RESUMO

The black species of the genus Cyclocephala Dejean (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Dynastinae: Cyclocephalini) from Colombia are reviewed. I define species groups based on the morphology of adults, re-describe those species occurring in Colombia, describe two new species (Cyclocephala santandereana new species and Cyclocephala arhuacana new species), list the species reported for Colombia, provide a key to identify groups and the species within each group, and present species distribution and life history data. This review includes the Cyclocephala cribrata species group previously defined with C. boucheri Dechambre, C. carbonaria Arrow, C. cribrata Burmeister, C. dechambrei Dupuis, C. boliviana Dechambre, C. dilatata (Prell), C. ergastuli Dechambre, C. latipennis Arrow, C. marqueti Dechambre, C. proxima Dechambre, C. rogerpauli Moore, Branham, Cave, and C. variolosa Burmeister. The Cyclocephala fasciolata species group contains C. abrelata Ratcliffe Cave, C. brevipennis Endrdi, C. fasciolata Bates, C. melane Bates, and Cyclocephala santandereana new species. The Cyclocephala ligyrina species group has C. arhuacana new species, C. dalensi Ponchel, C. dyscinetoides Dechambre, C. endroedyyoungai Endrdi, C. kaszabi Endrdi, C. ligyrina Bates, Cyclocephala nigerrima Bates, C. rufa Endrdi, and C. scarabaeina (Gyllenhal). Cyclocephala carinatipennis Martnez Morn is proposed as a new junior synonym of C. rufa Endrdi. A larva of the Cyclocephala cribrata species group is described for the first time. An analysis of the characters of the adults and the described larva of the species group is performed to imply phylogenetic implications. New country records of C. dalensi and C. marqueti are recorded for Colombia.

RESUMO

The enigmatic genus Stenocrates Burmeister has 52 species that are widely distributed from Mexico to Argentina, but mainly in South America. In the present study, the larva of the third instar and pupa of Stenocrates agricola Dechambre & Hardy, 2004 are described and illustrated based on specimens from Argentina, this being the first description of immatures for the genus. The adult is also redescribed, significantly expanding the number of characters and providing information on the natural history of this species. In addition, 28 species of Cyclocephalini and 20 species of Pentodontini are morphologically compared, emphasizing the most useful larval characters used among these beetles. Stenocrates agricola shows frequent and common characters of Pentodontini species but scarce (and even absent) characters typical of Cyclocephalini species, including some considered diagnostic for this tribe. Accordingly we consider that the tribal position of Stenocrates remains controversial and more study is needed to clarify the tribal status of Stenocrates. We believe that larval morphology provides important information in systematics studies that can clarify tribal relationships within the Dynastinae.

RESUMO

The third instar and pupa of Neocorvicoana reticulata (Kirby, 1819) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae: Gymnetini) from Argentina, are described and illustrated. This is the first description of immatures in this genus. A key to the known third-stage larvae of New World Gymnetini species is provided, which now includes 19 species in 10 genera.
