RESUMO
The fishing production in the city of Cananeia SP was characterized evaluating data from literature and information available through the institutional database, together with fishermen historical perceptions about fishing in the region. It was observed a fishing production decrease and fishing effort increase to maintain the production during the last years. Industrial fishing is responsible for the greatest part of the production, even representing the minority of producing units. In general, artisanal fishermen are older, work in fishing longer and emphasize the fishing effort increase over the years. On the other hand, industrial fishermen are younger, work in fishing shorter and do not notice differences in fishing effort through time. The artisanal fishing decreased through the years due to high competition in the fishing sector. A bibliographic collection about this activity allied to artisanal fishermen historical knowledge can support more realistic analyzes of the fishing situation in Cananeia region.
A produção pesqueira em Cananéia SP foi caracterizada avaliando-se dados obtidos na literatura e informações disponíveis no banco de dados institucional, em conjunto com a percepção histórica dos pescadores sobre a pesca na região. Observou-se diminuição da produção de pescados e aumento do esforço de pesca para a manutenção da produção nos últimos anos. A pesca industrial é responsável pela maior parte da produção, mesmo representando a minoria das unidades produtivas. Os pescadores artesanais, em geral, são mais velhos, com mais tempo de trabalho e enfatizam o aumento do esforço de pesca ao longo dos anos. Já os pescadores industriais são mais jovens, com menor tempo na pesca e não veem diferença no esforço de pesca ao longo do tempo. A pesca artesanal diminuiu ao longo dos anos devido à alta competição do setor pesqueiro. Levantamento bibliográfico sobre a atividade, aliado ao conhecimento histórico dos pescadores, pode subsidiar análises mais realistas da pesca na região de Cananéia.

RESUMO
In a recent past article, we reported the general considerations of the national program of extramural surgery in Mexico from the national health secretary. The results obtained concerning ophthalmic care during the last 2 years are presented to provide new information about what has been done in our country, in specialized ophthalmologic care to the economically disadvantaged population who do not have access to other types of medical ophthalmic attention, especially for cataracts and strabismus.
