RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that provides a reduction in glycated hemoglobin and weight. The objective was to evaluate whether the use of semaglutide, in individuals with overweight or obesity, reduces cardiovascular outcomes and adverse effects (AE). METHODS: The data bases Pubmed, Lilacs, Scielo, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane Library were surveyed. RESULTS: Initially, 3333 articles were found, of which 19 articles were included. An additional search included 19 studies, totaling 38 articles. Relative risk (RR) values were significant for hospitalization due to heart failure (HF) 0.24 95% CI 0.12-0.57 (n = 2; 1045 participants; I² = 0.18), death due to cardiovascular causes 0.83 95% CI 0.71-0.98 (n = 3; 24 084 participants; I² = 0.21), death from any cause 0.79 95% CI 0.70-0.89 (n = 3; 24 084 participants; I² = 0.07), coronary revascularization 0.76 95% CI 0.69-0.85 (n = 2;20 951 participants; I² = 0.41), and non-fatal myocardial infarction 0.76 95%CI 0.66-0.88 (n = 3; 24 084 participants; I² = 0.21), with a difference between the subgroups (p = 0.05), favoring the subcutaneous administration route. The RR of stroke was 0.65 95% CI 0.44-0.97 for patients with diabetes (n = 2; 6480 participants; I² = 0.66). There was no difference between the frequency of constipation and routes of administration, as well as between doses of oral semaglutide. The RR of adverse effects was only not significant for discontinuation of treatment for oral semaglutide. CONCLUSION: The use of semaglutide reduced 76% in hospitalization due to HF, 17% deaths due to cardiovascular causes, 21% deaths due to any cause, 24% non-fatal myocardial infarction, 24% coronary revascularization and 35% stroke (in patients with diabetes). The use of semaglutide was associated with a higher relative risk and frequency of most adverse effects evaluated.
RESUMO
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the 3D accuracy of attachment positioning and the adaptation of aligners to attachments using in-house templates made with either polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) or ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and either pressure or vacuum thermoforming machines. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Overall, 140 test specimens were resin-printed. Templates for the attachment bonding were made with 1-mm EVA or 0.5-mm PETG laminates. Orthodontic aligners were manufactured with 0.75-mm PETG. The thermoplastification process was carried out using either vacuum or pressure machines. The positional differences between the virtual and bonded attachments were assessed in the X, Y and Z coordinates. The marginal adaptation between the aligners and the attachments was measured. RESULTS: Minor inaccuracies in the positioning of the attachments were observed in all combinations of thermoforming machines and plastic laminates used to fabricate the templates, mainly in the superior-inferior (Z) dimension. PETG performed better than EVA in the anterior region (p < .05). No association was found between thermoplastification machines and the accuracy of the positioning of the attachments (p > .05). While small misadaptations between the aligners and the attachments were observed, the EVA templates performed better than the PETG templates. CONCLUSIONS: The inaccuracy of the attachment positioning and the misadaptation of the aligners to the attachments were slight. The vacuum and pressure thermoplastification machines showed no difference in attachment positioning accuracy. The PETG template was better than the EVA template in the anterior region, but the EVA attachments presented a better adaptation to the aligners than the PETG attachments.
RESUMO
This work originated from the demand presented by an electric power transmission company and addresses a possible solution for the sector by exploring alternatives to extend the flight time of drones in the inspection of transmission lines. This original article demonstrates the use of the electromagnetic field of a transmission line to generate useful electrical power at the terminals of a bulb containing argon gas. It is an unprecedented application in power transmission. In this work, the tests based on a proof of concept are documented, where the results obtained were satisfactory and still allowed to connect an LED through the constructed arrangement. It is observed that the continuity of this research can provide scalability for applications whose main source of ion excitation is given from the energy dissipated as electric field loss in high-voltage lines.
RESUMO
ABSTRACT Insects are fundamental to biodiversity conservation in almost all ecosystems, and their population decline, and extinction directly result from environmental impacts. These facts are aggravated by the lack of knowledge of insect biodiversity, the so-called biodiversity deficits, especially the Linnean and Wallacean shortfalls. In freshwater ecosystems, biodiversity loss is higher among aquatic insects, and caddisflies comprise one of the most vulnerable orders. In this way, research focusing on describing new caddisfly species and understanding their distribution ranges will increase knowledge of caddisfly biodiversity. In the past 14 years, the team from the Laboratório de Entomologia Aquática "Prof. Dr. Claudio Gilberto Froehlich" (LEAq, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil) and collaborators have been addressing these issues, resulting in 55 described species of caddisflies. Taxa in other insect orders have also received attention and an additional 16 species have been described (eight mayflies, four stoneflies, four neuropteran spongillaflies, and antlions). Here, eight caddisfly species are described and illustrated (Atopsyche froehlichi sp. nov., Austrotinodes zeferina sp. nov., Cernotina kariri sp. nov., Neoathripsodes froehlichi sp. nov., Notalina claudiofroehlichi sp. nov., Oecetis marcus sp. nov., Phylloicus froehlichi sp. nov., and Polycentropus claudioi sp. nov.), five of them in honor of LEAq's patron. In addition, new distributional data are presented for 10 known species. A checklist of the caddisfly fauna of Bahia state is also presented, with 138 species, around 75% and 30% of them recorded and described by the LEAq team, respectively. Currently, for caddisflies, Bahia is the fifth most species-rich state in Brazil, and the first in the Brazilian Northeast region.
RESUMO
The growth of generations of the Genomar Supreme Tilapia (GST) strain, specifically G20 and G25, was evaluated. Tilapias 8 g were reared in a recirculating aquaculture system with 0.25 m³ tanks, 80 fish m-³, with four replicates. During growth, eight fish from each tank were weighed and measured at day 1, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 and 210. Survival, weight gain, feed conversion and batch homogeneity were determined. Weight-age data were fit to Gompertz model. In addition, absolute and relative growth rates and weight and age at inflection were determined. Final weight showed 26.7% higher in G25 when compared to G20 (920.05 and 725.87 g, respectively). The feed conversion and homogeneity indexes were better in G25 than G20. The estimate of asymptotic weight was higher in G25 (1202.0 g) when compared to G20 (912.7 g). G20 presented smaller weight (335.76 g), age (108.87 days) and absolute growth rate (4.87 g day-1) when compared with G25 (442.19 g, 113.77 days and 6.41 g day-1). Carcass characteristics were similar, but G25 presented about 25% higher fillet weight than G20. After five years in the GST breeding program, results indicated that a sustained improvement of harvest weight was achieved, as well as 6 to 10% gain in performance by generation.(AU)

PURPOSE: Certain ocular resident or pathogenic microbes may remain viable in the presence of multi-purpose disinfectant solutions (MPDSs), subsequently developing biofilms inside contact lens storage cases (CLSCs) which pose a risk of infection to wearers. This study evaluated the formation of ocular microbiota biofilms exposed to three top selling MPDS. METHODS: Crystal violet assay was carried out for the verification of biofilm formation. The in vitro assays evaluated Pseudomonas aeruginosa UFPEDA 416 and Staphylococcus aureus UFPEDA 02 exposure of 48 h to MPDS, as well as the use of 40 KHz ultrasound at the beginning and with 24 h immersion in the MPDS. Subsequently, in vivo assays evaluated the formation of microbial biofilms on the CLSC walls containing silicone-hydrogel contact lenses immersed in MPDS from 15 healthy volunteer patients, who had been wearing the lenses for 7 days. RESULTS: Biofilms were inhibited by 26%-98% in the in vitro assays, with a statistically significant difference only for P. aeruginosa UFPEDA 416 exposed to diluted MPDS. Most inhibitions occurred moderately and weakly. In addition, adherent cells were detected in more than 90% of the tests. Biofilm was not inhibited in more than one third of the results, nor was it disturbed, especially with the ultrasound treatments. The average of obtained optical densities at 590 nm was between 0.6 and 0.8 in the in vivo assays. The results were similar between the CLSC right and left wells. There was a correlation between microbial biofilm formation and the type of MPDS tested, with statistical difference between the three treatments. CONCLUSION: MPDS promoted a partial inhibition of microbial biofilm formation but only one MPDS proved to be more effective in vitro and in vivo. This study, however, could not distinguish the effect of possible errors in the good hygiene practices of the users.

INTRODUCTION: Spinal anesthesia combined with sedation and general anesthesia combined with epidural are two techniques often used for patients undergoing abdominal hysterectomy. There is no consensus that one of these techniques is superior regarding the perception of patients towards the quality of postoperative recovery. This observational cross-sectional study aimed to assess the quality of postoperative recovery in women undergoing open abdominal hysterectomy by comparing both anesthetic techniques. METHOD: We recruited 162 women aged between 30 and 74 years to be submitted to abdominal hysterectomy. The anesthetic technique used followed the preference of the attending anesthesiologist without interference of the investigators. After applying the exclusion criteria, 80 patients underwent spinal anesthesia combined with sedation (Group 1) and 62 women underwent epidural anesthesia combined with general anesthesia (Group 2). The quality of postoperative recovery was evaluated using the questionnaire Quality of Recovery-40 (QoR-40) completed 24 hours after the end of the surgery. RESULTS: Eighty patients in Group 1 answered the QoR-40 questionnaire with an average rating of 179.4 points, median of 186.5, standard deviation of 17.4 and a confidence interval of 3.8. The 60 patients in Group 2 answered the QoR-40 with an average of 174.9 points, median of 178 points, standard deviation of 16 points and a confidence interval of 4.0 (p = 0.024). CONCLUSION: Women who received spinal anesthesia combined with sedation considered quality of postoperative recovery better.

OBJECTIVE: to assess the socioeconomic and demographic profiles of patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of diabetic foot in a tertiary hospital in Belem-PA, Brazil, as well as to evaluate risk factors for lower limb amputations in such patients, classifying them according to the Wagner and PEDIS classifications. METHODS: we conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional, unicentric, and analytical study carried out through a structured questionnaire. RESULTS: the study consisted of 57 patients, aged between 48 and 84 years old, 66.7% being male. The average income ranged between one and three (61.4%) minimum wages and below one minimum wage (31.6%). Type II Diabetes Mellitus was predominant (86.0%). Concerning comorbidities, arterial hypertension displayed the highest proportion (62.3%), followed by dyslipidemia (52.8%). Smokers comprised 35.1% of the sample. Infectious diabetic foot (50.9%) and mixed diabetic foot (49.1%) were the most common. Of the 20 patients with previous amputation, 90% had undergone minor amputation, and 10%, major ones. Callosity (92.6%) was the most prevalent deformity. Fifty-four (94.7%) patients underwent surgery, those being debridement (24.1%), minor amputation (37.0%) and major amputation (38.9%). During hospitalization, 78.9% of individuals did not require ICU stay. Hospitalization time varied between three and 59 days, and 78.9% of hospitalized patients did not progress to death, but 43.1% of patients submitted to major amputations died. CONCLUSION: patients with diabetic foot followed-up have a low socioeconomic profile; most of them underwent surgical procedures, whether major or minor, due to the higher prevalence of infectious diabetic foot and/or non-adherence to non-operative treatment.

This clinical case report aims to describe the use of allogeneic bone in the atrophic maxilla reconstruction for subsequent rehabilitation with a fixed metal-ceramic prosthesis on implants; to perform a histological analysis of the grafted bone tissue; and to describe the clinical and radiographic monitoring for 8 years. A 54-year-old patient, with partial edentulism and moderate-to-severe atrophy in the maxilla showed great interest in receiving implant prostheses. After c linical and radiographic examination, the ASA study models were assembled for diagnostic waxing and a multifunctional guide (tomographic / surgical) was obtained. Tomography indicated the need for maxillary bone reconstruction. Allogeneic bone blocks were then placed for horizontal enlargement in the anterior and posterior regions of the maxilla. One of the blocks was crushed and used to lift the floor of the maxillary sinus on the left side. Ten months later, a new tomography was requested, using the same initial guide, and the implants installed, using the multifunctional guide as a surgical guide. At this time, bone material was collected at the grafted bone / native bone interface with a trephine drill. Histological results demonstrated viability of bone cells in the graft, besides the presence of blood vessels. After the necessary time for osseointegration, a prosthetic treatment was performed. No complications were reported up to eight years of control. The propose treatment sequence provided good aesthetic and functional results. It was concluded, then, that the use of allogeneic bone is a viable alternative for the reconstruction of severely reabsorbed alveolar edges(AU)

The aim of this study was to investigate the antihypertensive properties of cis-[Ru(bpy)2ImN(NO)]3+ (FOR0811) in normotensive and in Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME)-induced hypertensive rats. Vasorelaxant effects were analyzed by performing concentration response curve to FOR0811 in rat aortic rings in the absence or presence of 1H-[1,2,4]-oxadiazolo-[4,3,-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ), L-cysteine or hydroxocobalamin. Normotensive and L-NAME-hypertensive rats were treated with FOR0811 and the effects in blood pressure and heart rate variability in the frequency domain (HRV) were followed. FOR0811 induced relaxation in rat aortic rings. Neither endothelium removal nor L-cysteine altered the FOR0811 effects. However, the incubation with ODQ and hydroxocobalamin completely blunted FOR0811 effects. FOR0811 administered intravenously by bolus infusion (0.01-1 mg/bolus) or chronically by using subcutaneous implanted osmotic pumps significantly reduced the mean arterial blood pressure. The effect was long lasting and did not induce reflex tachycardia. FOR0811 prevented both LF and VLF increases in L-NAME hypertensive rats and has antihypertensive properties. This new ruthenium complex compound might be a promising nitric oxide donor to treat cardiovascular diseases.

Honey is a natural product that has several beneficial properties for health, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, which depend on its composition. In this context, physicochemical properties (colour, pH, ash, moisture, sugars, and total phenolic contents) and antioxidant activity (DPPH radical scavenging ability) of Apis mellifera honeys from Santarém, the main honey production area in the eastern Amazon region, were evaluated. Most samples were dark in colour and acidic. The ash and moisture contents ranged from 0.112 to 0.318 and from 14.751 to 17.514, respectively. The reducing sugars content was 62.873-91.563%. The total amount of phenolic compounds was higher than normally reported, ranging between 15.22 and 16.51 mg g1 and 17.70 and 18.94 mg g1, for honey after and before exposure to light, respectively. Quercetin was found only in honey that had been protected from light, with values ranging from 0.24 to 0.43 mg g-1. The absence of quercetin in the samples of honey exposed to light suggests that UV radiation has degraded this compound. All samples presented maximum radical scavenging capacity close to 50%. Our results showed inverse correlations between the colour and pH, ash, reducing sugars, and moisture content, and positive correlations between the colour and the concentration of phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activity.(AU)

Background: Boxer dog cardiomyopathy was initially described by Neil Harpster in 1983 and has received different names. However, several recent studies demonstrated a similarity to the human arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), which led to the name Boxer ARVC. This hereditary disease seems to be linked to a mutation in the gene that codifies the cardiac ryanodine receptor. This mutation leads to an alteration of the calcium cycle in the heart. The analysis of the heart rate variability is an important predictive factor for diagnosing this disease. Therefore, this study aims to report a case of a Boxer ARVC providing electrocardiographic data and heart rate variability.Case: A 11 year-old male Boxer dog, weighting 29.65 kg, was submitted to a heart check-up due to sudden occurrence of fatigue and syncope. At the clinical examination, heart auscultation did not revealed sounds or arrhythmias. The electrocardiogram results presented tachycardia and a regular rhythm with ventricular premature complexes (VPC´s). Ecodopplercargiogram was performed and values were within normal standards. Thus, a dynamic monitoring of 24 h was performed using a Holter monitor. This analysis demonstrated tachycardia in the sinus rhythm, type I second degree sinoatrial block, normal PR interval and normal length of QRS complexes. In addition, severe ventricular ectopy was identified in the following forms: isolated, paired, and nonsustained ventricular tachycardia. The heart rate variability analysis resulted in mean values of 213 ms (SNDD), 132 ms (SDANN), 211ms (rMSSD) and 33.46% (pNN50). Based on these data, Boxer ARVC is the probable diagnosis. However, a ventricular myocardial biopsy necessary to confirm the disease was not performed due to the inherent risk of the procedure. Treatment was performed with sotalol and a commercial feed specially designed for dogs with for cardiac diseases.[...](AU)

Adaptation to productivity and profitability in agriculture has led to the increasing use of agrochemicals in crops. The "Agrochemicals Law" makes recommendations on the correct use of these products, from the identification of pests and diseases, to their correct use, to the disposal of the packages. Based on these recommendations, the objective of this study was to characterize the management of agrochemicals in rural properties in the Valley of São Francisco, Bahia by means of descriptors such as the form of obtaining the agronomic prescription, the transportation and storage of pesticides and the care taken during the use of these products. The data collection was done directly using a questionnaire. Data were described using the methods and techniques of descriptive statistics. Poor management practices were observed, including the use of PPE, compliance with the grace period and proper disposal of empty containers within the period established by law, which may pose a greater risk to human health and to the environment.

A new species of Helicopsyche subgenus Feropsyche from Chapada Diamantina is diagnosed, described, and illustrated. Helicopsyche catoles n. sp. is easily distinguished from congeners by the following features: inferior appendages clavate, each bearing a posteroventral projection with 2-4 setae in lateral view, and tergum X with a notched apex and a short setal row along its length in dorsal view. Additionally, new records from Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil, are presented. A total of 31 species, including the new species, are recorded, belonging to 14 genera and 8 families. Two of these species constitute new records to Brazil (Helicopsyche (Feropsyche) succincta and Marilia misionensis) and another 10 of these species represent new records for Bahia [Chimarra (Curgia) hyoeides, Macronema hageni, M. partitum, Polyplectropus tragularius, Smicridea coronata, S. helenae, S. iguazu, S. jundiai, S. radula and Marilia major].
