Biological information on the species of the large carpenter bee Xylocopa subgenus Schonnherria occurring in Argentina is revised. Based on the appraisal of museum specimens, the study of type material, and field surveys conducted across 15 provinces between 2007 and 2011, the following seven species are recognized for the country: Xylocopa bambusae Schrottky, Xylocopa chrysopoda Schrottky, Xylocopa macrops Lepeletier de Saint Fargeau, Xylocopa simillima Smith Xylocopa splendidula Lepeletier de Saint Fargeau, Xylocopa pulchra Smith, and Xylocopa viridis Smith. Previous literature records of Xylocopa dimidiata Latreille, Xylocopa subcyanea Pérez, and Xylocopa varians Smith for the province of Misiones appear to have been misidentified specimens, although the presence of these species in Argentina cannot be entirely ruled out given the proximity of this province to Brazil and Paraguay where they occur; Xylocopa boops Maidl was described from a male specimen with unusually enlarged eyes and is newly synonymized under Xylocopa macrops. Males and females of all species are diagnosed, described, and figured, including details of the male genitalia. Taxonomic comments, data on the geographical distribution and nesting substrates, and identification keys to all Argentinean species of Schonnherria are provided. The nesting biologies of Xylocopa splendidula and Xylocopa viridis are documented.
RESUMO
A systematic revision of the species of the genus Xylocopa subgenus Neoxylocopa in Argentina is provided. Seven species are included: X. atamisquensis Lucia & Abrahamovich, X. augusti Lepeletier, X. eximia Pérez, X. frontalis (Olivier), X. mendozana Enderlein, X. nigrocincta Smith and X. tacanensis Moure. The males of X. eximia and X. nigrocincta are described for the first time. Xylocopa jujuyensis Brèthes is a new junior synonym of X. nigrocincta. Photographs, occurrence maps, and identification keys for the species are presented. Information on the nest architecture and substratum preference are also given.

The identity of Stenocolletes Schrottky and its single species, Stenocolletespictus Schrottky, has remained a mystery since their description in 1909. Stenocolletes was originally placed in the bee family Colletidae but no known American colletid matches the original description. The type of S. pictus is likely lost as are large portions of Schrottky's collection. Herein, we describe and designate as neotype a historic specimen that closely matches Schrottky's description and place it in the current classification. Stenocolletes pictus is conspecific with the South American thiipid wasp Calchaquila albinervis (Brèthes, 1913). Both generic and specific names are new synonymous of Stenocolletes and pictus, respectively (new ju- nior synonym). Stenocolletes pictus is also recorded for the first time from C6rdoba, Argentina.

We describe a mixed gynandromorph of Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) nigrocincta from a single specimen from Argentina. The specimen presents bilateral asymmetry, with the right half of its head displaying male characters and the left half displaying female characters; the mesosoma presents male characters mostly in the right half of the prothorax, pronotal lobe and distal half of the fore tibia and in the pubescence of tarsus; the rest of the mesosoma and the metasoma display female features.

Se describe un ginandromorfo mixto de Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) nigrocincta de un ejemplar de Argentina. El ginandromorfo tiene asimetría bilateral en la cabeza, con su mitad derecha con caracteres del macho y su mitad izquierda con caracteres de la hembra. El mesosoma presenta algunas características de macho en la mitad anterior derecha (protorax, lóbulo pronotal, mitad posterior de la protibia y pubescencia del tarso), el resto de meso y metasoma con caracteres de la hembra.

Se reconocen 17 especies para el subgénero Megachile (Dasymegachile), de las cuales 12 se distribuyen en Chile, nueve en Argentina, tres en Perú y una en Bolivia. Se brindan descripciones, ilustraciones y claves para la identificación de las especies argentinas. Se revisan las distribuciones geográficas; M. cinerea y M. melanotricha, son citadas por primera vez para Argentina. Dos nuevas especies son citadas para Chile.

Este estudio es un análisis taxonómico de las especies argentinas de Bombus. Se proponen claves para la identificación de hembras y machos a nivel específico [incluyendo la especie paleártica Bombus (Megabombus) ruderatus]. Se reconocen tres subgéneros: Fervidobombus, el más diversificado, con seis especies diferentes; Coccineobombus y Robustobombus con una especie cada uno. Para cada taxón se incluye una descripción de reina, obrera y macho e información adicional sobre variaciones morfológicas, comentarios comparativos y distribución geográfica. Para cada especie se proporcionan fotografías tomadas al microscopio electrónico de barrido de los genitales del macho y dibujos de la cápsula del aguijón de hembra.
This study presents a taxonomic review of the Argentinean species of Bombus. Keys to identify female and male specimens at the species level [including the Palearctic species, Bombus (Megabombus) ruderatus] are given. Three subgenera are recognized: Fervidobombus, the most diversified, with six different species; Coccineobombus and Robustobombus each with one species. For each taxon, queen, worker and male descriptions are given, as well as the following information: morphological variation, comparative comments and geographic distribution. Also, for each taxon SEM photographs of male genitalia and drawings of female sting capsule are provided.

Se estudió la prevalencia de la Pediculosis capitis como enfermedad parasitaria durante el año calendario 1-8-1992 al 31-7-1993, en la Región Sanitaria XI de la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina, que comprende 15 partidos del Este Noreste de la provincia de Buenos Aires y otras zonas de influencia del Hospital Interzonal de Agudos, Especialidad Pediatría "Sor María Ludovica", cabecera de dicha Región Sanitaria. Se examinaron un total de 552 individuos de nivel social medio a medio bajo de la población infanto-juvenil de 0 a 16 años, tomados al azar en 52 muestreos semanales consecutivos, considerándose como positivos para esta enfermedad a aquellos parasitados al momento del diagnóstico. Los resultados se expresan en términos de prevalencia analizándose su variación mensual y estacional. La prevalencia fue relativamente alta en todos los meses, con valores mínimos en febrero (12 por cento) y máximos en agosto (56,8 por cento), siendo la media anual de 38, 04 por cento (+/- 4,05). Estacionalmente, su menor valor corresponde al Verano (16,8 por cento), siendo muy semejantes los valores para las restantes estaciones, manteniéndose siempre superiores al 38 por cento
