RESUMO

This study discusses the functional method applied to Nursing, approached through a group dynamics developed with three groups of Master students from the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing. After the dynamics, the subjects answered a questionnaire with four questions. The responses of the first group showed the limitations of the functional model that interfere in the work such as: impersonal relationships, fragmentation of tasks, centralization of decisions causing the workers' dissatisfaction. The groups II and III pointed out some advantages when the work is based on a team, such as the exchange of experiences, participant planning and shared decisions, resulting in satisfaction at work.

RESUMO

The severity of clinical illness was evaluated through the psychophysics method of magnitude estimation. The purpose of this experiment was: 1) to compare the scales derived from right judgement (magnitude estimation) used in three different Brazilian samples; 2) to verify the stability and agreement of severity estimations of clinical situations judged in Brazil, USA and England. In order to develop this study, professionals who work in the areas of psychology, nursing and medicine were invited. The lower coefficient of Pearson's correlation among the groups were of 0.88 the and the greater of 0.94. The exponents found between the Brazilian and American samples were of 1.22 and between the Brazilian and English samples of 1.15.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to report on the experiment of a group of undergraduate students from the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing, who use art (some aspects of the Clown Theatre) as a nursing resource in the care to hospitalized children. Having as basis the job performed by the group of physicians "Joy Doctors", and the theoretical grounding from Psychology and Pediatric and Neonatal Nursing, those students founded the Laugh Company that aims at rescuing laugh within the hospitalized child/family. This experiment has caused some changes in daily care: the hospital space has become more informal and relaxed, laugh can be heard more often and some items, such as, objects, sounds, movements, colours, rooms and people can become toys.
