RESUMO

A new bopyrid isopod Athelges neotenuicaudis is reported. The new isopod is collected from the crab Pagurus kulkarnii as ectoparasite. They are found in the intertidal region of Mukkam, Visakhapatnam Coast. Andhra Pradesh, India. Athelges neotenuicaudis n. sp. is compared with A. paguri Rathke, 1843; A. tenuicaudis Rathke, 1843; and A. bilobus Rathke.

RESUMO

A new species of the cestode genus Acanthobothrium obtained from the elasmobranch Rhinobatus granulatus (Cuvier) is described. It shows remarkable differences from other known species of Acanthobothrium in respect of length of the worm, craspedote nature, size of scolex, bothridia, hooks and unilateral genital pores. The new species is designated as Acanthobothrium satyanarayanaraoi.

RESUMO

Hysterothylacium pseudotumbili n.sp. from the stomach and body cavity of marine fishes. Chrorinemus tol Couvier. Saurida undosquamis (Richardson), Lutianus russelli (Bleeker), Rastrilliger kanagurta (Cuvier) and Saurida pseudotumbili Dutt and Vidyasagar collected from Visakhapatnam (Bay of Bengal) is described and figured. A detailed examination has allowed us to erect a new species of Hysterothylacium to accommodate the worm. It shows remarkable differences from other known species of Hysterothylacium in respect of body measurements, the papillae on the lips arrangement, location of nerve ring and excretory pore, long intestinal caecum, position of vulva, number and arrangement of caudal papillae and size of the spicules. The new species is designated as Hysterothylacium pseudotumbili. Saurida pseudotumbili is the new host record. This is the first report of the genus in this host. Visakhapatnam coast is the new locality record.

RESUMO

Two species of heterophyid cercariae, cercaria of Haplorchis taichui and Haplorchis pumilio are obtained from Thiara tuberculata from Visakhapatnam, India. This is the first report of cercariae of both the parasites from India. The characteristic features of H. taichui cercaria are the presence of two sets--one set of lateral and other dorsoventral cuadal finfolds, 15 acicular spines in three alternating rows and seven pairs of lobed penetration glands arranged in two longitudinal rows. H. pumilio cercaria is characterized by the presence of two sets of caudal finfolds, 15 acicular spines in three alternating rows and seven pairs of voluminous unicellular penetration glands.

RESUMO

The present paper deals with new records of nematoda of the family Anisakidae Railliet et Henry, 1912. During a study of the parasites of marine fishes (shark, ray and marine teleosts) of Bay of Bengal, females of interesting nematode parasites were found in stomach and body cavity of Chiloscyllium indicum (Gmelin), Torpedo panthera (Olfers), Pomadasys masculatus Bloch and Sphyraena obtusata Cuvier from Visakhapatnam, Bheemunipatnam and Yarada (Andhra Pradesh). Most of the characters tally with Porrocaecum galeocerdonis and Hysterothylacium engraulisi, except for minor variations. Because of the non-availability of the male, it is not possible to assign the present specimens to any of the known species of the genera Porrocaecum and Hysterothylacium. Hence these are referred as Porrocaecum sp. and Hysterothylacium sp. Chiloscyllium indicum and Torpedo panthera are new host records. Visakhapatnam, Bheemunipatnam and Yarada are the new locality records.

RESUMO

The present paper deals with the redescriptions of the species of a nematode of the families, Heterocheilidae Railliet et Henry, 1915 and Camallanidae Railliet et Henry, 1915 from the intestine and stomach of marine fishes, Epinephelus areolatus (Forskål), Tachysurus tenuispinis (Day), Johnius diacantus (Lecépède), Ilisha filigera (Valenciennes), Pomadasys maculatus (Blooch). Dasyatis (Himantura) uarnak (Forskål), Pterois russelli Bennett, Scoliodon sorrakowah (Cuvier) and Carangoides malabaricus Bloch and Schneider from Visakhapatnam and Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh). Most of the characters tally with Raphidascaris chirocentri Yamaguti, 1935, Paranisakis pastinacae (Rud., 1819) Baylis, 1936 and Paracamallanus theraponis Kalyankar, 1970, but differs from it body measurements, oesophagus length, location of the nerve ring, length of the tridents, possession of striations, shape and position of the vulvar process and size of the eggs. Except for these minor variations, in all other characters there is agreement with above species. Because of the non-availability of the male, it is not possible to assign the present specimens to any of the known species of the genus Raphidascaris, Paranisakis and Paracamallanus. Hence these are referred as Raphidascaris sp., Paranisakis sp. and Paracamallanus sp. Dasyatis uarnak, Pterois russelli, Scoliodon sorrakowah and Carangoides malabaricus are new host records. Visakhapatnam and Kakinada are the new locality records.

RESUMO

A new species of the nematode genus Thynnascaris obtained from the teleost Rachycentron canadus (Linnaeus) is reported. A detailed examination of this specimen has allowed us to erect a new species Thynnascaris to accommodate the worm. It shows remarkable differences from other known species of Thynnascaris in respect of body size, length of the oesophageal appendix and intestinal caecum, location of nerve ring and excretory pore, on the papillae on the lips arrangement, type of the striations on the cuticle, vulva position, arrangement of caudal papillae and size of the spicules. The new species is designated as Thynnascaris shyamasundarii.
