by slow intravenous infusion. A satisfactory degree of anaesthesia is attained by employing those quantities per 100 Kg body weight. Detailed data of nine observations have been described with this new method.

RESUMO

A case of inversion of uterus and vagina in parturition complicated with prolapse of bladder in a bitch, has been reported in this paper by the authors. After referring the cases in all animals species recorded in the available literature, they have concluded that works on this subject are not so common as far as female dogs and cats are concerned. The clinical report and the operative surgery carried out as oophorohysterectomy and colpopexy have been described. The use of cotton thread as suture material for this operation, ligating the blood vessels and suturing the genital organs has shown very good results. The ectopia of urinary and genital organs has been discussed and the difference between the words prolapse and inversion has been commented in agreement with the opinion of the most of authors. They have concluded by the success of the surgical treatment attained of this condition.
