RESUMO

This is an exploratory descript study made with 53 citizens of a community in Florianopolis. After primary explanation about the process of this study, its purposes and ethical issues, these participants agreed to answer the interview about their perceptions of elderly abuse. The results show mainly that (a) at least half of the respondents had already been submitted to abuse and they knew about other elderly abuse occurring actually; (b) the definition to elderly abuse can be "a violation of personal rights", and the type of violence was classified mainly as psychological or physical abuse...
