RESUMO

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to bring a multilevel perspective to the discussion of the antecedents of violence against women in higher education settings. Originality/value: This paper was guided by the need indicated in the literature for research on the multiple levels that constitute the context of violence against women, as this is a public health problem, a designation that indicates the urgency with which this pervasive phenomenon should be addressed. The university context is conducive to this type of research, as it includes situations that favor instances of violence. Additionally, it aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Gender Equality and Quality Educations. Design/methodology/approach: This paper follows a qualitative and interpretative approach. This choice was due to the need to know the "how" and "why" elements that are part of violence against women in the university context. As the main source of evidence for the study, we conducted 20 in-depth interviews with women (victims) and men (aggressors), all university students involved in situations of violence. The transcription of the interviews generated 346 quotations, including 41 analysis codes. Findings: After conducting the data coding, we identified that (i) the actions and omissions of the educational institution, (ii) the taste for violence, the perception of self-efficacy and the influence of the aggressors' group of friends, and (iii) the apparent dichotomy between women's vulnerability and women's strength are among the main antecedents of violence against women. The article concludes with possible research questions to combat violence. Among the contribution of the discussions presented in our article, we highlight the importance of adopting a multilevel view so that we can better understand and fight against this violence, the existence of which is not restricted to the university context.

Introduction: Materialism has consistently been associated with mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, and with a decline in overall wellbeing. This article seeks to deepen the understanding of whether or not the level of materialism is reduced when a sense of gratitude is instilled and, if so, how. Methods: After a thorough literature review, two empirical studies are presented. Study 1 has a quasi-experimental design and a sample of adolescent individuals in a major city in Brazil. Study 2 takes the form of a survey, completed by parents, in the same city. Results: Study 1 demonstrates that a gratitude-based intervention can reduce the subjects' belief that material wealth brings happiness and signifies success. Study 2 suggests that parents who express gratitude have a perception of raising less materialistic children. Discussion: These conclusions add to the theory and practice of consumer psychology and responsible consumption, particularly in relation to the behavior of young people, pointing toward ways to reduce excessive consumption through a simple and easily applied intervention: the stimulus of gratitude.

Esta investigação tem por objetivo identificar os fatores de empregabilidade que facilitam a conquista de vagas de estágio por universitários. Dois estudos foram desenvolvidos. No primeiro, quantitativo, 302 candidatos a vagas de estágio de uma empresa recrutadora responderam a um questionário. E, dois meses depois, ao final do processo seletivo, obteve-se a informação sobre quais deles haviam sido aprovados ou não. No segundo, realizou-se um grupo focal com 10 universitários sobre o tema empregabilidade, esclarecendo os resultados da fase anterior. Os resultados mostram que a satisfação com a instituição de ensino e o curso são determinantes na conquista da vaga de estágio. Observou-se que os fatores que influenciam na satisfação são: reputação da instituição e oportunidades de carreira.(AU)


The objective of this study was to identify the employability factors which facilitate college students obtaining an apprenticeship position. In the quantitative phase of the research, applicants for apprenticeship in a recruiting company answered a questionnaire and, two months later, at the end of the selection process, we got the names of those who had been selected (or not) (N = 302). In the qualitative phase, a focus group was organized with 10 undergraduates, which clarified their views on employability and corroborated the results of the previous phase. The results show that satisfaction with the educational institution and the course itself were crucial to obtain the apprenticeship position applied for. The factors that influenced their satisfaction were: the reputation of the school and the career opportunities offered by the course.(AU)


Esta investigación tiene por objetivo identificar los factores de capacitación que facilitan la conquista de vacantes de prácticas por universitarios. Se desarrollaron dos estudios. En el primero, cuantitativo, 302 candidatos a vacantes de prácticas de una empresa reclutadora respondieron a un cuestionario. Y, dos meses después, al final del proceso selectivo, se obtuvo la información sobre cuáles de ellos habían sido aprobados o no. En el segundo, se formó un grupo focal con 10 universitarios sobre el tema capacitación, esclareciendo los resultados de la fase anterior. Los resultados muestran que la satisfacción con la institución de enseñanza y el curso son determinantes en la conquista de la vacante de práctica. Se observó que los factores que influencian en la satisfacción son: reputación de la institución y oportunidades de carrera.(AU)
