In addition, 111 (65.7%) considered remote learning extremely stressful, where the majority opted for in-person classes, with 77 (45.6%) wanting to resume in-person activities completely, and 76 (45.0%) opted for a gradual return. It was found that the profile of CUSC physiotherapy students underwent significant changes in several aspects, such as sleep and diet, but mainly psychological and academic issues were referred to, with positive and negative points concerning online learning.
RESUMO
The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the cardioprotective effects of carvedilol in dogs receiving doxorubicin chemotherapy and provide suggestions to future studies based on results and limitations of our study. Thirteen dogs were randomized into two experimental groups: 6 dogs in carvedilol group and 7 dogs in placebo group. In carvedilol group, 0.39 mg/kg ± 0.04 twice-daily oral carvedilol was started on the day of the first doxorubicin treatment and continued throughout the chemotherapy protocol until the final cardiological evaluation. Cardiological evaluations were performed before the first doxorubicin administration and then 10 to 15 days after each subsequent dose. Troponin I and oxidative stress tests were performed with serum collected from dogs at the initial and final cardiological evaluation. Carvedilol produced some echocardiographic and electrocardiographic changes (reduced E velocity and E/IVRT ratio, as well reduced heart rate and increased PR and QT interval) due to its beta-block effect. In placebo group Doppler study showed a significant increase in mitral flow deceleration time (EDT), as well increased amplitude of the S wave in the right, and R wave in the left, precordial chest leads. There were significant difference in the EDT, E/IVRT and A' velocity, as well heart rate, PR interval and R wave in V4/CV6LU precordial chest lead between groups. In conclusion, some indexes of diastolic function and in precordial chest leads were less affected by doxorubicin in carvedilol than in control group. This suggests that carvedilol may have a beneficial effect in canine cancer patients receiving doxorubicin.

This study aimed to understand the perception of five adolescents, aged 13 to 19 years, about the divorce and remarriage of their parents. Semi-structured interviews were realized and submitted to Content Analysis. Five categories were identified. The experiences of divorce and remarriage of the parents brings to the adolescents a possibility of a new family experience, which can be more affective and secure than the relationship of their primary family. However, these experiences can also generate suffering, especially when the adolescents do not adapt to the new changes and familiar roles. It was observed a distant relationship between the participants and their fathers, while the mothers were responsible not only for the health and affective care, but also for intermediate the relations between the children and the stepfathers and between the children and their fathers.

A sediment core was sampled in an urban lake in southern Brazil, and the presence of 27 trace elements was assessed. The geochronology showed that the core corresponds to the period from 1914 to 2012. Accumulation of metals and the level of pollution was measured by the geoaccumulation index (Igeo) and enrichment factor (EF). According to Igeo and EF, the lake showed a high concentration of Ag, Se, Na, Au, S, Ca, Mg, Ba, Sb, Bi, and Sr with 5 ≤ EF ≤ 45 and Igeo class = 2-6. The EF to Au = 45 and Ag = 40. In contrast, Fe, Al, As, Cr, Ga, La, Sc, and Th do not represent pollution (Igeo ≤ 0 and EF ≤ 1.6). A principal component analysis and Spearman correlation showed a first group composed of Ca, Mg, P, Ba, Sr, Na, K, Ag, Bi, Au, Mo, sand, silt, and total organic carbon with positive correlation ≥ 0.70 and > 0.95 to Sr, Ag, sand, and silt. These were negatively correlated ≥- 0.70 with Fe. The second group: Fe, La, Ga, Ti, V, Cr, As, Al, Th from lithogenic source. Prediction models for the concentration for Mg, Na, P, Sr, Fe, Ga, and total organic carbon to years 2020-2050 were obtained with R2 > 0.65. In the anthropogenic source analyses, a watershed land use map indicates multiple uses of the land, with 53% urban area, 14.6% agriculture, and 14.5% forest.

The study reports concentration of 16 PAHs in sediment, water, plankton and in muscle and liver of sampled fishes from Paranagua Bay in Southern Brazil. According to the range of PAHs concentration found in sediments (ΣPAHs 15.33-133.61 µg g-1) and water (ΣPAHs 51.20-162.37 µg L-1), the area was characterized as slightly polluted. In contrast, significant concentration of PAHs was found in fish and plankton, ranging from 26.52 to 2055.00 µg g-1 and 175.41 to 2096.10 µg g-1, respectively. The concentrations were 15 times more than in sediments. Even though the concentration of PAHs in water and sediments are low, the concentration in fish tissues are alarmingly. The hypothesis of bioaccumulation is not discharged. Accumulation levels of PAHs in the biota were used to calculate biota-sediment accumulation factor (BSAF) and bioaccumulation factor (BAF). For example, fish sampled from site 11 had a BAF of 49 and BSAF of 2.3, whereas for plankton the BAF was 16.3 and BSAF 0.7. Mean values of BAF and BSAF were higher in plankton samples. It is known that PAHs are enzymatically metabolized by organisms, thus the lower BSAF in fish might have resulted from biochemical transformation. Statistical analysis indicates no significant correlation between total PAHs concentration in fish tissues and total lipid content in fishes (p > 0.1).Accumulation in tissues is controlled by lipid content, although factors, such as spatial distribution of compounds, trophic level, and behavior of each species in the environment, must be considered. Besides, size and nutritional conditions can affect both absorption as well as metabolic process and excretion. A positive and significant correlation was found between total PAHs and trophic positions obtained from FishBase data (r2 = 0.784; p < 0.05). Thus, it seems that the area, with great influence of urban and industrial activities, and the bioaccumulation compounds, such as PAHs, depend on others factors, as well as resuspension of sediments and releasing of compounds for biota.

Mammary tumors research in bitches is important due to their high incidence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the importance of the axillary lymph node as a sentinel lymph node for mammary neoplasms in female dogs. Forty-nine bitches with mammary neoplasia were submitted to total unilateral mastectomy, and the axillary lymph node was identified using the patent blue dye. This lymph node was processed routinely for histopathological analysis and stained with hematoxylin-eosin and by immunohistochemistry (IHC) with cytokeratin antibody (AE1/AE3) to search for metastasis. Eight dogs had axillary lymph node metastases, seven of which were detected by histopathology and by IHC and only one by IHC (micrometastasis). One dog who presented tumor in caudal and inguinal abdominal mammary glands had metastases in the axillary and inguinal lymph nodes. It is concluded that the mammary tumor can cause alteration in lymphatic drainage leading to metastases in lymph nodes which normally do not drain certain glands; so the removal of the axillary lymph node should be included as a routine technique to allow better staging of mammary neoplasms of bitches.(AU)

Paraneoplastic laboratory abnormalities are identified in several types of cancers in dogs and cats. In veterinary medicine, particularly in mammary cancer, there are few studies that correlate abnormal laboratory findings with tumor type and staging. The aim of this study was to evaluate hematological, biochemical, and hemostatic abnormalities and correlate them with mammary tumor staging in female dogs with mammary cancer. Blood samples from 24 female dogs were evaluated, and the hematological, biochemical, and hemostatic parameters were correlated with tumor staging obtained by physical examination, imaging exams, and histopathological surgical biopsies. The groups were organized according to tumor staging: group 1 (stages I and II), group 2 (stage III), and group 3 (stages IV and V). Anemia, neutrophilic leukocytosis, monocytosis, eosinophilia, thrombocytosis, hypoalbuminemia, hypocalcemia, hypoglycemia, and low blood urea were observed. The variables MCHC, TPP, and RDW were correlated with tumor staging with no clinical relevance. Thrombin time and fibrinogen were significant between the groups in the coagulation test, being associated with tumor staging. The findings suggest influence of the proinflammatory cytokines released during tumor growth.(AU)

Abstract Introduction : The Graded Wolf Motor Function Test (GWMFT) was developed as a modification of the Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT), designed to address moderate-to-severe upper-extremity motor impairment, consequent to a stroke or brain injury, by combining time and quality of movement measures in both isolated movements and functional tasks. Objectives : To translate and adapt the GWMFT form and instructions manual to Brazilian Portuguese and evaluate the inter-rater reliability. Materials and methods : Ten individuals, mean age 53.2 ± 11.39 (range: 28-72) years and a mean time since stroke onset of 82.5 ± 85.83 (16-288) months participated in the study. After translation and cultural adaptation, two independent evaluators, based on the instructions manual information, administered GWMFT. Video observations were used to rate the time and the compensatory movements in the Functional Ability Scale (FAS). Intra-class Correlation Coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman plots were calculated to examine the inter-rater reliability for performance time and FAS. Results : The translated and adapted version obtained a total ICC inter-rater time 0.99 (0.95-1.00), showing less reliability in the task of lifting a pen, with ICC = 0.71 (- 0.15-0.93). The ICC of the total FAS was 0.98 (0.92-0.99) and the task of elbow extension has shown the lowest ICC rate = 0.83 (0.31-0.96). Conclusion : The GWMFT scale reliability proved to be appropriate to evaluate the paretic upper limb in individuals with chronic hemiparesis post severe stroke.
BACKGROUND: Limb-body wall defect is a rare condition characterized by a combination of large and complex defects of the ventral thorax and abdominal wall with craniofacial and limb anomalies. METHODS: The aim of this study was to describe the experience of our fetal medicine service, a reference from Southern Brazil, with prenatally diagnosed patients with a limb-body wall defect in a 3 years period. Only patients who fulfilled the criteria suggested by Hunter et al. (2011) were included in the study. Clinical data and results of radiological and cytogenetic evaluation were collected from their medical records. RESULTS: Our sample was composed of 8 patients. Many of their mothers were younger than 25 years (50%) and in their first pregnancy (62.5%). It is noteworthy that one patient was referred due to suspected anencephaly and another due to a twin pregnancy with an embryonic sac. Craniofacial defects were verified in three patients (37.5%), thoracic/abdominal abnormalities in 6 (75%) and limb defects in eight (100%). Congenital heart defects were observed in five patients (62.5%). One of them presented a previously undescribed complex heart defect. CONCLUSION: The results disclosed that complementary exams, such as MRI and echocardiography, are important to better define the observed defects. Some of them, such as congenital heart defects, may be more common than previously reported. This definition is essential for the proper management of the pregnancy and genetic counseling of the family. The birth of these children must be planned with caution and for the prognosis a long survival possibility, despite unlikely and rare, must be considered.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular disorder with a recessive mode of inheritance caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene. Clinically, it is characterized by progressive and symmetrical muscle weakness. Diagnosis is made by muscle biopsy with immunohistochemical staining, and treatment aims to slow the progression of muscle dysfunction, because cardiorespiratory failure is a common cause of death.

As part of an assessment study on the risk of spreading textile sludge onto non-productive soil, the sorption behaviour of some sludge-metal constituents [Cr(VI), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II)] in the soil was studied. In addition, the sludge stabilization effect was evaluated by the biodegradation of organic compounds and phytotoxicity tests. Metal-soil sorption was assessed using soil columns and by sorption isotherms (i.e., Freundlich and Langmuir). In relation to the phytotoxicity of Eruca sativa L., there was a biomass inhibitory effect for the fresh sludge and a biomass stimulant effect for the stabilized sludge. Thus our results show that after stabilization, the tested loading ratio of 33% sludge: 67% soil (v/v) (equivalent to 85 Mg ha(-1)) did not significantly increase the risk of groundwater contamination since only small amounts of metals applied to the soil underwent percolation and almost all the organic compounds were degraded.
