RESUMO
Researchers have reported on the diet of Leopardus tigrinus and ecological aspects, but studies of behavior are scarce. The aims of this study were to describe the time budget and activity patterns of 10 captive Leopardus tigrinus individuals. The group had an activity budget of 66% resting, 20.66% moving, 6.08% vigilant, 3.12% feeding, and 4.14% other activities during 720 hr of observations. The activity budgets of the males and females did not differ significantly; however, males ate more than did females. The nonhuman animals spent more time resting during the day than during the night. Moving, socializing, maintenance, and vigilance showed statistically higher mean values at night. Group analysis of the temporal pattern of behavior showed bimodal peaks. Activity levels were high from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and decreased through the day only to peak again at 7 p.m. Stereotypic pacing peaked at dawn and at dusk. Patterns of vigilance, feeding, and maintenance were also determined for the group during a 24-hr period. These results may be useful for the development of management plans and effective conservation strategies for captive cats.

Pingüim de Magalhães (Spheniscusmagellanicus) é uma espécie que habita as regiões frias do mundo e formam colônias de centenas de milhares de indivíduos. Durante o inverno do hemisfério sul, estes podem se perder na corrente das Malvinas e chegar à costa Sul e Sudeste do Brasil, onde são resgatados e levados para os zoológicos ou centros de recuperação. A maioria dos espécimes de pingüim chega debilitada e doente, necessitando de cuidados intensivos.O presente trabalho relatou a retirada, por técnica endoscópica, de um anzol fixado no tubo digestivo de um jovem Pingüim de Magalhães que foi levado a Fundação RIOZOO. Com a retirada bem sucedida do anzol da região esofágica associada à excelente e rápida recuperação clínica do animal, concluiu-se que o endoscópio pode ser utilizado como uma das ferramentas terapêuticas em casos de retirada de corpo estranho de tubos digestivos de aves(AU)
Magellanicpenguim(Spheniscusmagellanicus) is a species that inhabit the cold regions of the world and form colonies of hundreds of thousands of individuals. During the southern hemisphere winter, they may get lost in the Malvinas current and reach the south coast and southeastern Brazil, where they are rescued and taken to zoos or rescue centers. Most species of penguin gets weak and ill, requiring intensive care. This paper reported the withdrawal by endoscopic techniques, a fixed fishhook in the gut of a young Magellanic penguin that was taken RIOZOO Foundation. With the successful exit of the hook region of the esophagus associated with excellent and rapid recovery of the animal, it was concluded that the endoscope can be used as one of therapeutic tools in cases of foreign body removal of gut of birds(AU)

Cochliomyia hominivorax infestation in domestic cats of an urban colony in the city of Rio de Janeiro is described. The overall prevalence over the period 2001-2005 was 12.5%. Only adult cats were found infested and among these, most cases were observed in males (28%) (p < or = 0.05). The most frequently infested areas of the cats' bodies were the face and nape of the neck. Most lesions were found on the front part of the body of adult males (80%), suggesting that myiasis occur in consequence of competitive fighting wounds.
