RESUMO
Given the incidence of athlete's foot in our environment a study of the causing agent as well as the lesions it determines is made. For that purpose four male patients from an ESBEC (High School in the Countryside), seen at Jovellanos Municipality Hospital in the dermatology section, were studied. Average age was 13. The authors conducted a tissular study with adjusting sampling for isolating the relevant causing agent. The authors showed that the infecting agents were Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton rubrum which determined hyperkeratosis with marked and focal parakeratosis; maceration areas with destruction and sphacelus of the corneal layer, a site with abundant necrotic cells and spores; acanthosis; papillomatosis; hyphas, and a lympho-histocytary inflammatory infiltrate in the upper dermis.

In order to study the in vitro behavior of the drug used according to our formula cultures of Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Microsporum gallinae, Microsporum audouinii, Microsporum gypseum and Epidermophyton floccosum were prepared in order to prove its efficacy. It was found no growth in cultures to which the drug was added in different concentrations thus proving its efficacy as a fungistatic element. The inocula obtained were re-cultured in the same medium having no drug and no growth was evidenced; this would suggest its efficacy as a fungicide. This efficacy was proved for the different concentrations, that is, from the minimal coinentration (0.1 ml) up to the 1 ml concentration the drug disclosed fungicide power. The untreated controls which were recultured from the original strains grew according to their common development rhythm.

This paper is devoted to study the magnitude of the skin lesions produced by Trichophyton verrucosum--previously identified--as well as the therapeutic measures taken. For this study were used 45 calves with a skin fungal process identified, by the adequate culture means, as from T. verrucosum. Through the histic study of the skin biopsy were found several lesions due to tinea corporis dermatitis. The use of the drug employed is described. The cure rate obtained with this drug was the following: an 80% cure within 6 days, a 12,5% within 8 days, and a 7,5% within 10 days; no cure was observed in the controls--5 from the total number.
