RESUMEN
In 1963, blood samples were collected from approximately 1000 male negro employees of the so-called Brokopondo Hydro-Electric Project. The men were classified in 4 groups, according to their birth-place. A number of hereditary blood factors were determined, including blood groups, haptoglobin types and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity. The results of blood group and haptoglobin type determinations were strikingly similar. They showed that the population of the middle and upper basin of the Surinam River and that of the Tapanahony River basin were pure negro, whereas those in the northern areas were of mixed negro and -probably- asiatic origin
