Red propolis is a substance produced by bees by mixing resins from plants with wax, oils, and other secretions to protect the hive against natural enemies. Dalbergia ecastaphyllum (L.) Taub. (Fabaceae) is the primary botanical source of the Brazilian red propolis, where bees Apis mellifera L. collect a reddish resin from the stems to produce propolis. This species occurs in coastal dune and mangrove ecosystems, where local beekeepers install their beehives for propolis production. The induction of propolis production was virtually unknown. Previous reports and field evidence suggested that the reddish resin available in D. ecastaphyllum stems was not produced spontaneously but induced by the presence of a parasitic insect that feeds on the plant's stems. Research in the apiaries of the beekeepers' association of Canavieiras, Bahia, Brazil, led to the capture of a jewel beetle of an unknown species of the genus Agrilus Curtis (Buprestidae). It was confirmed that this jewel beetle is a red propolis production inductor. The adult and immature of this new species, Agrilus propolis Migliore, Curletti, and Casari sp. nov. are here described and illustrated. Behavioral information on the biology and chemical ecology confirms that the reddish resin of D. ecastaphyllum is directly related to the beetle attack and only occurs when Agrilus propolis sp. nov. adults emerge from the plant stem. This information is very important for Brazilian propolis producers interested in expanding red propolis production, which can have favorable effects on the economy of mangrove communities, promoting income generation, creating new business opportunities, and helping to sustain local communities and families.

We present a brief biography of Dr. Cleide Costa, eminent entomologist from Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZUSP). She has been dedicating the last six decades to the study of adults and immatures of Coleoptera. Dr. Costa is the pioneer in collecting and rearing immature beetles in Brazil, being responsible for establishing the most extensive Latin American collection of reared immatures Coleoptera. We discuss central aspects of her personal history, as well as career landmarks and achievements. A compilation of taxa introduced to science by her, taxa named in her honor, and a full list of her scientific, educational and cultural production are provided in chronological order. More than a biographical account, this publication is an acknowledgment of Dr. Cleide Costas legacy to entomology.

Immature stages of four species from Brazil, belonging to three tribes of Prioninae Latreille, 1802 (Cerambycidae), are described or redescribed and illustrated: Myzomorphus quadripunctatus (Gray, 1831) (Anacolini); Pyrodes nitidus (Fabricius, 1787) (Mallaspini); Polyoza lacordairei Audinet-Serville, 1832, and Quercivir gounellei Lameere, 1912 (Meroscelisini). A characterization of described Prioninae immature stages for the American continent is included. An attempt to characterize the larvae and pupae for each tribe based on described immature stage, is also presented. Some studies consider Parandrinae as a derived group within Prioninae (paraphyletic), and therefore, suggest treating both as Prioninae. In our study, we found some immature features that can define Prioninae, and by analyzing recent studies, we defend the continuance, for now, of the current status of Prioninae and Parandrinae, until a more detailed morphological and molecular study, with a greater representation of these groups is done (including characteristics of the immature stages).

Corotoca Schiødte, 1853 is a Neotropical genus of termitophile beetles, with five species. The establishment of this genus marks the first record of insects living associated to termites. A new species, Corotoca pseudomelantho Zilberman, sp. nov. from Brazil and Argentina, based on adult and first larval instar, is described and illustrated. The first instar larva of C. melantho Schiødte, 1853, a related species, is redescribed and illustrated. This is the first record of Corotoca species from Argentina.

The natural history of Acentroptera basilica Guérin-Méneville, 1844 and A. cf. tessellata Baly, 1958 (Cassidinae: Sceloenoplini) associated with Aechmea aquilega Salisb. and Vriesea sp. (Bromeliaceae), respectively, is registered. Adults of both species are leaf scrapers, although larvae are leaf-miners. The immature stages of both species of Acentroptera are described and illustrated for the first time. The male and the female genitalia of A. basilica and new records for both species are also included.

Two new species of Epimelitta (Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae: Rhinotragini) are described from Brazil: E. prodigiosa sp. nov., from Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and E. penicillata sp. nov., from Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The larva and pupa of E. prodigiosa sp. nov. are also described and illustrated. Stenopseustes gibbicollis Fisher, 1947 is synonymized with S. aeger Bates, 1873.

Morphological descriptions and comparisons of immatures of five species of Acanthoderini are presented. Larvae and pupae of Psapharochrus cylindricus (Bates, 1861) and P. vetustus (Bates, 1880), larva of P. jaspideus (Germar, 1824), and pupae of Oreodera glauca (Linnaeus, 1758) and Steirastoma stellio Pascoe, 1866, from Brazil, are described; larvae of the two latter species are redescribed. Until now, immatures of 20 species of this tribe were known. Remarks on characters in Acanthoderini and genera with known immatures are also included.

Description of the pupa and redescription of the larva of Epilachna vigintioctopunctata (Fabricius), collected for the first time on Brugmansia suaveoleus (Humb. and Bonpl. ex Willd.) Bercht. and J. Presl (Solanaceae) (trombeteiro), in the state of São Paulo (Brazil), is presented. The diagnoses of the described pupae of E. clandestina (Mulsant), E. paenulata (Germar) and E. spreta (Mulsant), based on specimens examined, and that of E. cacica Guérin, based on the literature, are presented. A comparison among the known larvae and pupae of this genus is also presented. This is the first description of immatures of E. vigintioctopunctata from the Western Hemisphere.

Immatures of Acanthocinini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Lamiinae). Larva and pupa of Eutrypanus dorsalis (Germar, 1928), collected in trunks of Pinus elliottii Engelm., and Paratenthras martinsi Monné, 1998, collected in spathes of Scheelea phalerata (Mart. ex Spreng.) Burret, are described and illustrated. Larva and pupa of Lophopoeum timbouvae Lameere, 1884, collected in Hymenaea corbaril L., Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong and Pterogyne nitens Tul., are redescribed and illustrated. A table with all described immatures of Lamiinae, and a comparison among the immatures of Acanthocinini are presented. New species of Dilobitarsus Latreille with tetra-tuberculated pronotum (Coleoptera, Elateridae, Agrypninae). Four species of Dilobitarsus Latreille, 1834, D. angulosus sp. nov. (Brazil: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro), D. bellus sp. nov. (Peru), D. nigrus sp. nov. (Argentina) and D. thoraconstrictus sp. nov. (Bolivia) are described, and D. quadrituberculatus Candèze, 1857 is redescribed. Diagnostic characters of all studied species are illustrated and new records for D. quadrituberculatus are included. A key to Dilobitarsus species from the Neotropical Region is also presented.
