RESUMO
This study takes public health as the point of departure to discuss both the concept of collective health and its object and field of action, emphasizing the concepts of man, collective and individual spheres, and health-disease, through a discussion of the interdisciplinary construction of the collective health field. The authors then place nursing within this field, emphasizing what appears to be the greatest challenge, i.e., to approach nursing as a practice of relationships.

This study was based on the analysis of the relationship established between nursing auxiliaries and their clientele in two Basic Health Units at the time of clients' reception. The theoretical framework used was that of the "help model", whose elements are: attending, responding, personalizing, giving directions, becoming involved, exploring, understanding and acting. Four typical cases are presented, which show that the relationships are not always personalized, the client and the auxiliary do not become involved in the relationship and that there is more concern about the development of technical abilities than about reception. There are different communication attitudes at the same unit. The reception process must be incorporated to the health unit procedures at the same time it must transcend the routine character of daily activities.

The purpose of this study is to characterize the demographic configuration of nursing personnel involved with the Family Health Program (FHP) in three municipalities of the state of São Paulo and analyse their perception about the expected professional profile in order to work in the FHP. Data was collected by means of semi-structured interviews and the software ETHNOGRAPH was used for initial data analysis, followed by thematic analysis. The themes identified by the subjects in their narratives point to the following "expected profile": there is a perception that workers must be communicative, dedicated, involved, sympathetic and tender. They should be easy to get along with, available and helpful to the population. Although, the results points to a professional profile which contemplates a "condescending" type of assistance, at the same time they point to a new type of health assistance based on humanization and integrality, as well as the construction of citizenship.

This article is part of an integrated research project called The Organization of Primary Health Care (a perspective for nursing practice). Its objective is to investigate the perception of nursing personnel concerning their practice in family-centered primary health care. This article presents a case study focuses on nursing personnel workers from the Family Health Program (PSF), in the city of Batatais. Data collection was done through semi-structured interviews with those professionals. Thematic analysis of the data was realized in which initial categorization was done with the help of the Ethnograph software. The topics identified in the workers' narratives were: comprehensiveness, health care, bonding and active case-frading. These themes suggested that the work in family-centered care is difficult, therefore it leads to a more comprehensive health care practice in which decision-making is shared with clientele.

The purpose of this article is to describe nursing in the Brazilian health system and to analyze the characteristics of nursing personnel in Brazil. This description includes types of health institutions, services rendered, and the distribution of nursing personnel by professional categories in 1956, 1982, and 1995. Discussion of the challenges facing Brazilian nurses is presented using data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Federal Nursing Board (COFEn), Regional Nursing Board (COREn), and the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn). An increase in the number of outpatient units and in diagnostic and therapeutic examinations has led to an increased the demand for nurses. Public health nurses participate in planning, management, sanitary education, health promotion, and supervision of nursing care provided by nursing technicians, assistants, and other helpers.

The purpose of this investigation was to analyse nurse's role in the organization of the health work at the Informatics Department of the Health Bureau of the city of Ribeirão Preto, regarding the process of municipalization. We verified that nurses were involved in the organization of this area since its implementation. Nurses also performed organization and control activities related to the production, storage and analysis of the necessary data about the different stages of the health care, as well as training and supervising activities of the individuals who work with the information system.

This paper intends to report an experience with the process of integrated planning in a Basic Health Unit at Riberiao Preto-SP. we selected as our object of analysis the interactions and dialogues that were expressed in the scope of the local health system. Therefore, we sought to consider the individual dynamics of this reality and the social agents involved (teachers, students, directors, health workers and community workers), trying to understand the communicative action according to HABERMAS (1989). We believe that this is an open space in the perspective of widening the level of integrated participation in the administration of public health services.

The authors compared the names of the subjects that form the official curriculum to those offered by the schools of nursing in the South East of Brazil. Forty eight schools replied to the questionnaire, a variance in the names and numbers of the subjects offered was found, indicating a difference in the way each school performs the curriculum.

This study, which is based in a descriptive exploratory charter objectified to identify the perception that young people have concerning to the factors which possibly have been influencing the process of how to choose a professional career for nursing, been possibly to identify an outline for nursing. Outline, is not so attractive for the young people to select this profession.

The historical roots of the nursing profession in public health in the state of São Paulo from 1900-1980 have been identified. Nurses have effectively participated to implement a new public health program--"Programação em Saúde", having the assignment to train, coordinate, supervise/manage other nurses who lacked specialized training. The nurse's understanding of her role in the health process was limited to individual performance with emphasis on technical ability, without understanding the purpose of her actions in the overall model.

The present study makes some considerations on nurse's insertion in work field. It rises some data on the increase of employment in health sector, as well as seeks to identify some determinants of this increasment. It brings up some informations on nurse's manpower, the absorption of nursing professional ad the ability of generating employment. Finally, the study identify some trends perceived in the absorption of the professional nurse.

This study is aimed at characterizing the administrative activities performed by nurses at health institutions engaged in a process of restructuring the sanitary system. The instrument consisted of a questionnaire and concentrated on the formulation of a theoretical frame for the administrative practice of a nurse. The collected data showed that nurses are performing the administrative activity following random and non-scientific patterns. There are differences concerning the management carried out by nurses according to the nature of the institution, public or private, and the level of health assistance. As far as the steps in an administrative process go, most nurses don't plan or evaluate carefully the type of health care to be taken. They supervise the application of a plan conceived by other departments in which they may or may not have participated.
