Brucellosis is a disease of zoonotic character, of great global importance, caused by bacteria of thegenus Brucella that affects several animal species. In goats is caused by Brucella abortus and Brucellamellitensis, having as main implications abortion in females and epididymitis in males. The aim of this work wasresearch anti-Brucella abortus antibodies in the herd goats in the city of Bom Jesus, Piauí. Blood samples werecollected from 74 animals without definided breed. Obtaining the serum was accomplished at the ClinicalPathology Laboratory in Campus Professora Cinobelina Elvas - UFPI, the material was sent to thePhysiopathology of Animal reprocuction of Campus Ministro Petrônio Portela in Teresina- PI, where was heldthe serological diagnostic through Serum Agglutination test with Buffered Acid Antigen (AAT). The animalswere not reactive to the test, possibly because of some factors such as hygiene, lack of flooded areas and animalshave no contact with cattle.(AU)

RESUMO

The morphometric measurements of the testicles is intended to measure the dimensions of constituenttestis parenchyma quantitatively evaluating spermatogenesis. This study aimed to analyze the spermatogenesisof sheep Santa Ines and crossbred Santa Ines and Dorper watching the racial crossing alter testis function. Weused eight sheep, four Santa Ines and four crossbreed of Santa Ines/Dorper. After castration the animals gavethe Gonadosomatic index. Gauged to volume ratio of testis compartments using a reticle. The constituents of thetubular casing were evaluated: Lamina propria, seminiferous epithelium of the lumen and interstitialcompartment constituents: Leydig cells, blood vessels and connective tissue. Only the tubular diameter andheight of the seminiferous epithelium showed significant differences, being higher for sheep Santa Ines. It wasconcluded that there was little difference in testicular morphometry of animals studied and it was found that theracial cross does not induce significant changes in parameters between groups. RESUMO

The objective of this study was to evaluate comparatively the scrotum, scrotal circumference of thebreed rams Santa Ines and mestizos (Dorper + Santa Inês) created under intensive system. Used four rams eachrace healthy, aged between 18 and 24 months and scores ranging from 3 to 3.5. There were two collections ofscrotum-testis to determine the characteristics for each group, seven days apart. The data were submitted toanalysis of variance (ANOVA) for a randomized block design. The variables analyzed were submitted to Tukeytest at 5% probability, to compare the scrotum-testicular parameters between the races. Based on the resultsobtained, it is concluded that the scrotum-testicular parameters animal Santa Inês and mestizos (Dorper + SantaInês) created under confinement do not differ significantly (P <0.05).(AU)

RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the reproductive performance of swine breed Landrace and Large White created in the region the hot weather in the south of Piauí state. Sampling was carried out between pure animals containing such information, the total number of piglets born; number of weaned piglets; date of birth of the piglets; coverage of the array data. These data were submitted to variance analysis, comparing the average standard deviation of characteristics and the coefficient of variation. Landrace of the results showed better reproductive performance than data Large White, the two races are excellent reproductive pattern, so they are considered large arrays in pig farming.

RESUMO

Toxic plants that affect ruminants bother animal breeders and responsible for the animal production, also considering the fact that most of the cases are only of popular knowledge, without study and / or practices to decrease the poisoning rates. Thus, a research project was developed to learn more about toxic plants that affect ruminants in the region, talking to producers, veterinarians, animal husbandry or agronomists on farms. It was observed that in the visited properties little is known about toxic plants and its severity and in those properties which a person is responsible for producing and understands about the subject, actions are not taken to avoid losses due to diseases associated with intoxication plants.
