RESUMO

Probiotic microorganisms can stimulate an immune response and increase the efficiency of vaccines. For example, Bacillus toyonensis is a nonpathogenic, Gram-positive bacterium that has been used as a probiotic in animal supplementation. It induces immunomodulatory effects and increases the vaccine response in several species. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of B. toyonensis supplementation on the modulation of the immune response in horses vaccinated with recombinant Clostridium tetani toxin. Twenty horses were vaccinated twice, with an interval of 21 days between doses, and equally divided into two groups: the first group was supplemented orally for 42 days with feed containing viable spores of B. toyonensis (1 × 108) mixed with molasses (40 ml), starting 7 days before the first vaccination; the second (control) group received only feed mixed with molasses, starting 7 days before the first vaccination. Serum samples were collected to evaluate the humoral immune response using an in-house indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were collected to evaluate cytokine transcription (qPCR). For the specific IgG-anti-rTENT titer, the supplemented group had ELISA values that were four times higher than those of the control group (p < 0.05). The supplemented group also showed higher ELISA values for the IgGa and IgGT sub-isotypes compared to the control group. In PBMCs stimulated with B. toyonensis, relative cytokine transcription of the supplemented group showed 15-, 8-, 7-, and 6-fold increases for IL1, TNFα, IL10 and IL4, respectively. When stimulated with a vaccine antigen, the supplemented group showed 1.6-, 1.8-, and 0.5-fold increases in IL1, TNFα, and IL4, respectively, compared to the control group. Horses supplemented with B. toyonensis had a significantly improved vaccine immune response compared to those in the control group, which suggests a promising approach for improving vaccine efficacy with probiotics.

We present a Raman spectroscopy study of the vibrational properties of free-base meso-tetra(4-pyridyl) porphyrin polycrystals under various temperature and hydrostatic pressure conditions. The combination of experimental results and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations allows us to assign most of the observed Raman bands. The modifications in the Raman spectra when excited with 488 nm and 532 nm laser lights indicate that a resonance effect in the Qy band is taking place. The pressure-dependent results show that the resonance conditions change with increasing pressure, probably due to the shift of the electronic transitions. The temperature-dependent results show that the relative intensities of the Raman modes change at low temperatures, while no frequency shifts are observed. The experimental and theoretical analysis presented here suggest that these molecules are well represented by the C2v point symmetry group.

AIM: Investigating the association between sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and periodontitis and whether the awareness of diabetes modifies this relationship. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis was conducted using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) data involving US adults aged 30-50. Periodontitis was classified according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and American Academy of Periodontology (CDC-AAP), and SSB consumption as dichotomous (<5 or ≥5, <7 or ≥7 and <14 or ≥14 times/week), ordinal and continuous variables. Confounders included family income poverty ratio, education, race/ethnicity, sex, age, food energy intake, smoking and alcohol. Odds ratios (ORs) were obtained by logistic regressions using inverse probability weighting. Effect modification analysis was performed considering self-reported diabetes. RESULTS: Among 4473 cases analysed, 198 self-reported diabetes. SSBs were associated with periodontitis when individuals consumed ≥5 (OR 1.64; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.30-2.06), ≥7 (OR 1.92; 95% CI = 1.50-2.46) and ≥14 (OR 2.19; 95% CI = 1.50-3.18) times/week. The combined effect of consuming SSBs (≥5 and ≥14 times/week) and self-reported diabetes had less impact than the cumulative effect. CONCLUSIONS: SSB consumption was associated with higher odds of periodontitis, and the estimates were reduced among those with awareness of diabetes.

The cytokine microenvironment is crucial in generating and polarizing the immune response. A means of monitoring this environment would be of great value for better understanding Toxocara canis immune modulation. The aim of this study was to analyze the dynamics of cytokine transcription ex vivo, during early (24-48 hours) and late (15-30 days) times post-infection, in the mesenteric lymph nodes, spleen and intestinal mucosa of Balb/c mice experimentally infected with T. canis larvae. Mice in the treated group were infected with 100 third-stage larvae (L3), whereas mice in the control group were not infected. Analyses were performed at different times: 24-48 hours post-infection (HPI), 15-30 days post-infection (DPI). IL4, IL10, IL12 and Ym1 mRNA transcriptions were analyzed through qPCR. This study showed cytokine transcription mediated by migrating larvae in the mesenteric lymph nodes and spleen at 24-48 HPI, whereas cytokine transcription in the intestinal mucosa was observed only at late times (15-30 DPI). These results suggest that the T. canis larvae migration during infection might play a role in cytokine dynamics. Since the cytokine microenvironment is crucial in modulating immune response, knowledge of cytokine dynamics during T. canis infections pave the way to better understand its interaction with the host.

OBJECTIVES: Periodontitis is a non-communicable disease (NCD) that may be linked to other NCDs through shared risk factors. Accordingly, we analyzed the relationship between periodontitis and behavioral and metabolic risks common to NCDs in Brazilian adults over three decades. METHODS: Indicators of periodontitis, behavioral risks (smoking, alcohol use, sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB), and physical activity), and metabolic risks (overweight/obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, and hypertension) in Brazilian adults (25-49 y-old) between 1990 to 2019 were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. Data were adjusted for Gini index. Fixed-effects and Prais-Winsten regressions were performed (p < 0.05). RESULTS: The prevalence of periodontitis has increased among Brazilians since 2005. High-SSB diet, alcohol use, and metabolic risks increased between 1990-2019, whereas smoking decreased. In crude models, periodontitis prevalence increased with alcohol use (2545.1; 95%CI: 2307.9-2782.3), high-SSB diet (365.5; 95%CI: 322.5-408.4), low physical activity (1784.4; 95%CI: 763.7-2805.0), overweight/obesity (172.3; 95%CI: 156.3-188.4), dyslipidemia (734.5; 95%CI: 624.7-844.2), and hyperglycemia (1774.3; 95%CI: 1555.9-1992.7). After adjustment for the Gini index, periodontitis prevalence raised with a high-SBB diet (1416.0; 95%CI: 1120.2-1711.8), overweight/obesity (629.9; 95%CI: 573.1-686.8), dyslipidemia (2035.8; 95%CI: 1728.1-2343.5), and hyperglycemia (8918.1; 95%CI: 7979.8-9856.3). CONCLUSIONS: Periodontitis has increased in Brazil since 2005, despite the smoking reduction. Sugar-sweetened beverage was the behavioral risk that mostly accompanied the periodontal trend. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Our results support upstream strategies targeting commercial, social, political, and structural determinants to tackle NCDs and reduce oral health inequities.

(1) Background: To investigate the grouping of obesity and insulin resistance with caries and periodontitis from a syndemic perspective through pathways of socioeconomic inequalities, smoking, alcohol, and high sugar consumption in adolescence. (2) Methods: The population-based RPS Cohort study, São Luís, Brazil, in ages 18-19 years (n = 2515) was used. The outcomes were the grouping of pbesity and Insulin Resistance Phenotype (latent variable formed by Triglycerides/HDL ratio, TyG index, and VLDL) and the Chronic Oral Disease Burden (latent variable comprising caries, bleeding on probing, probing depth ≥ 4 mm, clinical attachment level ≥ 3 mm, and visible plaque index ≥ 15%). Socioeconomic Inequalities influencing the Behavioral Risk Factors (latent variable formed by added sugar, smoking, and alcohol) were analyzed using structural equation modeling. (3) Results: Socioeconomic Inequalities were associated with the Chronic Oral Disease Burden [Standardized Coefficient (SC) = 0.222, p < 0.001]. Behavioral Risk Factors were associated with increased Chronic Oral Disease Burden (SC = 0.103; p = 0.013). Obesity was associated with the Insulin Resistance Phenotype (SC = 0.072; p < 0.001) and the Chronic Oral Disease Burden (SC = 0.066; p = 0.005). The Insulin Resistance Phenotype and the Chronic Oral Disease Burden were associated (SC = 0.053; p = 0.032). (4) Conclusion: The grouping of obesity and early events of diabetes with caries and periodontitis call for a syndemic approach in adolescence.

The aim of the present study was to carry out a serological survey to identify the seroprevalence of Lawsonia intracellularis in six Thoroughbred farms in the Southern region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. During 2019 and 2020, blood samples from 686 Thoroughbred horses were obtained from six different breeding farms. Horses were divided into groups according to age: (1) broodmares (>5 years), (2) two-year-old foals, (3) yearlings, and (4) 0-6 months-old foals. Blood samples were collected by venipuncture of the external jugular vein. The detection of antibodies (IgG) against L. intracellularis was performed by Immunoperoxidase Monolayer Assay. The detection of specific antibodies (IgG) against L. intracellularis in the evaluated population was 51%. The highest detection (86.8%) of IgG was in the broodmares category, while the lowest (5.2%) was in foals of 0-6 months of age. Regarding the farms, the Farm 1 had the highest (67.4%) prevalence of seropositivity against L. intracellularis, while Farm 4 had the lowest (30.6%). There was no record of clinical manifestation of Equine Proliferative Enteropathy in the sampled animals. The results of this study show the high seroprevalence of L. intracellularis in Thoroughbred farms in the Southern of Rio Grande do Sul, suggesting a large and continuous exposure to the agent.

Several cytokines with major biological functions in inflammatory diseases exert their functions through the Janus kinase (JAK)-signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signal transduction pathway. JAKs phosphorylate the cytoplasmic domain of the receptor, inducing the activation of its substrates, mainly the proteins known as STATs. STATs bind to these phosphorylated tyrosine residues and translocate from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, further regulating the transcription of several genes that regulate the inflammatory response. The JAK/STAT signaling pathway plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. There is also increasing evidence indicating that the persistent activation of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway is related to several inflammatory bone (osteolytic) diseases. However, the specific mechanism remains to be clarified. JAK/STAT signaling pathway inhibitors have gained major scientific interest to explore their potential in the prevention of the destruction of mineralized tissues in osteolytic diseases. Here, our review highlights the importance of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway in inflammation-induced bone resorption and presents the results of clinical studies and experimental models of JAK inhibitors in osteolytic diseases.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate pathways from micronutrient intake and serum levels to Chronic Oral Diseases Burden. METHODS: We analyzed cross-sectional data from NHANES III (n = 7936) and NHANES 2011-2014 (n = 4929). The exposure was the intake and serum levels of vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus. Considering the high correlation of those micronutrients in the diet, they were analyzed as a latent variable dubbed Micronutrient intake. The outcome was the Chronic Oral Diseases Burden, a latent variable formed by probing pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, furcation involvement, caries, and missing teeth. Pathways triggered by gender, age, socioeconomic status, obesity, smoking, and alcohol were also estimated using structural equation modeling. RESULTS: In both NHANES cycles, micronutrient intake (p-value < 0.05) and vitamin D serum (p-value < 0.05) were associated with a lower Chronic Oral Diseases Burden. Micronutrient intake reduced the Chronic Oral Diseases Burden via vitamin D serum (p-value < 0.05). Obesity increased the Chronic Oral Diseases Burden by reducing vitamin D serum (p-value < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Higher micronutrient intake and higher vitamin D serum levels seem to reduce Chronic Oral Diseases Burden. Healthy diet policies may jointly tackle caries, periodontitis, obesity, and other non-communicable diseases.

AIM: To investigate the confluence of caries and periodontitis indicators from adolescence to elderhood among Americans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study explored the grouping among a set of caries and periodontitis indicators (the proportion of sites with bleeding on probing, moderate probing pocket depth [PPD, 4-5 mm], severe PPD [≥6 mm], moderate clinical attachment level [CAL, 3-4 mm], severe CAL [≥5 mm], number of teeth with furcation involvement, number of decayed teeth, number of teeth with pulp involvement, and the number of missing teeth) in 14,421 Americans from the NHANES III study. Exploratory factorial analysis was used to determine the constructs between those indicators (factorial loading ≥0.3). These analyses were stratified by age and confirmed with a confirmatory factorial analysis. We also performed a sensitivity analysis using the NHANES 2011-2014. RESULTS: Two constructs were extracted. The first, Chronic Oral Diseases Burden, grouped caries indicators with moderate PPD and moderate CAL for the youngest subjects (13-39 years old), while for the subjects over 50 years, the Chronic Oral Disease Burden grouped caries indicators with severe CAL and PPD and furcation involvement. The second construct, Periodontal Destruction, grouped only periodontitis indicators. CONCLUSIONS: Caries and periodontitis indicators grouped consistently across the different age ranges in lapse times of 25 years.

INTRODUCTION: Brazil has experienced transformations in higher education and health services, including launching more inclusive public policies focused on these two areas. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the profile of final-year dental students from a Brazilian public university from 2010 to 2019, accompanied by changes in public health and higher education policies. METHODS: A prospective observacional study was carried out with final-year dental students. A self-applicable semi-structured questionnaire was applied. RESULT: Six-hundred and seventy-seven students participated, of which 71.5% were women, 72.9% aged between 21 and 25 years, 96.2% single, and 96.4% were without children. Over ten years, it was possible to identify trends in the profile explained by implementing public policies toward more inclusive access to Brazilian higher education by socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals. Students who completed the course between 2018 and 2019 did not have the state capital city (the wealthiest area) as their origin city and had lower parental education and income levels than dental students graduating between 2010 and 2011. Moreover, working as a primary care dentist in the Brazilian National Health System was considered a professional possibility by 61.4% of the students, and has gained prominence significantly over time, ranging from 21.1% in 2010 to 72.9% in 2019 (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Over the study period, concomitantly to advances in public health and higher education policies in Brazil, more diverse access to public dental education was observed, allowing students from low socioeconomic positions to take the education. Changes have also impacted the students' perspectives regarding the need for postgraduate training and a career in public health dentistry. However, these trends need to be consolidated, and public policies continued and strengthened.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between insulin resistance markers and periodontitis in adolescents, analyzing confounder variables and the adiposity as a mediator. METHODS: This is population-based study is representative of adolescents aged 17-18 years from public schools in São Luís, Brazil (n = 405). Insulin resistance was assessed using the Model of Assessment of the Homeostasis of the Insulin Resistance Index (HOMA-IR) and its percussor triglycerides/HDL-cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c). The outcome was Initial Periodontitis, a latent variable estimated by the common variance shared among bleeding on probing, probing depth ≥ 4 mm, and clinical attachment loss ≥ 4 mm. The association between insulin resistance and Initial Periodontitis was modeled via pathways triggered by socioeconomic status, smoking, alcohol, and Adiposity, using structural equation modeling. RESULTS: Higher TG/HDL-c was directly associated with higher Initial Periodontitis (standardized coefficient [SC] = 0.130, p < 0.001). HOMA-IR was not associated with periodontal outcome (SC = 0.023, p = 0.075), but it was with Adiposity (SC = 0.495, p < 0.001). Higher TG/HDL-c was associated with Adiposity (SC = 0.202, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The insulin resistance markers were associated with early signs of periodontal breakdown among adolescents, suggesting a possible relationship between diabetes and periodontitis commences early in life.

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Berliner has potential for use in insect management. Its use can be an alternative for the management of Bradysia aff. ocellaris (Comstock), considered one of the main strawberry pests in a soilless system. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the toxicity of different bacteria on B. aff. ocellaris in laboratory and greenhouse bioassays. The following isolates were used in the experiments: Bacillus circulans (Bc), B. thuringiensis var. oswaldo cruzi (Bto) or B. thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) and B. thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk) In the laboratory, B. aff. ocellaris larvae showed high susceptibility to Bti isolate (92 % mortality) 14 days after treatment exposure (DAET). In contrast, the isolates Bc, Bto, and Btk showed less than 32 % mortality, not differing from the control treatment (water ­ 22 % mortality). According to the concentration-response curves the values of lethal concentration LC50 and LC90 were 4 x 106 CFU.mL-1 and 4 x 1015 CFU.mL-1. By applying Bti (4 × 1012 CFU.mL-1) at the base of strawberry plants growing in plastic pots containing commercial plant substrate, a reduction of 26 % in the emergence of B. aff. ocellaris was observed. According to these results, the Bti isolate is considered promising for the formulation of bioinsecticides based on Bt for the management of B. aff. ocellaris in strawberry culture.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between added sugar intake above the daily limit for the risk of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and the Chronic Oral Disease Burden in adolescents. METHODS: This was a population-based study using cross-sectional data nested to RPS Cohorts Consortium, São Luís, Brazil, from the 18-19-year-old follow-up (n = 2515). High consumption of added sugars was estimated according to the limits of the World Health Organization guidelines (WHO) (≥5% of total energy/day) and the American Heart Association statement (AHA) (≥25 g/day). The Chronic Oral Disease Burden was a latent variable (number of decayed teeth, periodontal probing depth ≥4 mm, clinical attachment level ≥3 mm, and bleeding on probing). Models were adjusted for Socioeconomic Status, sex, obesity, and plaque index and analyzed through structural equation modeling. RESULTS: Adolescents had high sugar consumption according to the WHO (78.6%) and AHA (81.4%) recommendations. High sugar intake, according to WHO (SC = 0.096; p = 0.007) and AHA (SC = 0.056; p = 0.027), was associated with a heavier Chronic Oral Disease Burden. Even half of the recommended dose was sufficient to affect some oral disease indicators. CONCLUSION: Sugar intake over international statements to prevent NCDs is associated with higher Chronic Oral Disease Burden among adolescents.

Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is a type of fermentation process with potential to use agro-industrial by-products as a carbon source. Nonetheless, there are few studies evaluating SSF compared to submerged fermentation (SmF) to produce polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). Different methodologies are available associating the two processes. In general, the studies employ a 1st step by SSF to hydrolyze the agro-industrial by-products used as a carbon source, and a 2nd step to produce PHA that can be carried out by SmF or SSF. This paper reviewed and compared the different methodologies described in the literature to assess their potential for use in PHA production. The studies evaluated showed that highest PHA yields (86.2% and 82.3%) were achieved by associating SSF and SmF by Cupriavidus necator. Meanwhile, in methodologies using only SSF, Bacillus produced the highest yields (62% and 56.8%). Since PHA (%) does not necessarily represent a higher production by biomass, the productivity parameter was also compared between studies. We observed that the highest productivity results did not necessarily represent the highest PHA (%). C. necator presented the highest PHA yields associating SSF and SmF, however, is not the most suitable microorganism for PHA production by SSF. Concomitant use of C. necator and Bacillus is suggested for future studies in SSF. Also, it discusses the lack of studies on the association of the two fermentation methodologies, and on the scaling of SSF process for PHA production. In addition to demonstrating the need for standardization of results, for comparison between different methodologies.

Haemonchus contortus is the most pathogenic parasite for sheep. The objective was to evaluate immunomodulation of the probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii in sheep experimentally infected with H. contortus. Twenty-four sheep were divided into three groups: one infected with 500 H. contortus larvae/day for 26 days and supplemented with S. boulardii (40 ml with 1 × 108 CFU/ml/day); a control group only infected with H. contortus but not supplemented; and a naïve group that never came into contact with either parasites or S. boulardii. To assess the humoral immune response, production of specific serum IgG anti-somatic H. contortus antigen was evaluated through indirect ELISA. To assess the cellular immune response, cell populations and cytokine (IL-4, IL-5 and IL-10) production were evaluated through flow cytometry. For parasitological analyses, the counts of eggs per gram of faeces (EPG) and larvae per faecal culture were assessed. At all the study points, the concentration of IgG anti-H. contortus was higher (p < .05) in the S. boulardii group than in the other groups. The cell analysis revealed that there were significantly higher numbers (p < .05) of cells expressing MHC-II and significantly higher numbers (p < .05) of eosinophils in the mucosa in the S. boulardii group. Significant expression of IL-10 was observed only in the control infected group. There were significant reductions (p < .05) in EPG and larval counts in the S. boulardii supplemented group. These results show that S. boulardii supplementation modulated the immune response against H. contortus, thereby reducing its infection.

Haemonchus contortus is one of the most important gastrointestinal nematodes infecting sheep, being a production-limiting factor in sheep herds. Biological control has been used for many years either in combination with traditional parasiticides or as an alternative treatment itself. Bacillus thuringiensis can be a promising tool for an integrate control of H. contortus in sheep herds by disrupting nematode's life cycle, thus decontaminating pasture. This study aims to evaluate the larvicidal efficacy of Bacillus thuringiensis var. oswaldocruzi (Bto) on the development of H. contortus larvae in fecal sheep cultures. Bto concentrations (~1010 colony forming units, CFU / mL) were orally administered to thirty-six ewes naturally infected with H. contortus in three different pharmaceutical forms: hard gelatin capsule, mucoadhesive gel or suspension. The different treatments were carried out in a single oral administration (SOA). All formulations were effective in inhibiting larvae development compared with control groups in all time points studied (p < 0.05). The mucoadhesive gel showed ~90% of efficacy on inhibiting larvae development during all the time points post SOA. The suspension had 85% efficacy on inhibiting larvae development at 24-48 h and 96% at 72-96 h. The hard gelatin capsule was 57%, 62%, 73% and 96% effective inhibiting larvae development at 24, 48, 72 and 96 h, respectively. This study highlights that disrupting the infective larval stage in the environment Bacillus thuringiensis var. oswaldocruzi is a promising prophylactic alternative in the H. contortus control.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an inflammatory and autoimmune disease whose biomarker is the anti-AQP4-IgG autoantibody that binds to aquaporin-4 (AQP4) protein. We introduced a nanosensor with a sensitivity of 84.6%, higher than the CBA's 76.5%. Using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), we detected not only seropositive but also some false-negative patients previously classified with CBA. It consisted of AgNPs coated with one of a panel of 5 AQP4 epitopes. The ability in detecting the anti-AQP4-IgG in NMOSD patients depended on the epitope and synergy could be obtained by combining different epitopes. We demonstrated that NMOSD patients could easily be distinguished from healthy subjects and patients with multiple sclerosis. Using the most sensitive AQP461-70 peptide, we established a calibration curve to estimate the concentration of anti-AQP4-IgG in seropositive NMOSD patients. The ability to enhance the accuracy of the diagnosis may improve the prognosis of 10-27% of anti-AQP4-IgG seronegative patients worldwide.

RATIONALE: The FDA-approved Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) as an oral drug for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) treatment based on its immunomodulatory activities. However, it also caused severe adverse effects mainly related to the gastrointestinal system. OBJECTIVE: Investigated the potential effects of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) containing DMF, administered by inhalation on the clinical signs, central nervous system (CNS) inflammatory response, and lung function changes in mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: EAE was induced using MOG35-55 peptide in female C57BL/6J mice and the mice were treated via inhalation with DMF-encapsulated SLN (CTRL/SLN/DMF and EAE/SLN/DMF), empty SLN (CTRL/SLN and EAE/SLN), or saline solution (CTRL/saline and EAE/saline), every 72 h during 21 days. RESULTS: After 21 days post-induction, EAE mice treated with DMF-loaded SLN, when compared with EAE/saline and EAE/SLN, showed decreased clinical score and weight loss, reduction in brain and spinal cord injury and inflammation, also related to the increased influx of Foxp3+ cells into the spinal cord and lung tissues. Moreover, our data revealed that EAE mice showed signs of respiratory disease, marked by increased vascular permeability, leukocyte influx, production of TNF-α and IL-17, perivascular and peribronchial inflammation, with pulmonary mechanical dysfunction associated with loss of respiratory volumes and elasticity, which DMF-encapsulated reverted in SLN nebulization. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that inhalation of DMF-encapsulated SLN is an effective therapeutic protocol that reduces not only the CNS inflammatory process and disability progression, characteristic of EAE disease, but also protects mice from lung inflammation and pulmonary dysfunction.
