RESUMO

Visceral leishmaniasis, popularly known as kalazar, is a potentially lethalanthropozoonosis when untreated. The study of the variable incidence providesinformation about the disease, guaranteeing the Veterinarian to develop preventivemethodologies, depending on the behavior of the disease. The present work is anepidemiological, descriptive and retrospective study with a quantitative approach carriedout in the city of Sobral from January 2014 to December 2016. In the present study, thenumber of new cases of leishmaniasis was observed in the course years.(AU)

RESUMO

Cryptococcosis is a fungal infection caused by a yeast of the genus cryptococcus that affects humans and domestic mammals, especially domestic cats, and the reports of this illness are scarce in the state of Ceará. It was discovered in a private clinic in the city of Sobral, Ceará, a feline presenting symptomatology similar to that found in animalswith cryptococcosis. By discarding other similar diseases and diagnosing a pathology, a fine needle score was performed in the affected region. A rapid and effective technique and method for identifying the causative agent of the condition. The disease evolved rapidly and two days after an animal collection for a death.(AU)

RESUMO

Knowing the follicular dynamics and predicting the time of ovulation is fundamental to the success ofbreeding programs that use reproductive biotechnologies. The objective of this study was to characterize thefollicular dynamics of crossbred cows reared in the northern region of the Ceará state, Brazil, identifying themoment of ovulation and correlating the time of ovulation with the rectal temperature. According to the dataobtained, there was a time difference on the onset of estrus and ovulation period between the cycles analyzed inthe dry season (≈27 hours) and the rainy months (≈33 hours). In addition, rectal temperature tends to decreaseas ovulation approaches. These data show the importance of knowing the pattern of follicular dynamics toimprove the pregnancy rate of herds in different conditions.(AU)

The study aimed to evaluate the effect of organic acids and the combination of organic acids and essential oils on performance of replacement pullets hens. 360 animals from Hy-Line Brown lineage with eight weeks of age were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments and ten replicates. The experiment lasted 63 days. The treatments (diets) were: Treatment 1 - negative control (no growth promoter); Treatment 2 - positive control (with growth promoter); Treatment 3 – basal ration + organic acids; Treatment 4 – basal ration + organic acids + essential oils. The variables evaluated were the initial and final weights, weight gain, accumulated consumption and feed conversion. There was no significant effect of treatment on any of the investigated parameters. It was concluded that the inclusion of organic acids or a combination of acids and essential oils do not affect the productive performance of replacement pullets.
