RESUMO
PURPOSE: To describe the case of orbital subcutaneous emphysema who was successfully treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. OBSERVATIONS: Case report. Retrospective analysis of medical records and computer tomography images. A 40 years-old female, with retinal detachment who was seen at the emergency department, two weeks after undergoing a combined procedure of pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckle and Sulfur hexafluoride tamponade. The patient complained of pain, decrease eye movement and edema of the upper eyelid. Clinical examination revealed periorbital crepitus. She was treated immediately with soft tissue decompression with small-gauge needle. Orbital emphysema recurred quickly, indicating possible gas trapped in the soft tissue. Using the US NAVY decompression protocol we were able to achieve fast clinical improvement. The protocol was repeated in several occasions until complete resolution. CONCLUSION AND IMPORTANCE: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an effective treatment for orbital and periorbital emphysema, due to its property of helping accelerate N2 elimination from adipose tissue.
RESUMO
El propósito es elaborar y aplicar un programa de desarrollo de habilidades sociales con adultos mayores de entre 60 y 80 años, mujeres, miembros de un club de abuelas de la ciudad de Fernando de la Mora. La investigación emplea el método cualitativo, con intención descriptiva y transeccional. El diseño utilizado es el de investigación - acción. Los instrumentos fueron un cuestionario de habilidades sociales elaborado por la investigadora y entrevistas a profundidad, tanto individuales como grupales. Se midieron cuatro habilidades sociales: Comunicación, Liderazgo, Asertividad y Autoestima; con una medición de entrada, la elaboración y aplicación del programa de desarrollo y la descripción de la evolución observada en dichas habilidades post programa y al término del mismo. Se observaron cambios actitudinales en la Comunicación grupal, replicados dentro de las familias de algunas de las participantes. Además, una alta predisposición para implementar el Liderazgo democrático en trabajos en equipo para el éxito de los mismos. Por último, la Asertividad fue incorporada como una herramienta de exteriorización de Autoestima, la cual fue afianzada y valorada por las ancianas a lo largo de la investigación.
The purpose is to develop and implement a program of social skills with adults aged between 60 and 80 years, women, members of a club of grandmothers in the city of Fernando de la Mora. The research uses a qualitative, descriptive and transactional intent. The design used in the research - action. The instruments were a questionnaire of social skills developed by the researcher and in-depth interviews, both individual and group. Four were measured social skills: Communication, Leadership, Assertiveness and Self Esteem, with a measure of input, processing and application development program and a description of the developments in these skills post program and at the end of it. Attitudinal changes were observed in group communication, replicated within families of some of the participants. Furthermore, a high willingness to implement the Democratic leadership in teamwork for their success. Finally, assertiveness was incorporated as a tool for externalization of self-esteem, which was established and valued by the elderly over the investigation.
